Sources: Committee informed two days ago about Solis tax issues

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Two sources familiar with Hilda Solis’ confirmation process tells CNN the reason the committee vote on her nomination to be Labor Secretary was postponed today is because Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee did not know about her husband’s tax issues until two days ago, when they were approached by USA Today.

"We reviewed her tax returns, and her tax returns are in order," Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Wednesday. "The story denotes that her husband had some issues with paying a business tax and, obviously, that taxes should be paid.

"[Solis] is not a partner in that business, so we're not going to penalize her for her husband's business mistakes. Obviously, her husband, I think, has and should pay any taxes that he owes."

Are people paranoid because they sit inside all day reading only spurrious and slanted internet reports – or do they sit inside and read only spurrious reports because they are paranoid? People read way too much into a politically charged process with a lot of grandstanding.

Hilda Solis in NOT a Republican. She is a good and decent legislator and human being, but she is indeed a Democrat.

  5. IRS needs to do it job!!!

Everyone needs to get a grip. Where was the IRS? Apparently this is not the President fault. President Obama is cleaning the IRS office. So, why are we paying those folks at the IRS office? Apparently Mr. Obama is doing the IRS job for them. Let’s audit all the elected and appointed officials in Washington, all states and towns.

Yet another Obama pick that is involved in Tax fraud. us regular citizens get penelized, sent to prison etc for failing to pay taxes. Obama's friends get a promotion and a pardon.

Republicans having been running scared that Solis will get in. She has the temerity to be pro-labor and we certinly wouldn't want that in a Secretary of Labor!

And now this bogus issue raises it's head. Hey, GOP, how about an up-or-down vote and stop with all your shenanigans?

Perhaps all of this indicates (among other things, of course) a need to simplify the tax code. I use Turbo-Tax, and I'm never quite sure if I've done it right. Indeed, I was told once by the IRS that I owed several thousand dollars, but I found the documentation that showed them that I did not. Not even the IRS can tell how much you really owe!

No. This was about her husband's business, which must file its own taxes. Moreover, the way this has been presented it is fairly obvious the tax returns had nothing to do with her. The headline is just purposefully misleading to rile up the poop-flinging GOP monkeys.

sounds like she will fit right in with the rest of the group – corrupt, stupid and can't believe she did anything wrong! just another example of obama's problems brought about by his ignorance in bringing in the clintonoids! when will he learn to try honest people outside d.c. i knew the clintons would be the ruin of him – i just didn't know he would bring it on himself – he must not be as smart as the dems thought!!!!

It's not even her husband's personal taxes that are the issue; they're from his business.

I guess it is easy for Democrats to vote for higher taxes if you know you're not going to pay them.

Aieeee!!! What is wrong with these people? President Obama has made a deal with Americans, and all these nominees with tax problems are becoming a real pain in the rear.
Is there a problem with finding someone to serve in the administration who doesn't have a skeleton in their closet?

I detect a pattern. The top ranking appointments and elected officials have a problem with filing correct income tax returns. January brought in quite a bit of money. The IRS should take a list of all cabinet and sub-cabinet positions for the last 10 years, a list of all Congressmen/women for the past 10 years and audit those returns (going back 7 years). Bet there would be a boatload of money paid up.

WHO CARES? Do you know how many politicians in Washington have financial obligations SHAME on their record right now? DAH.

Is everyone so DAFT to think that the Republican Party is innocent in this arena? Americans have no idea just who is the worst violator of this crime and it's not the Democrats, I can tell you for SURE. I do work in this arena.

The Republicans are causing too many distractions as to avoid the REAL truths from coming out about them.

Mr. and Mrs. McCain have always filed seperately since they have been married. That is why it does not matter.

That is also why Hillary and Bill did not get into issues over taxes. Although he did take in 90 Million over 5 years from the Royal Saudi Arabian Family.

Solis and her husband file jointly. The business is owned by hubby.

Get facts straight people. Then ask questions and give opinions.
