A PAC is out with a new ad against the stimulus bill.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – A conservative organization launched a national television ad Friday criticizing the $787 billion stimulus bill, and called into question one of President Obama’s main campaign promises to bring change to Washington.

The American Issues Project uses points of historical reference to show how $787 billion could stretch over time from the birth of Jesus to the current day.

“Suppose you spent one million every single day starting from the day Jesus was born and kept spending through today,” an announcer says as images of the three wise men, the Roman Coliseum, the Mona Lisa and other historic landmarks flash across the screen. A million dollars a day for more than 2,000 years. You would still have spent less money than Congress just did.”

The ad also criticizes millions of dollars in earmarks in the legislation, saying that money was allocated for golf carts, fish hatcheries and remodeled federal offices. The ad also shows a video snippet of Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, on the Senate floor saying the American people don’t care about “little tiny, yes, porky amendments.”

It closes by asking, “Is this change you can believe in?”

The organization said it will spend nearly $1 million on the ad that is scheduled to run on CNN, CNN Headline News, FOX News CNBC and FOX Business Network.

Democrats concerned about spending??

PLEASE!!

Wasn't it Jesus who said not to throw pearls before swine?

Nette   February 20th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Grew Up America,
Give this man a chance to make the changes. I can't happen over night and it will not happen in 1 year. It is like gaining weight, you can put it on fast (8 years and no one complained). Now to make this work we are going to have to take the weight off slowly, if we rush we will only mask the problem and never get out of this mess. So slow down thank whatever you believe in and enjoy your life. It is hard but we are all still here and alive.

Maggie from Virginia   February 20th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Still using the Lord's name in vain. I guess they haven't learned their lesson yet. I thought they got the message when the prayer for rain on the democrats convention backfired.

"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." – Exodus 20:7

What I don't understand is how every body is criticizing President Obama's stimulus plan, yet no body has another plan?!?! So we are just supposed to let this crisis work itself out ? The bottom line is that Bush messed this country up for his personal benefit and the whole world is suffering. So before we actually do have another "Great Depression" We need to get the economy up and running. At least we know that Obama is thinking about the American people unlike our last president, yet Bush rarely ever had these types of issues with Congress. In my opinion, he has done far more outrageous things while in office. Not to mention that we been at war for 6 years now and we still haven't found Bin Laden, or have we forgot about him?? Why are we really over in the Mid east anyways, first it was Iraq was where "terrorism" was, then it was Iran, then Pakistan, now their in the hills of Afghanistan.. Do we really know where the real threat is??

Shari, NY   February 20th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

If they want to inject time spans into this I suggest they use BC or AD and leave out sacred names.

susan   February 20th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

GOP needs to resurrect themselves out of this mess not by mid-slinging but by soul-searching. Where were their concerns when we spent billions of dollars in Iraq and when we gave billions of dollars to banks and Wallstreet firms with no oversight? They have concerns when the money helps common man but they have issues when the money was doled out to their rich fat cats.

What a bunch of crock. The Iraq war during which we invaded
a country that was not a threat to us, killed tens of thousanda
of Iraqis and thousanda of Americans, got embroiled in a n-win
situation that has cost us close to a trilion dollars WASTED
and that was supported by the same Idiot republicans
who're now criticizing this plan which was created during an
economic downturn that few alive have see. It was their moronic
"no regulation" mantra that allowed greedy financiers to take
risks that have put us in this situation. Go away!

1 month after taking office, Pres Obama has passed a bill to get something moving. Anything changing what's happened in our country in the last 2 years is an improvement over what we've seen out of the last administration for the last 8 years. And still people dare to complain. Oh, people of little faith.

If nothing changes, nothing changes. At least there's action going on. Patience and faith. Good job for a month after seeing nothing for years.

Katherine E Golemi   February 20th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

jj   February 20th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Let me think what could you spend that million dollars on besides an add slaming our government?? I could use some help paying my bills as could millions of others, oh yeah maybe you could hire 20 out of work Americans and pay them 50,000. a year for a year, but no you want to blow it all on an add that is complaining about something that is already a done deal. And you want to tell someone how to run the country???? I'll take the stimulas, that is at least going to make some jobs!!

There is still the continuous blame of others for the current problems. Did the demos just start getting the facts that there is a problem?? Don't they realize most of this came from the housing . . . the demos wanting to provide houses for the low income . . . even thought they did not have ability to earn a reasonable wage. Even though welfare pays enough, it doesn't provide for expensive houses.

jacksonville   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

What can you say about the Republican party; other than they believe in their minds, that nothing is done right or even has a chance of success unless they do it. I am so tied of these people who complaint and criticize others who at least try and willing to get the economy bad on track. Whether the stimulus is successful or not; at least some effort has been put forward by people with common sense. It's the Republican party that has put the country in this mess and now their criticing the effort. Get a life. Better yet; get on board because the train is moving forward. We the people that support the new administration do not expect an overnight success. But this administration will be a success. I look forward to campaign much harder this administration. "Yes we can, Yes we will". No doubt about it. President Obama will have our support again. Him and his administration.

