Will Obama get a beer with Sean Hannity.
Will Obama get a beer with Sean Hannity.

(CNN) - They're the unlikeliest of drinking buddies: President Obama and one of his fiercest critics - Fox News host Sean Hannity.

But the two may just be getting closer to sharing a bottle or two– so long as Hannity is willing to foot the bill - according to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs.

"Get him a six pack of Budweiser and we'll meet Hannity anywhere he wants to go," said a laughing Gibbs, who also added the meeting should take place in public otherwise "nobody would believe it actually happened."

The comments come one day after the president was asked at a town hall in Indiana whether he would take up Hannity's open invitation to meet for a beer.

“I didn't know he had invited me for a beer, but I will take that under advisement…I'm always good for a beer." Obama said.

Hours later on his radio program, Hannity said he's pleased with the president's gesture.

"It seems like he's opened the door that he wants to meet with me," he told his listeners. "Now if he does, I would go on your behalf.”

Matthew, you call Barack a lazy President? That's laughable! Umm, he's been President now for about . . . 2 weeks? You people kill me! And our debt is growing, you say . . . Ummm, the same debt that he INHERITED?? Listen, my advice to you is not to worry because now we have someone who is INTELLIGENT in the White House who can certainly handle the job! And President Obama has done more in 2 weeks that Bush did in eight years! So get a life! Better yet, keep your ignorant comments to yourself!

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. It's simply that simple. Especially, if they are Republicans and Democrats that help create the problem and IRONICALLY are voting against the solution.

Man.. Hannity is just an entertainer. He just cares about his rating. Do you really trust what he says?

BT   February 10th, 2009 11:45 am ET

I doubt if a six pack of beer would help Hannity tell the truth.
Challenge him to shots and I bet he'll tell the truth after, oh, a dozen or so!

I heard Hannitty has purchased a new suit in anticipation for the meeting. He has also invited his friends and family to be there with their cameras to record the event with "THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN. I am going to be more popular he declared.

Republican obstructionist in the congress and senate are a bunch of morons for pushing TAX CUT as the solution to every problem .
How can a tax cut benefit an unemployed worker?
This a question any one with common sense should ask this folks of the Taliban party

Obama is giving this radical psycho too much recognition, is he going to meet with Limpball next? Maybe Dobson and Pat Robertson too? All these wacko-nut-jobs are social parasites who deserve to be left out in the cold. They arrogantly preach hatred, bigotry, ignorrance and fear that damages our country. Worse than any Tailiban or Chavez.

Is meeting with Sean Hate Hannity a really good use of the President's time? Hannity is a hater and does not support our President – wouldn't he call someone like that un-American?

PA Republican for Obama   February 10th, 2009 11:40 am ET

Hannity is not worth 5 seconds of the President's time, let alone the time it would take to share a beer. I'm all for the President reaching out to opposing viewpoints, but some folks, like the Fox News hatemongers and windbags are just not worth it. They just want the attention, and will continue to spread hatred and division no matter what you do.

I started to watch SEAN HANNITY SHOW after the STIMULUS PACK released. I like his show because he convinced me with facts not words. I watch his show every night now. Too bad President Obama, I LOVE HIS SHOW NOW though I voted for you. You are good at campaigning but not good at governing. Look at your harsh words towards those who disagreed with you. I could not remember any prez.. had such low EQ.

I regret I voted for you. No more next time.

ONE EYE CATCHING COMMENT. PRESIDENT BARAK OBAMA WAS UNABLE, UNABLE AND COULD NOT ANSWER, THE QUESTION ASKED BY THE VETERAN PRESS PERSONALITY, NAMELY HELEN THOMAS. Sean Hannity is not worthy of meeting with the President... I don't think our President should entertain him one little bit.

Oh yeah, and, Hannity is a joke.

Chris from NC   February 10th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Hey, maybe someone could post it on Youtube, so we can see how much of an idiot Sean Hannity really is when he's less than sober.

Gobama   February 10th, 2009 11:33 am ET

I would like to see a live interview with Hannity so that faux news couldn't go and edit President Obama's responses to fit their twisted agenda.

By the way "Dubya" would have never agreed to sit down with anyone that had an opposing view than his.

Just shows the level of integrity this man has, glad he's president and not other guy.

Chris   February 10th, 2009 11:33 am ET

I did not vote for our president and am not his biggest fan. But if he is willing to meet with one of his most fierce critics, he will gain some trust in my eyes. I think it would be very healthy for our current state of partisan bickering. I hope you do it Mr. President. There is 47 million of us that did not vote for you. You said that you want our support, this could be the first step.

If anything it would be very entertaining.

d-dub   February 10th, 2009 11:33 am ET

I think the meeting would be great, now the new president can meet one of the new leaders of the gop party. Now maybe Hannity can move a little to the center

Justin Caldwell, Houston Tx   February 10th, 2009 11:33 am ET

it's ok Mathew. we know, you can't beleive it. it's just hard to deal with isn't it? Barack shouldn't be geting this 76% appoval rating. he's been president for a whopping month! way more than enough time to fix the worst economic problem since the great depression. and i'm with you matthew, he's soooo lazy. soooo lazy that he put together his administration faster than any president before. sooooo lazy that he spends time and energy trying everything he can to UNITE washington to a level of bi-partisonship.

