Obama will sign his stimulus bill in Denver.
Obama will sign his stimulus bill in Denver.

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) – Denver. Why Denver? There are several reasons why President Barack Obama will sign the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the Stimulus Plan, Tuesday in Colorado's capital city.

First of all, signing the bill outside of Washington allows Obama to escape the nation's capital, where the battle over the $787 billion piece of legislation turned into an ugly partisan battle, and to be close to people who the White House hopes will benefit from the massive bill.

The setting, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, is no accident either. Obama boasts that the stimulus will help create up to a half a million so called "green" jobs in the field of alternative energy. Prior to signing the bill into law, the president and Vice President Joe Biden will tour the museum's solar panel installation project.

Colorado has a growing green energy industry.

"Denver would be as good a place as any to highlight investments, putting people to work in energy jobs; investments that will help long-term growth," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

And finally, the Democrats held their convention in Denver last August, where then-Senator Obama officially accepted his party's presidential nomination. Obama ended up winning Colorado in the presidential contest, one of three western states that swung from the Republicans to the Democrats.

To "GenTwelve"

You didn't really say that.....did you?

He's the President, people. Let's give him a chance.
It's only been a month for cryin' out loud.

sm   February 17th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

Stop wasting taxpayers' money. Don't blame the CEOs if you want to be so lavish.

Kenneth   February 17th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

Thank you for the transparency President Obama! Those with negative comments about where the President signed the bill are those who cannot be appeased by anything that he does whether good or bad. President Obama promised transparency and what better way than to promote his agenda in public view and sign outstanding bills in states other than Washington DC? At least we now have a President willing to look the public in the eye and accept accountability for his actions. Thank you Mr. President!!!

James   February 17th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Funny for all of this change we heard about Obama is acting more like Bush everyday? If there is a problem throw a ton of monet at it! Is he going to campaign for the next 4 years or what?

An American   February 17th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

I guess Obama is still on the campaign trail. More hype and grandstanding. Well, all of us do not think this bill is a good bill Mr. Obama. People that bought houses that could afford to and are still able to pay those mortgages are getting the royal shaft because we are not going into foreclosure. We are JUSt paying on a house that is not worth what we bought it for at the same mortgage payment and if we took out an equity loan (which we could afford to pay also) we not cannot refinance because now the house is worth less. I DO NOT HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT FIXING THAT. Actually, I don't believe that big huge spending bill is going to fix much.

Richard   February 17th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Hey Sam, HIGHLAND RANCH, COLORADO, I oppose the stimulus, and I won't take any money. Please don't take any of MY MONEY for it and I'll be fine.

Washington Insider   February 17th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

Is anyone else annoyed that Congress lied about their 48 hour moratorium on the Stimulus Bill? Or the fact there it was posted 10 hours prior to voting? The only people who had seen the entire bill were those few people working in Conference, but 90%+ of Congress never saw the final bill.

We call Republicans obstructionists, but we as Democrats need to hold our Congress accountable for their promises and actions. Otherwise we are no better than the Republicans. I am getting more and more disillusioned and annoyed with how its "business as usual" on the Capital.

Billy Jack   February 17th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

So why did congress get in such an uproar over the Big 3 flying to DC by jet? This is sort of the same thing. Politics as comedy. I love it.

Griff   February 17th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

This looks nothing like: Corfu. Too Square...

Lynn   February 17th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

Why shouldn't people all across America get a chance to see and hear their president? The geographical divisions in this country need to be broken down and this is one way to do it.

Plus this gives citizens a chance to hear what he has to say unfiltered by the controversy, ratings based media as well as the partisan bs coming out of Washington.

I think Republicans are jealous of the attachment that has been made between many voters and our young, intelligent, savvy president! Who in the Republican party could do this?

