GOP Sens. Arlen Specter and Susan Collins say the final bill won't have their support if it is drastically different.

GOP Sens. Arlen Specter and Susan Collins say the final bill won't have their support if it is drastically different.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Senate voted 61-37 to approve President Barack Obama's proposed $838 billion economic stimulus bill Tuesday.

The measure will now have to be reconciled with an $819 billion version the House of Representatives passed on January 28.

You know some days ya just have it in ya to fight with the idiots! Thanks for your note today, it was one of those days for me! Only one additional comment...sure seems like there are a lot of award-winning economists on here complaining about the stimulus. Too bad for them but good for us, the "real" award-winning economists don't agree with them!

well, i dont understand why obama folks are so happy they are now strapped with more debt...do you really think this is gonna help you at all...you better hold on tight, it's gonna be a long, long ride. I do find it hilarious that with all these folks that Obama wanted to place in high positions had tax issues themselves. I guess it is easy to use other people's tax dollars when they dont pay their own. Yep, we made history, biggest stimulus package ever in this country's history...yeah boy yes we can....LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Republicans are so evil and are ignorant....... There are only three republicans that I can consider " true , patriotic americans ", and they are Susan Collins , Olympia Snowe , and Arlen Specter .
The rest of the republican senate, and congress are just as Michele Bachmann of Minn. , the republican congresswoman claimed on the Chris Matthews program just before the 08` elections , .. " that some members of congress were Anti – American ", at the time she apparently was correct , as she is now ........ Only now we understand who they are , The REPUBLICANS in her own PARTY !!!!

At this point, the Republican attacks are laughable. "This country is going down the wrong path" I beleive the last 8 years was the wrong path that led us to this. I mean, is it too hard for you to gain some prespective or have you completely closed out your mind?

so we spend $100 BILLION on "stimulus" last spring for $500 checks that did NOTHING to stimulate the economy. Then we spend who knows how many hundreds of millions of dollars to bailout AIG, Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, then we spend $700 BILLION on TARP that possibly helped more banks from failing, now we will spend north of $800 BILLION on more "stimulus" that everyone hopes will work but may not, then we will be asked to spend another possibly TRILLION dollars to further bailout the financial industry in the next few months or so when the last leg of TARP fails.

Please remember America, this is ALL deficet spending and we will pay interest on all of this.

I am 45 and can kiss my social security goodbye – Thanks for everything Government. Government got us into this mess (both Republicans AND Democrates) and Government will surely dig the hole a LOT deepper.

America – it is our politicans that caused this mess and now we will give more than 2 TRILLION dollars for them to spend this year to stimulate our economy. Don't know who is more stupid – us or our politicans

Obama's conference last night made a convincing argument. ECONOMISTS are the experts on how to stimulate the economy NOT politicians. Even the 800+ billion may not be enough...we can blame the Republican for chopping-off the rest of his plan.

    To John:
You are a nut job! Seriously! Do you know if the Republican just dissappeared what it would be? A one party system! Do you know what one party systems ALWAYS end up as? A DICTATORSHIP! Please use common sense, the Democrats are there to keep the Republicans in check while the Republicans keep the Democrats in check, thats how its been and how it should go.

Thank you President Obama and your Clinton gang you call your cabinet. You have just ensured that the GOP will live on and will only get stronger as you make more and more blunders like this (your Bush hating delusional followers not with standing)

I feel sorry for you that you may very well have allowed the rest of your part to define your presidency (with this bill) in your first MONTH of being in office.

Ironic that you won the election but all of American has lost AND and they don't even know or care.

I can not believe the audicity of the Republicans! The only reason this stimulus is needed is because of the mess that Bush and his regime left our country in. President Obama is getting us out of the mess that Republicans left. Remember? He did not create the mess, he inherited it. Congratulations Mr. President! Keep up the great work!

  11. Still Waiting for the Politics of Hope

"Do something, even if it's wrong" should not be governmental policy. What ever happened to actually sitting down and figuring out a solution? Why has it been replaced by just throwing money at a problem and HOPING it works? Oh, I guess that's what they meant by the "politics of hope"...

It turns out fear-mongering works just as well for Democrats as it did for the Republicans when it comes to getting their way!

You morons talk about socialism, you had no problem with the corporate socialist/welfare bill that bailed out the banks did ya?? Or the fact that we have been rebuilding the country of Iraq road by road, brick by brick, school by school but for something for your own country you call it socialism. You rethuglicans should be ashamed of yourselves.