KLK   February 10th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Obama shouldn't meet with Hannity. That will just validate Hannity's existence on the Earth. Hannity needs no validation.

jenn   February 10th, 2009 11:32 am ET

I almost feel sorry for Hannity. He is a mental midget compared to Barack Obama, and he would not be able to keep up in any meeting between those two men. Obama's a better person than I am if he would even consider meeting with that ignorant reactionary blowhard.

Oh–and I have to add this to "Matthew, Detroit"–ROFLMAO. That is about the silliest thing I have ever read here. He's been president for less than a month and has already signed many major executive orders and pieces of legislation. And here's a little tip: We have these things called computers and cell phones now. Obama can work anywhere.

Anthony Smith   February 10th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Hannity comes across as one you wouldn't want to have a beer with. He is probably the loudest at the bar, the one who boasts about money but leaves a $1.50 tip, and the one who gets his *** kicked by the end of the night. On second thought, Prez, you should go!

Mike in Ca   February 10th, 2009 11:30 am ET

Hannity does not represent the party of Lincoln. he is just a hateful right wing ideologue, spouting nonesense for TV ratings.

Lee in TN   February 10th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Meeting with an extremist like Hannity is a waste of the President's time. These neo-conservative types that have taken over and all but destroyed the republican party, cannot be satisfied. They are only interested in feeding their insatiable egos and self-centeredness, just like our senator here in TN, Bob Corker. They continue to put their hidden agendas above the American people and the health of our country.

kelly WI   February 10th, 2009 11:29 am ET

What a soft ball "press" last night. Just fear mongering and campaign talk.
Too bad Hannity couldn't have asked a question. If he Obama meets with him he might learn something and get some common sense.
Its time Obama quit being big nanny and start being commander in chief.

"Hannity is a racist" ever hear of Robert Byrd who is a hero in your party of the Rev Wright who is a hero to your "messiah", they are racists and proven ones.

Obama hasn't even been in office for a month and his critics are complaining he hasn’t done anything, which is already more than Bush did in eight years.

Why does Shawn Hannity even matter? He’s not really a valid journalist. He’s a self-appointed opinion leader whose views are not based on reality. He becomes physically angry when he sees the world is not conforming to his delusional landscape so I think it would be best to keep him away from beer. Since Mr. Hannity is an advocate on the war on drugs he must concede alcohol is also a drug and could be a contribution to his twisted outlook.

Mary G. from Michigan   February 10th, 2009 11:27 am ET

Sean Hannity is a corporate PUPPET !! Mary Jo it must be nice to see Hannity get paid BY BIG DEEP POCKETS TO IMPEDE CHANGE AND cause CORPORATE BIGGOTRY ... all while the American people try to LIVE ..

All you idiots are all alike ... let's sick back and nit pik this administration while Americans continue to suffer, lets sit back and watch our well suited and tied (Rep) congressmen put on their fancy shoes every morning and march up to that white house to IMPEDE NECESSARY CHANGE THAT IS NEEDED in oorder for REGULAR people to leave.
I bet if they had to take a big paycut or reduced their HRS on the job ... they would sing a different tune

And Matthew lets not foget which President is really to blame for the way our country LOOKS right now .. AT least Obama is suggesting a solution ... WE THE PEOPLE DONT HAVE TIME FOR CONSERVS TO BICKER BACK ON FORTH ... WE HAVE TO TRY SOMETHING AS OPPSED TO DOING NOTHING AT ALL ...

You want a reason to be angry be abgry at the two fat cats that just left office with their millions prob billions that the "war " PROVIDED THEM WITH !!! I'd like to see Hannity meet Obama... Have a brew... talk things over. I bet they'd get along! Most people find it easy to rail against others until they meet them and realize they aren't that bad.

All too often, we become crazed, making irrational comments on websites like CNN without really thinking first... Obama isn't lazy, he's working his butt off. Our debt IS growing, but that due to the interest we are paying on it since Obama hasn't "spent" anything since entering office.

indianapolis   February 10th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Matthew...he's been in office all of 22 days, and you're ready to measure his accomplishments on that? Why don't you look back at the last 8 years and see how many productive things the Bush administration did. If we measure success based on terrible policy and flat-out failure to lead this nation, then I guess Bush goes down as one of the best. Why don't you hold off on the name calling ("clearly he is lazy")...you run the risk of looking racist, or at best just uninformed and dumb.

Ralph   February 10th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Matthew from Detroit, when Barack became president, his first gift from the previous administration was a deficit close to a trillion dollars wrapped in a bow. Can you "fix" that problem in less than a month??? I don't think anyone can. How can you call the man "lazy" and it hasn't even been a month yet? Do you watch the news at all? All the things he's been doing, trying to get everyone in agreement on a bailout plan..... that man is doing a lot of work, don't see anything "lazy" about it.

