House approves stimulus package with no GOP votes

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The House of Representatives on Friday approved the $787 billion economic stimulus bill by a vote of 246-183.

Seven Democrats joined a unified Republican caucus in opposing the measure. The Senate is expected to hold a final vote on the stimulus package Friday evening.

Two weeks ago, the House approved an earlier version of the plan 244-188, with 177 Republicans and 11 Democrats voting against the measure.

    So?

Obama seems to be avoiding Washington while he continues his campaign style obfuscating sales talk!

The Market knows this obscene Pelosi pet project spending spree Obama has owned won't be successful! And it certainly won't help the democrats in 2010 and 2012!

Too bad wisdom is not one of Obama's gifts!

And one last thing...you know, sometimes in life we just don't understand. Like the crash yesterday and so many unfortunate things going on with the world. But do you know what's the secret about life?? Exactly, no one knows and that's how we want it...

God Bless and thank you to the seven Democrats who used their good judgement and sense of obligation to all Americans in voting against this package which will burden our children and their children for decades to come. May the good people of Maine and Pennsylvania vote out of office any GOP Senator who votes on this made in heck bill tonight. Let's not make our children economically subserviant to mainland China in future years!

OMG! ...I can't wait to get the extra $13 in my weekly paycheck. I am going to rush right out and buy some bathroom tissue – maybe that will stimulate the economy! These washington zipper heads just don't get it. Anyone with more than an 8th grade education knows that the only short term fix to this economic problem is to get lots of money into the hands of the consumer FAST....(news flash: the american consumer is about 70% of the country's economic engine). I guess they thought it was more important to PAY OFF their special interest groups – gag me with a spoon!!!

See, seven Democrats defected on this bill and the Democratic Party isn't making fools of themselves the way the Republican Party did over three GOP senators who defected last week.

it's only the beginning.... the pigs on the roaster and the dems are having the biggest bbq ever! and we ALL get to pay the bill. a win may be great for obama but it's ultimately going to be a loss for America...

Why do Republicans even bother to show up. Might as well play a recording saying we don't spend money because it all cost too much. How about coming up with an original idea instead of spouting the same tired rhetoric. Investment in the future is a good thing. If we don't start paying for it now our kids we have a bigger price tag to clean up the mess we have made for them.

The GOP calling the stimulus plan "generational theft" is hypocrisy at its worst. After the past eight years of huge tax cuts for the wealthy and an unnecessary trillion dollar war in Iraq to be paid by future generations, how can they possibly say this with a straight face?

Eleven democrats voted aginst bill and they are not being threated by their leadership or some PAC. Shocking!!!.

Again, Repuublicans fiddle while the country waits for action. If Bill Clinton can be impeached for an affair with a willing adult, why can't Boehner, Mitchell and the rest of the gang be punished for working againt the interest of the country? I thanks tht should be close to treason. These boneheads are determined to inflict as much damage as possible insuring that the stimulus fails, how low down can you get! Another reason why Americans should do for themselves.

Before everyone starts whining about the lack of republican support, think of how this helps the democrats. They can claim all of the credit when this bill is the wild success they're so sure it's going to be. However, if it fails... who am I kidding, they'll still blame the republicans.

Since everything is going to be to big for the Republicans to handle, maybe they should just sit down and shut up. Worthless and so ready to see America fail and fall. See what happens to the Repukes in 2010 and 2012.

Typical radical religious right wing politics as usual, the belief that if they cannot get EVERYTHING they want they will not support ANYTHING. They rubber stamped EVERYTHING bush sent them and, so far, have opposed ANYTHING from President Obama's desk. No problem when the economy starts to turn around their obstructionism of this measure will be remembered. the "trickle down lie does not work! Tax cuts for the rich ONLY help the rich! remember, while making RECORD PROFITS the OIL COMPANIES CUT JOBS!!!

    246-183 vs. 244-188

Thats only 2 new votes in favor and 5 less votes opposed. I want to know who lost their nerve to oppose it and who jumped on the band wagon?

Any ideas CNN?... Some investigational reporting would be useful right now.