Amius   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

They have to be right wing Republican hacks. The Republicans are acting just like they did with Franklin Roosevelt during the Great Depression...they are constantly repeating a one-word mantra, "No." They were categorically wrong then and they are now. Monetary policies and tax refunds for the wealthy have not worked. The only choice left is for government to intervene with massive spending. The Grand Old Party just doesn't get that. They had their chance and failed miserably. Now, it's probably going to be years before they are back in power.

b   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Well, they just spent $1 million on this pointless ad which does nothing for anyone.

Anonymous   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

what a waste of money making this Ad!

Reggie   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

It is so sad that the die-hard LEFT actually has the audacity to criticize President Obama just 30 days into his presidency! He has to try and fix problems that have been compounded over the past 8 years during the Bush years, as well as a political climate that has existed in Washington for over 100 years. Does anyone truly believe that in 30 days they would see any major changes to all of that? Instead of throwing rocks at his ideas, these folks should be trying to HELP! They complain that they aren't included simply because they can no longer dictate policy.

R   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

yet spending for a nonsensical ad is ok. I just don't understand why some want this bill to fail. Not liking it is fine but wanting it to fail is just stupid

Dana from NY   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Ironically if Jesus was anything- he was a Socialist! Go figure, so typical of Republicans to once again use Jesus and God in vain to further push their own beliefs- so far from the beliefs of Jesus its unrecognizeable! Disgusting!

Emjay   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Barack is trying to get us out of this mess, he didn't create this. Bush did. So don't blame the man for trying drastically to get us out of this tailspin. Give the stimulus time to pass or fail. He deserves that much at least.

Dan, New York   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Corey, where in the article does it say republican? Conservative and republican are not the same, just like socialists and democrats are not the same. 40% of Americans opposed to the stimulus mainly because of these 'little porky ammendments' is not a new low. Oh, and i hope that someone did the math, cause if 4 million jobs are made with this stimulus, each job is for about 180000 dollars. I hope the gov't knows what its doing...

Jane (Minnesota)   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I would like to see this conservative "Expert" who came up with this ridiculous thing also try to timeline what went on during the Bush 43 era..........Cutting Taxes (mainly for a small portion of the population) while funding 2 new wars & not trimming the federal budget during that time. Let's see that one, Conservatives! That doesn't sound like conservative practice either!

James, Phoenix AZ   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

The war in Iraq and Afghanistan, started by Republicans, cost more. Why is that not mentioned?

Rob   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Not justifying the ad, but the article title is misleading. The ad used the birth of Jesus simply as a reference point in time, the same way it used other events/objects/people through time like the Coliseum and Mona Lisa. Not that I'm shocked, but the article headline blows something out of proportion as always. It would have the same relevancy if it was headlined "Anti-stimulus ad uses Mona Lisa"

Gabriel   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE – During the United States presidential election, 2008, it became known for commercials linking Barack Obama to former Weather Underground founder William Ayers.[2] The group has received substantial media attention.[3][4]

The AIP was co-founded by Republican political activists Tony Feather (also a co-founder of the Republican 527 group Progress for America) and Chris LaCivita. [5] [2]

Funding for AIP, which spent close to $3 million for the Ayers ads, is provided by Harold Simmons, who previously gave $3 million to fund Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and another $500,000 to Progress for America. [6]

.........pathetic........

boered1   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

and now for the rest of the story.. suppose you took the money LOST every day since the economy started its collapse in November of 2007 and added it up and then followed the republican plan of doing nothing and hoping that big business would, out of the kindness of their hearts, start hiring all the millions of people they laid off so they could record record profits for the wealthy who ahve invested on Wall Street and took that total you would find it is ALREADY ALMOST THREE TIMES the amount President Obama has agreed to spend to try to stop the decline of our economy. Now ask yourself, should we continue on following the republican plan of prayer and faith in big business or should we try to stop it?

Carl, Yucaipa   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

How much does it cost to buy a front page Republican anti-Obama advertisement masquerading as a new story on CNN? I guess $1 million. Where’s the ad for the $598,580,407,696, and growing by the second, Republicans have jubilantly squandered on the Iraq War with absolutely nothing to show for it except a more powerful Iran. When will the confederacy of “red state” dunces realize it’s okay to spend money on America which will directly benefit them in so many, many ways.

Rob   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

It graves me to see how hateful we have become just because someone wants to help his fellow man. I quess if the President did nothing than all those who are opposed would be satisfied. Why are we evening calling this a failure before we see if it works or not. Would all those who critize this plan be content if this country just go down the tubes. Do the realize if this country fails we all will be hurt by it. Give the plan a chance, it might just be what we need at this difficult time. Presidenat Obama did not create this mess. He is only trying to fix it the best he can. I don't think John McCain could have done any better if he was in this position. This is a tough job for anyone in that position. We need to stop this and pray for the man in this position. Give him some incouragement and bash him on everything he tries to do to help you and me. When we speak failure, we are speaking this into the atmospher and it will come to pass. Be careful what you say. my people. God is listing, and he will give you the deserves of your heart. If this is not the President you want, then you will get what you ask for and God us what that President will do. I promise you it will not be pleasant. Take it from scripture.

Bob in Pa   February 20th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Do you really think this is Republicains vs Democrats ? This is just the plain old truth about something that shouldn't have been done.

This stimulus bill should be brought back to the floor and torn apart into seperate pieces of legislation and dealt with on the merrits of each item, up or down votes.