OHIO MAN   February 10th, 2009 11:22 am ET

@ Matthew, Detroit

I see you been at the Bottle early this morning... can you break down how Prez. Obama is lazy? If he is out there talking face to face with the American people that are having the most felt impact with this problem we have... as to where lil Bush only retreated to the ranch and sent out statements about what’s going on ... what u seem to not understand is that if you do go out and see the problem then sitting behind a desk can sometime cloud ur thoughts about the situtation.. At least he is going and places to see first hand as to what’s going... but in ur world that’s not good enough... look no 1 has a answer to this BIG problem but some 1 has to try something .. did we all forget the 750 billion that lil bush got so fast and just pretty much gave away with no 1 even talking about the American people that didn't see a dime of that .. No that’s what I call a spending bill but to you and some that’s not a big deal... got to laugh at you

AJ   February 10th, 2009 11:21 am ET

This is ridiculous. With all the justifiable and important demands on the President's time and attention, the idea that he's going to waste even a second of it on this idiot Hannity is offensive. I know of course that Obama said during the campaign that he'd be willing to sit down with America's enemies, but I thought that was limited to world leaders who might have some hope of being brought around to supporting our democratic ideals. Hopeless fascist buffoons like Hannity, in contrast, aren't worth the effort. Why legitimize him like this?

You know as well as I do the day after the meeting, Hannity will have nothing nice to say. He will continue to blast Obama no matter what they talk about. Why not invite Rush too, and Bill O'Reilly...wth.... Its all about ratings anyway....

Obama has inherited a huge mess from the last 8 yrs of failed policies. It hasnt been a month yet into his presidency and people are so critical and blaming him for America's problem. It seems like everyone that posts something has all the answers and solutions to this economic crisis..I give the president an A+ just for effort alone !!

Cindy, PA   February 10th, 2009 11:19 am ET

This would be the first action this president takes that would be good for America; this may lead to some ideas and tactics that will work.

Cathy   February 10th, 2009 11:19 am ET

Hannity is full of D U N K

big papa   February 10th, 2009 11:19 am ET

I despise Hannity and his followers more than I do bin Laden...

Obama is REALLY a decent human being!

Joseph   February 10th, 2009 11:19 am ET

Im loving this presidency so much! What a refreshing change.

Paisley Pink   February 10th, 2009 11:19 am ET

I LOVE SEAN! What a cool thing this is. The Bama is meeting with Sean. Love it. I hope they take tons of pictures.

Ravi   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Yes! Please do it, Mr President! It's always a wonderful thing to see two people who didn't see eye to eye put their differences aside and come together. I've never liked Hannity, but this really caught me off guard.

sherry   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Hannity is a rightwing nut job......

He clearly has an ulterior motive.......

Hannity limbaugh and foxnews...............their way or no way.

Sarah   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Who cares? Hannity is just a talk show host – why would anyone care if he got to meet with the president?

sacredh   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

I'd rather Obama pal around with Bill Ayers. Hannity is much worse.

The Teester   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Slip Hannity a Mickey. The Republicans have been serving this country Mickeys for 8 years and the country is hungover...

southerncousin   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

If I were Hannity, I would be worried Hussein will bring along some of his thugs and do some more harm. Look what they have done to Sarah Palin, her grandson, John McCain and Joe the Plumber. He is not a tolerant man. Even Joe the hairplug feels his wrath.

JSU-TIGER99   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Matthew, Detroit how can you say he is a lousy president when he just got in office, did you say the same about the president that put us in the shape that we are in now, thats who you need to be calling lousy a person who had eight year to do this country good what did he do he kept all his rich friends richer and he kept you where you are now....LMAO@U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kt   February 10th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Waste of time to meet with Hannity. I can't believe MaryJo suggested that Hannity "should be listened to by Obama".....ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Obama is NOT a conservative! You had your eight years and look where it got us.
If we are going this route...Obama should listen to ME!!!

Nicky in Maryland   February 10th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Don't go Mr President! It would be an utter waste of time.

Sam Chandra   February 10th, 2009 11:17 am ET

While Hannity does present some conservative tax reduction as a method of creating jobs as opposed to social engineering, I think President Obama will diminish his stature as the President by meeting with him. Hannity takes it over the top too often and comes across as a conservative extremist sometimes... and Obama.... well he is no drama Obama. No need for Obama to bolster Hannity's viewership by giving him fodder for his show. If Hannity didn't bully people on his show so much, he'd have better credibility

CONNIE   February 10th, 2009 11:17 am ET

SEAN HANNITY is a decent guy he doesn't say he doesn't like Obama he does like his spening plan and he doesn't like chris dodd or barney frank that much is clear. Go have beers together and see what comes of it.

