Recovery.gov launched

 Recovery.gov has launched.
Recovery.gov has launched.

(CNN) - Hours before President Obama was set to sign the $787 billion stimulus measure, the White House launched Recovery.gov, a site that the White House is calling an “unprecedented step to increase transparency in government.”

The site aims to break down the massive bill into simpler terms that relate exactly where the money is being directed. It includes a video address from President Obama promoting the benefits of the plan.

The site also includes the full text of the bill itself, and a Frequently Asked Question's section that fields such queries as "How will the recovery plan work?," "How can I see how much recovery money is coming to my community?," and "What type of programs will this recovery package fund?"

"This is your money. You have a right to know where it's going and how it's being spent," the site states.

So to all those ignorant bill supporters. If barack is going to be more transparent and give people five days to look through the packages he signs into law, why did we not see anything or this website till today, the day he is signing the thing? Also, have any of you actually read some of the 1000 pages of the package or have you just listend to the heavily biased media on tis one? Tell me this how is 247 million dollars going to Hollywood to help producers buy film going to help creat jobs? How is spending 462 million dollars to construct a brand new CDC building going to create new or long term jobs? How about the 335 million spent for STD education & prevention? or the 2.7 BILLION for embryonic stem cell experimentation? 600 million to buy new cars for goverment workers? or even the 400 million for NASA to conduct climate change research?
To those that say it was all Bush's fault we are here in this mess look at Time"s latest article listing the top 25 people that helped cause this mess, you will find our beloved and saintly Bill Clinton among them.
wake up and educate yourselves. This presidancy isn't anymore about change than any of the others.

Republicans, stop running around with that, “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!” Chicken Little mentality. Remember God is supposed to protect you! Ups! Maybe you are following the god of darkness, (fear, hate, lies, stress, anger, hostility, separatism and animosity.
Try the God we serve, the one of love, light, kindness, togetherness and affection. Ask for forgiveness for your scare tactics to increasing the selling of guns. Maybe then you can feel good about yourself and working together with your fellow honest Democrats and Our Heavenly Father will forgive you and heal our land. Edrita TX

    Rob,
You say to fine one thing that is stimulative but then you say your "socialist ideas don't count". This is a lame ad hominum argument. Democrats won. You can't just call us names and say Obama hasn't reached out. It's simply un true.
First of all, just helping the states and local governments is stimulative. It keeps the "socialized" Fire fighters from getting laid off. It keeps the "socialized" police officers on the beat. It keeps the the traffic planners and and DMV open so business can continue. Employers can not hire drivers if they can't verify thier Driving Record because the DMV is closed. As it is every other Friday in CA now. That's 10% less time, DMV can service business.
Also, Bush was the most secretive administration in history. FOIA requests were repeatedly denied for no good reason. What about the anthrax attacks against Tom Daschle and Pat Leahy during the deliberation of the USA PATRIOT act? That was rammed thorugh. Only Democratic congressmen and senators were hit.

Why do those who scream socialism never want to mention corn, cotton, oil, sugar subsides, just to name a few? We have been a socialized nation for many years. This is nothing new. Why scream socialism only when the democrat gets into office? It's always been like this, at least for as long as a good majority of us have been alive.

I suppose the main reason they scream socialism is because that entertainer rush something or other screams it. Maybe you should take a moment to learn what the word is before you scream it all over the place. You just sound silly.

What negativity on this board.....can't you guys stand behind your President and give him a chance. I'm sure half of you wouldn't have read that Bill, even if was posted on this new site. At best, not too many of you would have understood it anyways. There sure seems to be a lot of stupid and ignorant posts on this board.

Tell you what....you take our Prime Minister Harper and give us Obama. Trust me....maybe then you'll stop complaining.

Also, I get a "friggin" headache reading some of these posts. They're full of spelling, grammar mistakes and run on sentences. Don't you people read your comments before sending them off. They won't run off anywhere....take the time to review your words.

Nationalized Banks? A Government-run Auto Industry? Capping executive pay? Tax refunds for people who do not work or pay taxes?
    Dis-Incentivising Innovation and Capitalistic motivation?

Starting to sound like a familiar story!

Hey John, I'm with you. However, when communicating with Rob, understand that he will only answer those questions which have been indoctrinated into him by Fox news. I've tried to reason with him but so far he is unable to debate logically. He will interpret what you say to suit him and then resort to a bunch of name calling. By the way, keep your dictionary handy because he gets a little confused when it comes to correcting spelling errors.

In response to the very first post, it is clearly stated that the site was launched hours before the signing of the bill, don't be dumb. The site is a tool to show where the money will be spent. If they were not spending any stimulus money before now there was no use for the site.

