The White House released an excerpt from President Obama's message on community service, which will air during the NBA All-Stars game Sunday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama - fresh off a political win in Washington after Congress passed his economic stimulus bill - will take his game to another set of constituents: basketball fans.

On Sunday, a pre-taped message from the president in which he promotes community service will air during the NBA All-Stars game in Phoenix, Arizona. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. EST and will air on TNT.

TNT is owned by CNN's parent company Turner Broadcasting System.

Watch an excerpt of Obama's message

"In this time of so much need in our communities and across our country, we are blessed with endless ways to restore hope and opportunity in places that yearn for both," Obama will say according to excerpts released by the White House Saturday.

Obama's plea: "Prepare a care package for a soldier. Read to a child. Or fix up a local basketball court so the next generation can play and grow. ... Log on to USAService.org to find or create a project near you, then gather some friends and lace 'em up."

Good call, Mr. President! Everyone should pitch in to help each other – enough of this every man for himself garbage. Its what got us here in the first place.

Dr Mr. "Last Patriot" – Patriots need no money to do good for their country. Obama didn't bankrupt us, greedy investment firms and loan offices did, along with years of deficit spending by all parties involved. If you want to go down with the ship, feel free, but if you didn't help be part of the solution, don't complain about the problem.

OH. I totally agree, like the bailout given to Bank of America. Bank of America employs lots of wonderful India people for the customer service online division. Us taxpayers are helping to provide jobs for all of those wonderful Indian folks over there, though our American tax dollars bailout.

Isn't it wonderful to know how your tax dollars help.

For some of the naysers out there, wouldn't it be great if you needed help and someone came to help and DID NOT WANT TO GET PAID!! That is what is wrong with our nation, too many people want to be paid for everything they do, and they do not want to help someone or a community in need. It is time we all stepped up!!

Ok Obama, you're gonna tax me, over regulate me, bankrupt the country, bankrupt the next two generations, and now you want me to work for free? Is this guy crazy or what?

you are a farse..u sound more like an unpatriot rather than the last but let us all hope that if you are the last...thanks goodness...maybe ur time will be short and u can b gone soon. u really sound like an idiot and a self serving idiot. May God soon put u out of ur misery. Sounds like what u r saying President Obama will do – tax me – bet u have not paid actual taxes in years or u lie. Bankrupt the country – the Bushies and Roves did that already. Bankrupt the next two generations – thank Bush also for that. Work for free – it is actually called 'Giving' or 'Helping', something you apparently have no clue of. Go away – u r just an annoying gnat..God please don't let me grow up to be USELESS.

The Last Patriot – do you not already pay taxes, exist in a society that has regulations, and that's deeply in dept? That's pretty much the government Bush handed over. He did nothing to reduce regulation, taxes are actually going down with Obama, and the debt was already there. Get a grip. And maybe look to take a step toward being a better, less selfish person.

    To the last "patriot"

Would you be satisfied if there were billions of dollars set aside to invade another country, or stay in Iraq? Because if the Republicans had their way, we would be shoveling billions of dollars into the Iraq war.

I was online with Bank of America this morning. I asked the man , "Seth", who I was talking online with, if He was located in India. He said "yes".

I don't think bailouts should be give to company's that do employ US citizens, for all their positions.

"The challenges we face as a nation are now more numerous and difficult but I have no doubt that we can meet them.

And in a state as broad and diverse in background and belief as any in our nation, I have found a spirit of unity and purpose that can steer us through the most troubled waters.

I ask for your support, your prayers, and for us to 'confidently hope that all will yet be well,'" Obama wrote.

@The Last Patriot...now you want me to work for free?" Volunteering is not working for free. It's giving something back to the community while helping those less fortunate than you are. You are a good example of what's wrong with this country. It's all about me, me, me anymore. I've volunteered for most of my life and it's come back to me time and time again.

Our president is attempting to revive the notion that we have an obligation within the communities where we live to become stakeholders in those communities by NOT relying on the government for everything. When the people of a community get involved, good things wll come of it because now they have a vested interest in seeing ther communities develp into the kind of places where people will want to live, locate businesses, and participate in community activities. This will spur local community economies through home sales and the influx of community busineses such as restaurants, shops, etc, and recreational facilities. What our president – whether you are a supporter or not – is telling us is that we as Americans have a choice: We can either be part of the solution, or, we can continue to be part of the problem. It is time for Americans to take back their communities and invest in them through personal involvement. If you are sitting on the sidelines complaining, then you are part of the problem.

Instead of acting people outside Washington maybe our President should start cleaning up Washington first. Then I might feel more inclined to help with their causes. I have been contributing to charitable causes as long as I've been working. I will do more when the politicians do more. Our representatives (if you can call them that) need to be on the same health care, money scale as the rest of us. I didn't get a raise this year, like most Americans, but Congress always gets a raise, it's just called a cost of living increase. Stop taking our money and help to fix the country by reducing waste in Washington. Why would the Senators scream at CEO's for taking private jets when they did the same to get one vote in last night for the spending package. I think Washington needs to wake up, middle American is getting disgusted very quickly, and that goes for both parties.

people- many of people are so overworked that they do not have enough time to sleep. They work so much to be able to afford to live.
We need to balance our way of living, working, caring, and resting. Yes, everyone needs to rest sometimes. It seems that there is no time for anything.

The message is good. But with the government creating hyperinflation which may come later this year. Who will have time to do any of this? They just gave all of the taxpayer money to the banks, while banks are raising everyone's interest rates. A lot of people will be working two jobs to stay afloat for awhile, that is if they can find the jobs. But yes, good message. I hope it does bring the good people out into the communities.

  23. Look at White Trash

"Griff" and "Last Patriot" give the rest of us white people a bad image. One can't spell properly, and the other's too resentful of positive attitudes to pay taxes, obey laws, or donate personal service to a good cause. These ignorant attitudes come from resentful white trash.

To "Last" – you are NO Patriot. A Patriot is someone who DOES something for his/her country. You just sit there and spew hatred and nonsense. Get up off your a$$ and help a neighbor, visit a shut-in, volunteer to raise money for your local PTO – ANYTHING except being a boil on humanity.