Susan   February 17th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

I can not believe the Obamamaniacs still think he is a Messiah! He is signing a bill that will give Harry Reid's state 8 billion dollars for a high speed rail along with so many other items that have absolutely nothing to do with stimulating the economy now. Why don't they take that 8 billion dollars and give it to the taxpayers to spend? This will help keep people in their homes, give them money to spend and give us American citizens a little breathing room. One day soon the Kool-Aid effect will wear off (it appears some people are starting to see this) and people will finally understand that in fact he is nothing but a BS artist!

carolflowery   February 17th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Obama I don't blame you for getting away from the negative obstructionists…..It's a shame you have to deal with them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obama Mama, someone needs to remind you on a daily basis, he ran for this office 2 or more freaking years, he wanted, he's got it, deal with it.
boered1   February 17th, 2009 12:53 pm ET
So President Obama is going to sign the bill in my town I could not be happier. Here in Denver we understand a feww things that obviously the radical religious right do not yet grasp.
1) a STIMULUS bill is just that a stimulus, a jump start, not a long term final solution. So all you complaining that his will not give long term jobsshould go buy a dictionary.
2) The economy is driven by people spending,peole spend when they ahve confidence they will have a job and a home tomorrow, this bill will increase the confidence of the average person allowing the economy to recover.
3)It is funny how many people cry about the carbon footprint of pobama who, three months ago, argued it did not matter that global warming is lie guess they want it both ways huh?
4)For those crying about President waiting three days to sign the bill maybe you should look at the calendar those three days were over a Federal HOLIDAY nothing would have changed between signing it friday night and signing it today
5)For those who complain about this package being loaded with pork, define pork, this package was DESIGNED to fund work that local and state governments wanted done.
6)Finally for those who claim this is fear mongering maybe you should take a look at the local news at least once a day, unemployment is up and RISING, Businesses are failing at an increasing rate, homes are being lost, suicides are up, but I guess you want to follow the same plan bush followed on global warming for the growing economic meltdown, ie "if we wait long enough and say there is not enough truth to it someone else will have to deal with the problem!"
idiots
America wins and the GOP loses – AGAIN
Ready, set – WHINE!
Don't like the stimulus then don't accept any help from it.
Don't send your kids to our improved schools.
Don't drive on our improved roads.
Don'r apply for any jobs created by it.
Don't accept your income tax refunds or decreased payroll taxes.
Don't do anything – just as you always have!
Darin   February 17th, 2009 12:47 pm ET
I work about 3 miles down the street from the museum, and I imagine that today will be crazy downtown. This SCIENCE museum is really awesome, and I love going to that place. It's one of the neatest science museum's I've ever been to.
I guess we will just have to see if this bill will be effective the way we all imagine it will. I for one hope for the best for everyone.
Tom   February 17th, 2009 12:44 pm ET
to MaryCO.
Clean up the mess from the last 8 years?! While they were ATROCIOUS, we have far more cleaning to do than that. We lost control of policy back in the cold war when we thought it was ok to have professional military do the dirty work for us. Truman spurred this all on! If it weren't for him, Bush wouldn't have the tools to fight his sham war!
Harold   February 17th, 2009 12:43 pm ET
As the headline says, Obama heads to Denver 'for a reason". This President will not live in a cocoon to satisfy those who disagree with him. It is obvious to me most folks who write negative comments do so because of an agenda. Well for at least four years,have at it; if things turn around, you will get another four years to vent and gripe
dennis   February 17th, 2009 12:42 pm ET
Well these politicians are lying again and who is to blame these STUPID american people that vote them in. Did you all read all the package I bet not.
Dave   February 17th, 2009 12:42 pm ET
Havoc- the Dems have cried for the last 8 years so big deal. The two party scam has all the sheep in its web.
tom   February 17th, 2009 12:42 pm ET
I have a question....if this is a green conference, how much pollution did Air Force One and its entourage put out flying out to Denver? Also in this time of fiscal crisis, how much did this cost? Wouldn't if have been better for the environment and the budget to stay in DC and broadcast the signing via satellite? Hmmmm....Why don't they do what they preach in DC. Strike 1 and 2 for the Prez.
dennis   February 17th, 2009 12:41 pm ET
Jeff- Texas   February 17th, 2009 12:41 pm ET
