Democrats to target Democrats in 2010

Conservative Democrats will take heat from members of their own party.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - A powerful union, influential bloggers and several liberal groups have formed a political coalition to pressure conservative Democrats to support liberal policy goals.

"Accountability Now PAC will recruit, coordinate and support primary challenges against vulnerable congressional incumbents who have become more responsive to corporate America than to their constituents," the PAC said in a written statement provided to CNN.

Accountability Now comprises of BlogPAC, Color of Change, DailyKos, Democracy for America, MoveOn, Service Employees International Union and 21st Century Democrats.

The PAC was created last September, and organizers have been acquiring funding and hiring an executive director to oversee the project, Jane Hamsher, of the political blog firedoglake.com, told CNN.

The statement said PAC organizers hope to "create the political space needed to enable President Obama to make good on the many progressive policies he campaigned on - such as getting out of Iraq, ensuring access to affordable health care for every man, woman and child, restoring our constitutional liberties and ending torture."

Heading into the 2010 mid-term elections, Democrats control the House 254-to-178 with three vacancies, and the Senate 58-to-41 with one open seat.

Did anyone actually watch the Jindal response to Obama's speech? OMG!!!!!! Was that THE MOST FAKE bunch of crap you'd ever seen? When it started I actually thought it was a Saturday Night Live spoof. HONESTLY. It took me a few minutes to grasp that it wasn't. LOL!!!!!!!

And in two years the American people will be targeting those liberal democrats who have signed off on the largest spending bill ever, and which would have not accomplished jack in getting this nation back on it's feet again.

Even winning the 2008 election, the democrats fail to see how truely out-of-touch they are with the majority of Americans. They have confused an "anti-Bush" vote with support for socialist ideas.

As usual the Dems are going to shoot themselves in the foot. That is the problem with their party, they don't understand how key diversity is. No, everyone must follow lock step or else they get politically targeted. Which is going to be AWESOME for Republicans.

I really hate these PAC groups on both sides of the isle. Republicans targeting other Republicans because they arent "conservative" enough and Democrats targeting other Democrats because they aren't "liberal" enough. It makes me sick.

When are they going to realize that most of this country is centrist/moderate, not extreme right or extreme left? By targetting these moderate dems and repubs who are in office and who actually share the views of most Americans, these groups are only succeeding in alienating their respective parties from the public.

Maybe they should listen to the moderates and quit trying to push their extreme agendas for once. The country has run out of time and patience for this type of partisan crap.

That is the way to go. Too many have succumbed to the conservative doctrine and have thrown off the LIBERAL approach to government. GOD is liberal: He has given us freedom of choice and sustains us on a liberal basis.

As a member of Democracy for America, I thank CNN and Mark Preston for posting this article. It's long past time for right-wing and so-called "moderate" Democrats to get with the program and recognize what the American people said so loudly and decisively last November: this country needs fundamental change, and standing with giant corporations, polluters and companies that ship jobs overseas is no longer acceptable. President Obama is trying to make the government once again be of, by and for the people, and Democrats who stand in the way are just as bad as Republicans who stand in the way. (Actually, they're worse, because they should know better.) Let them all start packing their bags.

With the next obvious step to start eating their young! As a moderate Democrat I feel that our strength and the quality that most separated us from the current trend in the Republican party is our diversity. We do not want to become the mirror opposite of them, nor do I think the leader of the Democratic party, President Obama, would encourage it.

Ouch, this will certainly support a socialism argument. I don't think this is fair. Show me the data that these congressmen are not taking care of the responsibilities of their office, or step off. Their responsibility to the people is to ensure that the big business they represent is doing its best to evolve the market. Is that a trickle down effect? Yes. Trickle down may be the political fau paux these days, but that's the way capitlism works. It's not trickle down that's let us down, it's the fact that big businesses have resorted to a protectionism ideal rather than put their efforts into continuously expanding a global market.

    This is getting scary!

Not only does the dimocratic party target news personalities that don't follow along with Obama, they are now targeting their own who do not just fall in line with Obama. This is his american way?!?