Vivienne   February 10th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Hannity is a nut job. The last thing that my President needs to do is meet with this conspiracy crack pot.... oh... and did I mention Hannity is once known for palling around with White Supremacist's. Yes, in his early radio days he used to court a creep on his radio program. This would be before he got on with FOX. After getting a deal with FOX he had to throw his friend away because it would have gotten in the way of him advancing his career. That would be why he is so obsessed with a black man who endeavored to think he could be President and actually pulled it off. Sean Hannity is a nut and he is the kind of guy who would harm Barack, Michelle, Sasha and Malia if he could get up close on that family. Yeah... I hope Barack knows that this man is nuts.

Why would a white man obsess over black man? Strange.

Larry   February 10th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Why does the President give these right wing extrremists any kind of acknowledgment what so ever? When responding to a question about Hannity, Rush or other similar subhumans, the President should just say, "This person is an idiot and doesn't deserve the time of day, next question."

john   February 10th, 2009 11:17 am ET

are you two serious? Sean Hannity is a RADIO PERSONALITY- he's not elected to represent me or even steer me in any direction. Please, Please, please, start to think for yourself.

Kevin in Ohio   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Now THIS is change we can believe in!

steve   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Democrats should use every opportunity to remind the Taliban -Republican party (according to pete session) that they are losers in this fight to revive the US economic plight.

Ivy Belle   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

President Barack Obama has been in office for less than a month. It would be nice if people would give him an opportunity to begin to get his own ideas/programs working in Washington D.C. before throwing stones and making false statements .

It took EIGHT years to create this mess and it's going to take longer than a few weeks to get out of it!

RW   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

John McCane once said something like this
"if you get in a mud fight with a pig he may love it"
Mr. President Obama, take care and watch the mud, Sean Hannity has a load of it.

Dan   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

I am happy that Barack wants to meet Sean Hannity. This is the way to go to Barack. You are a fresh guy and you need lot of listening and learning. Sean Hannity will have straight talk with you and I am sure you will change your liberal ways. This is very important to this country. You cannot shelter MoveOnOrg and Huffington Post (Imagine they could get a chance to ask you question last night.. What are they? Do you want to bring them in the mainstream media). I do not know how many times you will have have beer with Sean but I am sure he is going to sacrifice it for the sake our great country.

Danny G. Boca Raton, FL   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Funny how the critics find places to spew their hate... the fact is that even Hannity is pleasantly surprise with the president over this gesture... fine let them meet... the president is not afraid of any questions.. also I believe he is doing the right thing... I personally think that more tax cuts are not going to do the trick; I like the spendig measures and contrary to many I believe they will create millions of jobs... I do hope for more transparency and I hope that the bank initiatives the will be put in place spur more loans from the banks. as for Mr. Obama going out and talking to the American people "LORD BE PRAISED" this is what the president should be doing; he needs to educate the American people so that we know what his plan is and how to help... this is the job of every citizen to participate in the solution. Bill O'relly said last night that republicans don't want to be a part of any bill if it fails... great then may I suggest we get involved so that it does not... just waiting for the other side to fail is not only politics as usual but in the words of many republicans in the past "un-patriotic"; I guess they got Rush's memo...

David/Florida   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Hey Matthew, You must be one of those repugs that are never satisfied. Why dont you move to Crawford so you can be with the stupid W and make sure you stay there for good. Dont insult my President, OK you SCUMBAG

Amy Morton   February 10th, 2009 11:16 am ET

My advice to Obama? Swap bottles and make sure he drinks first.

lorenzo starks   February 10th, 2009 11:15 am ET

yes! he is lazy! the day after he won the election! he was already at work organizing his transition team. he so lazy he's been trying to push his bill. going to meeting to meeting. after he took oath and went to 10 parties the next morning, with little sleep he went to work. just because he's black and you didn't vote for him doesn't mean he is lazy

lolo from nc   February 10th, 2009 11:15 am ET

"It seems like he's opened the door that he wants to meet with me," he told his listeners. "Now if he does, I would go on your behalf.”

Hannity is the last person Obama would want to watse his time with he was just being polite. What arrogant a– blowholes hannity and limbaugh are. Obama should tell all hannityites and ditto heads if they think they can do a better job, run for office otherwise stfu.

Sue M   February 10th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Boy what sorry losers........lazy is he? I don't think so he is out trying to reach out and stay connected to the people of this country........what do you want him to do, sit in the White House on his can like our last President? I bet you are one of those people who doesn't have a job and you just like to sit on your can and complain about everything......grow up and get a life Matthew in Detroit.

John   February 10th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Geez, Matthew of Detroit
The man has been president all of one month. Not much time in office to declare him a lousy president is it? And lazy? You clearly need some oxygen and or more fiber in your diet.

Ryan   February 10th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Matthew – You do realize the man has been in office for not even one month, right?

Glad to see this on CNN's homepage. With the sky falling everywhere we look, it's nice to see a little light news. Too bad Obama drinks Budweiser, though.

