Aide: Scrutiny from NBA greats would make Obama 'nervous'

There are very few days that I don’t see, at some point in the day, the President either handling or dribbling a basketball, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday.

There are very few days that I don’t see, at some point in the day, the President either handling or dribbling a basketball, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday.

(CNN) - Basketball is one of President Barack Obama’s primary stress relievers, according to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. In fact, the President plans to spend some time on the court this weekend with friends in Chicago, Gibbs said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.

Basketball “is a big part of his life,’ Gibbs told Chief National Correspondent John King.

“There are very few days that I don’t see, at some point in the day, the President either handling or dribbling a basketball.”

“It helps him get some exercise and relieve some stress. For a little bit of time, he can think about something different,” added Gibbs.

Armed with footage of Obama playing hoops, Chief National Correspondent John King asked some NBA greats to put the President’s game under a microscope.

The thought of several NBA legends deconstructing his skills on the hardwood is enough to make the new Commander-in-Chief a bit nervous, Gibbs said Sunday.

“I can only imagine that if I were to call him now, he’d be a little nervous that people like Bill Russell were going to critique his game,” Gibbs told King. “That’s pretty serious.”

Ken in NC: "Well at least he is not...shooting people. "

You did read about the Predator airstrikes in Afghanistan since he became commander in cheif, right?

Actually he is shooting people right now. And he is sending more troops there soon to die and kill.

Grow up and open your eyes. The DemoRepubliCraticanss have lied to you.

CNN – you are playing a big role along with other MSM in trying to change this beautiful country to some socialist style regime. Keep up the bad work.

    To Joe:

As a white history teacher let me tell you that just about every chapter in every American history book devotes itself to white history. But maybe you are right and we should have a special month about "white" history. What what such a month of history consist of? For starters we could talk about how white people treated Native Americans/Indians, we could discuss how white Americans not only introduced slavery to North America but how white Americans used religion to justify slavery, we could talk about how white Americans formed the Ku Klux Klan during Reconstruction to deny black Americans their rights as U.S. citizens, and we could talk about how white Americans treated Asian Americans both in the 19th century and during World War II. As another famous white American once said, "Bring it on" and let's shine the light on "white" history.

As an American history teacher I don't celebrate "Black History Month" in February because the black experience and contributions by African Americans to our country can not be limited to just one month. African Americans have been contributing to our history since the first African slave set foot in Virginia in 1620 and when we teach American history in every month of the year, the contributions and suffering of African Americans must also be covered.

Republicans did not support the Bush stimulus either. Why should they support Obama's? They go against what the GOP believes. Face it. Republicans want smaller government, not free condoms or bigger welfare. Do we support schools? Sure. Military? of course. Social security? Yes, to an extent.

I know what makes Obama nervous. The fact that at first this bill is going to turn the markets, but once the dollar de-values and we rack up more debt in a few months than what Iraq and Afganistan did in several years and we are with our back to the walls, that we might realize that he is not a messiah.

    Then what...Pitty.

Joe, you're a racist fool. *Every* month is White history month. To think there's something wrong with setting aside a month - the shortest one, BTW - to recognize the contributions of an American subculture that has been so long neglected is an apostasy. Grow up.

The final test for a right wing nut is to be able to use the words,'pork,' 'liberal' and 'socialism' in the same sentence. If you can do that, you are a black belt in the GOP (Gutless Obstructionist Party)

Here's one for the fun of it. The only difference Bill will find is the title HIS AIRNESS does not belong to his truly in any way or form. They are totally different personalities when it comes to intelligence and skill. Wether they both lefties I'm not sure. But one thing is for sure , His Airness Michael Jordan is more handsome than Bo. I still remember vividly that interview with Bill Russels, on his thoughts about the basketball great. So far its been around the rim and out come crunch time. Good luck Mr President.

For a country with a critical financial crisis I am amazed that the president can be spending my money so freely his trips for townhall meeting. Now he plan to fly to chicago for basketball. How much is it costing taxpayers at each city for securty and public relations not to mention the flight on Air Force One? My feeling is he needs to spend time in Washington working.

I am so tired of people berating CNN when every single story on the ticker isn't hard news. Human interest reporting is absolutely legitimate. And people who are secure about their intelligence and gravitas don't demand that absolutely everything has to be Serious and Important.

Don't worry, Mr. President. Just keep playing your game. 😉

    Unbelievable, the haters sometimes.

Go to the policy pages if you want to read something serious, crybabies!

Being fit is good for the brain, you know. It helps him resist tiredness.

I'd rather have him play basketball than choking on a pretzel while watching TV. A good role model, and we don't have too many.

Seeing him involved in sports may get some fatsos off their butts and the ER table as well. Might end up reducing Medicare costs!

There should be some honours sports/school scholarships for kids, sponsored byt the President!

"White" History Month is the month that is not Black History Month, i.e., the other eleven months...If you had half a brain, you'd know that.

Thank you for your racist remarks. Why don't you go celebrate your white terrorist holiday – Columbus Day.

"It does not matter… This Guy has had to much Arogance-Egotism-
Flatter Himself… He is just a Big-Head. I can do what I wan't with "YOUR" Cash. I am the President!!!"

You must be one of those arrogant, egotistical, self-serving Republicans who along with "W" totally SCREWED this country up! Ittruly amazes me how you all can still even talk about "spending" limits when you all have given every other country (Iraq) billions and billions of ollars without batting an eye! Oh for the love of God, do you all have no shame "Mr Fiscally Responsible Republican"

The AUDACITY that your party wrote "W" a blank check for the war, Halliburton with the no bid contracts, Black Water with the corrupt and vile "commando" actions, Wall Street and Bank (Remember Savings and Loan scandal back in the 80-90 Bush was involved there too) scandals and exorbitant bonuses, and the list goes on and on. You all elected a dumb-ass President from here in Texas that claims to be "All American" but darted any "real service", couldn't make higher than a C in anything including how to get out of a paper bag created the worst debt in history etc. How do you bigots sleep at night! PLEASSSEE just go hide under a rock like you all have been for the last eight years!!