No, this is Obama's way, (and don't tell me it's not him, unless you want to also tell me you're stupid), eliminate all opposition to his thought. this is the change he talked about? Listening to others ideas? I guess if they are the same as his, he will listen, otherwise he will set out his cronies to destroy you since he is not hurting for money. And you idiots keep giving him money and keep defending him.

Interesting tactic, trying to make Blue Dogs into becoming, at least, more liberal. As a Dem, I'd prefer to be more centrist, hence keeping near the Blue Dogs. Leaning too much to the left is the same as the Repubs leaning too much to the right. Whoever gets most of the Indies holds the power, it's just that simple.

Let's face it – many ingrained democrats have strayed far away from representing their constituents. Nobody is immune from the sway of power and $$, which is why I believe we need term limits for all public offices, not just the president.

The liberal Democrats should attempt to get it through their heads that the only reason Obama is in office is because of conservative Democrats, and conservative Independants and republicans who became disgusted with the Bush regime and the religious right. We have NOT changed our overall philosophy. Keep that in mind or it will be a short time for the Dems in Washington.

Well liberals need to back off a bit because this is not just their country. I am an in the middle Dem. I am a good blogger. I wish I got paid for it. I have heard some of my bloggs come out in the words of different Politian’s speeches during this last heck of an election; including the President’s inaugural speech. Last night, I had a dream that Hillary was sitting in school as a child and a rusty nail fell out of the ceiling onto her head. From that day forward she decided to fix the education system and healthcare system in this country. So she has become a legend in history. What it took for here to get there, that is God’s judgment. The truth is: that all this nation, and really the world needs to be fixed is very simple. It is not up to God to fix things or keep us happy, that is up to us. It is Gods job to keep his promise and he does that pretty well from my view point. My point is that if everyone was well educated and healthy then the economy would be thriving. People would be smart enough to put their differences aside, and American’s would understand how to live together- A better nation-One Nation Under God-rather if you believe it or not, if you are a conservative or a liberal. Everyone is entitled to being free and equal in this Great Nation. It does not matter who you are, where you are from, and what you believe. We are all American’s and that is what makes us better people. United Healthcare is a must.

We don't need liberal policys in American. That is what has destroyed this country. We need policys based on Biblical Principles. God is the creator of all things and we need to live our lives and honor the creator. Going back to Biblical principles is what is going to turn this nation around. Liberal principles is all about me and what I can get rather that living up to Godly teachings. Liberal policies has created the greed in our country and a country that leaves God out will destroy itself and we as a Christian Nation needs to stand up for the principles that our nation was founded on.

Just remember Christ is coming back and either it is heaven or hell and not liberal policies that is going to matter on that final day. That is the real issue of life and how we should conduct ourselves.

ARE YOU READY FOR HIS RETURN????????????????

Godly principles serves all man kind and has proven the test over the years that is why nations that has been under a dictator ones it is free ,you see those people turning to God . Look at Iraq. Heaven is going to be full of those people thanking God .

Perhaps the liberal movement should go over and take over Iran or Cuba, or some of the other countries that have a dictator type of government., then they could run a country as they please and perhaps if they are luck have plenty of followers because they are already brain washed.

Do the Dems have a leader??? This is exactly how we managed to get George Bush and a Republican Congess, the Dems snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by infighting and ultimately losing everything!!! They have never learned to pace themselves and their zeal alienates voters. This appears to be , social radical forces trying to attack our government from within. The some sectors of the American people want instant gratification and entitlements, the Democrats with dictator power now,are taking total advantage of us by knowing that. They know If there plan doesn't go threw before we understand what's in it,and we learn that it isn't going to do anything but make the situation worse financially and take away our freedoms even now, they won't achieve their agenda of more power for the"their" government. That is why they are pushing and forcing and lieing about this trillion dollar pork barrel bill.We are in the process of watching our country go into decline and being taken over by a dangerous group of power hungry people.

