Obama is praising news of a deal on the stimulus bill.

(CNN) - President Barack Obama on Wednesday praised members of Congress for apparently reaching a deal on a stimulus package.

“I want to thank the Democrats and Republicans in Congress who came together around a hard-fought compromise that will save or create more than 3.5 million jobs and get our economy back on track," he said in an issued statement.

Obama also highlighted comments from Caterpillar's CEO that he would rehire some laid-off workers if the bill passed.

"Just today, the CEO of Caterpillar said that if this American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is passed, his company would be able to rehire some of the employees they’ve been forced to lay off," he said. "It’s also a plan that will provide immediate tax relief to families and businesses, while investing in priorities like health care, education, energy, and infrastructure that will grow our economy once more."

CNN .... where is Eric Cantor's video? It is every where .... why not on the ticker?

The video shows the hypocrisy of some of our elected republicans ...

Yeah, the stimulus bill is OK. Too many tax cuts, though.

Why didn't Obama congratulate Harry and Nancy for their back-room closed-door negotiations on this bill??

Oh that's right... Obama said this type of thing would never happen in his administration!

Senator Ensign was being interviewed on CNN today when he offered as evidence that the Stimulus wouldn't work Japan's 90's Stimulus strategy...

The other day, Mitch McConnel did the same thing only HE cited FDRs post depression Stimulus Plan as having failed...

...What BOTH these CONFEDERATES won't say (and their interviewers won't press them on) is the fact that the reason BOTH Stimulus' weren't as effective as they could've been (and they were effective to a certain extent) because the spending was DISCONTINUED TOO SOON!

Nobel Prize winning Economist Paul Krugman made a rival network's morning pundit (who shall remain nameless AND clueless) look like an idiot with these facts...

Once again, the Republican conservative talking points are LIES!

Please let this be true. President Obama is trying so hard to make things work for all of us and he needs everybody to come together. I'm so happy he is smiling and not giving up.

Keep up the good work Mr. Obama.

This bill is a criminal act! The Democrats (and a few corrupt Republicans) are basically mortgaging this country in order to pay back their special interest donors and supporters. If our founding fathers were here, they would want every person in Congress who voted for this and the President arrested, tried, and........well, you know.

It seems a homeless woman gets a kiss from the President and offers are coming in to help her get a home because of the attention.

A one-legged doctor, who deserves help alright, especially after his commitment to helping others... gets a big news article written up about him by CNN... and will undoubtedly get help because of that.

I am a diabetic who can't get a job because there are no jobs to get. I am looking at all jobs and have even applied for work at a convenience store. Being overqualified is about the only reason I can imagine they are not hiring me.

Being diabetic, I cannot get healthcare unless it is as a member of a group... meaning I need a job.

How am I going to get help from the stimulus package??? What is President Obama going to do for me?

We have a great man in the United States Presidency.

He can congratulate when necessary and take responsibility when necessary.

  15. Get Real!!

I thought this bill would create or save 4 million jobs – now it's 3.5 million. Once again, Obama makes a promise and over time the promise is diminished or changed. He was going to bring our troops home when he bacame president, then it was within 16 months, now he's going to send them to Afghanistan NOT HOME. He wasn't going to have lobbyists in his administration, now he has 3. He appointed 3 tax evaders, one got through TO HEAD THE IRS! No earmarks in his bill, yeah, right. He was going to raise taxes for people making $250K, then it was $150K, then $100K, get ready America because someone is going to have to pay for this bill.

Did anyone ever stop and think that companies may start laying off workers just so they can get bailout money? I don't trust Congress or CEO's.

A good President thanks both sides of the aisle (even if they didn't support his agenda) for participating in the debate, and for voting their conscience. He respects the fact that they are the chosen voice of their respective constituents, whether they agree with him or not, and appreciates sincere 'agreeing to disagree' sentiments that are honorable.

  19. Had It

To have HOPE is a wonderful thing.

Too many are speaking negatively and causing great despair to the ones that were stolen from by the prevous administration and the wealthy old republicans.

After eight years under Republican rule it will take a lot to bring this country back to where we once were considered the envy of the rest of the world. Obama has my support along with millions of others. Thanks for nothing Geroge W. Bush for bringing this country to its knees. Must make you feel very proud. Carry on, OBAMA and do the job Bush failed at – the presidency.

Well the stock market certainly isn't praising Obama's 800 billion dollar plan.

So Obama tells America what his plan is and the stock market dropped 380 points yesterday and only rose 50 points today.

How is this a good sign? Investors don't support the plan, they will take their money and buy gold.

Did Bush ever go to the American people and offer anything, not a word. Bush hide away behind a skirt until he left office and left Obama and the American people this mess. I bet Bush isn't hurting.

And not one thing in it thats going to help the common person. The old and sick still getting 300.00? Heck, the old supposedly "homeless" lady he planted in his crowd today will probably get 100 times that by weeks end. Gee. She was AA too. Imagine that.

Alright. That's great. But really part of the deal is scrimping on schools? This is America's number one problem. We don't have people here smart enough to invent and produce. QUALITY EDUCATION SHOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. SPEND ALL OF THE STIMULUS ON EDUCATION. THAT WILL BRING AMERICA BACK.
