Former first lady Laura Bush said she and her husband are back to their old routine in Dallas, Texas.

(CNN) –- Just over a month since they left 1600 Pennsylvania Ave for a quiet Dallas neighborhood, former first lady Laura Bush said she and her husband are “back to our old routine.”

In her first post-White House interview, the former first lady told ABC News that she and former President George W. Bush were enjoying coffee together every morning, holding dinner parties with friends, and dealing with the hunt for furniture. “Life is great,” she said.

"We have very little furniture. We don't have a kitchen table or a dining room table," said Bush. "Friends loaned me a kitchen table, and the other night I had 16 people for dinner, and I had to borrow chairs from the Secret Service next door.”

Laura Bush says her husband is meeting the neighbors, making trips to the hardware store, and catching up on some reading via a Kindle. His latest read is a novel given to him for Christmas by former Vice President Dick Cheney.

And while Laura Bush lived and breathed politics for the last eight years, the former first lady said she did not watch President Obama's first address to Congress because she simply forgot.

"I thought it was so ironic that for eight years I would be a nervous wreck before the State of the Union, and for days before, as George would be preparing his speech, worried about it and thinking about what was going to be in the speech," Bush said. “And this time it came and went and I didn't even think about it."

The first lady, an ardent champion of Afghan women's rights while in the White House, also said she was worried that people “will wash their hands of Afghanistan, and I think it'd be a terrible mistake."

Guys...she is a sweet lady...who "stands by her man".She's almost alone in that regard...but...give her credit.

@ Chad. There is only ONE messiah and his name is Jesus Christ.

Waiting in WV   February 28th, 2009 10:58 am ET

I, too am anxiously waiting for Nov. 2012 when we get the chance to send Obama back to the corruption of Illinois. Maybe he could run for governor?

Sherry   February 28th, 2009 12:12 am ET

All of you trailer-trash and low-life people that voted for Obama can just get a grip on yourself and stop worrying about Mr. and Mrs. Bush. You better start worrying about the new so called "messiah" that you just elected for our president and all of the money that he is spending. At least we were kept safe for eight years and the debt that was left from the last years is nothing compared to the debt that we will inherit when Obama gets through with us. Somewhere in the world there are retarded mules sitting around that are smarter than Obama and his democratic team! ONLY GOD CAN HELP US NOW THAT OBAMA IS IN THE HOUSE!

I wished Hannity or Beck would run for President.

All I know is May God have mercy on your souls, no matter what political affiliation you are. Have any of you read the Bible lately? It talks about the War in Iraq,(George got us into that one) and about a man that comes out of obscurity (could that possibly be Barack Obama?) that claims that he will do great things for the world and makes great promises (kind of peculiar how he promised "change" in his campaign) to the people and he is known all over the world, there are schools named after him, there is a mountain named after him, and for what? He is just a man. No more, no less. But in the Bible, it talks about the Antichrist being known all over the world and him standing in the temple mount that is now being built in Jerusalem claiming to be the messiah. When he was in a recent political rally or a conference people referred to him as "God" and his reply was "that's good" , "that's good." He has been referred to as "The One." I am not afraid because in the Bible it says "Be ye not afraid." But, in end times, it talks about how Governments will fall. Look around you, everyone! It is happening right before your eyes! Our economy is broke! The world's economy is crashing. Their will be food shortages in the future. States are talking about succeeding from the Federal Government. And it is all foretold in the Bible. I am neither here to criticize anyone or to compliment anyone. I am a Christian, and it also says in the Bible to bear witness to others. In the Bible it says the Eagle will fall. Do you know what the Eagle is? It is the national bird of the United States! My family and I are preparing! We live in a rural area, we are going to grow our own food, we pray, we homeschool our children, etc. I am not saying this is what you have to do. Just thought I would open some people's eyes. Do your homework about certain states succeeding from the union. And if you don't want to hear it from a religious perspective, today on Yahoo news, right in the headlines it said that 73% of people polled put more faith in people that politicians. I myself think that the roll of the Government has long lost its way and our forefathers are probably rolling in their graves right now. This is NOT what they intended our country to be! It lost its way about oh, 70 years ago. Or maybe 40 years ago, I can't give it a number, but we fought hard to keep our liberties from England, and well, I don't really think we have had much of any of our own civil rights in quite some time – either democratic or republican. But I don't know if Obama is the Antichrist or not. It also says in the Bible, to not judge lest ye be judged. I just know that we are absolutely in end times. And I welcome it. As far as Laura Bush is concerned, she is a beautiful woman, and that is all I have to say, and I will not judge her, nor will I judge any other human being on this earth. You can judge the sin, but you are not to judge people. We are all God's children. I love all of you and I hope that you learn to love each other in this dangerous world we live in. God Bless!

