President Obama bumps his head

CNN

The President bumped his head as he stepped into Marine One Monday morning at the White House.

WHITE HOUSE (CNN) - There was a minor bump on the road - actually a minor bump on the head - as President Barack Obama departed Monday for Elkhart, Indiana to sell his stimulus plan to Americans.

While boarding Marine One on Monday morning, the president turned to wave goodbye and ever so slightly bumped the left side of his head on the doorway to the helicopter. He seemed to recover quickly, then ducked before boarding the helicopter that would take him to Air Force One. Unfortunately for Obama, there were many cameras there to capture the accident.

This isn’t the first time a president’s head has collided with Marine One: President George W. Bush hit his head on the side of the helicopter while boarding shortly after taking office — also in full view of a row of cameras.

Luckily for both men, no visible signs of injury resulted from the minor mishap.

Both senators from Indiana complained about the Stimulus. The whole country needs the stimulus but more so in places like Indians. It is OK for Republicans to try and "improve" the Bill but would be a serious mistake to Filibuster – the voter don't take kindly to this type obstruction.

Thank goodness the media is there to update us on such an important national matter.

But I wonder, what if he stubs his toe during the night, when there aren't 1,000 cameras aimed at him? Is there enough transparency in this administration that we'll get the full report on that. Gosh, I sure hope so. With nothing of any importance happening in the world at the moment, this is just the sort of news we need to be connected with.

Well, I'm off to the library of congress to research old newspapers from the 1860s, I'm hoping to find an article about president Lincoln bumping his elbow on the doorframe of the presidential stagecoach. Wish me luck.

Yes folks, all presidents make mistakes, are not always perfect, do not always communicate their ideas as effectively as we would like.

This is the most ridiculous story I have ever read. I frankly do not care if my President hits his head on the side of a helicopter. He's human too, and has to make mistakes once in awhile. Would you report it if someone saw Obama accidentally step on an ant? Probably, because people like me would read it and tell themselves, "That's the most idiotic headline ever" then click on it. Way to go CNN, for feeding the stupidity of our society. Controversy sells, right?

I mean really, there's so much pork fat in the current bailout proposal, what's a few million more? A lot of [deserved] dirt was flung at the Bush administration's fiscal irresponsibility, but this new administration, promising fiscal responsibility during its campaing, is forging ahead and further increasing Washington's irresponsibility with eyes wide shut. Good day. Up front, I am a 'fan' and regular user of CNN. I like CNN.

However...this 'story' or whatever you want to call it re Obama hitting his head....CNN, in this case, has resorted to stupidity to even present something so wasteful and meaningless on your site. If the President had been seriously injured...that is news. When the president brushes his head against the top of the door to his helicopter....this is more akin to a grocery store tabloid article.

Again...I am a fan of CNN, but I think it's worth saying that someone was bored and lacked some professionalism here...put this on YouTube, not CNN...your reputation counts.

URGENT!! FLASH!! MICHELLE OBAMA BREAKS FINGERNAIL!!
Washington (CNN) - First Lady Michelle Obama was reported resting comfortably Monday after suffering what a White House spokesperson described as a "minor breakage" of the nail on her right index finger.

Ms. Obama was buttoning daughter Sasha's coat when the injury occurred, the spokesperson said.

"The nail was successfully trimmed, and the first lady should be able to resume her normal duties this afternoon," said manicurist Edwina Clipperhands, who was rushed to the White House to treat Ms. Obama.

President Obama briefly delayed has scheduled departure for Indiana to be with his wife during the emergency manicure.

"Obama uses Whitehouse bathroom for 1st time. Tonight on Larry King."

"Obama doesn't finish his peas at Whitehouse dinner."

"Obama has to change batteries in Whitehouse remotes. Why did Bush not replace them before leaving? We'll ask Paul Begala and Barney Frank."

    CNN, even I must say:

    "This is news" ???