Robin.....the building of schools will require the HIRING of workers to build, administrative staff to manage and run the offices of the construction teams; financial people to run payroll and budgeting; the upgrading of the medical records system and healthcare systems will require workers to do the work and upgrades, cross referencing and IT upgrades installations. For the construction work, there will be manufacturers needed to make the products and supplies, truckers needed to transport, mechanics needed to keep those trucks running, and so on and so on and so on and all of those people will use their earnings to pay bills, buy groceries and goods and the stores will be able to hire more and employ more people who will be using their earnings to pay bills, buy goods and groceries and put money into the economy. Money has to change hands and allow others to grow in order to build the economy.

Cutest quote on money from Hello Dolly: "Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It's not worth a thing unless it's spread around encouraging young things to grow."

YEA!!! So tired of the Republican representatives who are griping and happy that there were at least 3 Republican senators who were willing to sit down and try to find a compromise!

All of you haters blasting the Republican party for trying to stop this. Will you be sure and let us know in these blogs as soon as you get your money? We will be waiting anxiously for your joyful news.

Get ready to be disappointed. This was one big slab of pork, and republican or democrat, anyone who voted for this jabba-the-hutt spending package just devalued the dollar even further.

If you do finally get the thousands you think you will, don't be surprised if you have to use it all just to buy a month's groceries.

Fire up the printing presses. The only people who will benefit from this are the ones who sell green ink to the treasury. Oh, yeah, and those who sell red ink to congress.

Hey, Ref, the saddest day in our country happened way back in 2000 when Bush got selected president and then again in 2004 when people were duped into voting for him again - add to that the election was stolen. People bought into Bush's lies time and time again. Why is it that so many can't stand to hear a little truth now?

Are you $%&ing kidding me? Healthcare is the single most expensive thing that American workers and the American company's have facing them. do you not know this? Do you not understand that with a fix to the health are problem, beit through tax credits or some sort of universal care that ALL American will have more cash on hand ergo having the ability to spend on things they want, you know ,like a house or a car. Get your head out of the sand Rick.....I sure hope I am not mistaken for you Rick because we share the same name on this blog. You really should do some research before you write this crap up.

The Republicans are on CNN now complaining about the bill. Sam Sixpack, if something isn't done, your children will not have much to look forward to. Why don't you understand that!

PLEASE READ THE HISTORY BOOKS. The Republicans are repeating the lessons OF president Hoover...
Also, to the Republicans on TV-STOP SAYING ON TV what the Americans want or do not want. You do not speak for me or anyone I know. I am tired of you saying "most americans want this or that." YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE MAJORITY ANYMORE, face it!.....

The House Republicans are still waiting for more tax cuts. That is the only tune they can play, because that is the only one they know. The one who dares to step out of line will be marked and ostracized, but sometimes you have to stand up if you are an authentic being.

Three cheers for the "one-tune orchestra"

Listening to the Rebublicans voice of their view on the stimulus bill!
Are these people really from EARTH? Nothing more than being upset that they don't run the train anymore. And they are the ones, no matter how you put it, that were in CONTROL that got us to the TRAIN WRECK that has happened! WHERE were all these cry babies during the time a plan was being drafted? Again, I say, these are critical & demanding times and requires tough & demanding answers! President Obama & his team came up with a plan. The Republicans did nothing, other than to try and protect themselves and their totally sorry party!!! I pray that this plan will work & help US, the american people!!

I am watching the Republicans call for transparency on TV. I suppose it's ok for them to bang out laws behind closed doors, and shove policies down THE AMERICAN PEOPLES throat when they are in control. They need to grow up and shut up! I am sick of them. I am the AMERICAN PEOPLE. The Obama administration is more honest than any republican administration has ever been. we are not perfect, but the republicans need to sept up to the plate. It is they who are out of touch with the AMERICAN PEOPLE. Kick them all out in the next election.

I am from former Sovier Union. I left that country some 19 years ago and became a citizen of this great land 5 years later. Looks like United States has now welcomed these same politics of former Soviet Union, which is socialims with government in control of every affair and welfare and social programs spending. But you know what really is sad? Socialism didn't work in the USSR (Soviet Union) nor any other country. Why then bother implementing these politics in this country is beyond me? The fundamentals of our capitalistic economy will not work under socialist rule. Say goodbye to prosperity.

I hope Mr. Obama will be happy when our economy is sucked dry – perhaps that was his intentions from the beginning.

    You're in America now, baby!

Hopeless in America – please study the depression and how America pulled out of it. I know you feel hopeless but your idea of not spending is actually wrong. Please read history and please listen to the economists, not to politicians!
