(CNN) – It isn’t President Obama’s first stint in the prime-time spotlight — his White House press conference to push for the stimulus came during the evening hours - but the nation’s chief executive will have the national stage to himself tonight.
The State of the Union address wasn’t always a prime-time event. Which president moved the speech from midday to the evening?
Answer after the jump
President Lyndon Johnson moved the State of the Union from its traditional mid-day timeslot to the evening to attract a larger television audience. Johnson delivered the first prime-time State of the Union on January 4, 1965.

I just heard Lou Dobbs tell the most outrageous lie. He pretended not to know what the NY Post cartoon was about. All white men of his age know exactly what that cartoon was suggesting. He's a neo-conservative hiding behing the label of libertarian. (I use lower case letters intentionally). The fact that he lied makes his bigoted opinion even worse. Wolves in sheep clothing are the real horrors. It is disgusting. And I don't believe for one minute that only one person in his staff group found it offensive.
There is HOPE for America now that we have such a wonderful and caring President.
Why doesn't the administration consider giving distressed mortgage home owners 30 year and 40 interest only loans at low fixed rates to make the monthly payments managable. In so doing, the banks would not be pushed to cramp down the mortgage balances and the mortgage would not be due until 30 or 40 years or if the home owner decides to sell early and in such an event, the loss or gain could be determined.
Ok, for the first time I feel reluctantly stupid. Is/was Pres Obama's speech tonight the State of the Union address??? Not once was it mentioned as such, yet I know he is addressing congress and the house, and it is February. However, his speech has never been parlayed as the actual state of the union address I know so well from history.
If this is, in fact, the state of the union address, why is it only advertised as a joint address to the house and senate? Is the fact that republicans and democrats are so willing to distance themselves, that the media feels there is no more union and thus we abolish the term??
Im glad I voted for the President
TALK IS CHEAP.WAIT AND SEE IF HE CAN ACTUALLY MAKE ANY PROGRESS.