Atlanta, GA   February 20th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Well, gosh, gee, guys! If you are going to make outrageous assertions like the ones in your ad, shouldn't you also mention that your guy came into office with a budget surplus, yet after eight years of no-bid contracts to his oil industry buddies, tax cuts to the wealthy, and launching an ill-conceived war in which thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis lost their lives, not to mention the $1 TRILLION cost of the war, we now find ourselves in the difficult financial straits we face?

Conservatives' battle against the Dem plan seems like they are faced with ugly demons. Their holier-than-thou and know-it-all attitudes may rile up plenty of illwill and deadly dudgeon among their liberal foes leading to more pitched and fiercely argumentative fights. Whether or not it crosses the line of constructive criticism will, certainly, be keenly watched with nervously negative notions, by the populace.

Invoking the Almighty's name for the purpose of spreadin' their less clearly founded and understood beliefs, and tenets of conservatism, might be viewed with considerably less gusto by the opponents. We may have to have recourse to well recognized and authoritative references in these matters of immense and intense ideations, if there are any.

shucks   February 20th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

And they wonder why people are hating christians more and more and more every day. They are becoming the most hateful group in America and until Christians start speaking out against this kind of rhetoric I will continue to lump them into one solitary mindless group. It is their responsibility to speak out against these kind of religious oriented commercials that incite division and animosity. In not doing so they are actually worse than the idiots who dream up these things. Your "god" would not be pleased, unless he has changed drastically since I went to Catholic school.

Emjay   February 20th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

This is entirely unfair!!! Instead of looking at the massive amount of money that Congress just spent in an attempt to restore our economy, we should remember that drastic measures like this one wouldn't be needed if our previous president hadn't placed us all in this tailspin in the first place. Remember, Barack didn't put us in this predicament, and we can't blame the man for trying his best to get us out of this mess. Give the stimulus time to pass or fail. Everyone deserves that much.

"He says it's not fair to compare the current economic crisis to the Great Depression, because the federal government was far more passive in the 1920s."

Thank you, thank you! And for the record, what happen in 1873, we just got out of a war not even ten years and arguably one of the greatest President of all time( I love saying that). I cannot stress enough how the economy changed that day forward and how capitalism came to be. For crying out loud, the Union was a industrial place to live but the South, they were going another direction! I cannot stress how important that day was, economically and financially. I believe that is one of the most underrated events in our nations history, I cannot tell you how that day forward changed our lives forever...

And during FDR's time, they had it worse! Unemployment rate was at an all time high, people were literally poor, etc. You know, I've always said that FDR deserves a spot at Mt Rushmore, why?? People liked him, they appreciated him. He did so much for so few and that's right Dems are who we thought they were...

I can't stress enough our time now Vs those times, very utter similarities, very unpredictable events, etc. Now, is not about who's making the right decisions or who is right or who is smarter, look at what your capitalistic government did in the long run, thank the free market...

Could it be worse?? Ohh yeah, of course. And when we hear both political parties talk about who is right or wrong, we laugh at their face, why?? They think is a joke and I'm telling you now, it ain't no joke...ohh and one last thing, don't be noisy, please, don't be noisy because I GUARANTEE you on my grandma, I will talk to both parties again and say, "I told you so."

And I don't know if its us but whenever you use Jesus for capital gain or personal use, we not only think is blasphemous but disrespectful. Jesus doesn't want him to use him as a toy...and tell Conservatives don't go there with me.

Jeff   February 20th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Lets think of another comparison ...

Thus far we've spent about $600billion on the war in Iraq and have gotten nothing out of it. It's expected to reach over $1trillion by the time we leave

Congress is spending $800billion to create 3.5 million new jobs (which will then increase tax revenue), fix our crumbling infrastructure, and save us money in the future through programs like electronic medical records.

And which of these is the irresponsible spending that is going to bankrupt our children?

These people are idiots. I'm so sick and tired of their conservative scare tactics that have nothing to do with the issue. Who cares if $1 trillion stretches to the moon (or sun) and back or if you spent a penny a day you could've started spending back in the time of dinosaurs and still be spending today. It's just a vivid, yet stupid point that does not address the real issue. Where were all these people when Americans were lining up to spend a trillion dollars attacking a country (Iraq) that had never directly attacked us. Don't give me the bad intel business. It makes them seem heartless and more willing to spend money to unilaterally attack people or countries who bother them than they are willing to spend money to help a neighbor or even a relative or just an average American.

The bottom line is, they want to be critical and can't really figure out how so they show pictures or make comparisons that are truly meaningless. I really hope the right gets their act together and starts making some sense. It's important to have contrary opinions that are well-reasoned and not sensational imagery. They better step it up because I would guess this kind of rhetoric will lose them another election in 2010, while we're still blowing through that million dollars a day.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. If this organization wasn't so far to the right, they could see how wasteful this ad is. $1million on an ad. Why not take that money and help people stay in their homes?
Why not buy school supplies for schools in need?
Why not stock some food banks that are running low?
Why not help soldiers coming home from war get their lives back?
Why not donate that money to a school district, or a boys/girls club?
Oh I forgot. The far right only care about themselves and the wealthy.

damned if you do damned if u dont   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Cool, you made an ad AFTER something was passed. So the purpose would be to.... what, piss people off? Not seeing why these idiots spent $1 million on a commercial for something that already happened. THAT IS WHAT I CALL A BIG WASTE OF MONEY!

