Goldberg takes issue with media coverage of President Obama.
(CNN) - It has become one of MSNBC host Chris Matthew's most infamous lines of the 2008 presidential election:
"I felt this thrill going up my leg," Matthews said the night Obama resoundingly defeated rival Hillary Clinton in the Virginia and Maryland Democratic primaries.
And former CBS News Correspondent Bernard Goldberg, who has long alleged liberal bias in the media, highlighted that line as indicative of the media's "slobbering" press coverage of candidate Obama during his campaign for the White House.
"That's not commentary, that's a man-crush," Goldberg declared on CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday.
Goldberg, the author of the new book “A Slobbering Love Affair,” credits the media coverage of the 2008 presidential election for ultimately resulting in Barack Obama's victory.
He specifically faulted coverage of the prolonged Democratic primary campaign, during which two historic candidates contentiously squared off.
"I think in elite liberal circles, certainly inside the media, race trumps gender, and that's why they slobbered over Barack Obama, and took Hillary Clinton to the back room and beat her with a rubber hose,” Goldberg said.
Goldberg also faulted political journalists for not digging up controversial sermons of the president's longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, until Obama had already effectively captured his party's nomination.
"These tapes were available, you didn't have to be Woodward or Bernstein to dig them up," Goldberg said. "If those tapes had come out six months earlier, certainly a year earlier, I don't think Barack Obama would have been the nominee.
"I think Hillary Clinton would have been. And I think she would have been the president today," he continued. "And in that sense, she's the biggest loser in all of this."
prejudice seems to wear it's ugly head. Here is a man who is genuinely trying to fix the country and ignorant small minded people like you guys are focusing on the wrong things. Why are people even listening to these selfish republicans who have managed to mess things up for the last eight years. You guys seem to forgot that Clinton left this country in 2000 with a surplus and a booming economy. The only thing Bush had to do is come and countinue what Clinton did and things would have been better. I just hope Obama continue to do positive and genuine things and realize these selfish bastards are irelevant.
Some of you have a serious misunderstanding of media careers. Sean Hannity does NOT claim to be a journalist. He is a political commentator (which requires taking a political stance). I really don't like him much but like all people, he says things at least occasionally that I agree with as does Alan Colmes, Keith Olberman, and other counterparts on the left. Chris Matthews is NOT a political commentator. He is supposed to be an unbiased dispenser of the news. The great newsmen of yesteryear gave us hints of their political stances (as is natural) but went to great lengths to appear unbiased. It does not happen as much these days.
If you want to point out the Fox News bias, don't pick someone who is obviously not a news anchor!
The looks that the Fox News commentators like Hannity gave Bush and Cheney and even now Gingrich......simple and pure hero worship.
Typical GOP trash talk........I am still in disbelief of all of the "selective amnesia" that the conservative media has
The election gave us two choices, an old fool and a young fool. No matter who won, we would have elected a fool. IT IS TRUE ABOUT MEDIA BIAS, BUT IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. All of our leaders, both politicians and media pundits, have bought into the idea that world wide socialism is the only answer to our problems. Our candidates, from both parties, say the same things, make the same promises, and have the absolute identical outlook on foreign policy. So this entire conversation is a waste of breath and energy.
Let them give us some real candidates, people who believe in a sovereign nation, and will not sell off our country in globalist treaties. Who attacked Guithner the new Treasury Secretary? He is a globalist insider elitist, it would not matter if he had killed his own mother, he would still have the job. Chris Matthews's bias is only a symptom of our much greater problems.
Obama won by almost 7 million votes, and more that a couple hundred electoral votes. That is a 'landslide.'
It is time for the Republicans to just SHUT UP! They have absolutley no excuse for executing, supporting and applauding the mismanagement and destruction of the US economy. Their actions in the last eight years verge on treason.
President Obama needs time and cooperation to implement plans designed by some of the best minds in the country.
