Sen. Gillibrand announced Monday that former Pres. Bill Clinton will appear at a fundraiser next month for her 2010 re-election bid. Gillibrand replaced Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser for his wife’s Senate successor in New York City next month, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced Monday.

“Both Secretary of State Clinton and President Clinton embody the type of leadership I hope to bring to the State of New York,” said Gillibrand, in a message to supporters. “[A]nd President Clinton's willingness to show his early support for my candidacy could not mean more to me.”

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of Long Island has been mentioned as a possible challenger to Gillibrand in a 2010 Democratic primary race. Rep. Peter King, a Republican from Nassau County, may seek to represent the GOP in the general election contest.

Gillibrand is sure headin' in the right direction in seekin' Hillary's help for her political career. Both, actually, may benefit from each other by learnin'/teachin' a thing or two.

Judy from PA,
"I wouldn't buy a used car from Obama."

How ironic, since you bought 8 years of bull from your former president. My President Rocks!

Mike in NYC   February 23rd, 2009 9:27 pm ET

Good point, Ravi. NYC is one sick place.

Small town "boring" sounds better and better all the time.

I'd leave, but first I'd have to relearn how to drive.

Ross, Chautauqua, NY:

Actually, Gillibrand IS representative of New York! She represents the ENTIRE State of New York, instead of just New York City.

It's about time NY starts electing people who represent the State, instead of just one tiny little corner of the State.

tess   February 23rd, 2009 8:16 pm ET

bill would show up at a hanging if he got publicity – never has such an insecure fool reached such high office and remained an insecure fool! when will people stop showing up to see a washed up, old man ?

Susan   February 23rd, 2009 7:47 pm ET

You know, people can be so juvenile and insulting in their
comments. Hillary Clinton was an excellent senator for New York, including the upstate areas. Kirsten Gillibrand is another extremely serious, dedicated and intelligent politician, and I am very happy that Governor Patterson chose her to replace Clinton. I plan on switching from Independant to Democrat so that I can vote for her in the primary.

Gillibrand was a terrible choice, she is not representative of New York. Why does Clinton want to do us harm?!

Bill in California   February 23rd, 2009 7:14 pm ET

I can remain silent on many half truths and or slip ups on both sides but the comment from one reader that Bill Clinton is one of the most beloved president's of all times?? He single handedly brought the office of the presidency to it's knees. Excuse the double intendre.

america first   February 23rd, 2009 7:05 pm ET

when Clinton left office, we had plenty of money , when bush and his band of republicans left we are TRILLONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT, HOW CAN THE REPUBLICANS EVEN LOOK AMERICA IN THE FACE.

ranjit   February 23rd, 2009 7:01 pm ET

Thanks to Gillibrand for becoming New York, US senator. The 20th District in New York state is in the toss up column. Special election on March 31st will be an interesting race to watch. There is a very good chance that, republicans will win that race.

Bill   February 23rd, 2009 6:57 pm ET

lol, what does former President Clinton want with this woman!

Once you vote Black   February 23rd, 2009 6:56 pm ET

Indy Vet, dry up. Got beat in the last election and now you want everyone to be misserable.

brianne   February 23rd, 2009 6:54 pm ET

I find GOP criticism of the stimulus package hilarious. Next up 'stimulus' will be chosen as VP candidate then 'stimulus' will make history as choice for RNC chair. GOP get over yourselves. No one trusts you on economic and now military issues. See 06 and 08 election results. Stimulus is so horrible that the GOP Governors who have been making a show of railing against will only accept 97%+ of it. Ohhh the other 3% is soooo terrible!! BTW thanks for the lovely recession we've been having. Great fun watching so many ppl lose their jobs. Homelessness and joblessness rise sharply following 8 yrs of GOP.

Matthew, Detroit   February 23rd, 2009 6:53 pm ET

HE IS THE KING OF PARTYING LIKE ITS 1999.

American   February 23rd, 2009 6:49 pm ET

I am sure Bill Clinton will do it fundraising for her – she is pretty cute after all! I will do the same.

v best   February 23rd, 2009 6:45 pm ET

I use to like Bill Clinton but now he is using all this for money. Don’t trust any man that takes credit for another man’s work. During the campaign, Bill & Hillary were the people telling us that things will get worse, trying to scare us like the GOP did, talking about 3:00am calls & all that shit, while Pres. Obama was ‘spreading’ hope & optimism. Now Bill said, “Obama shouldn’t scared the public, he should watch what he says, he should be more optimistic”. Hello Bill!! What do you think that he has been doing for 2yrs? Where have you been? Why do you think that he is still visiting different cities? The man won on hope & optimism, so why are you trying to take credit. Be careful not to let the GOP use you to say stupid things. They have been trying to bring this President down before he even starts. They are so desperate that they will use anyone to do it. If they can’t find scandal in this fund raising, they will make one up.

Your time is over Bill, don’t be selfish. Your wife is part of this administration. It is Hillary's time to shine. Just let them do their job peacefully without worrying about your fund raising scandal. This administration is trying so hard to improve ethics accountability. Don’t expect them to make exceptions for you if any scandal comes up. This is not the time for you to be heading any fund raising. Yes, you can be part of it but you don’t have to lead it.

If Bill is so great a campaigner and most beloved, why is Hillary Secretary of State and not President.

Bill is a con-artist, albeit much better than Obama.

Hypocrites!

That is the cue for the Obama-supporter women-haters to start spewing....

Then the RNC sexist folks will pick up where they left off....

Haters – go home.

Matthew, Detroit   February 23rd, 2009 6:00 pm ET

GUYS I LIKE BILL.

I WOULD TAKE HIM IN A NEW YORK MINUTE OVER THIS CLOWN.

Bill with all the crap internationally and the inability to prosecute anyone on the USS COLE ACT (although Barack dropped those charges now – great american that barack) otherwise he did an okay job. The Congress hamstrung him on spending so he kept it tight.

Plus I have to say that man can bring it when it comes to young girls. He probably held off for the last 4 years while Hillary was running for offics so he is ready to go now. That is the kind of party you go to and just bring a case of beer and a case of condoms.

If anyone gets a listing of where and exactly when this thing is please post it.

I am going to go out there and hit on naive democrat girls. Should be easy work... IT WILL BE CHRISTMAS IN MARCH.