What would they rather we do? Spend that money for a time machine and go back 2,000 and ask Jesus what to do? Maybe give all the money to Sean Hannity and let him rule the world?

the 'Conservative' organizations are the ones who have totally %$*@ this country up for the last 8 years with thier archaic old-world view and cant get thier head out of thier own a$$ets to see maybe they should shut the hell up and let the grown ups handle things for a while.

Bush misused economic tools to create a false boom in housing to avoid a normal part of the business cycle - a minor downturn – so he could get reelected. His $3 trillion tax cut gave an average $700,000 ONLY to wealthy Americans - a massive 'redistribution of wealth' away from the middle class. Congressional Dems also voted for it. That CREATED the world-wide catastrophe. Also, Clinton’s repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act permitted creation of companies "too big to fail" that then did fail.
Those who loved the trillion dollar bailout of the super-wealthy last fall now deride any help for the working-class.
Billionaires DON'T start small businesses, they BUY huge corporations using borrowed money, then fire tens of thousands of middle-class workers to pay off the debt. Americans have to stop falling for Republican rhetoric that claims no small businesses will be created if billionaires have to pay their fair share of income taxes.
In truth, who those who benefit most from America's capitalist system pay progressive tax rates, the money creates wealth for the middle class, which ultimately goes right back into the hands of those who own businesses. But all get to participate. When the GOP stops that natural cycle the middle-class are cut out of the cycle and the WHEELS STOP TURNING, which is precisely where we are right now.
It doesn't take an economist to see that when 99.5% of the people are not allowed to benefit from the system their labor pushes along, then they must stop pushing at some point. Why? When they don't benefit they can't eat or have a place to live, which kills their ability to work. Beyond that, they lose interest in bearing all the burden without getting any of the rewards.

aqualynlaury   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Say what you will about the stimulus bill –
It's sad that "today's vocals" didn't have much to say over the past 8 years.

How quickly some are to speak on the month +1 anniversary of change – a PROCESS that rarely occurs in one month. "What a prudent use of the funds noted for the ad and any similar commentary," remark a subset of today's vocals. How absolutely PRUDENT.

Rick Beagle   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

So, this group wraps up their rhetoric in religion and patriotism? Here is a thought, why don't you spend your money telling us how to fix our issues, or better yet, spend that $1M on families that have been destroyed by the policies of the last eight years....

Just a thought.
Rick Beagle

Conservatives sucks!!!!!!   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Conservatives are the scum of the earth and if it's not their crazy way there is no way.. Repugs just shut up because no one really cares what you think of feel.... dummies

Ben   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

It is amazing that this type of thing hits the air so fast, but no other plans have been offered..... it's clear that the GOP knows how to work fast, but lets get focused on the problem and stop all this crap. If you want to know what the American people are sick of, and want changed, it's the divisive politics that drive people away from the idea that we can be a great nation. I am sick of the negative adds, comments, and ideas coming from the GOP. GIVE US SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN!!! Thats the change that I believe in, and that doesn't come over night.

Zoe   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the early Christians believed in communal property. This is a deceptive and unproductive tactic. I'd call it surprising, if I didn't expect this and more from our obstructionist friends on the Right.

Ben   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Really? Is this what is has come down to? The GOP pounding on the religious imagery to oppose the stimulus simply because they have no other ideas? This is a sorry state of affairs. First – it is time to renew the whole concept of separation of church and state; second, if you oppose the stimulus, please come up with an articulate reason why (don't just froth at the mouth and yell inarticulate blather) and lastly, stop being so partisan and just act like grown-ups, come to the table, work things out and compromise. We are all in this together – stop being so flagrantly crazy.

Frank B   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Tony please speak english? Secondly the economy will NOT fix itself. Something has to be done.

Mike Urciolo   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Jesus Christ Himself could appear before the world and say, "Obama is my chosen representative" and the conservatives would still complain. I don't know about the rest of you, but I gave President Bush more than five weeks before I gave up on him.

Molly Weasley   February 20th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

The GOP has no shame. Let them waste their money - it's not doing them any good anyway.

Ryan   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Tony,

It's called an education. Look into it. And while you're at it, trying cracking open a book on grammar and sentence structure. You only embarrass yourself.

Pat in IL   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

These people are operating on a middle school level of intelligence. These ads are so ridiculous, I doubt many people will pay any attention to them – what a waste of money and air time.

Ryan, Sacramento   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

It says something that 60% of Americans believe that the Stimulus was a good thing, even though 60% of Americans don't believe that the Stimulus will benefit them personally. Now, the 60% in both stats doesn't cover the same population of people, but it gives me hope that there are those out there that care more about the greater good than themselves.

As for these Repulican attack ads...you can kiss my you-know-what. You got the $50M for the NEA taken out, even though the NEA benefits 3.5 million workers (not a small number) and funds programs like PBS (which your kids watch). And for this rambling idiot below me named "Tony", learn how to use correct grammar. Or did the big bad Government cut funding to your school too?

