House approves stimulus package with no GOP votes

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The House of Representatives on Friday approved the $787 billion economic stimulus bill by a vote of 246-183.

Seven Democrats joined a unified Republican caucus in opposing the measure. The Senate is expected to hold a final vote on the stimulus package Friday evening.

Two weeks ago, the House approved an earlier version of the plan 244-188, with 177 Republicans and 11 Democrats voting against the measure.

Matthew, Detroit take your thumb out of your mouth. Obama has tried to get the GOP to give input. He took money out and put tax cut in. The GOP pulled back on him and now you want 5 days consideration? You should look out the window and see the devastation to your city. Do you think you can wait 5 more days? First Jobs, then politics, your country is hurting and you are harping on political points. I read your post often. You are always crying about something. Be an American!

You call yourself a Capital Insider and you can't find the bill. What a Ruck!. Try Hotair.com or Huffingtonpost.com. Or even better, try CNN.com. They have a whole page on it. By the way, what ever happened to PUMA? Try PUMBA!

Matthew...you have got to stop listening to your lying conservatives. The deal is that they would have 48 hours; not 5 days AND they've had more than enough time to read it....at least those who put work into it read it. But, since Republicans refused to work with Democrats, they missed out.

Turning ones head, so you can't see is not the same as someone hiding something from your sight.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. I am SO SICK of hearing the Obstructionists have a better plan than the current bill – if they do - let's hear it or shut up if you don't!!! Lip service does not go far anymore!!!!! I didn't hear them complaining the 6 years they were in power under "W" & ran up the debt to unbelieve heights. I have an idea GOP – why don't you try downing something good for America instead of your own interests!

Good. Now let us start to get this country back on the right track and maybe in 2010 we will have even less Republicans in both houses.

    Frank, Las Vegas...

The Republicans did put country first.

That is why they wont waste our money. That is why they dont add pork or earmarks. Dont drink the kool aid. No one read the bill. What they could read they saw wasteful spending.

Frank if I buy you a box of condoms is it stimulus, Answer: only for you. 4.2 billion for ACORN. That is not stimulus, that is stealing an election. Wake up. Read the document. See the wasteful spending. You should be outraged that the goverment is rushing it through, because Nancy Pelosi is going on vacation.

The GOP destroyed the housing and financial markets deliberately in order to let their corporate buddies STEAL trillions of dollars. Why would they want to fix the problem? For Republicans, there is NO problem...except when there's no taxpayer or investor money to steal.

President Obama is clueless how to run our country. And the clinton influence is detrimental. Together they are wisdomless and unprincipled opportunists. One is an over-educated college kid who has no wisdom. The others would steel the wallet off a accident victim, and take advantage of young females.

These are our nations leaders? Atleast the last leader know how to kick the heck out of tyrants and terrorists.

And we want partisan politics to end? No way with the a–holes we've elected as our representatives. Shame on us for allowing these traitors to serve on our behalf.

    GOP=pathetic.

If Obama had wanted to spend a trillion on invading...ahem I mean spreading democracy to Iran, they would have voted for it before they put their underwear on in the morning.
However, you try to actually do something positive for your own people, and NOW, they are worried about mortgaging our kids future. (Notice the GOP talking point slogan of the week...."Generational Theft")
Got news for the GOP. You guys are stuck in the 90s. Cute bumper sticker slogans don't work anymore. Substance...real substance is what the American people are looking for.
GOP – Soon to be a footnote in history.

I'm tired. Really, really tired of listening to the republicans. Where was all of this financial appitude the last eight years. Now that they have completely knocked the pins out from under a large majority of Americans and been voted out of office and Congress they have suddenly become experts on fiscal matters.

You know, I don't know if President Obama's plans will work, no one knows for sure. But thank God, at least he's out there trying to help us common everyday variety Americans.

The Republicans worried about the people at the top of the food chain, President Obama worries about us folks down here at the bottom.

Ya' really think those fat cats on Wall St. give a hang about us. The only think some of the Rep. could worry about was "breaking the Unions". Why? Don't ask me...we don't make anything here anymore. The only Unions that have any clout are the Teachers, police and firemen...there isn't enough manufacturing here to be concerned about it anymore. Hang a sign out on the East Coast and West Coast: "moved to new facilities, check with China"....

I cannot believe that this piece of trash, conceived in haste and force fed thru what should have been a much longer process is coming to fruition.

How do we, the American people allow this to happen. All I see on these posts are people bashing the republicans and few democrats that have the integrity to stand up for what is right. By obama's own figures, it is going to take 223,000.00 to generate one job. Where is the logic in that.

America had better wake up. If not, look for new rulers coming soon, most likely from communist China, or Iran.

Reading a 1000 page bill is silly , whether it's a Republican controlled congress or a democrat congress. (where they had michael moore using a megaphone preaching one of the bills. )

The only thing I see of this bil., it was a bipartisan bill. Not that the bill was voted on by bipartisan, but the bill itself had several compromises.

    OBAMA is a GENIUS.

He NEEDS us to fight each other. HE FEEDS IT.

He knows its poison for our country.

He could give a speech any time he wants and tells ALL OF US to stop the bickering.

He has more than the ability to convince us all but HE NEEDS THE DIVISION.

Its an example of a new politician doing an OLD political trick.

(the emperors of Rome used it)

YOU ARE ALL fighting each other but not LOOKING AT HIM.

He has made you whipping boys of each other.

    I am SO IMPRESSED.

    HE IS BRILLIANT

I sincerely hope the republican congressmen who voted against it truly stick up for their ideals and refuse any stimulus spending in their districts. They have made it abundantly clear that they are opposed to it, so they should show the true depth of their committment to party first and refuse it. They repeatedly cite that their constituencies are against it, so they shoud urge the citizens of their districts to retuen any funds the receive as well. That would show the world!

    @Necie
We all have compasion for the people who are hurting there are different ways to help instead of throwing billions and billions of tax dollars of Democrat pet projects. Your attack is the typical worn out charge about anybody who won't sign on with the liberal Democrats. Dismiss them as being mean and uncaring.

I suggest you take a deep breath and relax, your party won and so go the spoils. All I ask is that they slow down and let everyone see what is exactly in this bill and will it really do what everyone wants it to do. I suspect that they rammed it through so we can't see everything thats in it. Thats not what Obama campaigned on and I think it will come back to bite both him and the dems in congress.
