CNN Radio Political Notebook: The stimulus and Obama

The president's legacy may be defined by the success of the stimulus bill.
The president's legacy may be defined by the success of the stimulus bill.

A development just a third of the way through President Obama’s First Hundred Days may come to define his presidency.

In today’s CNN Radio Political Notebook, CNN's Bob Costantini talks with Professor Julian Zelizer of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, who lays out the stakes Obama faces following the passage of the stimulus plan.

In his commentary for CNN.com, Professor Zelizer wrote, “The huge size of this legislation raises the stakes beyond what many presidents confronted in their Hundred Days.”

Obama, most likely will be our worse president ever, this whole stimulus pork bill is a fiasco. Can you imagine if the Republicans said, "oh shoot, we don't have to read the bill, just let President Bush sign it, it should be good." Yeah, I'm sure everyone would go "no problem it is probably ok".
I also have to say our education system has apparently pumped out the most ignorant Americans ever, based on the people who still believe this empty suit is going to save them.

Oh, so Obama only gets 45 days to undo mess the Republican created in 8 years ?? Give me a break. There should not have to be a stimulus package to begin with! We need some type of stimulus because the Republicans ran this economy into the ground with the Iraq War and tax cuts for the rich. But now they have the nerve to criticize anything that Obama does. Amazing. WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN WHO GOT US INTO THIS! WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN THE BRAVE SOLDIERS WHO DIED IN PRES. BUSH'S WAR OF PERSONAL PREFERENCE!! Keep it up Repbublicans and you won't control the Congress or the White House again until the Obama girls are collecting Social Security!

YOU MAKE SURE YOU RETURN YOUR REBATE CHECK BACK BECAUSE IT WILL DO NOTHING FOR YOU OR YOUR FAMILY. MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO ANY SOLDIER ABOUT THE IRAQ WAR BECAUSE I HAVE AND YOU WILL GET A DIFFERENT OPINION OF THE LAST ADMINISTRATION AND THEY WILL LAY OUT WHO REALLY GAINED FROM TAKING OUR MEN AND WOMEN INTO A WAR WHERE AMERICAN CONTRACTOR HAVE MADE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND WHO HAD INTEREST IN THESE COMPANIES.

Okay here’s the plan, keep it on the down low…
As all of you know, at least those who voted “correctly” in the last election, the Limbaughian flock is having some issues with the direction in which the country is now headed (yes, WE know it’s only been about three weeks). What we do is go down to Crawford and wake Mr. Bush up and have him tell his sheep that EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY. He may very well know that it isn’t, but what the heck, he didn’t care about the country for eight years why start now! Anyway, he tells them it’s okay and they, of course, BELIEVE him. They shut up, stop standing in the way of those trying to fix things, and we get to go to work. Now, you may ask, “any simpleton would be able to see right through this plan.” That’s the beauty of it, simplicity! Mr. Bush told those folks that everything was going to be okay for eight years and they bit, you remember, WMD’s in Iraq, Iraq in bed with the terrorists, we’ll go get ‘em for ya. Mission Accomplished! We’ll be right there NOLA! That peanut butter is safe to eat at lunch today kids!

Remember though, this is a secret plan!

The critics are at it again with all the FAKE arguements about the stimulus/recovery bill.

As a country WE were already failing before President Obama was elected. The problems develped and then played out under Bushes watch. Why are Obama haters denying this FACT?

First of all it's our money in the first place! Secondly what's wrong with making sure our kids have the best working schools and our roads and bridges are in excellent shape. We truly need to invest in ourselves for a change, so we can do our own work, we don't have to source out our jobs because we'll have our own educated citizens that we have invested in and trained. Keep up the good work Obama!! Please help take care of America and it's citizens.

giving everyone $2000 or whatever amount from the government is like giving your adult children money to have them turn around spend it at your house buying groceries from your refrigerator or gas from your car. once that transaction is competed now you have your money back but no gas or groceries. now you have to go buy that stuff again with the original money because you are not making any more just like the government doesn't make money, it borrows money. now your children are out of groceries and gas and money and you are out of money. unless you can borrow more money or print currency, remember you can't earn money, how many cycles of this can the family go through before they are in enormous debt and hungry? what the government is now doing like the adult children in that family borrowing money since the parents can't borrow anymore as well as borrowing money against their own children. If you print money in your basement now the money is worth much less and you have to borrow even more. what all this does is totally devalue the money system. this is what politics is doing to us whether it is Dems or Repubs. Americans must stop using credit and be frugal to stop this cycle. there will be pain but it will be predictable and manageable. if we don't then we will some unprecedented events in our lifetimes.

When are we going to learn that we cannot keep borrowing money? When are we going to learn that everyone must work? When are we going to learn that the Democrats are just as corrupt as the Republicans? When are we going to get a congress that will actually read a bill before voting on it? When are we going to face the facts about our true economic situation? Social Security is a ponzi scheme and we are all going to have to work until we are 70. Everyone must work even people who don't feel like it even jobs that they don't like. We all need to spend less, borrow less and save more. We need to cut spending not increase spending to help the economy. When are we going to learn that although education and healthcare are critically important, they are not free, they are not a right, they are a priviledge. We cannot fix the problem if we cannot admit we have a problem.

Hey Ray Ray. Newsflash The stock market made it most dramatic drop in the last 3 months of the Bush administration. It was dropping before Obama reached the oval office. Obama has yet to reach the idiot decision making and laziness of the Bush. 8 years and no blame given to Bush, compared to 3 weeks for Obamb and the whole world will implode. Amazing.

    @johnrj08:

Can you democrats at least try to use both sides of your brain for once. Infrastructure spending is not what is going to spur the economy. It takes too long to get going and it's temporary. If we must do something it's get money into the hands of people to purchase goods and services which will get the economic wheels turning which will then provide jobs and capital for business expansion which will create more jobs and increase the tax base which will THEN provide revenue to the government for infrastructure.

Obama-mama@judging by your comment the democrats also hate old people as well as southerners, conservatives and women. A whole party of elitists, filled with hate for the common people. No surprise.

How miserable does a person have to be to hope President Obama's presidency fails? Remember the McCain slogan, "Country First". Guess his followers don't understand the concept. And by the way, I listened to Amy Holmes today refer to the former president as President Bush, yet her reference to the current president was as Barack Obama. Amy, he is PRESIDENT OBAMA. You would do well to remember that many of the same ugly comments made about President Obama by your republican collegues are made about you as well..........DON'T FORGET WHO YOU REALLY ARE.

GOD BLESS PRESIDENT OBAMA AS HE MOVES IS FORWARD TOWARD A MORE PROSPEROUS AND CIVIL COUNTRY!!

the perfect President for a bunch of MORON lemmings. This bill was soooooo urgent, but first we must fly to Chicago to fill the wife's pie hole and have a little fun AGAIN. Remember he just was in a luxus joint in Hawaii.

I'm sure you would sign your house away with a contract you have not seen or read. When has America become so stupid? Oh I forgot the schools, it's all by design!

I believe that it is far too early to say that the stimulus bill will define Obama's legacy. Bush left Obama with a world of mess to clean up and the U.S. economy is just one big mess in a pile of hot messes for Obama to stake his legacy on.

I predicted that the stock market would fall 1000 points like a rock if Obama was elected, then it would hover at or above 7500 for several months following the election. That's not a statement for or against the President, just what I perceived would happen in the markets.
I've also predicted improvement in lead economic indicators by third quarter this year. My first predicition was dead on target. It looks like my second was also pretty close to the mark, so let's hope my third will also come about.
