Capitol Hill Web sites crashing over stimulus bill

Congressional Web sites are crashing over the stimulus bill.
Congressional Web sites are crashing over the stimulus bill.

CAPITOL HILL (CNN) - Just hours after Congressional leaders posted the final version of a $789 billion stimulus deal, staffers on Capitol Hill faced both a surge of demand on key Web sites and an apparent technical glitch that crashed those sites off and on throughout the morning.

A spokesman for the Senate appropriations committee told CNN Radio that their site had been up and down all Friday morning. He said technicians had found an apparent server problem that was not related to increased demand.

The technical issue crashed the system at one of the most high-profile moments in years, intermittently blocking the Appropriations homepage and some of the few other sites where taxpayers could find the details of the economic stimulus deal Democrats posted specifics to the Internet late Thursday night. Staffers said that technology crews were working to fix the problem and restore the sites.

I hate to sound paranoid, but you really couldn't blame the Democrats in Congress FOR NOT WANTING ANYONE TO READ THIS BILL! This bill is for almost 800 BILLION BUCKS! Coudn't they wait a week and give people a chance to at least READ THIS before voting on it? This is insane........criminally insane.

Shades of things to come. The website crashed today. The economy will crash tomorrow. Both as a result of this Pelosi/Reid/Obama pork bill.

Okay...I'm about to geek out and get really corny and giddy, but isn't it cool that so many Americans want to be involved and know what is happening that we manage to overload and crash the site?

    Okay GeekTjaye signing out.

I'm so sick of the rethuglicans complaining about how we are leaving this big debt to our grandchildren. We didn't hear them say this when they started the Iraq war, when they lowered taxes for the rich, or when they ran up the debt so astronomically from 2000 to 2006. Now, all of a sudden, they want to cry about all the spending. They are such hypocrits.

When will the Republicans get it? They were in charge for 8 years, and now all of a sudden they have all the answers. Why didn't they try some of them when they were running things? We might all be better off, And why does the public listen to them and not realize this? Lets everyone be Americans and let the new administration try to make a difference.

So let me get this straight. Congress is just a few hours away from voting on this PORK-LADEN 800 BILLION DOLLAR JOKE OF A BILL, AND NO ONE HAS EVEN READ IT IN IT'S ENTIRETY! With gross incompetence like this in Washington, how could this country NOT be heading for financial collapse?

This sounds like a back-door way of hiding the bill just a little longer...

    @ wendell

What the hurry? Oh, I dunno, maybe the rapid downward spiral and continued destabilization of our economy. Maybe the THOUSANDS of jobs being lost EVERY DAY. Maybe the rampant forecolsure rate, lack of bank lending, rising rate of personal and corporate bankruptcy, etc.

Open your eyes! Wake up!! Stop blocking out all other sounds by blasting Limbaugh in your ears all day like an ideological blanky just to re-affirm that the world works the way you want it to instead of admitting that reality has its own agenda!!!

This stimulus bill is the biggest farce in American political history. When we have no money for Social Security who do we hold accountable? This is the biggect example of pork spending ever in the history of our country. I absolutely guarantee in one year we will be worse off than we are now. No good will come of this spending spree. Let's all remember when things started going bad! It was right after the democratic party started taking over congress. As an independent voter I can say confidently old Georgie had very little to do with this mess that the media would like us to believe he left us. No way this is entirely on the democratic party and we won't forget.

If President Obama really is the Messiah, I hope he sends all the Republicans to the Abyss, then we can have our own internet.

Too bad the spending bill didn't crash too. By the time this administration is done printing dollars, the Chinese are going to be outsourcing to the US to take advantage of our low wages!

@ sniffit: What's wrong. Can't read. Blaming the GOP for this is a ludicrous as thinking this will work.

    Sniffit & conspiracy,
It is those who voted for Obama who are the more tech savy i mean just look how the campaigns were run and you can see that. Just maybe people do actually care what is in the bill unlike what your democrat senators think. They promised transparency then tell us we do not care about pork in the bill.

  23. Republicans Hate America

They are about themselves and their money. They hate the children so they fight against educating them, well American children not the children of Iraq. They hate the sick, well the American sick not the sick in other countries because they run to help them. Tsunami–Katrina. They don't want Obama to do well and how do I know, well they say that they want him too.
Hey Republicans this is American Love It Or Leave It as I have heard all of my life from you haters. You are a sick bunch and I hate you too. I wish I could run you all into the sea like the pigs in the bible that you claim to live by.
Bush had money and they gave away the bank to Iraq but for us they just say no.

Freedom of Speech, via the interrnet is being denied. (A Web Crash)?

What next? I'm told that the new Stimulus Bill was finalized "in the dark of night" printed late, and not completely received in time for honest review by Congress. This is not a joking matter, or time for
literary statements; but a time, for Americans to question Congress.

Who cares what it says. I know enough. The democrats are cutting veterans, disabled and elderly while providing money for rich people to buy cars and illegal aliens to get foodstamps and healthcare on our dime. It's a sham, it's a shame and it's downright fleecing of the american tax payer.