Good for the Bushes,
now maybe some people could start showing them some respect. You may not agree politically, but they were elected. And those who piss and moan are like the annoying whinny children everyone wants to shut up.

James in California   February 27th, 2009 11:37 pm ET

Come on quit your whining about what people are saying about Bush. It seems to be the same people complaining about what is being said about Bush had no problem mouthing off about President Clinton and First Lady Hillary when they left the Whitehouse.

Oh, that’s right those on the right still do mouth off about President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton.

Do as I say, not as I do. What comes around goes around but now the shoe is on the other foot.

That’s right the last eight years of Bush is not his fault after all it was Clintons fault we are in the mess we are in because Bush threw out Clinton’s intelligence reports and start from scratch to do it the Bush way.

Same way with tax cuts during time of war, which was brilliant leadership, NOT!

Out with old and in with the new. President Obama is bit of fresh air in Washington.

Now move on…

no-one "blames bush for 9-11" or "blames Bush for Katrina"... these were things that happened on his watch. What he is blamed for is the total incompetence in the way he handled these situations.. And the total incompetence – and corruption – that his administration enable and allowed in the last 8 years.

Now Republicans are hoping Obama fails and can't fix the mess he inherited. Duh – you want it to get even worse?

Donna From Minnesota   February 27th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Mrs Bush
You have such a great life, that you don't know how real people live.I have been without a job since last June, for reasons some of our work went overseas, which the last President did not try to put a stop to.HERE in a small town of Minn. The Steel Plants are laying off up to 500 people, what a disaster, just enjoy your parties and your new home.

The should spend the rest of their lives tending to the grave sites of all those killed in Bush's War. This Bush family has nothing but nerve.

LINDA KONSTANZER   February 27th, 2009 10:36 pm ET

President and Mrs, Bush, I was always told when people are talking about you they are leaving someone else alone. Thanks, for all you did for us as Americans and humans. Thanks, for freedom and generational blessings. May your days be filled with blessings and always remember ,the less said, is the best said. The media and the people will always have something to say, good or bad, it is the NEWS, any American knows this. It was not the BUSH term in office that caused this, it is the society, in which the American people, have chose to live in. I am a 62 year old single woman, who owns her own Kitchen and Bath Showroom, I started in August 2009, against all odds, but if you continue to live and provide for yourself, and do it with integrity and hard WORK and determination, a American can make it, with the help of our Lord Jesus Christ. He ,is in control anyway, he just allows us, to Be Still and know he is God. We have to listen. May you find peace ,with each new day. You did your Best and Laura stood with you, never forget this. Blessings to you and your family,Linda

She's not that bright because she married an arrogant idiot   February 27th, 2009 10:33 pm ET

First off, Laura Bush used to be a Democrat and became a republican AFTER she met "W". Just because she kept a smile on her face didn't hide the fact that she obviously was merely biting her tongue to keep from venting all that pent up anger against the absolute stupidest president ever, He wasn't just a very stupid president, he was a stupid human being. How can anybody see any good in the GOP who believe that Americans should only watch out for their own interests and leave the rest in the dust? Is that what Jesus taught? No. Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself. Bush, who claims to be God's man on earth, practiced the religion of feed the wealthy and don't pay any attention to those in real need. Laura, please take the time to re-educate your pathetic insignificant other. With a little luck, maybe you can convert him to a Christian Democrat.

JOE   February 27th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Why don't the cheapo buy some furniture with the billions he stole from this country...

I suppose what they stole from the White House is in Crawford...

CHEAP SOB...

She's exactly what a first lady should be like. She is greatly missed, but glad they are both doing well. I wish the former President and First Lady all the best.

c doty   February 27th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Wow! With the poor spelling and grammar in these posts, I'd question the appropriateness of many of you expressing more than shallow, oversimplified retorts about a man and woman who held/hold no malice towards you.

Few people want to be president because it is an overwhelming task, however, many are willing to play Monday morning quarterback in attacking this president. Yes, he made many mistakes in 8 years, but this new guy is on a pace to make George look like a genius!

You can't discourage business owners from making money by taxing them more heavily, AND expect them to grow their business..i.e., create jobs. Never has greater taxation on businesses led to PRIVATIZED job creation and expansion.