Also in response to others who seem to be so oblivious, if we were to sit on our hands and let the chips fall as they may, by this time next year we would for sure be looking at a national depression, not a recession. The declining state of our economy is made evident by announcement of tens of thousands of new job cuts that are made daily. Obama did not create this mess, he inherited it from the Bozo who held the Presidential seat for the last eight years.

The stock market tanked long before this bill was signed. You may want to check the trend for the last year. To blame one more bad day on the stimulus bill is ignorant.

This is day one of the new website. To anyone doubting the true nature of this site, claiming it is too vague, give it some time. Rome wasn't built in a day. The actual predicted spending of the stimulus funds may change as time goes by, its hard to tell you where the money was spent the money before they spend it.

After the colossal mess GWB left as President, do you think that for one minute your concerns about the Obama camp will be taken seriously? It is clear that the Cons don't know how to react to transparency. They prefer to be kept in the dark and led around like sheep.

    EDRITA.

    Read your own comments.

That is exactly what Barney Frank said to the panel on You Tube when they told him in 2004,2005 that they had to change the laws on mortgages.

Nice quote. He actually told Republicans that they were being chicken little. They warned him. He was getting paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. DEMOCRATS caused the mortgage crisis.

The problem is that Bush and Obama have now done the same things and they are not helping. The problem is the approach of BOTH Democrats and Republicans.

This bill is flawed just as the previous Bush bill was.

No one is really questioning the bill and Obama passed it so fast that there could not be reasonable debate...Bush did the same thing. The government is playing a big role in creating the problems and telling us how to fix them.

Obama is not gaining support by admonishing Auto execs for flying to DC, and then getting on Air Force One and flying himself everywhere. Start fostering the conservation that you campaigned on. Use the internet, telepresence. When AF1 flys, they bring a spare 747, and an airforce cargo plane with the entire motorcade whereever the president goes...this is a huge waste.

Over the upcoming months, we will provide more information on the distribution of funding by Federal agencies. In order to give small businesses and Americans across the country a chance to apply for recovery dollars to create and save jobs, some funding may not be distributed until this summer. New information on the allocation of funds will be posted on Recovery.gov as it becomes available.

The money hasn't gone anywhere yet. How can you give details on where the money went, if none has even been distributed? You people will find anything to complain about.

Q: I heard I'd be able to track recovery funds. Why can't I do that?
A: You aren't able to track funds yet because we have not yet started receiving information from Federal agencies on how they are going to allocate the money. It takes a little bit of time for them to make sure your money is going to be spent wisely. Right now, the site features an overview of the law and an explanation of what it is intended to accomplish. You will have access to data as soon as we begin receiving it from agencies.

I found this answer easily on the site.

You know the saddest thing about all this is the division it's causing in this country. I believe in the two party system – we need checks and balance in our lawmakers. Just because one party wins an election, doesn't mean the other party is supposed bow down. We're not a dictatorship.

A balance of ideas between the two parties is what I was hoping for with this stimulus, along with true debate over the contents. To find out the majority of Congress has no clue what's in the bill is frightening. To blindly vote for something because someone tells you to isn't just crazy, it's irresponsible! If I presented a proposal like this stimulus to the owners of our company, I'd be fired on the spot. And to think they would agree to a spending package, on my word alone, is ludicrous.

I work as a bookkeeper in a small retail/service business. From what I've been able to find out, this stimulus will do absolutely nothing for us. Our employees will continue to be on shortened hours, possibly rolling layoffs; we'll continue to cut spending and try to keep the business afloat. We're going to continue to pay part of the employee health insurance premiums.

Now I hear that a portion of the "stimulus" won't even take effect for 10 years! Can anyone maintain a business on promises that might show up in 10 years?

The stimulus package has had a huge negative effect on the market and the economy already. 5% drop in the S&P last week, down 250 today

Now ask me if I am surprised? The fact is those who have enough money to affect Wall Street do not want this to succeed, they want failure because this plan stops them from making obscene profits at our expense. Since when ahs Wall Street EVER represented Main Street? Rich Republicans sell off and foolish people take that to mean the economy is failing, idiots

Launching this today, AFTER he signs the bill is not transparant gov. This is Washington as usual, and BO is no better than any other politician. Launch the site, WAIT A WEEK FOR EVERYONE TO READ THE ENTIRE DOCUMENT, THEN let Congress vote.

Considering he ran on the platform of hope and change, he's using fear and politics as usual to do what he wants.

$142 billion to protect the vulnerable? I don't have a clue what that means. New buzz word like "transparency". I used to give presentations on overhead projectors using transparencies, that was until lost my job and my wife lost hers during the great Bill Clinton era. Companies downsizing. No jobs, almost lost house but no government handout. We had to learn a new trade but did it and moved on with our lives. Worst words in the world, "I am from the government and I am here to help you". Just do it yourself!!!!!
