WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama - fresh off a political win in Washington after Congress passed his economic stimulus bill - will take his game to another set of constituents: basketball fans.

On Sunday, a pre-taped message from the president in which he promotes community service will air during the NBA All-Stars game in Phoenix, Arizona. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. EST and will air on TNT.

TNT is owned by CNN's parent company Turner Broadcasting System.

Watch an excerpt of Obama's message

"In this time of so much need in our communities and across our country, we are blessed with endless ways to restore hope and opportunity in places that yearn for both," Obama will say according to excerpts released by the White House Saturday.

Obama's plea: "Prepare a care package for a soldier. Read to a child. Or fix up a local basketball court so the next generation can play and grow. ... Log on to USAService.org to find or create a project near you, then gather some friends and lace 'em up."

This is our guy. Just wait and see what a smart person with sensitivity can do. This is only the beginning of cleaning up after 8 years of disastrous economic policies and no leadership. It will take a while but we will get there. Go President Obama.

The Last Patriot obviously isn't. Patriotism is asking not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country. Your taxes buy civilization and better schools and healthcare in America. We are all in it together here. LOVE your fellow man-thats all we need to do.

    To "The Last Patriot"

You complain about taxes, would you prefer no taxes? Because I am fairly sure that the only way that would ever happen would be if the military, the police, the entire government, and everything it funded were completely dissolved.

You complain about over regulation, would you prefer no regulation? Because if you have been watching the news, you would have noticed that people have been dying from contaminated peanut butter that was not being regulated quite enough. Or you may have noticed that the reason everything is crashing on Wall Street is that no one regulated them, so they were allowed to engage in increadibly risky business practices that eventually caught up with them.

Bankrupt the country? I believe before the Republicans took control in 2000 we have balanced the budget. It was the Republicans who sliced the taxes for the rich while their spending soared that bankrupted the country. We have to stop the bleeding first with measures like this stimulus bill before we can worry about getting back to a balanced budget again.

Work for free? I believe it's commonly referred to as volunteering and is generally seen as a charitable act of good will. Now I can understand if your reasoning is simply that you're selfish enough to refuse to help anyone besides yourself; no one is going to force you to be a kind person. However, I am pretty sure most people know that at some point in their life, someone else has helped them, and it certainly can't hurt to return the favor.

Yeah..and if you don't volunteer he is going to force you to help and his Marxist brigade.

  12. Barack wins and the Country loses

It is interesting how someone with only 52.2% of the vote, thinks he has a Mandate to structurally change America into a country that resembles more like Russia that it does America.

Sad Sad day in America. All you idiots that were fooled into thinking this guy was a moderate, I hope he takes the biggest cut of your paychecks in a couple of years first, with huge increases in tax rates to pay your Messiah Marxist.

You know he has already said he wants a domestic military force equal and size and equally funded as our military. This is probably the first step toward that. You Obamist think you voted for your Messiah when in fact you have installed a Robert Mugabe.

Yes We Can – how dare you compare Lincoln to this fool. Lincoln was not a racist, was not a Marxist, was not a cocaine user, never appointed a tax evader to his cabinet, never had a minister to cursed America, never befriended terrorists. Obama is a foul individual so do not tear down our icons just to promote a pig in a poke.

He is selling himself, the idol or icon, for the greater good. He knows people love him and he uses this love to promote positive things, things that need to happen or be done. He does this promotion without a raised finger, without religion, without patriotism, just by the sheer force of his personality. If he can keep this up til he leaves office he well be – at least – one of the great inspirerers of our nation. And God knows we need some of these right now...

the last patriot: im sorry making a care package for a soldier is too much work.

good job mr president. this does send a message.....people dont want bigger government but arent willing to get off their butts and come together in this time of need. but they sure were ready to bomb people on september 11th but yet none of them sent family to war. they sat comfortably on the sidelines while our troops fought for them.

    @The Last Patriot:
You're not a patriot at all. You are what is wrong with our country. Self-absorbed, small-minded, over-privileged and short-sighted.

    February 14, 2009 05:38 pm at 5:38 pm |
  25. Really?

The Last Patriot, first off, the problem did not start yesterday and it surely did not start with Obama! It started over 8 years ago with a war. It gradually grew and went out of control. Now all those curses of all the innocent people that were killed or tortured are coming to bite us! You think we were going to get away scot-free after doing all these abhorrent things? And you don't become a patriot if you call yourself one! You need to prove it, give yourself in service to your country. After all isn't that what Obama is asking here? If you are such a patriot, then this should appeal to you!
