McConnell stops short of calling for Burris to resign

CNN

Watch McConnell on CNN's State of the Union.

(CNN) - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Sunday stopped short of calling on embattled Illinois Sen. Roland Burris to resign, saying he'll follow the recommendation of the Senate Ethics Committee.

"I think the Ethics Committee can work," the Kentucky Republican told CNN's John King on State of the Union. "I think in this particular instance, it ought to work quickly, and resolve these differences and make a recommendation to the full Senate."

News surfaced last week that Burris had spoken with impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's brother on more than one occasion about the possibility of raising money for the former governor before being appointed to his Senate seat.

The Senate Ethics Committee has launched a preliminary investigation into the matter.

Unfortunately, every sentence coming out from this person is always bias at all times! Having the guts to say that he hopes this government facing the deficit will sober up...well who have been drinking out of control for the past eight years! They are still looking for their voice and currently their voice uses the same rhetoric...notice I have not put any adjectives to this rhetoric since by default any adjectives can also be said about any opponent...and at this time the voice needed is the voice that unites citizens while using common sense values to get out of this mess and to not be afraid to prepare and face the future together...I guess that is why people voted for President Obama and that is why they still have tremendous confidence in their President!

Of course Sen. Burris was in bed with Blagojevich. Is there anyone out there who thinks Blagojevich would have appointed someone who wasn't? I totally disagree with this appointment being allowed and I am a die-hard liberal.

Hey Bruce! Politicians want gun control because they are afraid of insurrection? I just read this morning about an 11 year old child allegedly murdering a pregnant woman in her bed. He used a 20 gauge shotgun specifically designed for children. There is no legal requirement that these weapons even be registered.

Does your interpretation of the 2nd Amendment's well-armed malitia include children? Like the well armed malitia some are using in parts of Africa?

If your children have access to firearms, I hope you are behaving to their satisfaction.

I for one am much more worried about armed children than I am with armed overthrow of the government.

He withheld information and knew he was doing so...He in no way regardless of what he now says can cover that up...He is a liar, like all people in politics today...Kick him out and let him learn from his mistakes...

Funny how this man and others played the race card to get him into office. You sure don't hear them now do you? No, but they sure can play that card whenever it's to their convenience. This too will end, I'm sure, as Obama works towards that very end. Hold everyone acccountable, Mr. President, even those of your colors -- white or black!

Indeed Burris should resign, but a hypocrite like McConnell would be like the pot calling the kettle black.

Burris needs to go – you could read slime ball from the moment Burris accepted the appointment by El Blago; any ethical person would have immediately refused the appointment by another slime ball.
