WASHINGTON (CNN) – A GOP source says the assumption is incoming Republican National Committee Chief Michael Steele will ”at least for an interim period” retain some staffers, especially those in divisions that are at a skeletal stage now, despite his recent request for mass resignations.

The source estimates that the post-election RNC staff is down to about 100 people from more than 400 in pre-election days.

This week, Steele asked for the resignations of the entire RNC headquarters staff. A number of those staffers have been told they will not have a job as of February 15.

That request by Steele is a standard one. The Obama team made a similar request at the Democratic National Committee after the president's pick, Tim Kaine, took control.

Steele Not Barack   February 6th, 2009 8:11 pm ET

What a country. It takes all kinds. We have Barack Obama who has elevated the country to a higher level...and this fool, Michael Steele.

From the White House to the outhouse ladies and gentlemen. It takes all kinds.

Michael steel You go ! You don't just talk change. You actually walk the walk and do change!

Ron San Bruno Ca   February 6th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

It just goes to show America that they made a good choice in November . I don't think the RNC know's Mr.Clean died last year, and everyone else has dibbs on the broom . Good luck Mr. Steele, Rod's out of work maybe he can sell you some recommendations , or his hair for a broom and maybe Ann Coulter can hold the pan. It's an idea .

Oh, are we still talking about the raccoons? I hate this guy, and I'm black. He will never be Barack because he doesn't have a heart.

Michael BlackFace!   February 6th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Wait a minute…this picture looks just like the blacks on vaudeville. All he needs is black face. Wait, I think I have some shoe polish and some vegetable oil.

White blackface performers in the past used burnt cork and later greasepaint or shoe polish to blacken their skin and exaggerate their lips, often wearing woolly wigs, gloves, tailcoats, or ragged clothes to complete the transformation. Later, black artists also performed in blackface.

Stereotypes embodied in the stock characters of blackface minstrelsy played a significant role in cementing and proliferating racist images, attitudes and perceptions worldwide. In some quarters, the caricatures that were the legacy of blackface persist to the present day and are a cause of ongoing controversy.

The GOP moved way too much to the right and became a minority regional party of the "Extreme Right". The party needs to be totally restructured and extremists should be kept out of the party so they can be an All American Party again. Bush and Chaney should be just kicked out of that party – this is the only way we Americans can give some attention to GOP again.

CNN,

And we care why?

This would-be-Baracker is a slacker. He doesn't have a creative bone in his body. He's an Uncle Tom and a pole-cat. The Rethugs needed a black face and they got their Uncle Tom. This imposter will pretend he's a barackstar, but in essence he's the wad of gum on the bottom of Barack's shoe. In just a minute we'll scrape it off and hopefully things will get back to normal.

What a waste of DNA. I'm sure his parents are turning over in their grave.

When Steele gets his colonic we wont recognize him,now thats a good cleaning.

EBC, MD   February 6th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

Yeah... Okay Mr. RNC Chairman. Once again there is nothing like "cheap talk" at its best.

However, you are cleaning UP the WRONG end of the party toilet buddy.

It's NOT the staffers who need to GO, it's MAJORITY of your OLD and SENILE colleagues in Washington who have been crying the blues for two straight weeks now.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SHUT THESE REPUG BABIES UP!!!

a southern bell   February 6th, 2009 7:09 pm ET

Please clean the repubs out of Congress.....Playing politics while people are going hungry and even killing themselves because they lost their jobs will not be forgotten by the American People in 2010

ran   February 6th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Until they change their attitudes like playing politics with the American people instead of doing for the people they should never again be in the majority. It is not ones skin color or gender but what is in ones heart/mind that makes for a good legislator.

Marty   February 6th, 2009 6:13 pm ET

American public are going to clean up the republicans for good.

Proud American   February 6th, 2009 6:11 pm ET

Don't hold your breath, "BB" - WE aren't going anywhere. Count on it!

Al   February 6th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Once the GOP realize and accept the world has changed, then it will become a party that believes in inclusion and not just one that will put a different face up and call it something new.

alvino   February 6th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

It is not easy to clean up after repubicans have been there.

alvino   February 6th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

I suppose the republicans will blame Obama for the February jobs report showing an increase in unemployed from RNC.

RJ   February 6th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

If you're referring to Americans, then "we" are watching the Dems as well.
Right now they are acting like they won the lottery this past election cycle.
