A Senate committee Thursday delayed its confirmation vote for Labor Secretary-designate Hilda Solis.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – A Senate committee Thursday delayed its confirmation vote for Labor Secretary-designate Hilda Solis, citing a need to review additional documentation.

A planned vote in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee "was postponed to allow members additional time to review the documentation submitted in support of Representative Solis' nomination to serve in the important position of labor secretary," Sens. Ted Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, and Mike Enzi, R-Wyoming, said in a joint written statement.

"Members on both sides of the aisle remain committed to giving her nomination the fair and thorough consideration that she deserves. We will continue to work together to move this nomination forward as soon as possible." Kennedy is the committee's chairman; Enzi is the ranking Republican. Solis, a California congresswoman, is currently serving her fifth term in House of Representatives.

A new date for the committee to vote on her nomination has not been set yet.

Again? Does she not share the same roof as her husband? What is going on here?

This is incredible!

pa dreamin'   February 5th, 2009 5:18 pm ET

When is this going to stop? And when are these blinded, brainwashed people going to stop blaming the Republicans for the problems in this adminstration? I challenge anyone to put out there anything that has been written DIRECTLY AND IN HIS OWN HAND, by Obama. You can't do it because he has turned everything over to his "staff" and Congress to write and he will put his name on it. Just like he did in Illinois. His appointees are falling like flies in the bug zapper and all you can say is he is doing a good job. Where? I really want to hear from all these people in a couple of years when the real Obama steps forward. OOPS, he already has. He has shown that there are two standards in Washington, just like there always has been and always will be, no matter who wears the big hat. Seems to me that his "staff" needs some education on the vetting process and they need to get in touch with the American public as far as tax cheats. I wished I could make an "honest" hundred thousand dollar mistake and ignore it for years and not go to jail. Only tells me that he makes so much money, that amount is chump change to him. Just wished Gietner (sp) would do the right thing and leave.

The issue is unpaid taxes. If my spouse does not pay taxes I'm liable; why then, should it be any different for a politician whose spouse did not pay a business tax? One rule for all... remember?

NYC REPUB   February 5th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

Of course my fellow Republicans would halt, even try to blotch the name of this, woman who is pro labor, to head the labor department.... I have a feeling that the republican party, and their obstructionist ways, will not make it through the year. By the way, I'm another moderate repub., who voted for, and pretty much side w/ the President....... Especially after Joe(the plumber), Rush, Rudy Guilliani, and Gov. Palin, became the voices of the party.

Death of America by Obama   February 5th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

NO MORE TAX CHEATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Palin/Limbaugh

You can not spell and you tell people that they are ignorant????

Stacy from Leesburg, VA   February 5th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Wow, they are going after spouses now too? What's next, the family dog? This is turning more into a witch hunt than a confirmation. Take the time to review, but don't hold her accountable for her husband. That is just not fair. Sheesh.

Ray Ray   February 5th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

When will Gaithner resign??

Every day a new tax-cheat gets nominated by Obama reminds Americans how much Democrats think they're above the laws they create.

If still living – Al Capone would be appointed by Obama to lead the Alcohol-Firearm-Tobacco Dept!

That's "Change" you can believe in, folks!! (eyes rolling)

Another Cabinet Dud   February 5th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Did she pay her taxes????????

Tim   February 5th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!

To All those who do not have the ability to think for themselves......

It is now written......

The world renowned Cnn Blogger "CHUCK" has now declared we MUST ALL REALIZE THAT OBAMA IS DOING A TREMEDOUS JOB!

Thank you Chuck!

Please CNN readers...repeat this line to as many people as you can each and every day....and together....we can brainwash all of America!

Joseph   February 5th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

It has been reported that her taxes are fine, her husbands taxes on the other hand ar not, please explain how his taxes are an issue for her. The Republicans will stop at nothing.

Bill   February 5th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Nice spinning by the demoncrats. Lets talk about people that are no longer in power rather than the people in power who have talked about change and now seem to be the same old plague that we have had over the last 15-20 years.

Dan   February 5th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Barack Obama has lots of tax issues. He has selected people without proper vetting process. I am happy that things have come up before these candidates are confirmed. I wonder if Barack has paid his taxes properly. America, we are on the wrong path. I do not know who can save us.

Steph   February 5th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Ken, Why would anyone need to check a member of the House of Representatives immigration status? Could you be more of a racist???

Dems be dopes   February 5th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

NoBama's New Stimilus Plan

Nominate a Dimocrat

Investigate for tax evasion

Collect back taxes

Repeat as necessary..............

Palin/ Limbaugh 2012   February 5th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Jake, are you an idiot??? Can't take the fact that a Hispanic female is made something for herself. What part of the country are you from? I am amased of ignorant people are.

Ken   February 5th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

ANOTHER TAX CHEATER!

Has anyone checked her legal status into this country?

She should do the right thing and remove herself from being nominated for this office. Plus, Obama should explain why he is using double standards for his staff?

Doug   February 5th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Has Obama ever run anything?

I can't believe we elected this two-faced moron...... he gave a speech and you fell asleep. Look at the "change" he is ushering in...... "old Washington liberals", tax cheats and communists (like this one)...... what a joke.

He will see the taste for this behavior drop like a stone just like this "Christmas Ham" he is trying to kill the economy with. People will grow tired of paying for his votes.

Throw out all of Washington and start over..... they cannot see beyond their own walls and we all pay the price. It is the worst investment we make with our money.