Energy should be a focus. But all this money for this solar energy. Where is the focus on "OIL". I can't believe how all you people have forgotten the $4.00 gas prices. Mark my words it is a matter of time and you will be paying $4.00 again, and you people will be crying. This solar crap will not power my vehicle. We will be back in the same boat. Remeber what your now president said? I am glad it went up I just wish it would not have gone up that quickly? We need to be self sufficient for our own oil!!!
Dave   February 17th, 2009 12:40 pm ET
Yeah, "escaping" sounds about right. If this bill is any indication, their will be a lot of "escaping" going on by him and those in congress that vote for such idiocy.
HonestMistake   February 17th, 2009 12:40 pm ET
Just another "Look at Me" moment for Obama. Can't he do anything quietly? No need to sell the bill, it's a done deal. Nothing we can do about it now except wait for the tax increases.
Dave   February 17th, 2009 12:39 pm ET
By signing this in Denver, Obama is green? Puleeze....
The guy took a page from al bore's book about being green.
You know, fly around all over the world in your jet and then complain that everybody is creating too much carbon. Turn your thermostat down, but I get to turn mine all the way up.
You Dems are following the Pied Piper of Illinois/Washington. For your own sake, you better hope that you are a cripple.
Pat F   February 17th, 2009 12:39 pm ET
The endless publicity stunts on the Federal dime are going to start wearing very thin on the American people. Barry better start sticking around Washington and doing his job instead of campaigning for 2012.
Jessica   February 17th, 2009 12:38 pm ET
Poor Republicans I wish they would stop crying. The opposition you put the more we commend Obama for his endless efforts to put this country back together. Again he inherited this mess.. I can't believe McCain of all people has a the nerve to comment on the package.
He had no idea what he was going to do and this is why he continues to sit on the side line. America has spoken.
So all of the oppositionist are welcome because the more you oppose, the more we see you are not worthy of you current positions.
We can vote you back to the sideline. This is the process......
Sincerely-
A U.S. citizen for change
Bill in California   February 17th, 2009 12:38 pm ET
I'm amused by the intellectually superior dems who think they have solved the nations problems with the whisk of a wand and a new hand to wave it. You can blame everything on the last eight years on one party all you want but YOU need to grow up too. Political greed and misdirection cannot in good conscience be pinned solely on one party or even a political party. EVERYONE had a hand in this mess from those who only have their hand out to those who abused good legislative intent for their own gain.
mj   February 17th, 2009 12:36 pm ET
The country is in financial crisis and Mr. Obama heads thousands of miles away to Denver to sign the bill. wht is the cost to the U.S. taxpayers for him to fly to Denver – for political points?? He could just have signed the bill in Washington with the gaggle of reporters to flash the pictures and record his speech. It is a waste of money to fly so far away just to sign a bill – a huge waste. The American people are hurting financially and the President shows no signs of his own sacrifice to show to the American people he understands their pain. Huggin someone at a speech is symbloic, but actions speak louder than words. Show us your pain Mr. President.
This discussion about Air Force One is moot. He is the president of the U N I T E D S T A T E S, not Crawford, Texas. So yes, in this day and age, he's going to have to travel throughtout the US, and yes the world. Get over yourselves. He's doing his job, you know the one that the majority of Americans sent him to Washington, D.C. to do–that job.
And BTW, Air Force One is probably the safest aircraft for the most powerful man in the world. Our tax dollars were used, probably millions of dollars to beef up the plane so that it would be safe. Also, the president's vehicles and other items have to travel with him. So stop tripping, how are you going to put all of that on JetBlue? Take your meds and leave my president alone.
I agree with Pat NY, Air Force One is and should be for the President at any time he sees fit.
My suggestion would be to put Ms. Peolsi on economy Jet Blue with a one way ticket to somewhere other than Washington with no chance to get a return flight.
patNY February 17th, 2009 11:46 am ET
I wonder, if he were white, would you be raising the same issue.
Are you Dems going to play the race card every time someone says something bad about Obama? It's already old. Obama said he would be different and bipartisan. The Pelosi House bill wasn't either. Obama can't ask for input, then let Pelosi and Reid ignore it, and still claim to be bipartisan. Race has nothing to do with this. Flying to Denver for the signing is just showmanship, and expensive showmanship at that.
Uncle Ellsworthy   February 17th, 2009 12:27 pm ET
The main reason he's going to Denver is he gets to fly on that big ole airplane. It seems he likes it pretty well.
I don't know what the question is, but the answer is Obama. He's doing a fine job.
NY republican   February 17th, 2009 12:23 pm ET
