Holder says he'll go to Guantanamo Bay as 'first step'

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder disclosed Wednesday that he will travel to the Guantanamo Bay military detention center next week as a "first step" in a process to determine what to do with detainees held there.

Holder told reporters after a speech on civil rights that he will make the trip to Cuba on Monday with the Justice Department's point man on counterterrorism, Matt Olsen, who serves as acting assistant attorney general for the National Security Division.

Spokesman Dean Boyd termed the trip "the beginning of a review process."

Holder told reporters review of the Guantanamo detainees' individual cases has begun and officials are "making progress," but he declined to be more specific.

Thank you for getting on top of this situation Mr. Holder. Once we find out where to send these people, there needs to be a serious inquiry on what took place at that facilty in Cuba. Cheney can't hide behind that executive order anymore. As for the 17 chinese detainees, send them back to China!

Now he goes to 'determine'? After having already said what he wanted to do?! Way to go with an open mind, Holder!

Q: Why not simply let loose these enemy combatants in Chicago??

A: Because Illinois Democrats don't want that much competition.

are you going to continue to bash America while you're there? Feel like calling Americans anything else besides cowards?

Now our AG is race baiting and calling Americans cowards because we can't deal with race issues.

THE ONLY ISSUE IS THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE IN POWER WHO CONTINUE TO RACE BAIT.

You are talking about a small percentage of people in America who have race issues. The vast majority of people i know don't care if you're black, white, red, yellow, or whatever.

Look at what you people are doing. Young people don't care about color- its the old fools who continue to use race in order to increase their own political standing and divide people.

Great! This will help White People. In Meza, the poster child of the problem either its the 2.4% blacks to blame, or the 81% whites. Check out the facts:
The racial make-up of the city was 81.6% White, 2.4% Black or African American, 2.2% Native American, 2.00% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 9.3% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 24.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race
    _______________________________________________

    I wouldn't get too excited because you found a statistical outlier;

Why don't you look up crime statistics, for any state, city or town...and you'll see that blacks are leading in commiting crimes! So, stifle your racist crap!

    HOLDER- YOU SUCK.

Our new AG is now calling American citizens cowards because we don't focus on race enough. Maybe the problem is that black people are obsessed with the fact that they are black, and feel the world owes them something.

I don't care what color you are- if you are a hard working, honest person and you fulfill your responsibilities, you are more than OK in my book.

I think thats the view most Americans have. You, Mr AG, are race baiting. I'm beyond irked.

Sweet. Never saw Mulkasey or Alberto "Get out the Gimp Suit" Gonzalez do something responsible like this.

Obama's administration has done more in 1 month to embarass the GOP than Bush did to embarass America in 8 years.

How about a trip to the secret AT&T room in San Francisco where the NSA got (and still gets?) its copy of all data flowing through there without a NSA warrant? (Unless he is conflicted out by having advised AT&T while he was at C&B on whether the Bush assurance of legality passed the straight-face test.)

What a loser! I saw an article where Holder says the US is a nation of cowards when it comes to race, and that on the weekends, we still segregate....what an idiot! Should I stop and pick up some black folk on the way home, maybe stop at KFC for a bucket of chicken? Eric, people hang around who they want to hang around...there's no law yet, (although I wouldn't put it past you liberal pukes) citing that races must mingle.....get a fricking clue! Also, while you're in Cuba kissing terrorist butts, try to remember the victims of 9/11, and don't apologize like your boss did.....liberalism is such a disease.

What is the point if you are not going to look into Bush wrong doing? I am not saying Bush is a crook, but we should not trun a blind eye if there is reason to look into his actions. The only other reason to go would be that Cuba is nice this time of year.

I say release them all. Send them to Afghanistan and drop them in the middle of a firefight between the coalition and the Taliban.

  16. Enemy combatants

If the folks being held in Cuba are enemy combatants, then they are POW's You release POW's after the war is over. Last check, we were still fighting the War on Terro and Al Quaeda.

Obama and his cabinet will do a lot of studies and hold a lot of hearings, but at the end of the day, they will reach the same conclusion as Dick Cheney and President Bush - These are enemy combatants (AKA POW's) and the War is not yet over, so they need to be held

Hey, maybe while you're there you should realize that G-Bay is really Cuban territory and we are using it illegally. Evacuate the base, leave the prisoners there and turn the keys over to Raul.

TCM it is indeed an honor to be insulted by you. I find it funny to think that you talk about Black folks, KFC and Hanging all in one post. Last time I checked there were more KFC in Meza then in Harlem so those 81% white trash must be greasing on some chicken also. Last, states show that the same demograph of blacks in jail exist in the white community, and that same percentage of white trash is in and out of jail also. Cheers!