You have to be kidding me! After years of liberals complaining Bush was too conservative (I don't necessarily disagree) they want everything to swing entirely to the other side of the sprectrum. I don't understand why when a rich person wants to keep his money he's considered greedy, but when poor people want that rich guy's same money they're considered "progressive". Republicans keep reducing the money going into the govt's pocket by lowering taxes and Democrats keep making the hole in the pocket bigger. Sounds like a formula for empty pockets.

When will libs be brave enough to answer the question: where will the money come from to finance their fantasy agenda? Take Bush off the table in your response. The "he did it so we can too" attitude is a flawed and dangerous argument. Bush is as liberal as they get when it comes to the purpose of a federal government.

What free market/free enterprise jobs will be created by the billions/trillions that Obama and other socialists want to spend? You can't count a single job that pays its employees from my tax dollars. That would be any job at any level of government or that exists due to government grants. The only jobs you can count are those provided by business (your enemy, if you believe your own propaganda).

How will taxing business more than we are now help to create these free market jobs? Remember, "business" includes those eveil people who have a family income of $250,000+ who can create jobs if it is worth their investment. If you reduce the return on money used to create business and jobs to a paltry 20 to 25%, guess what–no more job creation. The ONLY alternative to free enterprise as the engine of national wealth is that the federal government take over all business. Is that what you want? Good luck with that. Guess what happens to the personal liberties you think are so endangered now? Just look at Russia, China, Venezuala, Cuba, etc. This is the end of the road for the type of behavior you are advocating.

I do not think these people get it, the party is going to implod because the left wing part of the party thinks they own the party. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!!!!

Change is about ALL of us – WORKING TOGETHER – to do what is in the best interest of ALL of us! It's not about individual agendas and special interests – NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE!!

The essense of the Democratic Party should always be to embrace all input and ideas to find the best solutions that will improve the overall quality of ALL of our lives!

The Democratic Party is leading this change. It is not time for us to "Eat Our Own"!!!! At a time when we all need to pull together – asking people to fund an effort like this is, at best, irresponsible – at worst, damaging the the whole effort to really change things for the better!!!!!!

Democrats love a "maverick" Republican, but when their own members actually think for themselves, they are labeled 'traitors' and run out of town.

The Left is moving ever farther left, and that's not a good thing. Obama didn't exactly sweep the election, and if they think the rest of the country wants a far-left government (especially after this first 30 days), they are mistaken.

All PACS should be banned. All they do, regardless of intention, is focus money on a specific issue to the detriment of any possibility of ethical government. .

Same with lobbyists. If their reason for being is to inform politicians of key issues, the Internet makes them redundant.

Go ahead and do this. Liberal Dems will upset Conservative Dems in the primary elections and then Republicans will swoop in and win in the general. Moderate and Conservative Democrats are needs because certain districts lean conservative! This will only result in Democrats losing seats and possibly control of the House.

Liberalism, now that is a joke. These people are not trying to make America what it use to be. They are trying to make this country Socialist. They want a country of voters that vote because they get something in return. These people have their rights because good hard working people died for them, now they want the government to do everything for them. They should get a job and work instead of sitting at the computer like me and writing lies.

Isn't this what the Republicans did to each other? And look where they're at now. It's better to have someone that votes with you 50 percent of the time than someone who's going to vote with you 0 percent of the time. Ideological purity is not desirable. If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody's not thinking.

Realize that everybody on Daily Kos (myself among them) is an individual speaking for themselves.

Who speaks for you? You do. And if you sit there and wait for somebody to come along and speak for you, when you won't, do not be surprised when you do not have a voice. Liberals like me did not have a voice in our government. So we found ours. If you don't do the same you don't deserve a voice.

I want a government where every political viewpoint has a voice, but I can't make you guys speak for yourselves.

The Republican party was once criticized for not being the big tent. Now the Democrats are doing the same thing. If you are a conservative Democrat, you will be chased out of the party. I consider myself a conservative Democrat and am totally unhappy with this spending spree by Congress.

It's time we have a third party called the moderate party where people can be independent minded and not be subject to or be intimidated by any political caucus or left or right wing group.

Extreme agendas don't work. Bush was a failure and Obama is going to be far worse. I never thought I would like Ronald Reagan and consider him mainstream but he was a great President and we need someone like him again,.