Joe from Oklahoma   February 10th, 2009 11:15 am ET

I think the President should meet with his critics...Only if all the Q & A's are NOT edited. Just a stright up dialogue, better yet live.

pat C.   February 10th, 2009 11:14 am ET

hannity is nothing but a bigot and president obama should not waste his time on such. palin is more hannity speed.

C   February 10th, 2009 11:14 am ET

(Matthew, Detroit) – So are you saying that playing couch potato in the White House the last 8 yrs, while our economy tanks, our soldiers are sleeping on the dessert floor, American drown after a hurricane, is the thing to do. Republicans said to do nothing about our present economy, so our outgoing, energetic, and hardworking President got off his a.. to speak directly to the people that put him in power to "CHANGE" how the last guy was doing things, rather than hide behind the White House walls making terrible decisions! You must be a Republican; makes sense you would say something like that!

Gina Thomas   February 10th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Give Him a break Matthew:

He's been in office less than a month and you thought he would wave a magic wand and be done. welcome to the real world, one created by excess and secrecy...Sound familiar and most important Sin. The problems we face are God -sized and it is only through prayer and guidance will things be turned around.

SIDNEY P   February 10th, 2009 11:14 am ET

All I want to say is that Hannity is the reason I left the Republican Party after this election. His racisist narcissism ( rich race) has brought me to a new height of defense as a Spanish man. He does not like the idea of possitive change and does not speak for the very people he preach too. Here is the mark, Hannity was so against Muslims but not Terror, he was against the Idea that a truly gifted and people oriented politican had the right skills to be President. He even runs around talking about how he loves Lincoln, but Hannity don't know that Lincoln was a common man who was feed up with the same bull that was being put down peoples throats back then. It would be interesting to see. Hannity you are not a Great American especially when you are not advocating for America as a whole. What about the people that helped you get your wealth and depend on you to help them get there, but you are so selfish you want to keep them down and that means that you are a racist to White people, Spanish People and Black People. You are truly a person trying to bringing about the demise of America The Beautiful.

bill b. from Stratford,Ct   February 10th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Ha Hannity, guess what, Obama is the PRESIDENT and you're still spreading your hate speeches everyday. After all the mean, evil, lying things Hannity and his FOX news colonies have said about Obama, O will sit down with him, it just shows who's the BIGGER Person, that would be MR. PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PRES OBAMA.

Obama, leave the trash along and set it out just like we do our own garbage. He isn't even worth. He comes from the off springs of whose fate has been destined for unhappiness. Let him have a beer with that other radio host. I forgot his name. They are both losers. Let them take Sara Palin out for a drink.

Where's the pork?   February 10th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Hey, it's not like Helen Thomas and others are going to DARE ask him a followup question when he LIES about there being no earmarks in this bill as it is full of them unless you sheep like paying money for frisbee golf courses, bike paths, museum renovations and new furniture for Congress ETC, ETC, ETC.

How are those type of hings going to spur jobs and growth?

Uh, uh, uh, uh we need to do this NOW uh, uh, uh, uh where is that teleprompter?

No fan of Hannity, but maybe someone would then ask him a tough question about this pork barrel "payback" bill for his supporters all on OUR DIMES.

One and done Barry.

Joe Smith   February 10th, 2009 11:12 am ET

I think that President Obama should not go for a beer with Hannity or any of the other hate-mongers from the right. Their policies have gotten us into this mess and to meet with them, even over a beer, gives them a legitimacy they simply don't deserve.

Let them spew their inane, ridiculous rantings all they want, but don't give them any legitimacy. They appeal to the basest of the base, let them have him.

Thomas   February 10th, 2009 11:12 am ET

I am tired of the outdated Republican philosophy. We are in this crisis due to Republicans!!! I am a strong Independent. I might turn to the democratic party, if this tax cut mess continues. Tax cuts did not work for 8 years, now we are close to a Great Depression!!! The Republican party will continue to shrink with the outdated philosophy.

Dan Miller   February 10th, 2009 11:12 am ET

REG in AZ   February 10th, 2009 11:12 am ET

Hannity like Limbaugh and others is incapable of having an open mind, of being unbiased. As an ex-Republican-never-a-Democrat-now-Independent I see the Republican Party as having become totally disgusting and downright scary. At first I thought Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rice and a few others represented just a limited segment of the party with their irresponsible, self-serving sociopathic mentality. Today the reality is that the majority of the Party, those who strongly and stubbornly backed and supported Bush-Cheney and who now are just as arrogantly focused on faulting and blocking all efforts to resolve our current drastic problems, are at fault and are the cancer within. To fail to recognize and identify their unified and coordinated efforts to offer only deceptive rhetoric as they concentrate on playing politics for their own gain (obstructionists), being without any sincere conscience for their responsibilities, is to be naïve and gullible or vulnerably blinded by misplaced loyalty. The real problem is that they have clearly demonstrated they think their own best interests are in concentrating on serving the few and disregarding the many, giving the majority only subterfuge without any real concern for the problems and that obviously is very costly for this country and for most Americans. After the neglect, irresponsibility and even criminal behavior of the last eight years, which the Party diligently supported, having been totally focused on benefiting Special Interests and a select few who returned overt and covert support, contributions and even promises for after-office (kickback) compensation, you may think that, because of all of the extensive problems that generated, the Republican Party would now be humbled and concerned with turning their act around – not so, in fact they are as bold as ever, and that is just totally scary!