MDM-Real VA   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Wow .. It is amazing how the Republicans are using my Savior, Jesus Christ in vain. It is vain for them to assume that Jesus only belongs to them. The irony of President Obama is that he is by far acting more Christ Like than any political figure we have seen in the last two decades.

You do not see Obama bashing other people because of "Differences"

You do not see Obama saying one group is better than another group.

You see Obama trying to help those that are less fortunate.

The Wealthy right have convinced the average right that Obama is not a Christian and Evil, to the determent of their ability to see that as a nation we are as strong as our weakest/poorest.

When we fail to educate, provide health care, feed and clothe those less fortunate crime will escalate. Most people hurting now are not just welfate receipients... but people who have lost their jobs.

julie   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Oh my God...although "God" has nothing to do with it.....give the man a break......he has been in office....how many days? Not months or years......Time People....it took us how many YEARS to get where we are......people need to shut the pieholes and let the man do his job......

Alan   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

This should be compared with the cost of social services for everyone out of work and out of their homes if nothing (the GOP plan) was done.

Oh - wait - the GOP already has a plan for them. Let them starve.

When people lose their jobs they stop paying taxes. When people lose their homes they require social services just to survive. Subtract those costs from the stimulus bill and you still have enough money left over to lay million dollar bills end-to-end to the birth of Jesus.

A new low for the GOP indeed. If only they would leave the country since they're so unhappy.

Tiffanie   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

OMG...I can't believe a Senator was dumb enough to say in an economy such as this that we, as the american people, don't care about pork spending...This stimulus is supposed to be for us... not them and their pet projects... I support the stimulus whole heartedly, but I wish Obama would use a line item veto to get rid of the stupid stuff and re-allocate that money to the REAL PROJECTS

bing   February 20th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

chris   February 20th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Deborah, Detroit   February 20th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

The hypocrites! W. left this mess and now President Obama is trying to fix it. Where was this analogy when W. was running up the national debt? Not a word from the hypocrites.

Veteran in Kansas   February 20th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

This is not freedom of speech, it is anti-american propaganda aimed at attacking our elected governmental insitutions and the decisions that they are making in these trying times for no other reason than to do so. While such groups have the right to utter what ever they wish to, if they are not willing to particpate in the formulation of the solution and work with those trying to fix a economic melt down that has taken a number of years to bring about they need to be quite. I do not beleive continuous attacks against economic recovery programs will result in any thing but failure.

TAM   February 20th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

When Bush rallies the country and liberals complain, then we are labeled Anti-American. This crazy right wing religious group is more Anti-American than any of the liberal rhetoric while Bush and his bandits were in charge of this country. Hey, how about supporting your president????? And please be sure you write your congressman and governor to not accept any of the stimulus dollars in your state. Don't be hypocritical and accept even one dime of that money. Its win-win, you get to stand behind your principles and put your money where you mouths are and the rest of us get to share in the stimulus.

Christine   February 20th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Everyone was so quick to proclaim Obama as "Messiah" during the election. However, if you had done your research, you would have realized he is the ANITCHRIST!

Google: Obama would fail Security Clearance and read the article by Daniel Pipes

Google: Mysterious Shadow Code Name Obama and read the article from PRAVDA.

They are not religious articles, but they DO give a lot more of a background history on Osama-Bama than the Liberal media would have you know. Including: Why he has spent MORE THAN $500,000 to suppress his REAL birth certificate, the THREE DIFFERENT LAST NAMES HE HAS GOTTEN MARRIED WITH AND USED DURING HIS LIFE, why he STILL REFUSES to disclose his thesis papers from college(among other documents, and passports), and NAMES NAMES OF AT LEAST SEVEN RADICAL MUSLIMS WHO WORKED FOR HIM AND STILL DO AND THEIR AFFILIATIONS WITH HAMAS AND HEZBOLLAH AND THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN FUNDS CONTRIBUTED BY RADICAL MUSLIMS.
Including the man who cut the ribbon to Obama's Philadelphia Campaign HQ WHO has been buying up large swaths of land in Philadelphia for years to build a MUSLIM ONLY RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD- HE HAS BEEN OBAMA'S 20 +YEAR BUSINESS PARTNER! Friends, this is only the beginning!

Spending less than 7% of GDP to grow it seems reasonable!

... so typical of the the right wing nut jobs to resort to ignorant scare tactics...

Very disappointed   February 20th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Why is it that the opposing political party must spend $1 million dollars and probably a sum more than that in labor to belittle the approved stimulus package? Why won't the opposing party put money and effort into moving something like this forward in a positive direction with the attempt to make improvements to it versus the standard negative approach to everything that is proposed? Let's all just get along for the good of the Country to help the people who pay the salaries of these politicians?

Obama0812   February 20th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Tony you are a fucking idiot if Obama was a communist and a crook then you might as well say Franklin D. Roosevelt is a communist as well. Just because Obama is spending money in a stimulus package? Hello are economy is at a downfall here we need the money! Franklin D Roosevelt had to do the same thing to get us of the Great Depression by passing something called The New Deal. And from what I've seen the Stimulus Package is very New Dealish. So instead of criticizing the president for only having less than one month on the job how about you try to help our country instead of criticize! Maybe if more Americans were optimistic instead of pessimistic we wouldn't be in this mess! You call Obama a communist and a crook when its Bush who started this mess? Obama has less than one month on the job you need to be patient and stop being brainwashed by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh!