The lunatic fringe which dominates what remains of the Republican Party does enjoy an endless capacity to attract and endorse every lowlife creep out there. Their goal is to appeal to every rotten character trait that human frailty is capable of manifesting.
Combining accusations of liberal basis with hints of homosexuality? A nice tactic for brownshirts....

Do you weep softly at night when you're all alone on your island of red, surrounded by an ocean of blue?
This quasi-poetic comment is a perfect example of the kind of arrogant lefty wackjobs that voted Obama into office. Obama is "intelligent, fresh, and has new ideas." Um isnt he trying to emulate FDR and Lincoln?, even though the new deal was a FAILURE. Speaking of crying at night, I wouldnt doubt that there are tons of you libs too ashamed to reflect on the fact that your messiah has already backtracked on his campaign of 'hope' and ethics and has even adopted bush policies. You people are the same hypocritical low lifes that cry like babies when a guy makes a satirical cartoon reflecting on two current events, and try to turn it into a race fiasco, even though the last 8 years saw more president-chimp references than anyone remembers... Lets just hope this nonsense ends in 2012.
This coming from the the man who ENCOURAGE a crazed right-wing to MURDER LIBERALS! He should be in jail let alone trying to cast judgement on Chis Matthews!
THE RIGHT IS RUNNING SCRADE! YET, THEY'VE FOUND A SAFE HAVEN...CNN!
CNN – SAFE FOR THE RIGHT WING NUTS!
Chris Matthews is no worse than Blitzer, just more obvious.
Wolf attacks, is obnoxious, disrespectful to many dignified democrats that come on his show, while (by the way, CNN has twice as many republicans on) he practically licks the boots of any republican.
With Fox and CNN do not know how anyone has the nerve to
criticize anything anyone else says.
Goldberg is just another sad sack who represents the core of the republican party.
...as opposed to the Republicans, who favor Religion over Intelligence.
This says it all... "Goldberg is currently a commentator for Fox News..." and "Goldberg's latest book...released on January 26, 2009 by conservative publishing house Regnery Publishing." from his wikipedia page.
Says it all for me.
Who cares what this man thinks or repeating himself!
I always wondered why Obama walks so funny, and now I know.
Do not worry nobody likes Mathews but Mathews. I could see romantic ideas with him between and Orielly but I think Goldberg has that date already made.
If race trumps gender then it's definitely a new day in America. Because white women weren't lynched because they were white women. so it's interesting that the blacks now can fit in with certain elite circles.
President Obama won "big". Whether you win by 1 electoral vote or 1000, a win is a win. Quit crying you Republican losers... Palin '12, Jindal '12... please, please let this be the ticket in 2012. That's when you will see a real landslide.
The media abrogated all journalistic responsibility with respect to Barack Obama. They simply lacked the intellectual curiosity to scrutinize Obama.
The media does have a liberal bias.
Throw around all the insults that you will. It does not alter the landscape that CNN & MSNBC are as far to the left as Fox News is to the right.
The media did not elect Barack Obama.
It does change the fact that the major networks and the cable outlets reflect bias in their reporting.
The best way method of getting the news is from several sources.
I think that many Americans like Chris Matthews were happy to think at that time that we could have a President to be somewhat proud of.
I think I speak for many other Bermies' everywhere when I say Bernie Goldberg is a smug jerk! He has been hanging around Bryant Gmble too long!
I'm sure Hillary Clinton takes great comfort in being defended by the same people who, two years ago, were calling her "Hillabeast," giggling at her looks, and alleging she was a closet lesbian.
Hypocrisy, thy name is GOP.
So true JMB!!!!!!
For the first time in my life, I am ashamed of my country.

I followed closely and was/is a Clinton supporter. Every day I cringed at the biased media coverage of Obama over Clinton. It was sickening. I have no ill will nor do I dislike Obama. I just preferred Clinton. I still voted Obama when the final ballot was drawn and have no issues with the process. I DO have issues with the media. What happened to objective journalism? Was that all make believe? Did it EVER exist?
STILL awaiting??????? Why CNN?
