Illinois Dem says Burris must go

Rep. Hare wants Burris to resign.
Rep. Hare wants Burris to resign.

(CNN) - Illinois Rep. Phil Hare, a Democrat, has had enough of the negative press coverage of his state, and says it's time Sen. Roland Burris resign his seat.

In an interview with CNN, the Democratic congressman flatly said he does not believe Burris' claims of doing nothing improper to gain the appointment of President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.

"I think Roland actively wanted this job," Hare said on CNN's American Morning. "I think he went out and tried to do everything he could to get the job but most importantly, he was under oath, and three times before this impeachment panel he was asked and he denied all three times that he had any contact, never raised any money.

"He may not have given the governor a single dime, but it wasn't because he didn't try," Hare also said.

Ultimately, Hare said, Burris has become a distraction when the state needs to focus on its economic woes.

"We should be focusing trying to keep people in their homes. We just passed a stimulus bill. We should be doing the work of the people here," he said. "Now we're tied up again with an ethics investigation, the state's attorney looking at possible perjury charges."

Hare's comments come two days after the Chicago Tribune also called on Burris to step down.

Burris has said he did nothing wrong to secure the Senate seat and given no indication he will resign.

B-Rod knew that Roland Burris was desperate to be a senator when he picked him. Roland was the one flunky that would continue to decieve the people of Illinois like B-Rod. B-Rod didn't take his office or the people seriously, and neither does Roland.

When will they learn that elected officials are supposed to serve the people, not themselves. I have complete confidence in the people and I know they will make it right soon.

Some give this poor congressman a coffee. That image looks awful. Yeah, and by the way, Burris ought to resign if he has a shred of dignity.

I think that in order to get rid of Mr. Burris you are going to have to drag him out kicking and screaming. He is such a sleaze.

My condolences to Mr. Burris on his broken arm. He did it by patting himself on the back so many times for being a fine upstanding person with impecable qualifications and a spot free squeeky clean record. Goodness, can he walk on water too??? Please get this bozo out now!! He is further making a laughing stock of the state of Ill.

Burris did absolutely nothing wrong. How in the hell can one man be punished for another man's behavior? This country has looked the other way for George Bush, Cheney, and Carl Rove. Rove won't even show up for court. Leave Burris alone. The man's record is squeaky clean. Burris should fight until the end. It is time to worry about important issues.

The Ilinois Senate and House of Representatives should submit their resignations for years of lying to, and misrepresenting the citizens of Illinois.

I think the majority of people posting earlier about Burris before being allowed to be sworn in were against it. Feeling it wasnt right for his nomination to be coming from a Gov who is being investigated by the FBI... but they did it anyways. Now here we are come full circle in this circus that he is now coming forward wilth information that just doesnt add up. Why didnt he say this before?? He didnt want to lose his seat in the Senate. Look how hard he fought for it. I think Burris is a greedy guy and a user and needs to resign. Simple as that!!

And to the RNC comments of Obama failing. That is just scare tatics, Republicans put us in this terrible mess to begin with and they are trying to stop the Dems from trying to fix it. They just dont want the Dems to get credit is all. But its already so far gone! Give it up!!

I believe Burris should no retire. Whether he asked for donations or no who cares. There is more important issues than donations. It should not be a crime to ask someone for a campaign donation and Burris didn't offer to buy the seat he was appointed. It also is not a crime to ask for the seat. What are we living in Russia? The democrats should get a grip on life and stick to the important issues like the economy and jobs not trifle donations. Of course the democrats want Burris to resign because Lisa Madigan wants that seat so her father can run for attorney general. The democrats nudged out Blago because Quinn wanted that job as governor. The who democratic organization is corrupt and we need to change it.

Roy: Burris can have anything he wants chisled on his masoleum. Who cares. He is a senator right now but the dumbo democrats want to push him out because they want their own crook in that seat. And believe me the democrat organization is the worst for corruption. Just ask Obama. How do you think he won that senate seat. It wouldn't surprise me that Acorn threw out ballots meant for McCain. No wonder Obama paid them $75,000. And this youth of today who don't have the brains to sit on or a window to throw them out of didn't know who was best to run this country and are now getting a good taste of it.

