Sources: Obama to sign stimulus Tuesday in Denver

President Obama will sign the economic stimulus bill Tuesday in Denver, Colorado, two officials said Saturday.
President Obama will sign the economic stimulus bill Tuesday in Denver, Colorado, two officials said Saturday.

(CNN) - President Obama will sign the economic stimulus bill Tuesday in Denver, Colorado, two senior administration officials confirm to CNN.

Both officials cited a desire to get out of Washington - to go, in the words of one official, “out west in an area hit hard economically, away from the politics of Washington.”

The other official described Denver as “a place that will see the benefits of the bill in hiring workers.”

Obama traveled to areas hit hard by the economic downturn last week, holding town hall meetings in Elkhart, Indiana and Fort Myers, Florida. He met with workers at a Caterpillar plant in Peoria, Illinois on Thursday, after the company announced 22,000 layoffs.

Now that the Democrats are in power we have a new party, its called the GRAND OBSTRUCTIONIST PARTY. Their only mode of existence is to be naysayers. As for Gregg, I wrote last week he was a coward, and true to his spots, the leapord cannot change its spot. We see the republicans for what they truly are , they are NOT team players, except when they are filling the pockets of big business with huge tax breaks.

I would like to see all the Governors,Congress members, Senators who are so shocked and against this stimulus plan to REFUSE any of the money for their states. Such as Cantor, Boehner, Pawlenty,Stanford, McCain,Kyl and the list goes on with Republican members that voted no. In my opinion Boehner is not a very good actor, he looked pretty phony on tv expressing his dislike on this package.

Has anyone bothered to ask the question... What if this doesn't work? What will the President do next to "fix" the Economy? Maybe they can write another Trillion dollar Stimulus...

This isn't just America that is hurting right now either. All across the World, Countries are hurting due to this downturn. We didn't even cause this thing, which came from Europe to begin with, but we are the ones who have to fix it right?

So, Why didn't our Government bother researching our History? You can't throw more money at a failing Economy and expect it to turn around. It has NEVER happened before when our country faced a Recession or Depression and there's almost no chance of this stimulus will do anything but grow the Government. They will control more private businesses and have more say over everyone's individual rights because of this. Just read the Healthcare stuff where everyone's Private info will become Public knowledge, Online.

Has anyone in the House or Senate even READ the Entire Bill? This thing is 1000+ pages and from everything I have read so far sound like cr@p that won't do anything good for the American Worker. $400 Single/$800 couple... down from $500/$1000. Please, explain to me how a whole 13 dollars more a paycheck is going to help someone get out of debt? And why does all this only start in JUNE??? 4 months off with countless thousands who may lose their jobs between now and then.

Did, any of you Bloggers claiming this thing is greatest thing ever...the cure for the economy read this thing? This is NOT what our Country needs right now. This is the path down the wrong road in which this Country was NOT created for. Our Founding Fathers must be rolling over in their graves knowing what is about to happen.

2009, the Collapse of America as we know it.

So the Democrats broke their promise to allow a 48 hour review period before voting took place. They said there was no time for that, the urgency was too great.

Now, the bill sits on Obama's desk while he and the wife holiday in Chicago. Oh, and Pelosi, she had a junket to Italy she couldn't postpone. Now we hear that Obama will get around to signing the bill next Tuesday while on a junket of his own to……..Denver?

What a bunch of lying, conniving, hypocrites. Truly despicable people.

You Go Obama!!! Thank you for doing something for our country!!! The majority of you on here are concerned about how much it is going to cost the taxpayer? WHAT ABOUT IRAQ/WAR ON TERROR/AFGANISTAN/BUSH'S STIMULUS CHECKS? DIDN'T HEAR YOU COMPLAIN THEN!!! GET LIVES PEOPLE. Think about this how much has the last 8 years cost you??? MCCain would have proposed something similar to this anyway.

Once again, how does one explain the the right wing nuts who think Iraq had WMD's and Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11, that the vast majority of economists from both parties felt the stimulus was necessary?

'Pork' is an emotional word, but is really Rush's nickname.

Too bad the Repugs hate Obama more than they love America!

They could have redeemed themselves after giving so much to the wealthy under Bush, by supporting the stimulus bill. But no... they wanted to give the rich even more tax cuts!

You watch – when this works they will find a way to claim credit for it. Or they will say that if THEIR tax breaks to the wealthy was adopted, even more jobs would have been created.

They never had a single good idea under Bush...why would Obama think that they would have one now???

If you loved the constitution so much, maybe you better learn to spell it before you yell it! Now sit back & take a deep breath. & quit thinking what you hear on AM talk radio is true. This president is no more perverted than any others. If that doesn't work, go to the drug store & buy yourself some diapers & box of tissues.

Do you think Obama realizes his daughters children are going to be paying for this??And if he does know ,and doesn't care what kind of a father and grandfather he is,why do we want him as our President.

    @ Chris –
Sorry – it was your hero George Bush who took us to hell in a hand basket... you're just too dumb and too stubborn to admit it.

The Democrats gave us 8 years of unprecedented prosperity under Clinton, AND they balanced the budget. You people came in and spent it all, AND almost bankrupted the nation, to boot.