Simmy   February 5th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

If you don't post me, someone else will say it.

Republican are on another witchhunt. Being the opposition is all they have left. They should change their name to the Opposition Party.

Nick the Photographer   February 5th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

My god, does anyone in Washington pay their taxes? This country needs a total reset on politicians. Throw them all out and start over.

Greg Pottstown, Pa.   February 5th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

I don't think he should nominate anyone form CA. That state goes $40.000.000 deeper into debt every day. I don,t care what side of the isle, no one form CA.

Robbie   February 5th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

How about an executive order to audit all government officials nationally and statewide. While this is embarrasing for Obama I don't think it's that he is picking 'worst' choices, I think this is symptomatic of a political culture of corruption.

sandee in Portland   February 5th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

They say that her husband had some tax issues regarding his business; however, since she's not a part of that business, it shouldn't have any effect on where she's appointed. You know, most of us have had tax issues at some time in our lives. I think they're carrying this tax issue thing a little too far.

Dont blame me   February 5th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Aren't there any CLEAN democrats that they can appoint???

More of Obama's CHANGE that we can believe in.

Obama Victim   February 5th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

a Democrat involved in corruption?? surely not

Rick in WA   February 5th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Not a surprise anymore.

El Borak   February 5th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

"Please say that we have a clean tax payer nominee...."

Maybe, maybe not:, it appears they may be her husband's tax issues. For as much as these folks love to tax everything, they sure aren't big on paying them...

ijoe   February 5th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

WOW ! where was all this lookin into the bush administration??? but it's ok.obama wil prevail.as he always does..they're tryin there best to undermine his presidency, but u cant stop progress.

Vincent Petrosino   February 5th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Solis is clean. If here husband has problems so be it it for him, she is noit part of her business. Didn't we just go through this with Hillery and Bill and his foundation? And as much as I despise her politics, did we not go through this with Geraldine Ferraro and her husband Zuccarro in the 1980's? Werenot his business dealings under scrutiny as well?

obama-mama   February 5th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Seems her hubbie has tax issues....Her taxes are fine. I hope this is not some kind of conspiracy. If Daschle was the best man for the job, I would have kept him.

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   February 5th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Simple suggested question to Obama vetters: Do you or your spouse have any reason to believe that your income and taxes for the past ten years have not been fully and accurately reported and paid? (A "yes" leads to an intensive face-to-face and paper audit, and no one is indispensible.)

We Are The One   February 5th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

this is just scrapping the barrel by the senate republiklans; any nomination president Obama should be discredited.

they dont care about the american people suffering right now; they just want to continue to play partisan politics at the detriment of the american people!!!!

Mark - Berwyn, PA   February 5th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

My goodness, do any Democrats pay taxes? Do they think they are exempt from this 'burden'. How elitist is that?!?!?

bills2pay   February 5th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

We all need to be more like our political leaders and just not pay our taxes. Why wait for Congress to do a stimulus package – vote yourself one – don't pay – that's what they do.

Matthew Detroit   February 5th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

hahahaha. All the dems are scared now to look at their own nominees.

maybe Barak should let Michelle do the background checks on his appointees before he names them. She looks pretty mean. I bet she could make them talk.

Lucieann   February 5th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

The GOPers don't like her cause she is pro Union, and they are looking for any petty thing to stall this confirmation...let's not kid ourselves here!!!

Chuck   February 5th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Grand Obstructionist Party at it again. America needs to realize that President Obama is doing an excellent job. He even takes responsibility for his cabinet picks even though their personal affairs such as paying their taxes is out of his control. However, the republican party is appalled that an African American beat their Maverick and Pig with lipstick. They will stop at nothing to see this president fail. If they continue on their course of obstructing everything this president tries to do to help the working average American, the GOP will become extinct. America spoke on November 4th, and the GOP had it's hands over it's ears.

Matthew Detroit   February 5th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Oh great. Nice pro union comrade. Bring on the Socialist. This lady

will be great for the country. The union sure helped GM Ford and Chrysler become strong companies. Let them save us all. We will all be standing in bread lines pretty soon.

Another joke for Obama. This guy really needs help. Too bad Edwards was Stoiking someone else and got caught. He would have been a great VP. Adultery no big deal for Demis.

His wife took him back correct left wing. That makes it okay to cheat.

Boston Irish   February 5th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Just came out TAX PROBLEM!!!!!

Scott the Independent   February 5th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Now the spouse's taxes are under review. Did anyone check Chenney's wife's returns or Cindy McCain – oh right they both refused to submit full details of their returns.

who cares, I want to see the story about REP. Sessions of Texas and his contraversial discussion on how the GOPs have be more like the Taliban. THis is interesting news.

___________

Yes, I cannot wait to see the consevative spin on the Taliban remarks. Had a Democrat made it, they would have called for nothing short of a lynching. Since one of their own did it, let's watch them spin it, or ignore it.

Mississippi Mike   February 5th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Her husband's business (which she also lists as a personal asset) had something like 15 tax liens on it. Remind me again why limousine liberals don't have to pay taxes?

good thing they started early   February 5th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

mistakes yes, but certain better at management than either Palin (laughable for her to be a critic of Obama) and Bush – what a nightmare

It is good he started the process early, obviously this is going to be a long process

I don't think it was a mistake to nominate Daschel, he is a good man with a large mistake

Typical White Person   February 5th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Anyone checking her tax records???

Sniffit   February 5th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

Fair enough.