So, lay off the Bushes and focus on your Robin Hood, and remember to ask yourself, "Is this 'the change we (truly voted for) NEED.'"

seabee   February 27th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

what has ms.bush done with/about the books and reading material that she was going to work with the afgan women? Has she forgotten them in lieu of furniture? CB

MHoff   February 27th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

So the former first couple are back to their old routine, huh? Well, the good people of Dallas better use extra caution on the streets, because you never know when a drunken Laura might come barrelling through a stop sign. Also, if George is back to his old routine, shouldn't he be running a company into the ground right about now? Good riddance, Bushies – thanks for a wasted eight years.

It sounds like they planned for their life in Texas about like Bush planned for the Iraq war–as in "not at all". Sorry about the furniture, but there are a lot of people with more serious things on their minds than dining room tables.

Hey, we have to listen to you, why not listen to us? White House is so scared he will bring back the fairness doctrine to try and shut us up, no more free speech for decent folks. We are on the brink of socialist, no rights.

Once again you have a RICH WHITE woman trying to sound like she's living below the poverty line. Laura needs to get over herself with this stupid story. Did anyone notice her mentioning the Secret Service was next door? She isn't too bright just like her husband. I'm sure they are living it up with their dinner parties, meanwhile the country will take 5 years to repair his damage. It's bad enough that the Republicans ruined this country for 8 years now they want the new president and America to fail. Now, who is non patriotic George? Pseudo Christians!

Ahh, conservatives! George & Laura are not only a national disgrace, but clueless. They aren't even smart enough to disappear into oblivion. After all the damage George has caused with his lies and drunken arrogance (yes conservatives, you twice elected an alcoholic as president), they can only comment on dinner parties & furniture.

"Constance", you are the pot calling the kettle black. I'm sure George Bush can at least spell the word, "excellent". My fifth grader certainly can. FYI, there is no "a" in "excellent"!!! NOW who has no brain??? Next time, use a dictionary, honey.

We love and miss you! I see so many bitter, unhappy people, ready to crack, since you left. These people are full of hate, angry mob.

CharlesinDallas   February 27th, 2009 9:05 pm ET

I live in Dallas and wish these people had gone back to Crawford. The good thing about that is ...it was the place where the "paranormal" events took place...that is to say where George said he "looked into Vladimir Putin's soul". He looked into the former KGB Station Chief in Hamburg soul (Hamburg is a big city in Germany for the Rebublicans trying to follow) and saw he was "good". This former President has the same IQ as the current Governor of SC which is about 85. I wish they would go somewhere else.

Pat   February 27th, 2009 9:00 pm ET

Is it not a bit late to spew the hate? Hating the Bush's is similar to hating your ex-spouse after a divorce without any future personal or monetary entanglements. It certainly diverts your attention from what's really important for your present and future. Why are you afraid to go forward?

cowpie   February 27th, 2009 8:59 pm ET

Laura Bush is nothing but a fraud and a drunk. She killed a man by running a stop sign and never paid the price, then her husband killed millions and never paid the price. Nothing but a couple of drunken losers... no wonder they don't have a kitchen table.

Jamie   February 27th, 2009 8:55 pm ET

I love the Bushes and wish them all the best. Everyone who's still hating them should get over themselves and move on. What's done is done. Time to start thinking about how to fix the mistakes being made now.

Pat   February 27th, 2009 8:54 pm ET

At least they didn't steal a table and other furniture from the White House like the Clinton's did! I'm sure they can afford a table. Can't any of you folks lighten up? You all get so out of joint that Rush and Sean are just driving you crazy! LOL! I love it! If Sean ever runs for President, I'm voting for him! He's one of the smartest men around. I, for one, am a very tolerant person. I just have no tolerance for a man, elected (and this is questionnable) to the highest office in the nation, who (along with the rest of his administration) has done such an incredible amount of harm to the american people and the rest of the world.

It's nice to see that the evil ones or still around,GW just can out and admitted he fell off the wagon, and the first Lady never admitted killing that boy, all those years ago, some of you need to watch the history channel, yes thats right she committed vehicular murder, and it was swept under the carpet, because she didn't want to talk about it,as for the idiot thats calling everybody else idiots, you need help, the Bushs nor the cheneys gave a dawn about the american people, only their own GREEDY, butts. America has had enough of those kinds of people. Smart,GW, smart, this president was head of the "HARVARD LAW REVIEW", GW couldn;t restack the books in the law review. This president has to,try to undo the worse blunder in our history, now it's a big deal, because he goes to dinner with someone, what should have been asked wasWHO did George and Dick, go to dinner with, THAT" where we will find the MONEY, that has been stolen from us,some of you are really some sick people, seek help. May GOD,help US.

Maybe she did forget. They haven't let George watch the news for eights years, so she probably lived in the dumb bubble as well. Old habits die hard.

