Meghan McCain tells GOP to get tech savvy

Meghan McCain says its time the GOP embraces technology.
Meghan McCain says its time the GOP embraces technology.

(CNN) - The Republican Party needs to change - at least when it comes to its use of technology, Meghan McCain says.

In a column on the Daily Beast Web site, the daughter of Sen. John McCain says the GOP is likely to continue its decline in power unless members vastly improve their tech fluency.

"This has been a source of personal frustration for me for a very long time," said McCain of the party's seeming disconnect with technology. "Unless the GOP evolves as the party that can successfully utilize the Web, we'll continue to lose influence"

McCain, who authored a popular blog on her father's Web site while he was running for president, also recounts early pushback from Republican strategists when she first sought to establish the Web site.

"Many of the established Republican strategists told me that young people would not visit my web site," she wrote. "I used to categorize many of the advisors in my father's campaign into one of two groups: those that 'respected' the Internet and those who didn't. It was a running line between me and my friends who worked on my site."

McCain also suggested the party's lack of online savvy greatly contributed to her father's defeat last November.

"The Obama administration understands that my generation spends most of its day on a laptop or a BlackBerry, and that using the Web is easy way to communicate their ideas to their constituents," she said. "Until the Republican Party joins the twenty-first century and learns how to use the Internet, its members will keep getting older and the youth of America will just keep logging on to the other side."

Several Republicans appear to have gotten the message. According to TweetCongress.org, more Republicans are now on the popular social networking site Twitter than are Democrats. And the recent election for the Republican Party Chairman heavily revolved around who was best positioned to modernize the party's use of technology.

Hey, Mister "Dems Done in 4" who the @%$# do you think you are?!?! The GOP is done for the next few decades! Who the #$@% do you think got us into this god$%#@ economic mess anyways?!?! And when you say that the dems have already done much of what M. McCain said they would do, what exactly are you implying?!?! McCain's only economic resolution was to cut taxes and not follow the liberal ideas of "tax and spend", so instead we can "borrow and spend" so as to run up the national debt even higher and drive us further into this economic @%#$hole!!!!! President Obama is doing his utmost to help everyone with the new stimulus plan!!! He's trying to get our car companies back to life to create jobs in the U.S. not China! Obama's trying to help every man woman and child who needs it with his tax distribution!!! When McCain calls the stimulus plan "generational theft" what the @#$% does he call the Bush Tax cuts and billions of dollars we've already WASTED in "Iraqistan"!!!!!!!!!! I rest my case.

Honestly, this is smartest thing I've heard any Republican say since the elections.....and I am a democrat but not afraid to give credit where it's due.

Thank you Meghan for being honest with yourself before anything

Keep in mind, being tech savvy is just being more efficient in spreading the Republican disconnect with American youth....

It is still the smartest thing I've heard from a Republican nonetheless....doesn't say much about what they've been saying

Oh Megan, don't you see that you are being used? Core values come
first, living them comes second and way way down the GOP's
list is technology. GOPs are a bunch of angry old people and haters of change. Start there...change is good...it will bring success. Give the rest of America suggestions for change and not excuses and negativity.

Being out of step with technology is the least of the GOP's worries. They are out of step with the American people. Yet in their ignorance, and arrogance, they continue down the same path. I guess that's part and parcel of "conservative" – not only afraid to veer off the beaten path but inable to even see it as an option.

But computers aren't in the Bible!

The Republican Party embracing technology is about as likely as these same people accepting science.

Ha ha, when the party consists primarily of racist old white guys who think that tax cuts for billionaires are the cure for everything, that the Earth is 6000 years old, and that global warming is a scientific conspiracy it is not surprising that their views are not getting traction. Stupidity dispersed by any technology is still stupidity.

My uncle lost his job because of the GOP. If there is anything worse than listening to your aunt's quavery voice over the phone when you next hear from her, she trying to stay off the subject, I've not yet experienced it. What they need NOW is hope. This is something John McCain never promised or even mentioned. It wasn't lack of tech savvy that lost him the election, it was his inability to inspire the American initiative that is in all of us. It was that he was unable to list what he will do to help the American people. It was that he lost his dignity when running against George W. Bush. Megan McCain read this post.

Maybe because the repubilcans are a bunch of lying, corrupt
losers, and as dumb as they come, they could never figure
out technology. Look what they did with intelligence and the
WMD's, does that even look intelligent with. you. We're in
this mess because they couldn't organize a rock fight, or
keep this country afloat. What jerks!!!
