Focus on the Family's Dobson steps down

Focus on the Family announced Friday that James Dobson has stepped down from his position as chairman of the group's board.
Focus on the Family announced Friday that James Dobson has stepped down from his position as chairman of the group's board.

(CNN) - James Dobson, evangelical leader of the Christian ministry Focus on the Family, has stepped down as board chairman, he announced Friday.

During a meeting with employees, Dobson, 72, said the move means he will no longer be involved with the administrative side of the ministry, according to spokesman Gary Schneeberger.

But Dobson's public role isn't expected to change. He'll still appear on his daily radio broadcast and as an advocate for socially conservative issues, Schneeberger said.

It's no surprise to hear that a 72-year old is retiring. Focus on the Family has been losing funding since last summer and could use some fresh blood to help the organization shift gears. I'm glad to hear that he is still going to be voicing his valuable opinion.

It's too bad he will still spew his hate filled rhetoric to socially stunted morons, but mean never goes away easily. When he finally does go there will be some other hate monger to take his place.

Dobson who(cares). Evangelical christians have a few screws missing, maybe more than a few. The air has seemed cleaner since I buried my catholic faith.

When he meets his maker "there will be a lot 'splanin' to do Lucy"

This man has set the cause of Christianity back 50 yrs by his implications that only good christians are conservative. If you look thru the Bible and see what Jesus did, no one could say Jesus was conservative.

Dobson just thinks he is a king-maker.....a Jerry Falwell wannabe...who is by the way probaly trying to get into heaven.

    Here's to you Dobson.....you NUTJOB!!!!!!!!

Too bad he'll still be around. Rarely has one person used religion more effectively to create divisional poison, foster anti-intellectualism, and in general reduce the level of religious debate to mindless zealotry.

Thanks, focus on the family, for the cynical political maneuvering that has given us the hatefully manufactured right wing nut dogma on gay marriage, abortion, homosexuality, the widely discredited abstinence doctrine, and best of all, the sheer idiocy of "intelligent design".

This a prophet of BAAL. Remember that he prayed and asked his god to bring torrential run the day of Obama's acceptance speech at the convention? It didn't run that day and this prophet and his followers worship Baal instead of God. That's why he is stepping down because his god didn't help him.