Its hilarious that everyone bashes former President Bush and they blame him for everything that has happened to this country. Yeah because Katrina was his fault, 9-11 was his fault, this was his fault, that was his fault. Hey but remember that former President Clinton could have taken Bin Laden out, but he didn't. Yeah, so had former President Clinton actually done his job then 9-11 may not have even happened then we would have never had to got to Iraq or Aghanistan. Oh and by the way, I am a Soldier.

George Bush is a bigger terrorist than Bin laden. Thousand he killed and injured in a wasteful war in Iraq and thousands he killed during Katrina. George Bush should notify the feds whenever he's leaving Texas .In other words he should be treated like a rapist.

Laura bush is a model for traditional housewife. Not everybody is interested in power or giving speeches! She is just behind his husband. there is nothing wrong with her~! it's very common life.

Donna   February 27th, 2009 8:33 pm ET

Sounds like a great many of the people who have written something on this blog have no idea or understanding of politics. You show your ignorance with every nasty word you write. If this is an example of a Democrat then I guess I don't want to be one. Take up reading and learn something about what is really going on in your country. It might surprise you. In the mean time why speak if all you have to say is crap.

Polly   February 27th, 2009 8:31 pm ET

Bill-
I do recall noticing that Obama changes his mind a lot. I don't know how he could have slept through one of Rev. Wright's sermons, with all the praising and yelling going on, but he must have, since he didn't remember what he preached about over the past 20 years.

Eileen   February 27th, 2009 8:28 pm ET

Who cares. Thank God the bushs are no longer in the white house. Bush did his damage – his comments and that of his wife are irrelevant.

I thin that Laura Bush is the best definition of a lady we have and certainly the most gracious, kindest and smartest First Lady. She knows how to stand by her man and show the world she loves. We could all learn from her style, manners, strength, responsiblity, and I could go on and on!

Lynn   February 27th, 2009 8:15 pm ET

@Teddy K

Mrs. Obama is not authorized to practice law in Illinois due to being "voluntarily" inactive. She's not perpetrating being an attorney. You are taking a fact that is "sorta" true and distorting it to be more "scandalous" than it really is. I bet even the Obamas didn't know that they were this "dramatic".

RONNIE   February 27th, 2009 8:15 pm ET

chuck   February 27th, 2009 8:11 pm ET

Lililac@ you should have seen what Laura ,George, daughters, and family were doing at the white house then you would shut up. George Bush's daughters were buying drugs with the country's wealth and drinking the most expensive wines in the world and champagne. the Bushes ran the white house and the country into the ground .

you liberals are such a joke. all of you who can do nothing but hate only show your true colors…. a bunch of intolerant fools who attack others who dont have the same beliefs as you all. make no mistake about it, I am 150% positive President Bush is far more intelligent than any of you. Its so laughable that Obama can stutter like a babbling idiot and also make mistakes when talking yet you all and your left wing media pay no attention to it but if someone you disapprove of does it you label them as dumb or an idiot. If you are looking for an idiot or a stupid person try looking in the mirror. (btw, I am not saying Obama is dumb… he simply makes mistakes like any of us) . You people who behave this way also show just how immature and unintelligent you are.

Funny? He's hysterical! He's 150% positive. Only fools are positive (Remember Bush was ALWAYS positive.) He refers to Obama as a babbling idiot. That man is intelligent. Bush is and always was an idiot.) And no, I am NOT a liberal Democrat. I am an Independent who voted for Bush in 2000 but am willing to admit my mistake.

Oh bill, if Bush were 150% more intelligent than all of us it would mean we were all a bunch of hamsters. Which we are not. Now, Bush is definitely RICHER than all of us, and also he is responsible for killing a lot more people, and he owes the American People a lot more money than we all do, so he really is beating us there, but in terms of intelligence, I am pretty sure the only person he beats is Sarah Palin.

President Obama realize that the wealthy has taken advantage of us like "Forever". Now poor little wealthy people don't want to pay taxes. Welcome to our world!!

I dont think any of us really know what President Bush had to deal with on a day to day basis. And I think in his heart he did what he felt was right. We may all disagree with him and u have your right to do so, but this is where I am proud to be an American and even though I may not agree with him on his decisions he was still my President and I do wish him and his wife the best.

To bill,

My "left-wing media" consists of a computer stream, a satellite radio and a hand full of subcriptions. The so called "Liberal Media" isn't liberal at all. If you don't believe me, try listening to Air America for a week. Try reading and issue of "The Nation" from cover to cover. Please try to do this, and then compare it to the evening news on ABC, NBC, or CBS. Please, make an honest comparison. Just because there is finally a progressive on tv (thank you MSNBC for the wonderful Rachel Maddow), does not mean all the media is slanted to the left. Oh, if only it were. I can get Rush Limbaugh on at least 20 different radio stations here (in central Ohio), probably more, oh and for the record, I do listen to him once in a while. I wouldn't feel right speaking out on an issue if I didn't try my best to understand both sides. Give it a try sometime. Please.

