Obama in perpetual campaign, Barbour says

Obama has traveled to key swing states in the last few weeks.

(CNN) – It's no coincidence President Obama has traveled to key swing states to push his massive stimulus measure, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said Sunday.

Barbour, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, said Obama's recent travel is an indication that the new president is already running for reelection.

"He's going to those places for a reason," Barbour said on CNN's State of the Union. "I mean David Axelrod, who's his campaign consultant/manager/guru really is one of the brightest, most capable people in American politics. And so this is what we've become accustomed to, the perpetual campaign."

In the last few weeks, the president has visited Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and Colorado - all states that voted Republican in the 2004 presidential election but flipped to the Democrat's side in 2008. Obama has also visited Arizona - the home state of his former rival, Sen. John McCain, and a state he'd like to turn blue in 2012.

The White House has said the president specifically visited those states because they are among the hardest hit by the nations sputtering economy and home foreclosure crisis.

It is so nice to see so many open minded democrats on this forum.

They don’t care how much money Obama and his party spends as long as they get a few bucks thrown at them. If Obama takes money from any one that works for it, the people that voted for him love him more.

To lazy democrats any one that works for a living and wants Obama to keep his hands off their wealth are just mean evil anti-Americans that should have everything they earn taken from them.

In our country, dumb people use their votes to take things away from those who earn it. It sure must be nice to live off the wealth of others and just watch Oprah all day and eat cookies.

To Obama I have to say, give me one bit of proof that poor people create wealth or jobs that keep our economy moving. If it were true then he have to tax them as much as he does us who work for a living.

I just dislike the fact Obama steals wealth from hard working people in order to give it to worthless people just so he can get votes for himself and his party!

I admire Obama for being such a strategically intelligent politician. On the one hand Obama is doing what it takes to be president by visiting the American people in their local communities, comfort zones, and cultural bases. On the other hand he is preparing for his presidential future. Brilliant!! No wonder the republicans are so jealous–they are being out gunned, out matched, and out publicized by a young president with no real presidential experience. What does this say about the GOP's experience level? Sub-par comes to mind. This scenario is all too comical.

My hat is off to you President Obama. Keep them guessing. Keep them on their heels. Soon, you'll knock them all off there feet! Checkmate!!

Republicans please stop playing divisive and destructive politics in the "united" states of america. You will surely pay dearly for obstructive efforts in deceiving the come man with your inept arguements about the stimulus package! I am writing as an independent – i am neither a registered democrat nor republican!

At first Obama stayed in Washington, but when hypocrites and posturers in the GOP decided to block his every move regardless of how much it would hurt the country he decided to leave the muck and take his message of saving the American people TO the American people. The GOP is now bitter that they lost the PR war and that their ratings suffered much more than Obama's. I hope the GOP keeps doing what they are doing and stay in oblivion forever – watch them next try to filibuster affordable health care.

Bush never appeared before the general population, instead opting for giving speeches at military bases where the adoring audience were all his employees.

Ask your self-–Why are our military women and men solders all Republicans ?

The president is in fact in campaign mode. He is fighting the nutwigs that have nothing but negatives to spout. This nutcase says he won't take the stimilus money. Guess that will help those in his state who are losing their homes and jobs. But really who cares about them Gov. He has a presidential race to win. From the looks of many of the posts here he has his whole family doing comments on the web.

Haley Barbour needs to take care of the under educated people in the State of Mississippi.

He really should take the stimulus funds; there are so many people in GED programs, if they all go to college there will not be enough room.

Educate your citizens Mr. Barbour. Maybe if you would "visit" segments of your state, you would know what is going on there.

Haley Barbour is an anachronism – an old, tired, partisan, conniving, earmark-seeking politician. Who cares what he says or does. The people of his state will take care of him.

Remeber that if bush had been obama(in otherwords if obama was the president from 2000-2008) surely things wouldn't have been the way they are now. Bush had no idea of whatz going on in the country and he was just unwilling to yield to others ideas. The opposite is very true with Obama. Obama is very much aware of the threat ahead and he's doing everything to stop future catastrophe. GOPs are scared and frustrated with the brilliance of obama and they will/are doing all possible to block his success. BUt GOP my message to you isCountry First Ok. THE CHALLENGES ARE REAL, THE THREAT NEEED IMMEDIATE ACTION AND THAT IS WHAT PRES OBAMA IS DOING.

THANK YOU GOP FOR YOUR PATRIOTISM.

I am so glad we have an outstanding person like President Obama to lead us. It will take a couple of years, but entrepreneurs will start new businesses to replace the failed banks and wall street greed.

If after 4 years the US is doing worse than the rest of the world economically, we can say Obama failed. Can't say that yet.

So what if he is ? He has to match those Republicans who are already looking at 2010 and 2012. Their rhetoric is geared and tailored for their people back home and not to show that they care about what so many are going through. Their motto is "spin and perception baby, that is what matters"

the governor of the state of mississippi should see that his state is always at the bottom when it comes to poverty wages and education and the standard of living wages so people of your state should notice this and vote people like you out of office. and the people should start to demand better conditions.

REG in AZ had the best analysis I've read to date. Thank you for so eloquently voicing the viewpoint so many of us share. It is very disheartening that the Republican party has been bought, because they are in lock step with an "attack at all costs" agenda that has little rhyme or reason, and the few that believe in them are dittoheads who have been brainwashed by too much radio. (They must have a lot of dreams about Rush.) Republican leadership seems to have given up on our country and are just trying to ensure that they get theirs and are planning to move to an island paradise in the middle of the pacific. It's really the only logical conclusion to this party's political gamesmanship - because it's going to destroy this country.

Obama – flying around the country beginning his 2012 campaign after only 40 days in office… wasting taxpayer's money!

While America is suffering a financial crisis – Obama and Michelle throw lavish soirees – with us footing the bill.

Obama only cares about Obama. Self-absorbed, "entitled" Socialist."

    @jon in CA,

You are another Limbaugh kool aid drinker who distorts the truth and tells lies.

President Obama must use Air Force One whenever he flies; it's a job perk. Get used to it.

Secondly, President and Mrs. Obama are free to as many cocktail parties they wish to have in THEIR home; it is their money; they can spend it like they want to. In essence, since you don't know, the First Family use their own funds for they household food, and any party they give for themselves and their family. Get a clue!

Lastly, don't hate because the President is a millionaire; he and his wife earned those millions way before he became President and they certainly didn't earn the milions from his Senate job. People do invest their funds.

My question for you is this: Who did President Bush care about? Did he take care of you personally?

Haley Barbour is a blowhard who has had his way all too often in the past eight years. Why is it that the people of Mississippi voted for this guy?

Perhaps if some of the "pork barrel" defense projects in Mississippi were moved to other states, the people of that good state might change their minds about what kind of Governor they want.

America is on the brink of another "great depression" and all Governor Barbour can talk about is attack politics against the democrats.