OK everyone let me get this straight – The Republicans vote no on a bill that no one has the time to read and that's being partisan and therefore bad. The Democrats vote yes on a bill that no one has the time to read and that's not being partisan and therefore good. We now have a spending plan that no one had the time to read and a President that is winging his way to Denver to sign. By the Democrats' definition this is good for the country?
He is going to the people that voted him in, democracy at its best! Read, watch and learn the PROCESS, the democratic process! I love it!
Carla   February 17th, 2009 12:21 pm ET
If I oppose the stimulus I am told not to accept any money/guess what there is nothing in the bill for me. While my taxes which I have to send by April 15th will be used for this bill there is no benefit for me.
I am a 55 year old working woman(single mom) own my own home make my mortage payments on time always have and recently finished paying off the last of my debt for my daughter's college education. I leave for work every morning around 6:30 and get home around 7ish. I have voted in every election historical or not and even voted in the 7 years that I lived abroad thru absentee ballot.
I fail to understand why it was necessary to have a senator leave his mother's wake to sign a bill that was not being signed until today and not in Washington? tomorrow another spending announcement to bail out homeowners/where will he go to sell this new bill?
Ray Fisher, Albuquerque, NM   February 17th, 2009 12:21 pm ET
Fair is fair, I didnt like the fear-mongering Republicans during the elections ergo I do not like the fear-mongering President over the stimulus. Why must we be manipulated by everyone??? Did we elect McSame by accident???
Dear GenTwelve,
The President is not trying to avoid and problems by "fleeing" Washington. He is doing what Mr. Bush did not, and that is meeting the "average joes" of the United States. Washington is corrupt and what President Obama is doing is fantastic. He is showing America that he truely cares about what the people want and that he will not be a part of the partisenship battles going on in Washington. This is not a "campaign stunt" rather it is a way to get away from the negative obstructionists and discover what the people of the United States of America wants him to do for them.
I would love to hear from anyone who has any follow-up comments. :)
2. I will question my leaders whenever I like – regardless of color
Boy I see there are a lot racits on her commenting today, the republicans are out in full force again showing how dumb they are. They will never get over the fact that Sarah and John didnt win. And that we have a very well educated and caring president who is trying to make things right for this country. If republicans keep this up it will be a long time before their canadate makes it to white house. They must be counting on Sarah in 2012. Gosh, after reading these comments, the Losing Republicans appear to continue to operate in Petty & Childish.
America HOPES that President Obama succeeds beyond our wildest dreams. Why don't you? We need to get moving and rescue America, as a team!
Yes, we can.
As far as whining about the President of the United States using Air Force One to get out of DC and be with the people? Get a life!
Bush used Air Force One to fly all over for fundraisers and to campaign for people! Yet you're complaining that Obama is going to Denver to highlight an American city's success and innovation, with no fund raising or campaigning????????????? The hypocrisy is just nauseating.
Gosh, Rush Republicans are on the opposite side of the world.
Obama got 53% of the vote, currently enjoys higher support from the public than the day he was elected, the job approval for Republicans is falling like a rock, and yet they still obstruct! And after eight years of rubber-stamping George W. Bush, the most incompetent President ever!
Whew.
Rick   February 17th, 2009 12:07 pm ET
Yes, he is going to Denver for a reason.....because he was told to go to Denver by the lunatics who are actually running the show. Obama has no idea what's going on.....he is merely the puppet.
Pat   February 17th, 2009 12:06 pm ET
While I don't expect the stimulus bill to do much at all for the huge amount of dollars in it, I do expect all of those complaining about it to SHUT UP! Where were you all for 8 years when the Bush/Cheney regime put us into the state we're in now – trillions of dollars in debt and beholden to other countries?
Kelsey, MI   February 17th, 2009 12:06 pm ET
Shooting for the stars. I love this president.
Alan   February 17th, 2009 12:06 pm ET
It is ironic to me that all of the anti-Bush folks faulted him for running up our debt and spending too much. They also fault Wall St banks for taking bailout money.
But...When the money is being doled out for them, they are all for it. Sadly, this bill only doles out money to Obama's, Pelosi's, and Reid's, pet projects. Ex: A light rail between Vegas and LA (Reids home state) started out at $3 BILLION and ended up being $8 BILLION in the final bill. Now, how many of the construction contracts will be awarded to Reid supporters. Now that is stimulus for Reids relection efforts, but does little for the country.
