CNN Radio Political Notebook: The stimulus and Obama

The president's legacy may be defined by the success of the stimulus bill.
The president's legacy may be defined by the success of the stimulus bill.

A development just a third of the way through President Obama’s First Hundred Days may come to define his presidency.

In today’s CNN Radio Political Notebook, CNN's Bob Costantini talks with Professor Julian Zelizer of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, who lays out the stakes Obama faces following the passage of the stimulus plan.

In his commentary for CNN.com, Professor Zelizer wrote, “The huge size of this legislation raises the stakes beyond what many presidents confronted in their Hundred Days.”

I didn't read nor hear a negative remark from all you Republican when the Government/Bush was spending Billions of dollars per month to rebuild Iraq. As of today Iraq is not rebuilt – makes a smart person wonder where did the billions of dollars go. As a tax payer I would MUCH rather to see the money at work in this country than some other country.

This is strictly a one-termer. After four years we can say good-bye to his big mouth and ears. Oh, I almost forgot about those gleaming white teeth. Go ahead CNN and subject these comments to moderation. You can't stand for anyone to criticize your beloved choice whether it be deserved or not.

Having had a bad start I would be not surprised at all if he ends with an obamagate scandal.

The stupid market is not a reflection on reality. When W was in power, Wall Street cranked out fake numbers while evevryone was losing their jobs and while the banks were dying in their own greed.

This change in the American financial situation is everybody's problem. It will take all of us to get out from under it. So listen up nay sayers. Stop complaining about the stimulus. Just remember we did the Republican way of "tax Cuts' and it didn't work. Not under Regan or Bush 1 or Bush 2. Howevver, Clinton left office with a surplus and a fair economy. What should you learn from that? That Republicans are going to repeat the same message over and over again, even when they have been proven wrong. It's now time to try something else and if it is only 1/2 better than the Republican "tax Cut' method, we will all be winners. The Republicans have set the bar really low.

    To Gary

Dont worry. I'm sure we'll be absorbed into EU in the future if this trend continues. W and the ELEPHANT congress helped dig a hole so deep, the only way out is to CONTINUE the whole deeper until we hit water and flushes us out of this mess. Only innovations can save us and fuel jobs.... that's the yellow brick road. ...

Mark from NC – Germany went to war against the World because Hitler was mad, Stalin was a fool that thought he could trust in Hitler's word and the English had one of their worst Prime-Minister ever! So it was up to FDR, who either way had managed to get the country back to its feet with a series of actions (New Deal included) that were not perfect, but worked none the less, to back up both England and USSR and send the full force of the USA against the Axis. What happened afterwards was called Cold War, and in the end USSR disappeared and the USA were the only superpower in the World's scenario.
There, here's your much needed History lesson. FDR didn't save 'his' name, he (and the whole US military forces) saved democracy as we know it. FDR was far from perfect, and we know it very well, but that doesn't means that he was what you claim he was...

Obama's spirited onslaught, seeking to emulate Abe can be quite an upheaval task, considering the monumental problems ahead of him. With the GOP determined to thwart him, to laugh at his losses, to mock at his gains, and to hinder his progress at every department of the game, Obama is well-advised to outsmart his adversaries, by his oratorial skills, AND his ability to match them with smart and expedient action plans in order to offer stiff resistance and a sizable counter-weight.

Comrade Chairman Obama – has a slightly ominous ring to it.

When do the book burnings and rounding up of 'undesireables' take place?

Gene: I have to disagree. The war did create jobs..... now that there are no jobs left in the United States people are joining the military. It is the only stable job left.
Bush did a good job of fixing the illegal alien problem, they are going back to Mexico because there are no jobs left here. We may have to jump our fence to get into Mexico to find jobs.
Bush also did a good job fixing the issue with recruitment, when there are no other jobs, join the military.
I do agree that anyone that does not agree with the stimulus package, do not take any of the tax breaks given because of the stimulus package, and don't dare take any of the job created by it. Leave them for the people that believe the package will work.

Did I miss something! Was CNN sold recently? It seems that their articles were written by Fox News. I know the headline of the articles
are written by a bias Republican. Maybe Wolf, and John King, are looking for a change and a bigger salary. If I'm wrong, would someone else please take over the task of making the lead line of an article reflect the content. We don't need a Limbaugh or a Hannlty on CNN also.

Can anyone tell me how Bush lost Billions of dollars?
I heard it on CNN at 3pm.
Something about money set aside to train Iraqi troop-money lost, no one knows were it went. They were also dupped out of millions, money sent to the wrong person. Isn't this tax payer money?

Most of the bill is for things the nation needed done long ago anyways. Infrastructure, green energy, more investment in science and education. There 's really no room for debate...the Republicans need to quit being such cry babies and stop trying to give more tax breaks to the rich.