If I hear one more Rep. blame our mess on Clinton, Carter and 2 years of Dem. congress I am going to scream. Do some research. I was born in late 1979...Carter left office in 1981. That means in my life the GOP has had the oval office for a total of 20 years(8 years of Reagan, 4 with Bush I, and 8 with Bush II)...that only leaves 10 years (roughly) for the Dems to be in power. So you are telling me that the Dems have ruined the country in my 30 years of life with only 10 years in office? You are crazy. If the GOP could fix this country in the extra ten years they have had in office then they are incompetent...period! The math doesn't lie. Oh yeah...scream the democratic congress for the last 2 years...what about the 12 years the GOP held congress before that? I am so confused....please some Rep explain to me how this works. Stop drinking the Kool-aid and do some actuall reading and research for yourself.

Michelle Obama's law license is on suspension, meaning it can be reactivated, also meaning she does not have to pay malpractice and licensing fees if she is not actively practing law. It was not "revoked"

Thanks for the laugh!

slp   February 27th, 2009 7:40 pm ET

God bless you Mrs. Bush. This country does not realize what a great president your husband was but one day will. He was not perfect but he sought God's will in each decision he made and truly loves this country. The bible says that in the end times wrong will be considered right and right will be considered wrong. Just remember that God put the calling on your husband's life to be president for a reason. I believe that reason was to lead us through the terrible times after 9/11. Enjoy your new life. You deserve it.

Miguel Perez   February 27th, 2009 7:40 pm ET

American people are just becoming so so ignorant, I came to this country because of the traditional American values, self reliance, hard work but surprise, American people, I would say liberal Americans are just ignorants, rude and they like to cry like babies, most of you lefty people do not like to work hard, you want the government to give you everything because you are not capable to do anything for youself, I am not surprise that you prefer to confiscate money from other American people who work harder than you to pay for your pizza and tv cable, keep watching tv, and you are going to be the best liberal person possible. I forgot, please complain about Bush family everyday to make your day complete

Laura   February 27th, 2009 7:40 pm ET

You people who are continuing to bash Pres. Bush are pathetic. He isn't president any more...get over it. And by the way, those of you who are complaining that Bush ruined the economy are even more pathetic. In case you missed it, Congress has control of the purse in the United States and for the last 6 years Congress has been controlled by Democrats. After every State of the Union Address by Bush the stock market jumped. Every time Obama opens his mouth, our stock market drops again. My 401K NEVER lost money when Bush was in office. It has lost money every day since Obama has been there. Furthermore, Obama has just introduced the largest deficeit spending since WWII. We have to spend money to save money?! What kind of genius idea is that? I guess we really do have monkeys running the government. Obama is the one of the biggest jokes we've ever had. Claiming change and then re-hiring almost 80% of Clinton's staff.

It's truly amazing to see all the vicious and mean-spirited remarks by those Obama supporters who have supposedly espoused "tolerance" and eschewed the alleged mean-spiritedness of Republicans. You're no better than the pot calling the kettle black. . .

Remember, this is Laura Bush, not her husband. She wasn't voted into office, didn't make one decision regarding policy, didn't veto or approve any bill . . . yet people are being pretty vicious toward her for simply answering a question that was asked her about what life was like now . . .
Why don't some of you grow up, quit acting like you're in junior high, and contribute a somewhat thoughtful and respectful response to the article. If not, please keep your 11-year-old thoughts to yourself.

Though, waiting for your new dining room set in your mansion can be overwhelming. Sigh.

You know the answer yourself too.

Gwyn   February 27th, 2009 7:19 pm ET

Mrs. Laura Bush is a fine woman. She was probably asked some very polite questions. As she has always done, she responded politely, without much political shading.
I am no fan of the Bush administration, but the man was President. It is an office that deserves respect. Additionally, he didn't single-handedly destroy America. Every mistake, every flaw in judgment, every bad call was backed by an ever-so-willing congress.
Now that there is a new president, and a different congress. If you want to talk politics, focus on that administration and what they are doing. Focus on House of Representatives and the Senate and what they are doing.
Former President and Mrs. Bush are now out of the political picture. This article isn't really political. It's a snippet from teh society page. They get to worry about things like having enough chairs when they invite people over for dinner.
There's nothing wrong with that.