Nick   February 17th, 2009 12:05 pm ET
I'd say, the republican's are learning how to get their troops in lock-step. Any article about our Pres. is filled with hateful negitive comments from the very ignorant bottom of the republican base. They must all be part of Limbaugh's loser army. Bye Bye Republicans, you had your chance and you failed.
The gentleman who called Obama a monkey I think he should look at himself first before calling anyone a monkey, we are all God's children . It is a shame that this country is still divided and will always be dvided if the Republicans do not stop their racist ideas. Shame on you America.
Republicans are bad teamplayers. President Obama is the resolute president and I am looking forward to seeing him fare as the number 1 president of all time, beyond the previous 43 - especially #43. He is incredible and extraordinary ... especially in these times of fixing the problems of the past 8 years. Yes, Republicans are mad ... because he is so right for this time. John McCain should continue to keep his mouth shut - in addition to Boehner, McConnell, and the rest of the GOP elite. Because interesting enough the GOP brought us to this point in our nation's history. As President Obama said, we will rise to this occasion ... and he will dominate our political history. I am looking forward to the next 8 years with our dear president. He is going to make a world of difference for these United States and the world. God Bless Him on this defining journey... and to these United States in protecting Him... Godspeed Barack Obama. You are the one you will save us.
we will never be represented by a common man in upper government. Obviously only the welathy can get elected, or those who have already sold their souls to get where they are...
Wealth requires you do special things for those who can make you wealthier.. and the truth is most of us have too much of a conscience to climb the ladder....
I depise what has happened to this country, and I really can't be real proud of it.. we need a regular Joe or Jane to finally represent us workers...
Dot Livengood   February 17th, 2009 11:59 am ET
We put a man on the moon and if we can do that we can do this and this and this according to one of Obama's speeches while he was campaigning. Fly to Denver after being in Chicago the city of Crime and No-Gooders for valentines day!!!. He wants to do something about the economy-well we taxpayers who are old, lost our savings, and listened to an upstart who has had four or more of nominees to step down does not prove to me he is going to do us a bit of good. He is using us to run all over the country and we pay for this and the all of the security comes from city's government pockets plus kisses Peloski's and Reid's butts to make them push this package through-what a farce and it is a sad day here in MO. I'm a democrat by choice, and I have the choice again to vote Independent next time around.
Thomas   February 17th, 2009 11:59 am ET
I believe the President can sign the bill where ever he feels like signing it. It is his decision.
I don't understand why this is especially news worthy.
kelly WI   February 17th, 2009 11:58 am ET
He doesn't have the cajones to veto this spending bill. Nancy and Harry won't let him.
11% of the money released this year. Interest on it will make it 3 Trillion. Next will be another bank, auto, baliout for trillions. Then they get to write the budget for next year and god only knows what they will put in there.
Well, enjoy your 10$ a week while it lasts. Next thing you know it will cost you 20$ a week to have had the privilege of having it.
The economy would turn around on its own. It always does. But this way the messiah can get out there and say he saved the nation and start throwing out the pork money to his pals.
40,000$ an hour to fly around. But it might be best to have them out of DC so they can't devastate us any more.
I really feel sorry for the working people. Looks like they will be working all their lives since the pensions are disapearing, SS is bankrupt, not to meniton medicare. I'm sure they'll think up another social ponzi scheme to make us have to work for.
When is he going to start doing the only job he is required to and quit being Nanny in Chief and being Commander in Chief.?
I see one of his pals chopped off his wifes head in NY.
What a waste of time being bipartisan was! Obama tried to ring in a new year and presidency with a bipartisan spirit, and the GOP has responded with "more of the same."
Bipartisianship has to work both ways, I applaud Obama for calling for it but Pelosi and Reid need to let it happen. They didnt in this case.
The Republican WAR Machine is at it again – paid bloggers struming up fake issues like critising Obama using Airforce One etc. It would be a mistake for Obama to cut cost of his travel as tsafe mode for his travel greatly enhance his ability to properly represent the American People. Thank God Obama is in control at this time of national Crisis and not the Republicans as thier failed policies are what got us here in this mess in the first place.
Ray from Gainesville VA   February 17th, 2009 11:55 am ET