Fola Babalola   February 20th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

How many people has Obama killed so far, perhaps all you right wing ditto heads can look at lives lost as a meric.

I hate Texas   February 20th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

This goes back to my main critisim of organised religion. Most religious people don't think what would Jesus want me to do, they do what they want & say that's what Jesus wants. Religion is used by bad people to justify their bad actions! Without that justification these people would only have themselfs to blame!

What are you talking about   February 20th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Thats a cool fact but I got a better one. Bush added almost 12,000 years of debt if we spend $1,000,000 a day and he did that in only 8 years Ummmm me likey these facts

Sniffit   February 20th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

W.W.J.D?
(For you heathens out there, What Would Jesus Do?)

Well, if Jesus were here today he would believe in Kensian economic theory and say that the stimulus bill is too small and then he would ask why we would harken unto the devil which is supply side economics i. e. republican tax cuts.
And he would ask W.W.P.K.D?
(What would Paul Krugman do?_
(Paul Krugman is a Nobel Prize winning economist and someone I think we should listen to.)

This commercial would be perfect opprotunity to tell people what they would do to solve the problem (other than tax cuts, tax cuts don't work)

Carol   February 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Lost in lala land of awaiting moderation.........again...

And the point of spending 1,000,000.00 to criticize a bill that has already passed issssssss......................what?

Early start to the next round of elections in about 18 months. What happens if this stimulus bill does just that, stimulates the economy enough to slow down this recession and next year things actually start turning around.

Now won't you have egg on your face and you'll be a 1,000,000.00 lighter in the pocket.

Don't count your chickens just yet on this bailout failing........

Where were these critics while George W. Bush was in office for 8 years? Where were you? At least President Obama is trying to do something for the working people and not just for the Rich and Wall Street!
Republicans need to adjust to the New Way of Thinking and help our hard working class. Your time is over. So, don't try to prevent our New President from succeeding. It will NOT work!

Bronson   February 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Instead of spending an additional MILLION BUCKS on an ad why don't they put that money into their local communties? That is if they were really concerned.

DR   February 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

So they're spending nearly 1 million dollars to get this ad out? What purpose does this ad serve, other than to criticize? A million bucks could have bought a lot of grain to feed the hungry, starting from the day Jesus was born up until the present day, no?

If you don't like what's happening, go out and do something constructive to change it! Did the ad ask the viewers to not to accept their personal stimulus checks? I would have admired that protest.

Jesse of ATL   February 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Yet another nail in thier coffin! bye bye!

Cory   February 20th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Hilarious! Like the state of the economy is all Obama's fault, not the result of horrific political idiocy during the last decade.

Lesley   February 20th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Sounds like pork paid for the ad – excuse me – a million dollars for a negative ad? Someone remind the conservatives that the election is over. Their money would be better put to use helping to provide jobs and improve education through school programs.

Gene   February 20th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Go figured, leave it to the Republicans to whine and complain about anything and everything. I believe it was GWB, one of YOUR OWN, that first started this continuous downward spiral. Obama has been President for not even two months and you Republicans are already saying he is "disappointing." Maybe if Bush wasn't too hell-bent WASTING TAX PAYER MONEY ON THE USELESS IRAQ WAR we would have enough to pull our country out of this mess. Complain all you want but Bush caused this so you have no reason to complain about how Obama is handeling it. The first stimulus package that Bush sent out went right to the CEO's and Execs first, hypocritical on the fact that Bush and everyone else said the bill would not go towards bailing out the "big whigs" of companies. This is why Republicans have gotten the boot and the Dems are in control, because they actually know what to do. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT LOST MONEY WHEN YOURE MAKING DUMB COMMERCIALS AND WASTING MONEY TRYING TO BAD TALK OUR NEW PRESIDENT.

AJ   February 20th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

They seem confused. Change you can believe in was McCain's slogan. Poor things....can't even get the president's message right. I doubt this fares well for their understanding of such a complicated bill.

Though we were seemingly united in electing change, some sectors of our great society are really out there to heed to derision and make this presidency fail. I will tend to agree to the US Atty. General when he comments that this country is a country of cowards simply because of this - instead of US holding hands and moving forward, some of us tend to be crabs and pull others down. Sad SAD Sad. It only goes to show that we, as humans, are really very had to please.

If distractions came in the form of horse manure...

And if your television could deposit a ton of horse manure every day on your living room carpet...

And if your television started depositing a ton of horse manure every day, starting from a bronze-age evening that is generally regarded by religious organizations as the day of the birth of their religious icon...

And if this continued for 2000 years...

Then that's how much of a distraction is in this commercial.

Ty   February 20th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

First you have to believe that "jesus" is real........
Funny how nobody had issue when we were rebuilding Iraq's infrastructure, but now that we are focusing on getting our people jobs and work, everyone has problems with the bill.

TexasIndependent   February 20th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

The auto makers had to provide a "viable" business model to the government in order to get bailout money. Ha, that's funny. I think we should demand a viable business model from the government before they get our tax dollars.

Oh wait, but we elect our government officials.

