WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Barack Obama said Tuesday that he'll soon be laying out specifics on how to win the war in Afghanistan and responsibly end the one in Iraq.
"We are now carefully reviewing our policies in both wars, and I will soon announce a way forward in Iraq that leaves Iraq to its people and responsibly ends this war," he told a joint session of Congress.
Meanwhile, he said, both Afghanistan and its border with Pakistan will remain a key focus.
"With our friends and allies, we will forge a new and comprehensive strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan to defeat al Qaeda and combat extremism," Obama said. "Because I will not allow terrorists to plot against the American people from safe havens half a world away."
He said his budget will pay for more soldiers and Marines, increase their pay and improve veterans' benefits.
I look forward to the end of the war in Iraq. We need to redirct those funds to programs here in the US. Also it is time for the people of Iraq to take responsibility for their own country and their own problems.
America hasn't had another country come into our boarders and help us govern in over 200 yrs.
Also Bin Laden talks about how we are cowards and he hides in the mountains and gives orders from afar. Bin Landen needs to face justice.
Who would have thought the war on would ever be over? Even “possibly win the war in Afghanistan and correctly end the one in Iraq.” The government is trying to actually strategy fix the war. I think this should have happen a long time ago. It is time about time to move on from the past. There are so many problems that American need to fix, instead of being in war. Also, they need to make sure that a similar terrorist attack will happen to American again. You cannot ultimately stop terrorism but it is key not prevent it. It is also great that Obama is going to give more benefit to the veteran and current soldiers