BP92   February 27th, 2009 7:19 pm ET

Robert,

No need to lose your cool and yell.

No ones imperfections are greater or lesser than anyone else's. You are correct that the effect of W's mistakes are far greater than ours because of the position he held. Laura on the other had was just supporting her husband. I think most husbands would expect that. She wasn't involved in the day-to-day operation of the country.

My point is that all of us are slaves to our imperfections and it does nothing to rake it all through the mud after it is too late to do anything about it. Better to look forward and make the best of a bad situation.

All these people in this discussion about everything that was done wrong are only making themselves more miserable re-living it over and over. And some are downright disrespectful and mean spirited.

I too have lost my job as well as 60% of my retirement at the age of 55. But what will being a victim do for me? I choose to not be a victim. I try to choose a higher ground. I do my best to get over it and move on because in this time and space there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

I Deplore Ignorance and Arrogance   February 27th, 2009 7:10 pm ET

Ignorance said:

All those that think Bush is uneducated please stop making those ignorant comments. Bush has an ivy league education. He also was smart enough to get elected, take your money and use it to make him, his family and friends rich, so who is the dumb person!

GEORGE BUSH IS UNEDUCATED

Way back when, Yale & other Ivy schools did not kick you out if you managed to keep a C grade level.

Unlike most attendees, Bush was a double-legacy into Yale (as well as Skull & Bones legacy), so the entry requirements were dramatically lower for him.

To say that Bush IS educated, one would have to show ANYTHING that he has done that demonstrated competence.

Every company he ran LOST money except the baseball team.

He wasn't smart enough to get elected; he was clever enough to find Karl Rove and STEAL the election TWICE.

George W. Bush was quite arrogant. Arrogance is merely ignorance matured.

Here is hoping that the Bush/Cheney criminal regime are hauled before the world court on war crimes. Other crimes against only America will be prosecuted here.

Has anyone ever noticed that Republicans claim to be Christians yet rarely exhibit any Christian behaviors on a routing basis?

Has anyone ever noticed that the real Christians are the "quiet" Christians would let their deeds demonstration their real values.

Loud Christians are ususally just pretending to be Christians.

Hey Mrs. Bush – Don't worry about not having a kitchen table – many people in the USA don't have a house or a roof over there heads!
And they also don't live in multi-million dollar houses – just call up the furniture store and they will bring you whatever you want.

Hold on there "Jeez",

As a child we sang a song at church that said "The Father up above, is looking down with love, be careful little mouth what you say". Whether you are someone with a little mouth or a big mouth, that song is still true today.

Calling any woman a name, (whether Laura Bush or Michelle Obama) simply lets people know exactly how you were brought up. Having people who talk like you in the world, really makes me worry about our children.

You made the most sensible comments of all. So many people are spewing hate on both sides. In fact, they are so out of control, they don't even take time to proof read what they write before clicking on the submit button. How can this country get on the right path. Thinking that it's "our way or no way" is not the foundation of this country. It's a system of checks and balances. Don't take that away from us! We are lucky to be in a country where there are no walls-yet.

common sense   February 27th, 2009 6:54 pm ET

I have read so much nonsense I don't know where to start. First if you have lost your job. I am sorry. You cant blame people for your lot in life unless you are willing to look in the mirror. This country has gone from a can do country to a country that wants to find someone to blame. There is only one way to get back on your feet. Self Responsibility! There are so many opportunities in the world today there are no excuses! I see them everyday and yes it may not be the perfect situation but there is no one person to blame.

As for Bush , there is no one else you would have wanted at the helm of this country after 9/11.He made mistakes but if you want to blame him you need to lump Nancy Pelosi , Harry Reid, and Barack in that group. I am tired of hearing I inherited this.. Last time i check he was 1 of 100 senators the last few years. Once again blaming someone else for their problems.

Obama as president is off to a horrible start but soon he will let Nancy Pelosi she is not the president . He will get a backbone soon and then we can make a judgement on him.

Irregardless despite it's controversy is in fact a word used quite regularly in North America. It may be considered a nonstandard word and an illogical double negative, however you'll find it in many dictionary's with the caveat that one should use regardless instead. Irregardless the word police can officially stand down on this one, Websters Dictionary and a host of others already have.

While I am thrilled that W is gone, Laura Bush should be left alone. She did do alot for others. She was very involved in making lives better for thousands of women in Afghanistan and made many un-televised trips to New Orleans after Katrina to visit the schools and she brought money to rebuild libraries. Rather than bad mouth her, we should all be educating ourselves better on how government works and finding solutions rather than being ignorant and spouting off ideologies – which only makes morons like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Colter richer.