Come on now...there has got to be something else in the news to take up room in the Ticker.

How about the people starving in Rural Alaska while Sarah Palin is....well...where is she, CNN? I haven't seen a Palin story in several hours now!

This is news? My god CNN – have you nothing better to report on other than the fact that our president is, in point of fact, a human being? Don't tell me that all of you have never bumped your head getting onto one of those CRJ or EMB regional jets – and I'll venture to bet you were even facing forward, not having to turn and wave your hand at all the cameras that have nothing else better to photograph than a man getting onto a helicopter. Put your time and effort to better use, please!

When he farts will that make news? Of course we continue to hear "news" about when he will get a dog, a cat, a horse? How about actually asking the questions people in this country want to know. How will this spending bill help? How will putting a trillion dollars of debt on our children help us? How are our lives more important financially than our childrens? How will this debt be repaid? You wonder why so many Americans a getting their "news" from alternative sources – because they want the news from unbiased sources which this story shows is not the case. How about showing both Republicans AND Democrats who have voted for such spending bills in their past only to change their complete position now? Help us see who the real people are behind the votes? That is what we expect and that is what we will search for. The only question is will we get that info from you or someone else?

Even if this is considered a "ticker" with as close to real-time updates as possible, this is an absolutely ridiculous post.

When the 3rd headline on the CNN homepage is: "Obama bumps his head", I seriously start to wonder what "producers" like Xuan Thai really get paid to do.

Simply ending the article with a statement that seems to be tongue-in-cheek doesn't make the substance (or lack thereof) acceptable as news.

    – almost as ridiculous as people like Mick in Mesa who find this an opportunity to spew constant venom. Is everybody as tired of these guys, both on the right and the left, who constantly add this nonsense? Why does it get past the moderator?

CNN....could you please report the news? Guess what...this man is human and will have these things happen from time to time. It is not a big deal and I really don't see it worth reporting on. Hi.

I'd like to suggest a few songs that make me think about President Obama and how he is going to small town America.

Doobie Brothers | Takin’ It To The Streets. The instrumental version. President Obama, he's taking it to the streets !

Also, a song by Marvin Gaye, not so upbeat as the other. What's Going On. Of course, instrumental part only may be more appropriate.

So, am I hired for the Obama background music?

Dear CNN, please aid in allowing America's leaders to keep as much dignity as possible. Show our leaders doing great things. Criticize them respectfully for their policies, harshly when warranted. If you believe, they have done something that indicates they are not to be trustworthy by the public, report that if you must. But c'mon, Obama is the president, not some Hollywood star! The media never showed Roosevelt in a wheel chair. Show some respect.

Seriously...this is news? You people are watching and reporting so much on him until a minor head bump makes headlines?! If you all were watching George Bush as closely perhaps we wouldn't have been so deeply in this mess. Bush dnam near end America as we know it and no one even blinked. Obama bumos his head, uses the rest room, kisses his wife or breathes in oxygen and it's breaking news! CNN disgusts me to no end. I hope you shut down due to the economic situation.

When Gerald Ford tripped or stumbled, the media made these occurences into national news. Much comedy resulted from the publicity so given. The liberal press apparently will not be giving his kind of treatment to Obama's carelessness.

LOL Unfortunately, that little bump won't knock any sense into his little "curious george" head! He's blowing it BIG time as Pres, but we ALL knew he'd tank anyway! Anybody who has never held down a REAL job, let alone never done anything useful in politics, could never do the job necessary of the President of the United States. He had big shoes to fill and apparently, he's coming up MANY SIZES TOO SHORT!! He's about to spend away a TRILLION dollars, giving it away to people who will never help themselves and spend it on drugs and alcohol. What's little left after that is spent on funding his fellow self-serving executives at all of these companies he's giving bailout money to. The average American will never see help and we'll be in even BIGGER TROUBLE after he blows this TRILLION dollars. And he'll wonder why it didn't work!! DUH OBAMA! Maybe you should have learned something before thinking you could be a Pres!! Only in office one month and the country is in bigger trouble than ever! In addition to spending that trillion, he's FREEING TERRORISTS! LOL Tell me he isn't into protecting the muslims!!! You're not fooling most of us Osama!!!!