Progressive Democrats have nothing to fear come mid term 2010 elections. If Jindal, Palen, Sheldon and Limbaugh are the new voices of the GOP, more Democrat seats will be gained in both the House and Senate.

Jindal was a joke Tuesday night. He invoked the disaster of Bush/Cheney's Republican administrations mismanagement during and after katrina as a way forward. He didn't asked for responsible government he asked for no governement. The GOP is not only the party of "NO" they are the party of old ideas, failed policies and little cohesion.

Regardless of what PACS do, though they can help. Democrats will gain majority based upon the progress made by The Obama Administration and the constant missteps of the GOP.

Talk about eating their own... They want to find people who will help Obama with what he wants to do??? Well then maybe they should remove Reid and Pelosi and maybe he could get things done, but if he is going to really so that he is not like a true "in-sider" then he needs to work with both parties and push to remove earmarks, reduce medical malpractice (but the Dems would never go for that). Hey a better idea TERM LIMITS for congress. Keep the senate how they are for election, maybe give one more term. For the house, increase their term to four years and give them three terms. That would be bring real change.

Do some research on the model being used by Dubai. They have attracted many businesses by creating tax free zones. This has spurred development and boosted their economy. In case you are wondering, Dubai is not an oil rich country. If we continue to punish businesses, they are going to move somewhere else.

The democrats are in danger of screwing themselves by doing this. They're forming their version of the crazy right wing by getting rid of moderate democrats and replacing them with the crazy left wingers.

This will allow Republicans to come back out and take control while Dems are fighting each other.

The US is mostly moderate democrats and moderate republicans. When the extreme left or right try to exert too much power or control, they will become irrelevant in the next election cycles, just like what happened to the Republicans in 2006 and 2008.

What's wrong with being in the middle. To be a TRUE representative of the people, all politicians should be in the middle.

Because, whether they are a strict Republican or Democrat, they are going to have the other party in their district to. So, by voting strictly along party lines on issues, these representatives of "the people" are ignoring a good portion of the people they represent.

The world would be a lot better place if everybody was in the middle, and actually considered what they were voting on and how it would affect everybody, instead of just voting as a strict party person.

But because I am a normal person who actually has thoughts and ideals I have no one to represent me because Im not pure right or left. Imagine if we actually started to elect average joes (which is what this country was founded on) and we had good debates in which people were allowed to present their case and, heaven forbid, even change their minds.

These little groups will build steam, get the ear of the media and the next thing you know, they will wait...wait for BO to continue to let this great country slide. THEN they will attack BO, want his head on a platter and seek impeachment. And the two funny things...one, it will all come from the pre-election Obama cheerleaders distancing themselves to preserve their own precious political careers. (There has to be a 'syndrome'/disease name for this...'RAT Syndrome?) And, two, the Repubs will just watch...watch like a train wreck...you cannot look away, even when you know it is coming.

You don't see this kind of stuff on the Repub side. EVEN when things were as bad as they were for Bush, there was a sense of country, stick with the leadership (even if it was painful).

2010 and 2012 will be very interesting times for both parties! The 'Obama Mania' honeymoon will be WAY over, RATS will 'divorce' themselves from him and EVERYONE will be looking for some leadership...outside of the RAT NEST.

I take exception to the comments that there is no such thing as a moderate Democrat. I've been one all of my adult life, and I'm 58. That means I support civil rights issues, and believe in a lot of the platform of the Democratic party, but am fiscally a conservative. I don't always think that throwing money at a problem will fix it.

This is actually a case of the old maxim of an animal eating it's own young. It is a bad tendency BOTH parties have when they are in power...marginalizing those that are moderates and who are willing to compromise and come to a concensus, and heading to an extreme view. The right does it, and so does the left. There are moderates in both parties, but they get cannablized by their own party. It's unfortunate, because actually they represent us better than those on either end of the political spectrum.

If there are any legislators beholden to corporate interests over constituents & public service, they should be rightfully replaced with someone who has the correct priorities. That's one of the reasons many Republicans were voted out of office.