George and Laura are just people. They are imperfect like everyone else on earth. Except they had the guts to expose their life and decisions to worldwide scrutiny.

How many of you could live under such a microscope? Instead, why not respect the office of the President and honor those who have had to make a sacrifice that can only result in someone being disappointed.

How many of you made no mistakes, misjudgements or dumb statements in the last 8 years. Yeah, that's what I thought, not one of you.

Son, were you raised in a barn with the pigs where manners didn't matter?
I wasn't a Bush fan nor am I an Obama fan, but I know enough to be polite. I was taught manners while growing up and to this day use them. Something tells me you either were not taught manners or slept during the entire lesson. This is someone's wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Show a little respect even if you don't agree with them. You might find you like life a little better and have more friends.

MORE TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN

Mr. President, if you had caught Osama bin Laden yesterday, would you be sending 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan? It may not be the most important thing in the world to catch bin Laden. There is more than one kind of warfare. Osama used USA planes to take down the World Trade Center. Pretty smart if you look at it from a point of view that everything is fair in war. But is bin Laden being much smarter now by sucking the USA into a black hole in Afghanistan? Generals are somewhat like football players: they know how to run the same plays that they learn in high school and nothing more. If my street finder can direct my car to any location, and if you can find a cell phone in a jungle, and with all of our satellites, technology, our missile systems, our bombers and our Navy—why should we ever go on a war mission that we can’t get back home in time for dinner with the family? Mr. President, don’t get bogged down in Afghanistan like President Johnson did in Vietnam and miss a great opportunity to make America a great place for everyone. Anyway you would be more likely to find Osama in Saudi Arabia than in Afghanistan or Pakistan.

It just seems that he couldn't win and now with Obama it seems like he can do no wrong!!! People are blind when it comes to him. I live in Dallas and went to see the 2.1 million dollar ranch home in Highland Park. It is a joke and the neighborhood is old and has cracks in the road. The secret service live in a 1.3 million ranchhome that we , the tax payers ,are paying for. What on earth was Laura thinking when she bought this house. It is a tear down that needs rebuilt. Only the land is valuable. I am sure now that she made the comment of having no furniture, the bush lovers will come to their rescue. Maybe they can hit some estate sales in Dallas.

I think that W will have a difficult time raising 300M for his Library. Who will donate that kind of $$ when we are trying to keep our homes from forecloser. The people in Dallas are not very fond of him lliving here.

If I ever see him in Dallas, I may throw up my finger at him.
If the rest of the world was watching the State of the Union address, why were the Bush's not watching. Something is very wrong. He never even watched his own movies, the W and Farenheight 911. I guess the nighmare would cause sleepless nights in Dallas.

Thank goodness he is not our President any more.

Under 1 month of Obama, not so much better off. In fact, no raise this year and lost 30% of retirement income. This country is in for a world of hurt the next four years.

Sorry to break it to you bonehead, that happened before Obama was in office.

To John: "I completely agree with you Greg, 100% . Only the undecuated people that gripe about how life wasn't handed to them complain about the last 8 years, maybe if people took the time to bust their butts to get an education, like I have while working, then maybe you wouldn't feel you need a socialist/marxist president."

Really, John? Are you that ignorant? I mean you can't spell uneducated. You must really have no contact with the working poor that I see everyday. They work 2-3 jobs with no health insurance. Kids working to support their families. No family-sustaining wages. A sick day is catastrophic. People don't want everything handed to them but they want a chance to get ahead. Bush didn't care at all about these people. Obama was one of these people. He lived and worked with these people. He cares about all people.

Businesses need to invest in their their enterprises to grow. Countries need to invest in their people.

You obviously don't know what Marxism/Socialism is. I suggest that you read a few books. If you truly understood these ideologies, you wouldn't be so semantically challenged.

Personally I'm tired of people who say they have earned what they have but yet are so reluctant to see others have a chance to attain it. That's the fundamental difference between you, John and Obama supporters. We believe every person in this country matters and should have the equal chance you have to earn success like you have. If you were around the urban community where I live, you would know that under Bush, so many chances were shut off. Republicans want to close the door on those not in their circle.

Really John. Get a clue!

Wow TCM you are starting to sound a little Timmoty McVeyish. And we all know how he ended up. You must admitt that Bush stunk up the office. If he did not do so bad we would not have Obama so you should thank him for that. If Obama is all the things you say he is how did he out smart, out manuver, and out think all of your nice white heros? If he is sub par your guys must be sub sub par. Stick that in you pipe and smoke it.

