Romney’s PAC writes checks to 11 of the 'Undaunted Dozen'

Mitt Romney's PAC announced Monday that it is donating money to nearly all of a group of House Republicans who are being targeted by a Democratic campaign because of their opposition to the stimulus bill.
Mitt Romney's PAC announced Monday that it is donating money to nearly all of a group of House Republicans who are being targeted by a Democratic campaign because of their opposition to the stimulus bill.

(CNN) – Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is lending a financial hand to a group of House Republicans who have become targets of a new Democratic campaign over their opposition to the $787 billion stimulus bill.

In recorded telephone messages, text messages, and e-mails set to be sent out this week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to highlight the opposition of 12 House Republicans to stimulus package.

“What Republicans wanted was a bill to strengthen the economy,” Romney said in a statement announcing the $1000 donations by his Free and Strong America PAC. “What the Democrats passed was a bill to stimulate government. We are committed to helping these courageous Republicans defend their position and fend off political attacks.”

The “Undaunted Dozen,” as Romney calls them, “[stood] up for fiscal responsibility and [said] no to spending abuse.”

Although the former GOP presidential hopeful referred to the dozen members targeted by the DCCC, Rep. Adam Putnam of Florida was not sent a donation because he has announced that he is not seeking re-election in 2010, according to the PAC’s statement.

That's pretty funny.... the democrats targeting a representative who is not even running for re-election. Boy, did we just elect smart people to run our country or what?

Well I hope they take Romney's $1,000 and none of the stimulas package. Then stand on their principals as the rest of the nation pulls it's self out of this recession while their constituants fall into dire straits. Then these Americans will wise up, boot the 12 and get some help!
Just don't take the money and watch what happens!

Really, How dumb can you get

You go Mitt! I can't believe that the DCCC has nothing better to do a month after swearing in a new Democratic president than to start campaigning. The guys feet aren't even wet yet.

The Republicans voted their conscience and the America I grew up in allows us to differ in opinion. Maybe that was the Change we were to expect. No more freedom to express ourselves unless it is what the Dems want.

I don't think that is right. I am an independant and I tend to go with the dems on most things but when you are wrong you are wrong. I don't know who has the right answers but I do know that $13 in a paycheck and then $7.70 next year isn't going to stimulate anything!!! I'm not the only person who feels this way either!!!!

  13. Moderate Republican

Romney is a key fundraiser for the national Republican Party, but he should spend more time cultivating moderates like himself (Specter, Snowe, etc.) for the 2010 and 2012 cycles.

Just give it time. When the democrats come off their kool aid high they will realize they have been taken for a ride with this stimulus bill. At least Bush put some cash in everyones pocket but this hunongus obama bill is payback to his buddies for services rendered. Once the blissful blind begin to see the light, every democrat in office right now will be history. This is the largest fleecing of america that we have ever witnessed.

Anything to kill the bill's purpose, by Romney, is likely to create a furor among the DCCC. His arguements are not powerful and will invite harsh criticism from the independants. Unless tax reduction is paired with draconian measures of belt tightenin', the Laffer curve of trickle principle has benn challenged by some economists. Hence the"Brave GOP 12" will face a threat of being named "the Dirty Dozen".

Mitt Romney is such a fake. He has got about as much republican so called fiscal responsibility in him as Michael Steele. They can't even make up their minds if they're a repub or dem. It is really sad that American people are suffering and instead of helping to come up with real solutions, they are using this time to play political games and "rebrand" themselves. I hope it backfires on them and the American people reject their false concern for the American people. The republicans have never been about the people and have never made decisions based on the the average American people. Citizens please do not get amnesia, these guys are trying to hoodwink you into believing they can do a better job. They had 8 years for their voice to be heard, but chose to sit on the side lines and let George W. Bush do whatever he wanted to do without a fight. They don't deserve to even have a voice!