So shut up and go learn to spell so your ignorance wouldn't be so obvious to the world! We had 8 years of that crap...and we have had enough!

God bless President Obama, and God bless the USA!

Yup. He's going to put the illegals back to work while he starves the elderly and disabled of our own country. The cut off amount for food stamps needs to be elevated and energy companies need to be reined in. The cost of oil is down but my power company has had three increases since Sept. and already my bill has doubled even though I use less energy. I can't afford to have lights and eat too.

This is interesting. This guy did not give congressmen any time to read the bill because he wanted it on his desk by Monday on President's day to sign it. Now h wants to keep it for Tuesday to sign it in Denver. I think he is still in campaign mood. He has no experience whatsoever. ON THE JOB TRAINING? Of course it is.We are in for miserable times ahead.

The republicans are always pro-military–except whe the people who serve come home. If their idea of democratic pork is building a better VA system then I pray Obama and dems get everything they want and ignore the republicans entirely-Of course the kids always get hurt too–building better VA hospitals-How does that not create jobs-construction workers who can no longer build homes can build hospitals and schools and then people have to work in them. The republicans now say they didn't get time to read the stimulus bill–okay–then how do you know it won't work? seems like they are determined to be sure their rich buddies get the break even though 450 economists including 10 noble laureates told Bush in 2003 that if he did his tax cuts we would be where we are today-He ignored them–Lastly funny how the republicans keep harping on our childrens debt forgetting that we they already have a huge debt forom their failed tax cuts-which are spending in disguise-The wealthy get the breaks and we pay higher sales and gas tax-HMMMm.

You dummies don't realize everyone has had a reasonable time to read the stimulus...

Enough time for Republicans to take out what they didn't want....

Enough time that Lou Dobbs had a "Lou's Line Item Veto" segment for over a week on his show.

The stimulus is needed asap so stop hating and listening to folks on fox and the radio!

What's wrong with socialism? It's worked to make many allies of America great. Maybe we should try success instead of conservative faliure policy of so called "free market" economy. America must grow out of its infant tirades and embrace scusess and Mr. Obama is leading us in the right direction. I am a small business owner and I approve of socialism!

All of you, who are blatantly critical of this stimulus plan shock me with your ignorance and stupidity. It's not the stimulus that actually cost the tax payer money. It's the embezzlement of Bank funds from wall street with Mortgage accounting CDO's that cost the tax payer. These corrupt tactics emptied our american banking system during an expensive time of war. Now, we must replace the money that was fraudulently removed from our banking system in the first place! This is what could rob our children and grandchildren of their dreams. not the stimulus package itself! Wall Street needs to Internationally replace the money they have stolen...and the stimulus package is just the beginning. Wake up people !!! And stop your lying !!!

It seems in reading these comments and in listening to some Congressional republicans that people don't understand what a stimulus plan is.

When people and businesses aren't spending money (like now), government steps in and does it in their place. It is a time-honored tool, well understood and supported by most economists, to push a faltering economy back into proper functioning. It's fine to disagree about the details and what spending will be the most effective, but ANY spending on actual, physical goods, or on wages that people will SPEND works as stimulus. It takes time, but it is really the only choice.

Giving money in the form of tax cuts to people who already have income doesn't work. They tend to save the money rather than spend it. Money into savings does not equal money into the economy.

Please know what you are talking about when you comment. Vitriol and foolish nonsense doesn't convince anyone.

The people who are blindly following this Administration and its Congress without question on this Stimulus Bill are no different or any less lame (with SHAME!) than those who blindly followed the Bush Administration into Iraq.
    *****shock and awe*******
    Remember?

These legislators were forced to vote on a 1000 plus page $800 billion dollar spending gig they weren't given but 24 hours to read, digest, and agee/disagree with!

Are you kidding? This is better than half truth explanations to justify bombs dropped across the Globe?

Why aren't there more people outraged by this?

Hey Chris, the stimulus bill actually gives money to education and considering your inarticulate text, spelling mistakes and incoherent sentences you would actually benefit by it ... if it was not too late.

I LIKE that he travels around and stays in touch with the people. Its the people in this country that need to be involved and not just sit back and complain about the government. He is trying to keep people engaged in our process. The majority elected him. DO YOU WANT BUSH BACK? Take a look at our world 8 years later????? Huh thats a no brainer.

The stimulus bill was available to read days and days ago. Rep Jared Polis (D-CO) himself told CNN that he had ample time to read it, then he just read the additions and changes over the few days they were occurring.

What is NOT happening is the media is not showing Polis' interview with CNN, which occurred two days ago right after Rep John Boehner's (R-OH) had his tantrum and threw a copy of this legislation onto the floor, saying "No one, No one" has read it.

Maybe no Republican has read it, but many others did, before the vote.

Don't believe everything you hear on CNN. They wanted you to see this story without doing their research as to when the bill was actually available to Congress–so CNN could have a story in the first place.

For my first point, the spelling and grammar employed in these comments is nothing short of atrocious.

Linda Lu, for your edification, there is no such word as "applausible". In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if many of these opining individuals came from the failing school systems of inner-city America. Folks, do you see what happens when Democrats and teachers unions hold so much sway in urban environments? Can we all say "Detroit"? We are not producing the next generation of William Wordsworth's here. But I digress...