Hey Shawn, if you'd pay attention, President Obama said he would give the people up to 5 days to review all bills before he signs it. Man, do you Right Wingers ever do your own homework or just listen to Rush and Sean.
GenTwelve,
You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Referring to our President as a "monkey" is completely disrespectful. It is okay to have different opinions about his performance but it is not okay to disrespect him or any President.
When Obama was elected (Nov 5, 2008) the Stock Market (DJIA) was at 9139. Today the Stock Market falls below 7600.
Could it be that Obama – in a single day – will create MORE debt than George Bush did in 8 years??
This isn't "change" – this is called getting PUNK'D by the Democrats!
Rachelraye49 - MD   February 17th, 2009 11:51 am ET
Good for him get as far away from hear as you can. Give him a chance. He is intelligent and I trust his judgment. We didn't get in this mess overnight so why all of a sudden you think we can get out of in in 30 days or less. Come on people give him a chance. The Republicans sure aren't. They didn't have any trouble signing the last stimulast that we got. Oh, right that President last name was Bush.
Ray from Gainesville VA   February 17th, 2009 11:51 am ET
Why is it that the Rethugs have no problem spending up to 1 Trillion dollars blowing up and building/rebuilding Iraq (who we now know was no threat to us), but they have a problem spending $800billion on their own people in America? Why? Please, some Rethug answer this. And GenTwelve, I got your monkey right here.
katiec   February 17th, 2009 11:51 am ET
I am so tired of politics as usual by the republican party. How can any worthy politician hope our country fails?? They brought our country and the world to it's knees these last eight years and now they are suddenly "experts" on the economy??
We will all remember these immoral hypocrits come next elections.
you people complaining about Air Force 1's carbon footprint need to ask yourselves, did you make the same complaints about Bush's weekly flights to his Crawford Ranch?
Get a grip! What do you think Obama should do? Fly economy on JetBlue? He's the flipp'n president! He needs to fly on Air Force 1, so he can run the entire country from it while travelling.
I wonder, if he were white, would you be raising the same issue.
Ugh!
Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   February 17th, 2009 11:45 am ET
The "real people" who elected Obama are not nearly as intelligent or well-informed as he is, or as most "inside-the-Beltway" residents are. Most 'real people" are ignorant of news and politics, focused instead on their families, jobs and possessions. I do not trust them to make important decisions for me or all of us.
Why don't the Republicans realize that they lost the election. I have never seen such poor losers. I think they should be ashamed to keep telling the American people the Stimulus package is a failure. I sure hate to see what would have become of this Nation if John McCain had been elected. We all would be starving to death because they don't want to spend a dime for nothing. You can always tell a Republican – they are stingy and arrogant.
Well at least your idiotic, broken record people are not in control to do so any longer, but I realize you can't stop yourselves from being who you are, just like that chimp that went on a rampage.
If your a Republican and you have no feeling of responsibility for the state of the world right now, I challenge you to go on youtube and type in "Bushisms". Watch a couple of these vids and take a moment to step outside of yourself and think practically what a man of that caliber being your leader says about you. Oh wait, practical thinking isn't an option for people like yourselves who almost put a woman one heartbeat away from the presidency who thinks dinosaurs and people walked together before Noah's Ark.
A Kickin' Donkey   February 17th, 2009 11:37 am ET
All those hiding behind the "carbon footprint" talk about Air Force One ... get real.
Barack Obama is the President of the United States ... he is going to take trips. I don't want another George Bush that is hiding out in the White House, afraid to interact with the publich or the press. Obama is smart, can think on his feet, is confident and has the truth / facts on his side. He doesn't have to hide like George did.
President Obama is going to use "multipliers" like appearing at a solar energy location to encourage renewable energy development. I, and many other Americans, think that this is SMART. He is leading by example.
If he can combine that with a traditional republican stronghold, that he happened to win in the election ...TOO BAD GOP .... you should have done what was necessary to keep Colorado in your column.
Rob   February 17th, 2009 11:36 am ET
Republicans: Get out of your snit, join in the Democrats' attempt to clean up the mess left by your people over the last 8 years.<<<
Rob to Democrats: if you want big spending, pork barrel socialism....drop dead. No cooperation for you, ever. Republicans will be happy to cooperate when you start enacting policies that actually make sense.
