WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Barack Obama used his first prime-time news conference to push Congress to approve his administration's economic stimulus plan, saying only the federal government can break the "vicious cycle" now gripping the U.S. economy.

The feds may be the spender of last resort now, but it is grandiose in the extreme to think or say that only Washington can fix a systemically illin' economy. Much more "change" is required and it must come from private enterprise and individuals, not Ivory Tower Ivy League types.
