WASHINGTON (CNN) – Republican Sen. John Ensign would like a little more time to consider the massive spending bill currently working its way through Congress. But Ensign also said he thought the bill would pass sometime this week.
“We only got the bill at 11 o’clock [Saturday] night,” the Nevada Republican said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
“This is almost a trillion dollars. You don’t get do-overs with a trillion dollars. If you get this thing wrong . . . it isn’t like, well, we did it wrong, we’ll try it again.”
“We want some time to go through it, we want some time for the American people to be able to look at it.”
The Senate is expected to vote Tuesday on a compromise version of the stimulus bill that resulted from a tentative agreement reached in the chamber on Friday evening.

Maybe ponder words of wisdom from one receipient of America's Great Generation.
" It's easy to make a buck. It is a lot harder to make a difference."

And next year, some of you won't get a do-over after WE vote.
Stob Obstructing just for the sake of obstructing !! Put your egos to rest.
I have a suggestion for Mr. Ensign: just don't take the money when it comes to you. And to all the complaining GOPers, just return any stimulus checks you get and don't spend any of the money in Red States, including GA. As far as I am concerned, the Repugnants have made this mess and now they are belly aching about government spending money. You guys won't need to worry about a trillion dollars when we hit 25% unemployment in a Major Depression, you'll then need to worry about 10's of trillions of lost dollars in lost tax revenues and lost national productivity. AND, you'll bascially give the lost jobs and opportunities to Europe and Asia, because their governments ARE supporting their people. Call it socialism, but it sure beats a Depression for now. By the way, there is going to be a huge BRAIN DRAIN in science, technology, and business as the highly educated and skilled Amerians leave the country to look for jobs overseas. It is happening already. Mr. Ensign needs to go back to school!
Obstruction of injustice is a noble act.
I don't remember anyone talking about do-overs when the first bailout was pushed through.
Wow an adult!! You mean it not like my 23 year son stated "If we get it
wrong we will just hit the reset key"
No one makes good decisions when doing it on "emotion".
The pro and cons need to be weighted thoughtfully and carefully.
After all this effects 300 million not just 3 to 4 million.
We have not even FIXED the core of this problem. That has to
happen FIRST.
maybe you should have paid a little more attenion and engaged in the process instead of shaking your head NO consently.
mr.ensign a member of the party of the old haired men that dont get .
hurrary up 2010

Well that is true, but we have to start somewhere. And that somewhere is getting people back to work. What else are you doing where it would take you longer than a day and a half to go over the stimulus package. what are you a slow reader. of could under dumbell bush you didn't havemuch reading to do, you just rubber stamped any and everything that moron wanted. that is why we are in the shape we are in. you big idiot. so get to reading and do what we are paying you to do.
Great point Sen Ensign, Too bad you didn't tell Georgie this years ago!!! You don't get do overs with dead soldiers from a wrong war either!!! So what other words of wisdom have you mister big stuff??? I hate people standing outside th fire stoking the flames!!!
All we are hearing from Republicans these days is that they are not given a chance to have their voices heard in the stimulus bill or that they don't have enough time to review it. For the money they are paid, they owe it to the American people to stop feeling sorry for themselves and get to work. They need to reach across the aisle as much as they expect Democrats to reach across. Stop being partisan. The Republicans did not care when they were in the majority and had the White House. But now they care cause they have been marginalized – too bad, grow up, get to work.
This posturing that the republicans like so much to do.Is just smoke and mirrors. The more time we allow them to debate this stimulus plan the more they will try to cut out of it with there greedy knives.Lets put an end to republican posturing and let them know we mean business and we will get the business of the american people done with out them since they have done enough damage to this economy
You didn't just get this on Saturday night. The basic plan has been out there for days. If you don't know what's in it then that's your fault. I have been noticing from coverage on different newscasts and blogs that the tide seems to be swinging in favour of the new stimulus plan and the Republicans are coming off as cranky, sore losers. They may be really sorry that they weren't more postive and supportive of this plan. Your country needs confidence not backstabbing.
are you crazy ensign, you republicans HAD 8 YEARS! now get out of the way and let President Obama do his job.
Is this one of the Republicans that got us into this mess in the first place?
Did you take a little more time to consider Bush's bill @ 700 billion dollars and look what happened to that senario. You repubs are doing everything in your power, and that what this is a power play, to have Obama fail. With that failure, your party will also fail to a great extent for the nation can see and does see what you are doing. By the way 2010 is coming up; rebuild your party not this way. Tax cuts: you need a job for that to help do you listen to how many people do not have a job and it is getting worse every day or do you care, or does your party care. I can only pray for God's powerful intervention in this situation; I have never been so angry at a bunch of politicans. Thank God McCain did not win.

If Nevada doesn't need a stimulus, give it to California instead. They seem to want it.
How many Americans know that Senator Ensign tried to add an amendment to the Stimulus Bill that would have offered 4 to 4.5 percent refinances for homeowners? It was called Fix Housing First and was voted against by every democratic senator in congress. I am a democrat and feel betrayed by my party.
Ensign is a guy along with republican governors for years have ran Vegas into the ground. The city was built on deregulation now they are paying the ultimate price. I was born and raised there and watched it happen. Along with Ronald Reagan opening the flood gates to illegals in the 80's republicans created a time bomb.
Dear CNN,
I see 3 blog posts stating the GOP POV on the stimulus (shelby, sanford, and this fool) and zero stating the Dem side. Media coverage on the stimulus has been 4:1 in favor of the GOP. Are you proud of yourselves?
This guy must live in a bubble or he is rich. Only can someone who live without stress of bills could say the things I heard this man say on meet the press. School teachers, fireman , police, doctors and nurces can not wait for rich congressman to play 2010 election games.
8 year old tax cuts and 7 year war bills off the book cuase some of this. I am a tax payer that watch my money go too a war i did not support, NOW I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY TO BE SPENT ON ME AND I GOT THIS GUY TELLING ME I AM NOT WORTH IT. SPENDING ON PEOPLE IS WRONG AND TAX BREAK TO COMPANY TO BRING BACK THE PROFIT THEY MADE OVER SEA IN GOOD.WHAT THE H**L ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