And, of course, it's a lie to pretend ONE party (or ONE person!) is responsible for the housing bubble. It's a complete falsehood which Obamamommas keep repeating again and again, apparently in the hope that that somehow will make it true.
If everything that happened during Bush's Presidency is Bush's fault, is Obama responsible for the fact that the markets have dipped since he took office? Is Obama responsible for the prices that gas prices are going back up? What's with the double standard?
Baze   February 17th, 2009 11:35 am ET
merm   February 17th, 2009 11:34 am ET
I think it's funny that President Obama has been in office 4 weeks, has taken 2 vacations and has traveled to multiple cities – CAMPAIGNING, of all things. If he would have sat down with leaders of BOTH parties and had the leadership to create ground rules for the stimulus – the trillion dollar pork bill would not have happened. I see absolutely no leadership in him – he is still campaigning and letting others do the heavy lifting, without standing up to obvious pork. I think he'll be joining Bush 43 on the list of ineffective presidents in about 4 years – this isn't change, it's more of the same with a bigger pricetag......
RJ   February 17th, 2009 11:33 am ET
Obama... bi-partisan... are you kidding me?!?!
You don't start a bi-partisan effort by opening up with the conversation with "I won".
Bi-partisan ended the second that phrase left his lips.
This is a purely Democrat bill full of wasteful spending.
He BARELY won. 56% is neither a landslide nor a mandate from the people. In Vegas it's called a squeaker.
And to Sam in Colorado, I won't take one penny of it if I DON'T HAVE TO PAY ONE PENNY INTO IT.
Ever since 1932, this country has turned into the sorriest lot of whining losers in history; a gutless, spineless, bunch, always begging for scraps from Washington, whose only moral imperative is a determination to drag the rest of us down to their level of whimpering, puling, dependency on whatever their civil masters condescend to throw them.
All of you pathetic tools who are soooooo concerned about fuel, should just go suck a cows butt for some methane if it was that important.
All of a sudden everyone is concerned with our President doing what a President is elected to do. Your simple minds must have forgotten that when Bush was elected in 01 he took a vacation after inauguration before actually working. ALL ON TAXPAYER DOLLARS. At least PRESIDENT OBAMA is working, something #43 was never actually accustomed too.
Danny G. Boca Raton, FL   February 17th, 2009 11:30 am ET
Critics are desperate; the president has landed one of the biggest bills in history with incredibly lasting effects in the American economy and all you ignorants and ney sayers seem to come up with is "he should have more tax cuts"? Republicans had a chance to talk to the president and to their Dem collegues; the blew it! this was not their bill to be responsible for... this was their opportunity to help amend and shape a spending and tax cut deal that will help the average American worker... instead they made these incredulous speeches and posturing and in the end they are ensuring that this president will not want to work with them. some people here are so racist that they resort to phrases like "This Monkey", well he is our president and one that has had an impressive start. I for one intend to support our president and to hope that we all can do our part to improve the economy and each other.
Henry Miller, Cary, NC   February 17th, 2009 10:58 am ET
If Obama had any courage at all, he'd veto Nancy Pelosi's spending spree and tell Congress to try again, this time leaving out all the pork, the political pay-offs, and the pandering to the welfare bums the Democrats depend on to get themselves reelected.
Scott, Tucson   February 17th, 2009 10:58 am ET
Thats a laugh! Obama talks about the Green Environment and yet he flys cross country in a fuel belching jet at taxpayers expense. That sure sets the example for the rest of us.
And just what are these green jobs he's speaking of? Picking up litter along side the highway for minimum wage?
Ray Fisher, Albuquerque, NM   February 17th, 2009 10:56 am ET
Soon we will be calling the frequent announcements of an announcement coming soon, an Obama Drama!!! I cannot understand why announcements cannot simply be made without prior notice to build anticipation. Perhaps it is pure politics which I don't understand yet am lost on the melodrama on announcing an announcement for a future happening or annoucement. We have just forgone a longweekend waiting for the President to sign a dire piece of legislation to save our nation yet it could wait for the weekend after chartering a plane to fly the deciding vote in from Ohio because of the urgency. It is very confusing to have the President cry wolf constantly!!!
ken   February 17th, 2009 10:56 am ET
I see someone has forgotten the campaign is over.
Randy from MD   February 17th, 2009 10:56 am ET
I can't help but get the sinking feeling that this thing is falling apart... it is so sad.
Gordon Shumway   February 17th, 2009 10:55 am ET
Hope this isn't another one of his famous, let me step on my doofus speeches..................
Tom in Delaware   February 17th, 2009 10:53 am ET
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) sounds like the mating call for a Kennedy.