The next step would be to address the remaining legislators that may not be serving the public properly. Byrd & Rangel come to mind. It ensures we have a government working for the people, not corporate interests.

Pelosi and Reid, the leadership has learned exactly nothing. The republicans controled everything for 12 years. They lost it back to the Democrats because of greed and their need for power. It wasn't the the democrats were so good or wanted, it was the republicans were so bad. guess what, the roles will be reversed once more because the democrats like the republicans can't help themselves.

The Republicans have been doing this for years - targeting those who didn't fully share their core values, including providing funds to more "in-line" candidates.

I vote policy, period. But hey, I happen to think it's time this country was left of center for a while. We've had the fascist right for long enough.

The plethora of problems facing this country - our entire globe - mean we need to start thinking communally. It won't matter whether you are left, right or in the center when you cannot feed your family, breathe the air, or find clean water. Just ask anyone in Africa. The real war we are facing is who controls the resources and whether those resources will exist for future generations.

It's nice to see the dems have some backbone. Those moderate dems need to get off the fence and start voting progressive. We spent 8 years with a conservative government and went from having a surplus to a huge deficit. We don't need to go back to the ways of W and his buddies – a solid left agenda will be great for the country.

Don't worry moderates – you'll still have a voice. The republicans are going to have to become moderate to stay relevant...

@ jersey bob: In one sentence you have documented sheep thinking at its finest.

"Democrats to get with the program..." It will be a totalitarian state if EITHER the dems or repubs get total control and certainly not democratic.

" and recognize what the American people said so loudly and decisively last November:" 53% is not decisive. Grow up – there are different opinions out there.

"this country needs fundamental change, and standing with giant corporations" Obama having to pay back huge corporate lobby-like donations is not a great start.

    How stupid is the GOP, judge from this post;

"Even winning the 2008 election, the democrats fail to see how truely out-of-touch they are with the majority of Americans. They have confused an "anti-Bush" vote with support for socialist ideas.

Even though the election result clearly indicated that the majority of Americans are in favor of a strong government run by people that "believe" in government the GOP clings to the bankrupt ideology that has destroyed the fabric of our society through the racist "southern strategy" destroyed hundreds of thousands of lives through failed international policy (we are supposed to celebrate the fact that Iraqi's can vote after spending a Trillion dollars of our money) and let Alan Greenspan's evil experiment in sconomics based on Ayn Rand (Ayn Rand 0 are you kidding me, most of us left her behind as freshmen.

Glad to see the ignorance continue since to the GOP 30% is a majority, that is good, get used to having 30% of the government as they did for 40 years.

These groups and this pac will grow and gain forces should Obama continue to move to the center. These are the very people that put Obama in the WH and are becoming restless over things like the DOJ today supporting telecom immunity, leaving troops in Iraq, not going after the crimes of the Bush Administration, etc. I think you will see some of the Blue Dogs face primaries as well as money spent against GOP candidates. Progressives are fed up with the likes of Harry Reid and other caving politicians. Durbin and the banking industry is just the latest in the lond line of disappointments.

There is no difference between this PAC and the right-wing extremists who targeted moderate republicans just a few years ago. Obama's mandate came from the middle, as in politically moderate members of both parties. Liberal extremism is no better than conservative extremism. Hopefully Obama can rein in these crazies.

Well, I guess it is the beginning of the end of Democrat control. . .they're going to implode, just like the Republicans did when they let the psycho wing of their party take over. When will liberals and conservatives figure out that all the American people want is competent, clear leadership and minimal invasion into the core aspects of family and professional life? Obama does not have a liberal mandate. . .if these groups were smart, they'd leave him alone and let him forge a path of bipartisanship.

We are in danger of failing as a nation of 50 states. I think there are too many pressures (social, politcal, economic, etc.) for the US to survie as it is currently organized. Maybe the time has come to agree to disagree and peacefully separate into smaller, but more harmonious nations that share common ideals.

The US cannot be al things to all people, it never could. Pretending that it will someday is a waste of time. We are divided as a nation and no amount of spending or social engineering will change that.
