House approves stimulus package with no GOP votes

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The House of Representatives on Friday approved the $787 billion economic stimulus bill by a vote of 246-183.

Seven Democrats joined a unified Republican caucus in opposing the measure. The Senate is expected to hold a final vote on the stimulus package Friday evening.

Two weeks ago, the House approved an earlier version of the plan 244-188, with 177 Republicans and 11 Democrats voting against the measure.

Thanks to all the Dems and Reps who voted no to the expansion of government. The actual spending for jobs won't be seen for at least another 9 months and the impact will be minimal.
American people must wake up and realize that this is a global event and not limited to the USA.
When you or I have a shortfall of cash we do with out and tighten our belts.
But congress would rather spend hiding behind wealth envy ploys and scare tactics. But hey, I will get my refund ...its just that I will have to give 2 back for every buck I get...yea stimulus bill my ...well you get the picture.

Welcome to partisan politics in Obama's bipartisan world!! Not gonna happen. These are not democrats that they would bend over backwords to vote for tax cuts, illegal wars, torture, and what not. These are republicans who know how to become a loyal opposition. Oppose everything!

Your best best 2010, so that u get a full-proof senate and house. But knowing the democrats, they would screw things up royally before that.

Isn't it obvious yet? The GOP had declared war on President Obama. They don't care about reduced spending, (as obvious with how much they were willing to pump into iraq) Their only concern in making sure Obama fails and in turn this country. Only then might they have a chance in 2012.

Obama is going to accomplish a lot in the next 4 years and I guarantee you will see the majority of the GOP trying to stop him every step of the way. And each time, like this, they will have no valid reason except trying to damage this presidents' popularity.

I see that republicans are are once again trying to mislead people with false information. I've seen several people on these threads peddling the lie that the American people don't want the stimulus package. Well, if they'd actually done their homework instead of just repeating repub/limbaugh lies they'd know that it started out with people being evenly divided on the subject (approx 39% – 39% for & against), then went to about 51% supporting the President's plan. The latest polls show the support for the plan at nearly 60%.

It's time for thr Repubs to realize that, no matter how hard they try, we're not going to let them destroy our country with their lies & purposeful ignorance.

Is there any way that we, the American people, could buy all the "unified" republicans a one way ticket to Mongolia or some other far away place (sorry, Mongolia) before they finish their determined and obsessive effort to drive the country into the ground?

Kelly, we are getting out the way. Dems own this pig of a bill and will suffer the consequences in 2010. They have the majority and don't need the repubs. This is how the gove works.

With a few hours to read through the 1000+ pages, congress did not have enought time to read this thing.

All the kool-aid drinkers who support this do not understand the bill or basic economics. This thing will fail and we will get inflation in a couple of years.

The good news is that Pelosi gets to make her plane for her 8 day trip to Europe. Too bad it isn't a one way ticket, but the next week will be more enjoyable for me. The question is whether she is off-setting the carbon footprint for her trip? I bet no because talk is cheap and so is she.

Seven(7) democrats? I don't think it is an opposition to the $787 billion bill itself but that alot was taken out of it. As for the republicans it is the non-inclusive approach the democrats have taken. 7 Democrats voted strictly on party line. Like everything else, 7 votes is a camouflage. The deck of deception is a reality and building by the day. My hunch it will come to an end because it is no denying that it has insulted some people.

    Gene:

if history teaches us anything, then there is one truth about American voters; they have very short-term memories. So, no, the republican party won't become irrelevant. There are millions of people who would blindly vote republican in the next election, even though its the democrats who put food on their tables and helped them find jobs. At the end of the day, the bible-thumpers and self-proclaimed moral authorities would successfully turn around grateful and prosperious Americans into mindless drones.

And Obama shouldn't expect much help from the GOP in resolving the country's economic crisis. Not as long as they're listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

How soon we forget. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. i'm sure those bashing Republicans are the same ones who bashed them for voting against TARP. Well we all saw how well TARP worked out. The Dems rammed it throug, but didn't put any safeguards or accountability in place, and the result was bomuses for bank CEO's. Now them Dems rush a bad bill through again. Yes, we need to do something, but not just anything. Read all the crap in this bill. At least half generates no jobs at all. If we want to create jobs, appropriate money to hunt down and deport the 12 million illegals in this country. Make E-Verify mandatory for all jobs, and stop legal immigration until the crisis is over.

Are you kidding me?? It was admitted that none of these house members had the opportunity to read it before the vote. ANYBODY who is ok with that is a complete loon.

The republicans were absolutely correct in voting against this and the dems have nobody to point the finger at when this fails.

Well, less than 1 month into office and Obama has decided to go back on the promise to rid Washington of lobbyist, and I bet he will sign this bill that nobody but a select few has really read. Where's the 5 days wait? How many lobbists are employed now by Obama? Where is the accountability? No one knows how many jobs are going to be created much less SAVED? How do you measure that one?

How can you have accountability when no one knows what they are accountable for? No one has had time to read that monstrocity of a thing they call Stimulas..

I guess I will get a bang for my buck by the high speed rail system between Las Vegas and LA.. or the couple of Billion to ACORN... HEY, what you going to do with the $13.00 your going to get...

This isn't going to create big government, but a HUGE government... You know, I think it was Daniel Webster (?) that said, a Democracy where the people realize they can vote themselves money from the treasury will fail.

REMEBER: The more Government gives.. The more personal Freedom they require...

    Kelly,

If you actually look at what the republicans are doing, they are trying to lead by proposing alternatives. Too bad democrats are so thrilled with their new power they are going create jobs only through their pet projects. The jobs will help those people, but won't stimulate the economy. How could they think it was going to work when most of them haven't read the bill. Nothing like a little blind faith in Pelosi-Reid. That's what I call transparent leadership from the democrats. Man, look how different things are now the democrats are in office.

I wish ALL of you who are glad that your congressperson voted against the bill will say publicly that you DO NOT want any of this pork money to be used in your district or even your state as it will not create jobs. This will ensure that those who are really in need will get more than enough to create jobs in their locales and jumpstart the economy. We have had enough of your foolish posturing as Rome burns!

You know what? I don't give a rat's grey patoot what the GOP says about this or anything else anymore. They've blown it...more and more people are going deaf to their rhetoric instead of bothering to engage with them. It's over. There will now be 4 years of us ramming everything we can down their throats and up their...oh wait, can't go that direction...they're heads are in the way.
