WASHINGTON (CNN) – The House of Representatives on Friday approved the $787 billion economic stimulus bill by a vote of 246-183.
Seven Democrats joined a unified Republican caucus in opposing the measure. The Senate is expected to hold a final vote on the stimulus package Friday evening.
Two weeks ago, the House approved an earlier version of the plan 244-188, with 177 Republicans and 11 Democrats voting against the measure.

Once again.. if the stimulus package works... and people are in a better place because of it... the Republican party will become the new Green or Libertarian party... insignificant.
The republicans didn't vote for this bill because they don't want to help the American. The republican party is all about helping the wealthy and the current economic situation is great for them being able to get "cheap labor".
We know liberals will bad mouth house republicans but what we don't know is who will bad mouth the 7 house dems for voting against this bill? i fully expect another lame count down in ..3..2..1. Oh wait!
Congrats President Obama! Now maybe we can get America rolling again!

Which leaves one to wonder why anyone bothered to address Republican concerns in the first place if they STILL won't vote for it.
This is what's going on: Republicans have agreed amongst themselves to unanimously oppose this bill in the HOPES that it fails to help our economy. They WANT it to fail and for the country to be in an even deeper recession. Then, in the 2010 elections, they can say "We knew better" and we'll all come flocking back to them.
They know that if it succeeds, we will not quickly forgive them for being unwilling to be party of the recovery process. They want this plan and this president to fail.
That is their plan. That is their hope. Failure for the stimulus plan, pain for us.
Anything to get elected – that's the Republican way.

the repubs are positioning themselves for the Pres and his plans to fail. should the package start getting the economy moving, they lose. they are still pushing the same tax cuts, which after 8 years has left us in this situation. isn't insanity doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results?
It is still not the package I would want to see...more infrastructure, aid to states and to education, but as many economists and financiers have said, it is probably only a start since we are such a deep hole...globally.