SIDNEY P   February 10th, 2009 11:12 am ET

Matthew, Detroit

Welcome to the USA, seems you were out of the country and in a cave for 8 years. That's fine. Quick update for yea. Were in this mess because of the last 8 years of innaction.... Obama just got started... like.. a month ago. Oh, and problems.. as big as the one affecting the WORLD right now.. aren't typically solved in a month... especially problems that started 8 YEARS AGO. Trash your house and do no cleaning for 8 years... now go fix it in 30... DOH!!

Mag   February 10th, 2009 11:11 am ET

obama-mama   February 10th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Matthew in Detroit are you serious? How can you say he is a lousy president after all he has done in a 3 week span. You're funny

Ken   February 10th, 2009 11:11 am ET

It is pretty sad that the only way Obama the clown will meet Sean Hannity is over a beer. Really pathetic.

Steve   February 10th, 2009 11:10 am ET

I wouldn't legitimize Hannity, because there's no point in it; Hannity is a guy who's going to fault a Democratic president no matter what he does, because that's how Hannity makes his money. Hating Democrats and keeping the country divided and fighting is his shtick; he's got absolutely nothing to gain from compromise, because that would be the death of his career. So Obama has nothing to gain from this, other than to show he's not afraid of talking to a nothing like Hannity, while Hannity would get ratings points. But, if that's what Obama wants to do, what the hell. He did say he would talk to America's enemies, and Hannity is definitely one of those.

Whoa! Cool!! Oh....   February 10th, 2009 11:10 am ET

I thought the article was interesting until I read the last part of the last line:

""Now if he does, I would go on your behalf.”"

What an air bag. "I'm so loyal to my people, I shalt go forth on thine behalf"

Drama queen.

Don't waste your time Barry.

Don't meet Hannity for anything. I have no respect for him whatsoever. Glen Beck, maybe but Hannity no way.

TIME TO REVIVE THE USA!!!   February 10th, 2009 11:08 am ET

Why give this moron Hannity the honor of meeting with the President? First he acknowledges douche limbaugh and now this. Come on, Mr. President! I like the idea of bipartasianship, but these two guys are so far right they're coming up on the left.

JSG   February 10th, 2009 11:08 am ET

Not only is this an moronic article, CNN uses a period instead of a question mark under the picture. Who writes the tickler? Do they just pawn it off on some intern? It always has the most irrelevant stories written with the intelligence of a third grader. If I wanted that, I'd be checking Fox News

Dan, NJ   February 10th, 2009 11:08 am ET

Metting with Bill O did force that pompous wind bag to grudgingly admit Bill thought Obama was a "good man". Perhaps forcing the witch hunting Hannity to focus solely on policy differences instead of personal attacks would be a PR win for Obama.

Republican   February 10th, 2009 11:07 am ET

No, President Obama do not waste your time. Please focus on the economy!! I am a Republican and if I lose my job due to the republican politics and fruitless arguments as usual. I will change my political party period!!!

Vwood, MD   February 10th, 2009 11:07 am ET

I think it would be a terrible mistake for president Obama to meet with him. (I won't even type his name) Not that the President can't handle it, I don't think it would be worth his time or ours having to hear about it. I will turn to Fox if I want to hear anything he has to say, but I DON'T!

Don't do it Mr. President. He doesn't mean you or anyone of color any good.

Vwood

Hannity is the biggest jerk around why would he think Obama was afraid to meet with him, Hannity just blows alot of hot air and thinks President Obaama is intimidated by him what a bastard,

John   February 10th, 2009 11:06 am ET

I am all for respectful engagement with all your adversaries. However, Obama can not afford to lead and dialogue with every wanabe just like you cannot expect to win a hundred meter dash while responding to every nay sayer in the stands. As our population becomes at least a decent Highschool graduate, then the Hanity's and Limbaugh's will run out of buisness in time as the trend continues.

Clay Dowling   February 10th, 2009 11:05 am ET

That would be a special sort of sit-down. We'd have an extreme right-wing talk show host of only moderate intelligence, juxtaposed against one of the most level headed, smooth talking presidents we've ever had in our country. I have trouble seeing something like that coming out in Hannity's favor.

Maurice from Ontario   February 10th, 2009 11:05 am ET

That doesn't sound very authentic, Mr. Hannity. Instead of going "on your listeners' behalf," I would have thought you might have been moved to take a step forward just "on your own", like a big boy.

J.D.   February 10th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I can't stand Hannity, but I hope the President goes. Maybe then Hannity would have at least one nice thing to say about our President.