When the country is broke (that's now), then it's time to look in the mirror and ask ourselves why we wouldn't vote for responsible politicians. Instead we wanted "change", and "bipartisanship", and "unity". It's only rhetoric. We need somebody who can balance the budget and put together a plan to pull ourselves out of bankruptcy.

Signing stimulus checks and simply printing money is not leadership. Anyone notice that US bonds are getting cheaper and cheaper? It's only a matter of time before the government's credit rating gets downgraded.

Steph   February 20th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Yes, this is change we can believe it! It is a definite change from the do-nothing, regulate-nothing, you are on your own, it is your fault if you get screwed, wait for something will trickle down to you policies of the past 8 years! If the conservatives have a better idea they should have tried it when they had their chance. It is now time for them to shut up and let someone else fix their mess for the good of the country.

I am so sick of the complaining and whining from the conservatives who got us in this mess and who have no good ideas of their own.

Joan , Ontario   February 20th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

The Bush administration spent that much money on an illegal, immoral war in Iraq where thousands have been killed and hundreds of thousands of people injured and it put your country in an economic downspin. Would Jesus have approved of that? At least this money is going to help people in your own country.

James Patt   February 20th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

How much money per day would that be – given the money wasted bombing Iraq>

The lonely Libertarian of Liverpool   February 20th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

I love it! We need to educate the American taxpayer that we are being taken, our Governemnt is running the biggest con game in the history of human kind. Bailout the rich and leave the bill to the working American taxpayer......

Cynthia; Bham   February 20th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

What everyone must realize is that President Obama did not create this mess – he inherited it when he became President. This country has been in trouble for a while – I didn't see them making commericals about former President Bush. At least give the President a chance to try and clean up what someone else messed up.

m.e.   February 20th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Isn't running that negative ad on Fox preaching to the choir?

No more Tired old Politics   February 20th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Funny I didn't see this ad when they rushed approval for the bank bailout. At least this bailout is about the people not the selected few that kick some of those dollars back to the Grand Ole Party. I guess we really know who is in it for the people and who is in it for their own sel interests.

Douglas Christopher   February 20th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

I'm suprised that only "critics" get this. What a great ad.

Road to recovery   February 20th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Idiots, Someone tell these blood sucking animals that scare tactic is over. Bush is gone, save your money for the time when the American people come after you and take you down for all the scandal that is hurting American People. If Jesus was here all you idiots Conservative will be burning in hell by now. Don't worry he is not here, but you will see him soon enough. Look what you have done to us, you idiot conservative, everyday we work harder and pray we don't get lay off today. I pray and hope for only a week you all leave like us, who need work and money to survive day to day, so you can taste the shit you all put us in. Shame on you, i pray one day your kids spit on your face or grave and complain of the shity life you have put them through. Long live those who actually care about people and their problems.

Felonious Monk   February 20th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Let's compare government spending to Jesus. Wow, what a bunch of Bologna. If I remember correctly, W is an Evangelical who believesGod speaks directly to him. This is nuts!

You would think that as far as science and technology have advanced the human race we could get beyond superstition!!! There are so many gods, isn't that some sort of clue?
This is just such an incredibly naive stance to take. What would Jesus do? More importantly, what would Elvis do? If in 2000 years people are worshipping Elvis will that help mankind get past superstition?
Did The American Issues Project tithe ten percent of the million dollars they are spending? What would Alfred Hitchcock do? What would Liono of the Thundercats do? What would Speed Racer do? How about Popeye, what do you think Popeye would do? What would Garfield do?
What would Jesus do with a million dollars? Jesus was a carpenter you know, not an accountant.

arivera   February 20th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

These are the same people that have nearly destroyed the country. The only people that are listening to you are extreme right wingers so you know where you can put your hate and your opinions.

NW   February 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

What abou Captain Kirk?

BobH   February 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

The ad is simple-minded and misleading. When the government did NOT step in and prop up banks in the early fall, the stock market crashed, loans were defaulted on, and the American people lost even more money than is in the stimulus bill.

In that case, we got NOTHING. It just all went down the toilet. But the advertisement doesn't mention that half of the equation.

The money in the stimulus bill may prevent a further crash, and will also improve the country's education and infrastructure, while providing millions of jobs.

Yes we WILL have to pay for it later. And it's not guaranteed to fix the economy. But it's better than the alternative.

JodiM   February 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Lets try this visual math with the amount W. ran up the national deficit during his 8 years in office – , Hmmm, looks like we'd have enough left over at the end to pay for all of Obama's stimulas package – several times over!!!!

Jon   February 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

My question for these people is, do they have a better idea?

It's one thing to attack the ideas of others, but unless I see these individuals coming up with their own ideas I say their arguments carry very little weight.

JD   February 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Let see, Bush and congress spent that and 4000+ lives, 40,000 wounded, and how many 100's of thousands families hosed because of multiple deployments and that all in 7 years.

MADSALL   February 20th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

I am rather sure my comments will not get posted because they rarely are, but I just want to point out to all voters to Hear this and hear it good. These Right wingers are doing nothing more than campaigning for the next election. They will never agree with anything President Obama does. They will not give anything a chance to work. My God the Man just got into the White House. This was the product of an eight year disaster by former President Bush.. Where and what were the Republicans screaming and hollering when this country was going into this mess. They are the most pathetic group I have ever witness. God forbid they ever get back in control.