I am normally not a media basher, but the "Political Ticker" aspect of CNN's website is simply a joke. Time and time again, stories such as this are placed under the "Latest News" section on CNN's homepage as if it were real news, instead of on a more appropriate part of the site.

Much like local TV news, CNN is gradually becoming just another infotainment site. How they they be taken seriously as a source of information when they post meaningless dribble like this.

Well, life is too short and I'm fed up with CNN's so-called "news". Time to look elsewhere for serious and thoughtful news & information.

    Have a good day all.

The fact that this was reported is symptomatic of a larger problem. The news machine has overdeveloped capacity, and non-stories and non-issues are being elevated to a level that they should never achieve. This challenges the public to fight through all the noise to the real news. I hope the Obama people hold the line on how much access they give the media or he will never get anything done.

Congress spends too much... he promises more. Taxes are too high... he wants to raise them. His tax increases are the fine print in his economic plan, and let me be specific.

The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes... raise payroll taxes... raise investment income taxes... raise the death tax... raise business taxes... and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.

Why aren't you focused on the fact that Obama lied when he said he'd have troops home in 6 months? Those troops aren't going anywhere. Gitmo IS NOT closing. What about the economic stimulus plan that benefits the big banks? Didn't Obama say he opposed NAFTA and GATT while campaining and now he talks about how great they are? C'mon. I agree with others here. Why is this news? It really reminds me of the old Eddie Murphy skit from SNL in which he parodies news coverage of the attempt on Reagan's life by showing "Texon's" coverage of the shooting of Buckweat. Honestly, this kind of coverage of minutia of Barack's life cheapen the work he is trying to do.

Why are they spending so much time on taking care of banks? It's not going to help my family. Our bank still hasn't sent us a modification package for our mortgage. They received money in the bailout. You want to stimulate the economy...give every tax payer 5K and let them spend it. If both my husband and myself received money we could fix our roof, buy a car for our daughter, and get new carpet for the house. There... I just put 5 people to work. I will not be doing any of these things now. We are in the bracket of having negative equity, good credit and no way to refinance our ARM. A mortgage company who already took money from the so called bailout and has of yet refused to work with us because we make too much money! I'm really tired of handing money over to people who helped put us in this situation and thinking that NOW they will do the right thing. What are all these people smoking? We(the taxpayers) know what to do with our money. LET US DO IT!! A few hundred or even a thousand won't do much good. We need enough to make it matter. Enough to spend. An infusion of cash to every taxpayer could mean the difference between keeping a home and feeding your family or holding out until you could find that job. Let us save our mortgages because the banks aren't. They don't care. Don't make the same mistakes again. Do not hand over OUR hard earned money to the same institutions who are refusing to tell us where the money went. I know they aren't lending it to me!

CNN, you're losing it. You've got Carol Costello calling President Obama's plans for stimulus "rhetoric" and "politics of fear" while talking to an obvious blathering buffoon. Now you're making a big deal out of a nothing bump on the head. When did you guys become just another offshoot of Faux News? Did Ruppert Murdoch buy you out recently?

    This is news. Yes!!
Some of you have fallen behind the times and still subscribe to the old, tired news traditions of the past. Today "news" qualfies also as entertainment, as there are too many mediums out there wanting your attention. You don't care? So?
I didn't hear a lot of complaining regarding Michelle Obama stories about her being a fashion icon, where the Obama kids go to school, their search for a dog or the insipid fist bump. Besides, presidential accidents like these always make the news and always will – no change here.
Plenty of "news" choices on CNN, why no go there instead of adding to the perception that the USA is a nation of whiners?