Budweiser? Yeech... Obama really is willing to go to the end of the earth to be bi-partisan.

I don't know, getting drunk with a Conservative...I've seen it first hand, LOL!! Are you sure you wanna do that? LOL!! Na'h, I'm playing, I'm playing. It is a good gesture for the Prez to have something like that with Hannity, considering we know what's his job. I mean, come on, you think President Bush would've invited Pelosi or any other liberal to go for a drink?? Come on, our former president is the one who called out the left during the RNC...talk about different paths that's for sure.

I don't know, watch out with Conservatives getting drunk...trust me, LOL!!

Mike   February 10th, 2009 11:04 am ET

Forget beer. To sit through a meeting with the likes of Hannity, the President's going to need something a lot stronger.

Florida Dude   February 10th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Why meet with such a vile and disgusting person. Hannity has shown that he is not open to civil disagreement. I paint Hanninty and Rush with the same brush.

A little humility may be in order, Hannity, you think?

Ed Word   February 10th, 2009 10:59 am ET

.......And I'd hope some 6' 8" hard-drinking construction worker knocks Hannity on his butt for taking his seat.

Don't give this hatemonger an audience, Mr. President. He'll just go back on-air, knifing you in the back.

Jackie in Dallas   February 10th, 2009 10:59 am ET

I guess Hannity didn't hear what President Obama said the night of the election, or in his Inaugural Address: he wants to President of the UNITED States. It's only too bad that the GOP and neo conservatives would rather put their agendas above the needs of the country and its people.

Hannity is a racist   February 10th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Hannity , Rush, and O'Relley are a low life racists who will be destroyed in very short time.

Mike from Ohio   February 10th, 2009 10:59 am ET

This story sickens me. Why does Obama pay so much attention to right wing extremists? He has made Hannity and Limbaugh famous. These are the two biggest bigots in the world. MR. PRESIDENT, ALTHOUGH i AM YOUR BIGGEST SUPPORTER, IF YOU DRINK A BEER WITH THIS RACIST, SEXIST, ANTI-SEMITIC BIGOT, I WILL BE FORCED TO GO ON AN OLBERMAN-TYPE RANT AGAINST YOU. You won. Hannity, McCain and Limbaugh lost. Stop talking about them.

Gardi   February 10th, 2009 10:59 am ET

If Sean meets with Obama, he'll be showing a certain grade of maturity that many non-Fox fans believes he lacks. It'd be good for the ratings. If he's planning an interview, he should save it for another day. He'd most likely get an interview with Obama in the near future this way. You catch more flies with honey...

hdf   February 10th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Spending time with Hannity would be like spending time with Bill O'Reiley, Rush Limbaugh, Bill Cunnigham or any of the other hypocrtical Right Wing Windbags; a wate of time and effort-even if they bought the beer. There are too many worthwhile and interesting people out there to spend you time with-Life Is Too Short!

Beverly, NYC   February 10th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Mr. President this is taking bi-partisanship too far. Word of caution BYB, bring your own beer. I don't trust Hannity as far as I can throw him and I can't stomach that show now that Allan Colmes has left. Hope his ratings tank .

Bill   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

This is ridiculous. Hannity is a nobody, Obama should just ignore him.

Hannity is a racist   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Why would obama want to have a beer with this racist KKK clan. I do not know why the president is giving this low like racists like rush and hannity attention they do not deserve. Please do not bring this people to your level.

Steve A. , New Braunfels , Texas   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Go for it Obama! It will be good for Hannity and good for the nation. I promiss you he is more afraid of you then you are of him.

demwit   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Don't forget to tell Alan to bring the blow. And don't let him welch on you, we know he's always holding..

Joe the Builder   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Interesting!

James in Utah   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

And this is news because?............. Is Hannity a critic of Pres. Obama and now wants to talk to increase ratings? Whatever.

David in KC   February 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Poor pathetic Hannity and his little cult of followers. Hoping desperately for a wee bit of fame while posing as a normal person. The Right is so irrelevant now it's comical.

Rob Johnson   February 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

It would be a good move for Obama. Whatever you think of Hannity, Limbaugh and the like, and I am no fan, they do represent millions of Americans. Obama can't afford to marginalize them, he needs to engage them in debate, which is one of his strengths anyway.

I think both Obama and Hannity might be surprised by how much they have in common if they actually spent some time together. There are very few conflicts that can't be improved by increased communication, whether it is Obama and Hannity or Israel and the Palestinians.

Arkay, MI   February 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Can you imagine Dubya meeting with Keith Olbermann for a drink?

carlo   February 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

President is really just an everyday really nice guy. I hopw Hannity doesn't ruin the invitation of railroad the President once he extends such a gracious gesture, especially considering how badly Hannity talks about him.

Tino   February 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Ugh... don't stoop to the level of Fox News, Mr. President! You will just make them think that they are important!

Melissa   February 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

And this is news why? Men are forever saying this type of stuff. It means nothing one way or the other.