Hey, it's the biggest Tax and Spend bill in our history, so the King of the Liberals (Teddy) should be honored.
All glory and Honor is yours almighty Obama...
Good move!   February 17th, 2009 10:52 am ET
I am proud of President Obama. he has been a voice for the people and he will not forget them. I have never experienced a President that actually cared about the people. I am happy that he is not in Washington with the bickering and fighting. I am sick of republicans that do not care about the people. Thank god my neice is born in a world with a President that is African American and loves all people. He loves his family and loves his country. God bless him. God bless America as we recover from tjis mess. How Bush can sleep at night is beyond my understanding. May God have mercy on his soul. I cannot wait to see the signing of this package.
Texas Teacher   February 17th, 2009 10:51 am ET
Of course.... this man hit the ground running. Just as he promised! The only mistake he made was to try to be bipartisan. As I said, the Republicans will smile at your face and laugh at your back. Bipartisanship is the very LAST thing they want to have! They are running for the next election... and that is what they always have done. Rush Limbaugh is their leader and Sara Palin, pg or not, is their poster child!
They want to energize the economy exactly the same way they got us into this mess. Their answer to every thing is to make the rich richer and the poor poorer! Because their main goal is to do just that. DO NOT THINK FOR ONE MOMENT THAT THAT IS STILL NOT THE ADENDA FOR THE REPULIBAN PARTY!
frodo   February 17th, 2009 10:50 am ET
Please, Mr. President, stop campaigning! your carbon footprint is huge!! Start leading by example. Why can't you just get on TV and spread your message? Is it because you fear that no one will have digital TVs?
Or are you having a hard time justifying the bill...?
So, the average American gets $13/week tax cut. That's $676/yr with an average of 160million Americans paying taxes, this means that this portion of the bill costs about $110billion...So, for my $8 invested in this bill (~$800billion) i will stand to see about $1 returned to me. Gee, thanks!
Kevin in Ohio   February 17th, 2009 10:49 am ET
He's got one last chance NOT to sign this travesty of a bill. But I doubt he'll do the right thing. Anybody noticed how the stock market is reacting today? ..... Whatever comes from this spending plan will be 100% on the dems and liberals. I hope everyone remebers that in 2010 and 2012.
Chill out   February 17th, 2009 10:47 am ET
This president is great and thinks of everything. To the sorry republicans get over it you lost again. Try to block Obama's agenda and get knocked flat on your A*S
J   February 17th, 2009 10:47 am ET
I can't believe the fate of the nation is being left to some guy who has no experience what so ever. Even worse, it seems as though Pelosi is running the show...how scary.
Chuck, Tennessee   February 17th, 2009 10:46 am ET
So far, Wall Street seems unimpressed with the stimulus package. People are already seeing it for what it is – a huge spending bill that will do very little to create long-lasting jobs. Over the last 10 years, Congress and the White House have mortgaged the future of our country to the point that we may never recover. I doubt my children will enjoy the same lifestyles that we baby boomers have had.
Jonathan   February 17th, 2009 10:44 am ET
What a waste of time being bipartisan was! Obama tried to ring in a new year and presidency with a bipartisan spirit, and the GOP has responded with "more of the same." Now we have a bled and gutted stimulus package which will not be enough to provide the necessary recovery needed for our nation. Americans will suffer, and when it fails, tha GOP will blame Obama and the Democratic congress.
Those tools on capitol hill just dont get it.
obambi   February 17th, 2009 10:43 am ET
Will this man never stop blowing our money to feed his enormous ego? Another "spiffy" ride on Airforce One? What is wrong with the Oval Office? Oh, I forgot–The Million dollar Greek Columns are probably still in Denver. This showmanship has got to stop! Is Al Gore watching from his own "carbon spewing" jet? Where is the "Left-WingWatchdog", now?
RR   February 17th, 2009 10:43 am ET
If only Air Force One ran on econ-friendly fuel!
How much carbon was emitted by the President's plane and the planes for the DC press corps?
sam, HIGHLAND RANCH, COLORADO   February 17th, 2009 10:42 am ET
What a wonderful day, for Colorado. What a great day for our Nation. On that, I will say, If you opose this stimulus bill, DON'T ACCEPT ANY MONEY! I LIVE IN HIGHLANDS RANCH, OUR IDIOT CONGRESSMAN VOTED NO, SO OUR DISTRICT SHOULD NOT GET 1 PENNY!!!
Obama Victim   February 17th, 2009 10:41 am ET
what is it costing for this travel................this is clearly political...is the DNC paying for this???
ah yes......change we can believe in
shawn   February 17th, 2009 10:39 am ET
He waits four days to sign an emergency bill. More evidence nothing has changed. More politics
obama-mama   February 17th, 2009 10:37 am ET
Obama I don't blame you for getting away from the negative obstructionists.....It's a shame you have to deal with them.
