Palin presses Obama on pipeline

In a letter to the president, the former vice presidential candidate urges Obama to discuss the construction of an Alaska natural gas pipeline when he sits down with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

(CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a special appeal to President Obama Friday, asking him to keep her state in mind when he travels to Canada in two weeks.

In a letter to the president, the former vice presidential candidate urges Obama to discuss the construction of an Alaska natural gas pipeline when he sits down with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“Alaskans have appreciated your strong support for the construction of such a pipeline," Palin wrote. "This project is now moving forward, and I believe that a discussion between you and Prime Minister Harper would greatly facilitate the process now under way.”

The pipeline, currently in planning stages, could reportedly generate thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in revenue for the state. Obama expressed support for the project during the campaign.

I thought we heard during the campaign that this was one of Maverick Palin's huge accomplishments. Second only to saying "no to the bridge to nowhere" before she said yes thanks for the loot but no I don't think I'll build that bridge.

And to all of the repubs who are "amused" by how much the democrats fear Gov Palin...

    disgusted, amused, shocked – yes
    afraid – no

    Hey Julie,

I live in Nevada too. You're the first person I've heard say that they love Palin here. You must be from Elko or Pahrump; that would explain it.

Does she understand that Canada is not a part of the United States and President Obama has no authority in Canada?

wait...I thought she already did this...why would she need his help? Do you mean she was ...no...she wouldn't have not told the whole truth would she?

For those that do not know, the pipeline is dead in the water because she planned it to go through Canadian Indian Territories without asking them for approval. When they balked, she tried and end around. The project needs to be scrapped and started anew.

For all you illiterates that don't understand 'Natural gas pipeline', I'll explain: Yes there is a crude oil pipeline already. This would be a new pipeline to transport natural gas from Alaska to the rest of the U.S. This means lower transport costs. Lower risk of transport related accidents and spills. This translates to lower natural gas prices for the whole country. This has nothing to do with oil and everything to do with cheaper cleaner energy for the entire country. Wake up America!

I love the "get over it" and "the election's over" crowd. You know, if those vile, belligerent rallies where she called him everything but Satan don't burn bridges politically or professionally, what does?

Here is the thing about Barack Obama; He will consider what is best for the American people and balance that with what is best for the people of Alaska. Then he will make a decision.

If I were in the position to say "No " to that %$%^*%^ I would. But that is not our new President's style and I love having him as our President because of it.

One question in light of the jobs this country needs so badly:

why isn't an American company doing the building of the pipeline?

This will help the country ( Alaska is part of the country ). It will bring jobs ( tax dollars ) and gas ( more gas means cheeper gas ). This should be done, and for all of you who say it shouldnt be done just because Palin is the gov of AK then you are a disgrace to your country. We are all Americans ( before D or R ) and to not want to help our county is UNAMERICAN.

Funny that many of you on this thread dissing liberals for comments about Sarah Palin, are just as bad if not worse when it comes to comments about President Obama. Since Gov Palin is a neighbor to Canada and Russia, maybe she should try and get her own audience with the Canadian PM to discuss this pipeline first. I thought the pipeline contract was already awarded to a Canadian company to build? This should have been worked out prior to any contract being awarded. President Obama will rise above any pettiness that Gov Palin spewed against him and will do the right thing and have the pipeline on his agenda.

You guys have a lot of nerve calling Palin an idiot when it was Pelosi, your Democratic love machine, that stated emphatically, twice, that we(the US) are losing 500 MILLION jobs every month we don't have a stimulus package. Seems like the Demos have their own poster child. Hmmm. Oh, for those libs that can't do math, that's nearly twice the population of the United States that will apparently lose their jobs each month.

Liberals being liberals. There is still a "chain of command;" just like a large corporation. The pipeline probably has to run through part of Canada. It is only common sense that Governor Palin would ask the president of this country to speak to an official of Canada about the issue.

  17. Joe Ayers...

Madame governor claimed to have built this pipeline during the campaign. It was touted as her shining achievment, aside from keepin' us all safe when putin rears his head, dontcha know.

Alaska was flush during the begining of palins turn at the helm. Oil revenues accrued fromthe rest of the nation getting soaked by the criminal oil companies were flooding the state coffers. Coupled to ted stevens using the US treasury like a personal piggy bank the biggest problem palin had was how big she should write the rebate checks to Alaskans to buy votes in the next election. Now oil prices are down, and it seems that pipeline that some reporters at legitimate news agencies pointed out might never get built, isn't built.

She is right to beg like the rest of the governors. As many here have pointed out, she is a base hypocrit, and empty headed charlatan, and a freak show all in one. Seems when the times git tough, mrs. palin is willing to make bedfellows out of any socialist community organizer terrorist lovin' sugar daddy who happens her way...

You people who are sticking up for Palin should go read up on information about this pipeline. She has given the contract to a Canadian company because one of her staff was a contractor for TransCanadian. There ws not a fair bidding process, she gave the contract to Canada and wants our president to help when she sent jobs to Canada? No one is trying to be mean here, it is just that she is a total hypocrit.

I former canadain oil field work that in the US and a supporter of Mcain\Palin. This project will not generate 1000's of jobs only
100's.If they need to expand the oil copmany's need to expand
the pipeline they should use there profits from the last couple
of years. I heard from a freind last week that the oil companys are
starting to shut down projects as oil is not priced high enough
any longer. From past experences they will sit and wait for Goverment money to finish projects.