Praying for President Obama

rockturner   February 20th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

He is bringing change.
What are you expecting everything to be guilded ?

he is working with Republicans, who for the most part, will
stop at nothing to make him look bad.

Just look at how the GOP reacted to the three Republicans who voted for the bill. They are vowing to run them out of office.

Sounds more like an good ol boy lynch mob, then a respected
and publically voted for, group of leaders.

What angers me, is that the Republicans want to maintain the status quo. this is the same status quo that approved of the Bankers bad
behavior.

I believe in the President. And you should too.

Canadian soccer mom   February 20th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

So transparent and so old. When will they come out with fresh ideas of their own?

Corbett   February 20th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

I agree. Jesus would be against the government trying to help out people who have lost their jobs. He would definitely all about rich people getting more tax cuts.

brian mancinelli   February 20th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

I think they could accomplish a great deal more by using that million dollars to feed some hungry people.

Lilarose, Bandon, Oregon   February 20th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Fortunately, most viewers of CNN are too intelligent to believe this trash talk.

Especially our young bloggers–very smart!

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   February 20th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Aks yourself, WWJD (what would Jesus [or your deity of choice] do) about the recession, the auto companies, the banks, the war in Afghanistan and other current issues facing The One and His Peops.

Mobius   February 20th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Holy Depression, Batman!

Desmond Sequeira   February 20th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Petty, Negative and Fear-mongering – these small-minded people will be dragged kicking and screaming out of the mess that their folks got us into in the first place

Corey, Maryland   February 20th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

And the Republicans hit a new low.......... real shocker.

Jason   February 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

I'd like to hear the inflation adjusted estimate on this please...

Harry   February 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Where was The American Issues Project for the last 8 years as conservatives drove this country into the dirt? The last thing they want is "change." They want to continue the policies of the last 8 years because evidently there is still some money left in the middle and lower classes that they want to give to the rich.

Jan Illinois   February 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Interesting but tell us something we don't know. the money that the ad cost to slam a man who just took office, and inherited this mess from the Bush administration could have been well spent on any other cause.

Kathy in Michigan   February 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Where were the GOP's Concerns with WWJD when they spent Trillions in a war against people who didn't attack us????

Kevin in Ohio   February 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

100% on Target!. The American people DO care about the pork that was stuffed in to this bill. Had there been no pork, it would have even had my support. Schumer is, not surprisingly, out of touch with reality.

Laura   February 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

So I guess we should have just done nothing....damned if ya do, damned if ya don't...

DB   February 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Just think how many people could have been fed with that $1 million. Sad :(

Eddie B.   February 20th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

It amazes me that these conservative groups and Republican leaders are so vocal about the economy and the President's steps to assist in rectifying this situation in one month. Where were these people when Bush was driving this country to where it is today? I do not remember a single Republican nor conservative group ever being vocal about him. Not even right up to when he left office and was doing nothing.

In one month to the day, Barack has done more in office than I have ever seen any other President do. These people clearly are more concerned about having Barack fail than helping this country. Limbaugh clearly stated that. This is unpatriotic!!!

DB   February 20th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Oh please, this is so ridiculous. Talk about money that could have gone to better use. A million dollars would feed a lot of people.

DB   February 20th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Oh please, this is so ridiculous. Talk about money that could have gone to better use. A million dollars would feed a lot of people.

Q   February 20th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Are you serious? This is news? Who cares if Jesus is "mentioned?"

babs from Denver   February 20th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Looks like that fringe element on the right is still going after the religious vote. I mean, really, didn't they learn that this type of politics didn't work for them in 2006 and 2008?

DB   February 20th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Oh please, this is so ridiculous. Talk about money that could have gone to better use. A million dollars would feed a lot of people.

Spencer/Bad Newz, VA   February 20th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

How low can the GOP go? They just don't learn. The way they approach the American public about issues is what pushes most people away. They love to instill fear, hate and divisiveness. The Karl Rove days are over GOP. Shape up or ship out. And it is very shameful that you have to use religion to make a political point.

Aleister   February 20th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Well, Jesus was a community organizer, RIGHT?

mkn   February 20th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Why do these people feel the need to invoke the "Jesus" card and attempt to somehow paint those who disagree as the scum of the earth? Are they really so full of themselves that they think running and ad with Jesus in it makes them right?
Even Jesus would have a problem with that kind of thinking.

Had It   February 20th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

But - But - But - aren't republican mayors and governors taking some of it??? And failed mortgages? Any republicans with failed mortgages?

Dace Tucson AZ   February 20th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Is there no depth that the right wing hate machine will not insult all the Jesus stand for? And it is not their narrow judgemental hate filed agenda using him as a weapon – truly vile! It seems the election has brought about a complete break down in the far right white hood zealot factions that run the GOP.

thersa   February 20th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

The Iraq war cost more.

The dude   February 20th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

great ad. support the stim or not it tells a story. I wonder where Jesus was when Congress and the Bush admin. did the same thing.

George the Democrat Obama fanatic.   February 20th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Why are they paying for a commercial to critic a bill that has already passed???
