WASHINGTON (CNN) - Interesting line, sounds like major aid for the auto industry is on the way: “…I believe the nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it."

Obama doesn't even know who invented the auto, it was Karl Benz in Germany

LET THEM FALL!!! FORD IS THE ONLY ONE WITH A PLAN. GO AWAY IF YOU DCON'T WANT TO MAKE CONCESSIONS. WE DON'T NEED GM OR CHRYSLER... MAKE CONCESSIONS OR FAIL.

Henry Miller, Cary, NC   February 24th, 2009 11:45 pm ET

Actually, it was a couple of Germans who "invented" cars–is Obama planning to send a few billion to Germany?

We should be treating this with the same level of commitment that was embodied in the Manhattan Project. There is no technical reason that we cannot retool all three US auto manufacturers to be building nothing but hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in 24 months. In 36 months we could be the world's largest auotmobile exporter.

The greedy corporations have already proven they are not up to the task, have they not? We have seen this coming for 30 years. If we don't get this planet off fossil fuels we will see a time that will make the 1940's seem like a cakewalk.

That statement is somehow confusing, since the nation that invented the automobile is actually Germany (through Karl Benz, founder of Daimler-Benz).

The pres missed opportunity to put Americans into action by giving them confidence in going out and purchasing new housing and automobiles. It is time to go back to spending and we wont reach the desired result until the manager, forced to lay people off, doesn't feel to guilty to purchase a new vehicle.

MORE SPENDING ON AUTO.

MORE TARP FUNDS.

THIS GUY WILL ADD 5-6 TRILLION TO THE NATIONAL DEBT IN

ONLY 4 YEARS.

EVERYONE Complained about President Bush and I agree he was
irresponsible. 5 Trillion in 8 years. But Barack is insane.

Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot   February 24th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

It is sad that the President of our country does not know who invented the automobile. A Frenchman, a Scott, and three Germans made substantial automotive first nearly 100 years before the first American, and that was not Henry Ford as most believe. Please Mr. President do your homework.

Necie in OKC   February 24th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

We probably will....but only if there are major concessions from the Union. I'm not against unions, but I believe sometimes they are their worst enemy. Hey, I drive an Envoy so I love my American Made Automobile and would prefer to keep those jobs actually in America

David N   February 24th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

The auto was invented in the US? Prez O needs to check his facts. Hopefully the Obama stimulus package and the alleged benefits it will provide are based on REAL facts.