Burris is the only U.S black senator and have done nothing wrong. Calls for his resignation stems from racism, plan and simple. In this age of Obama, racist acts like these should not exist and totally inexcusable to all the offenders.

The Dems are hilarious. Why listen to them? Worst congress and we'll see about the prez. The alternative isn't much better with the neo-con takeover of the GOP. The joke called the two-party system goes on. Thanks military-industrial complex.

Virginnia: I live in Chicago, born and raised here and not every politican is corrupt. We have had excellent governors in Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar. If you think that about Burris you forgot to mention Obama is from Chicago and I know how he won that senate seat. Burris was appointed and the dumbo democrats who want Lisa Madigan in that seat and her father to run for Attorney General is the reason they are claiming corruption against Burris. Get a grip. This has been the worst democratic party in the history of politics. Pelosi, Durbin, Quinn and Reid should all lose in their next election. I am well aware of the fact that Blago got railroaded by Jessie Jackson, Jr. who is nowhere to be seen lately. Thank goodness Dean retired as DNC and I hope we never get another one like him. Good riddance.

If republicans were as vigilant when Tom Delay was gerymandering his way to republican control; and when George Bush was digging this graveyard fro America, we would not be in this mess. All politicians pay to play. Get real. Burris. Keep your seat. Be dragged kicking and screaming; but do not give it up!!

I hope that if prosecuter Fitzgerald has any taped revelations up his sleeve with Burris and Blago's brother that he will use them immediately to remove this slick cat from the Senate. No one wanted to offend this little old man with the childish voice, but he is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Out, out damn spot.....

Which law did Burris break? I say to Burris, "stay put"!! Let the self-righteous, crooked politicians knock themselves trying to convince us they are not crooks!

Burris will not resign. He learned from Blagojevich (sp?) and all the other corrupt Illinois politicians. He will wait until the most damage is done and he is forced out. All of the attention on him is detracting from the hard work that needs to be done to straighten out the economy.

Blago, Burris, and the entire Democratic leadership did the people of Illinois a huge disservice, and all quite probably without breaking any laws (regarding the Senate seat).
First, we have Blago. Among other things, he allegedly tried to sell a Senate Seat. After being arrested for those crimes, he has the bad taste to appoint someone who, even if it was Lincoln himself, would be suspected of some type of wrongdoing.
Second, we have Burris. Blago offered him a Senate seat, and Burris was rude enough to accept. So now Illinois has a Senator rendered ineffective due to a cloud of suspicion. Like Blago, he allegedly lies to his constituents, but, unlike Blago, probably did so without breaking any laws. But he effectively destroyed whatever political capitol he had, making him even more ineffective.
Lastly, we have Democratic leadership. The Dems allowed Blago the chance to appoint someone despite every indication that it would be a disaster for Illinois. Then they allowed Burris to have his seat, all in the name of ensuring a Democrat would fill the seat.
Basically, Blago looked out for Blago, Burris looked out for Burris, and the Dems looked out for the Dems. The people of Illinois need a Senator to reflect their interests, opinions, and concerns, and we have been cheated out of it because no politician (either party) actually cares.

Bottom line is that the Senate seat doesn't belong to Blago, Burris, or the Dems. It belongs to the people of Illinois, and we want it back.

Mari: If Burris is a crook how do you think Obama got to run for the senate? You should read more about your president. He railroaded the woman that recommended him to fill her seat under conditions because she was going to campaign and was getting her signatures ready. However, Obama decided to run against her and took her to court winning the battle. That's your doublcrossing president you voted into office who can't run this country without the help of the Clinton people. Get a grip and read up on politics more. And didn't he buy off Acorn to make sure thousands of ballots weren't counted.

joethedemocrat: You are out of your mind like the others who voted for Obama. He will never be able to fix the economy if he is president for eight years. Get a grip. He is no Bill Clinton, Reagan, FDR or Truman. Read more on politics and understand what your reading. Obama doesn't even have the experience to run this country let alone fix the economy. It was a good decision to choose Clinton's people because they are the one's who are giving him the advice on what to do and what not to say.

Lincoln rolled over in his grave because Burris is a crook,

but Burris will not resign or roll over because he will play the race card,

You want me out because I'm black and you are white.

    Just like we always hear.