Justin   February 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

The president should not be meeting with hate mongers.

PATC   February 10th, 2009 10:55 am ET

Not a BO fan but this is actually a good idea. I think you would be surprised at how much easier it is to talk when both sides can sit down. We are all a lot more in common than we are not in common.

demwit   February 10th, 2009 10:55 am ET

"Obama is always good for a beer."

This is what I'll tell my grandchildren when they ask me why they have to pay 50% in taxes..

Truth   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Drinking is more dangerous than Cannabis but the president can say "I'm always good for a beer."

Do you people see the ridiculousness of Cannabis prohibition yet? It is destroying lives for no reason.

The People's Court ... Verdict   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Just send him the beer Hannity ... don't try to crash a party where you have nothing in common with the guests and no one there really wants to hear what idiocity comees out of your mouth.

Ellie, MD   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Hannity is nothing but another "wanna be comic" just like his buddy Rush Limbaugh.

Do you honestly think President Obama gives a hoot about what these two comics think about him?

President Obama was being very "polite" to these fools.

Hannity and Limbaugh are no where near Obama's level of intelligence and integrity. President Obama can run circles around these jerks with his eyes close! LOL.

Neither Hannity nor Limbaugh have ever been in the White House. So jealousy is becoming very obvious in these two guys, they only WISHED they were a part of the White House circle.

All these guys do is talk "trash", anyone can do that. Talking trash is easy. They are not fooling anyone.

Proud Yankee   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Someone needs to teach Obama about beer....... Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Stone Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewing to name a few ..... Bud is corporate swill.

Shannon   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

I think it is very nice that Obama will meet with Hannity. I saw his show for the first time ever and hes crazy.I kept thinking is this news channel?? I'll stick with real new on cnn.

Virginia   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

For someone who is supposed to be such a wonderful role model, he sure does like to talk about drinking beer. And everyone ragged on Bush because he was a RECOVERING alcoholic........go figure.

Fred   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Good, maybe the two can hammer out some of their differences. Hopefully over better beer than Budweiser.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   February 10th, 2009 10:54 am ET

Hannity should have a beer with GWB and the rest of the GOP.

obama-mama   February 10th, 2009 10:53 am ET

That would surely interesting. I would watch. Bring an extra pair of shoes with you and do not leave your drink unattended.

Al, NY NY   February 10th, 2009 10:53 am ET

This is a laugh! Shammity will go on to the meeting, ask ridiculous questions, edit them and broadcast them on the "Shammity propaganda hour" as accurate answers.

Had It   February 10th, 2009 10:52 am ET

I wouldn't give Hannity the time of day.

MICK in MESA   February 10th, 2009 10:52 am ET

"I would go on your behalf"...
Just who does this guy Hannity think he is? Talk about a twisted image of self-importance. This clown's a right-wing, flame throwing mental midget with a following of low information types.
Gimme a break – don't waste the POTUS's time drinking beers with this anti-American bigot...

demwit   February 10th, 2009 10:52 am ET

And oh yeah Sean, don't forget to bring the weed!!

ANDREW OLARTE   February 10th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Beer solves alot of problems.

john   February 10th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Redic obama. why are you worried what the press says about you.. your the PRESIDENT... Bush was worried about playing to the press.

Scott   February 10th, 2009 10:51 am ET

Mr. President,
I will gladly have a Guinness with you – my treat!

KJL   February 10th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Obama is open-minded, which means he can use good ideas from "enemies" as well as friends. Good thing, because we need all the help he can get.

John in KY   February 10th, 2009 10:49 am ET

Hannity just wants his picture taken with OBAMA it's for Republican propoganda!
"DRINK ALONE HANNITY" or call BUSH or CHENEY!!!

Lisa, Boston   February 10th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Now that would be an interesting story! Follow up CNN, this I gotta see.

I am glad Hannity made the gesture and equally glad Obama is accepting.

Rorschach   February 10th, 2009 10:45 am ET

I really appreciate that Obama is not a stuffed shirt. Hannity's an oaf, and Obama owes him *nothing* - but Obama's still willing to sit across the table from him, drink a Bud and talk shop.

This I can admire.

bitter_in_pa   February 10th, 2009 10:45 am ET

If they meet they should consider an American beer rather than the foreign owned budweiser product.

MaryJo Bruce Surprise, Ariz   February 10th, 2009 10:44 am ET

Sean Hannity is fantastic. Hes got great ideas and should be listened to by Obama. Hes critical with the way America is going. Also along with most of the conservative base. Stop spending so much right now until we can get our economy going again. Would love to hear Hannity and Obama share ideas. Hannity will ask the hard questions few do and would be so interesting.

Matthew, Detroit   February 10th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Barack is a big cheerleadere and campaigner. He is a lousy president and clearly he is lazy. The guy cant stay at the whitehouse and get his work done. He thought he was going to spend his time like he has the last 4 years. He campaigns but does not actually accomplish anything. Our debt is growing. These guys are worse than the last group of spenders.