If it was a set of keys or maybe 43 cents in change that would be fine, but anything else might have hindered our national security, perhaps delayed the "national bailout" proceedings, or the unthinkable – if he had something like a broken wristwatch in his pocket that would have served to emboldened the terrorists!!!!

For the people saying it's not news, it sort of is. We should all be concerned about the health of our president, regardless of who that person happens to be.

As an unrelated point, this president seems to be in the news every day – visually. Can his people not 'lower' his profile a bit and allow business to proceed? Perhaps after the first 100 days this overcoverage will wear down a bit.

So........I'm sure everyone that saw this headline has bumped his/her head [sevaral times] in his/her lifetime, and it didn't make the news.

That's it..doesn't seem like much of a bump. I guess since they can't find any real dirt on the president they have to report this. Stupidest news ever.

Everyone commenting that this is a "non-story" spent the last 8 years laughing at George Bush and the pretzel, falling off his bike, trying to open a locked door, etc. Simple mistakes that we all make.

Suddenly, when it's the Obmamessiah, it's no longer funny.

Let's hope the Daily Show runs the clip too.

Here's the truth of the issue... let's see what valuable news that "CNN White House Producer Xuan Thai" has reported recently. Here are some of the memorable headlines : "Obama takes first Air Force One ride", "In White House tradition, Cheney signs off on press corps" (and don't jump here – it's about Cheney signing his name on a wall in the basement – next we'll hear about what he scratched into the white house bathroom stall), "On the Twelfth Christmas Dinner at Camp David", and a favorite of mine, "Fun facts about the White House holidays". Save some money CNN, and give this particular producer the axe.

Actually, I disagree with many of the people posting comments. This is definitely big news. Many people belived Obama was the second coming of Christ. Clearly, we now know this is not the case–Jesus always knows when to duck...

I guess if we are going to have an approval poll every week on how President Obama's popularity has gone up or down, we might as well have stories like this. Of course any little bump he gets is just more fodder for the far right to laugh at.

I have stepped into it elbow deep as a matter of fact and don't know what I was thinking. The Spending errrr.... Stimulus Bill that I wanted is not the way we should be going. I was wrong yet again, like with the four tax cheats that I wanted on my team. Like with going to my friend Ayers for advice, listening to Rev. For all of that I say I am sorry, but you all voted for me and now you are stuck with me and my posse' (Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Rangel ... ) of libs. We have hungry people in Alaska.!!!....the President bumping his little head is not significant.............why aren't we getting supplies to these folks.....what is wrong with this government....looks to me like CNN has more power than our government...you report your opinion and it happens...why don't you report why we are not fixing our hunger problems ...give the opinion that bail out money for hunger is more important .....What is Palin doing about this?

Wow, all you hateful right wing jerks stoop even lower. Instead of feeling sympathy and wishing well for the President and being thankful that he wasn't badly hurt, you guys continue to attack/ridicule him and now you're attacking CNN as well! Unbelievable. You neo-cons really need to deal with your hatred.

Yes because the democrats were always so respectful of Bush. By the way, this has been reported for all presidents since Ford at the least. Why should it be different for Obama?

I'm sure if this was serious and his head was busted open it would instantly heal.

News is when BUSH tries to open a locked door. Obama bumping his head is not news.

CNN- are you serious? There's an old saying that "You shouldn't speak unless it improves the silence." I'd say the same goes for "reporting" (I use that term loosely) things like this.

News Flash: Obama pulled the shoelace on his left shoe this morning while getting ready, and it broke. He got a replacement from a drawer, re-laced his shoe and went on about his day. No injury was reported.

COME ON!!! AND YOU WONDER WHY MAINSTREAM MEDIA HAS THE REPUTATION IT DOES?!?!?!

    CNN,

Please tell me that real journalism hasn't died. It's ok to report it as a oneliner, but come on, please don't feature it as Breaking news.