For those of you that voted for the Democratic president, in 4 years please tell us how you feel when half your paycheck if you are employed is taken for taxes, when you are told where you can get medical services and when you can receive them, and you wake you and realize that this country is now headed toward socialism in the greatest sense of the word. The govt now owns almost 40% of citibank, the education secretary is looking at our children attending school for longer times, and you all believe that President Bush is totally responsible for the mess we are in. What about all the liberal spending of the Clinton administration and the Democratic controlled Congress the last couple of years of Bush's administration. At least the world knew not to mess with the U. S. and I'm not sure they feel the same with the new president. God bless George W. and Laura Bush and may this country survive until 2012 and elect a new president.

The only way to move on is to right the wrongs done by the previous administration. Are you stating that you wish them to get away with the crimes they have committed? If someone breaks into your house and shoots your loved one, are you just going to bury them and "move on?" I think a little justice is in order. Justice for people who have denied justice.

This IS news!! I didn't know that George W. COULD read, so I'm amazed to hear he's reading a book– especially on Kindle. Does he really know how it works?

Maybe he can get on the "internets" and read up on the story about the lawsuit filed by the great grandson of Indian Chief Geronimo. Supposedly GW's grandpappy Prescott Bush helped steal the remains & burial trappings of Geronimo from his grave in Oklahoma and secreted them away in the confines of the Skull & Bones club's secret storage spot on the Yale campus. I'm not making this up... it was in several papers & on the internet yesterday. The story came to light when someone at Yale discovered an old letter written by a Skull & Bones member back then. The letter was found in the library at Yale and detailed the event. Very interesting. So GW's heritage goes back to an alleged grave robber!

Of course life is great for the Bush. They looted America, gave big business the shot in the arm they wanted. They allowed banks to write legislation that caused Americans great harm. They invaded a country for oil and now Big Oil is back in Iraq after 38 years of being run by the state. This was the actual goal of the war in Iraq, gaining control of the 2nd largest oil reserves on the planet.

They stabbed America in the back and she has the nerve to say 'Life is great."
Bring on the war crimes tribunal. We must look forward while righting the wrongs of the previous administration. These people are the cowards, and anyone who does not wish these criminals prosecuted must be in bed with them, ie Sen. Leahy.

Do you really expect Obama to turn around the catastrophic mess created by Bush in only one month. Moreover, the rollercoaster is still on it's way down when Obama took over so it's hard to stop the momentum. Why don't you give him at least 3 months and then you can toss blame around. I'm sure you gave Bush his fair blame for the situation right?

To independant, I see what you are saying, and I wish we as a country could do that. However, the Right and Left in this country have so very different views on how history played out and how to fix things. The conservatives believe that FDR made the Great Depression worse with his New Deal, while the liberals believe the exact opposite. While both sides agree that what brought the country out of the Great Depression was WWII, they don't agree on why. The liberals believe that it was the increased spending for WWII that brought us out of the depression (ie – more government spending worked), but conservatives just don't believe that. Liberals believed Reagonimcs made the recessions of the 80's and current times. Conservatives believe Reagonimics are responsible for the boom of the 90's and possible the 2010's (if the economy turns around).

Both sides are diametrically opposed and believe that the other point of view will only make things worse. (Conservatives: Tax cuts = always good. Gov spending = always bad. Liberals: Tax cuts = didn't work for last 8 years. Gov spending = worked last time.) How can we reconcile those 2 opposing views? Also, it's kind of hard to work together when one side reaches out a hand, and the other refuses to shake it.

To lead one has to make the decisions that appear to be best at the time for the nation and long term gains and I believe that Bush and his gang did what they thought was best for the country at the time, They were just wrong. Obama will make some wrong decisions and he has recognizes it by saying that we cannot be sure the stimulus will work.

Its definetly depressing to see how divided we are but not surprising, you could see it coming, there really was zero leadership in the last eight years and to see vets ignored and used for campaigning, madoffs destroying the country without any oversight what so ever, our foreign relations deteriorated, job loss, the list goes on....its enough to get a little stressed over, and to see people still defending that, is just sad.

Where do you people come from? What the heck are you on?

All of you are such idiots!!!!! Repubs party have become the party for cold-hearted individuals. What is so wrong with extending a helping hand to someone who is in need? Pres. 1. It's NOT IN THE BILL no matter what Sean Hannity says.
2. The train doesn't run through Reid's "district" as he is a Senator. Senators don't have districts.
3. The train would run straight through the heavily Republican CA Congressional district 41, seated by Rep. Jerry Lewis, and heavily Republican NV congressional district 2, seated by Rep. John Heller

And it would provide a pathway from the #2 city in this country to the #1 tourist destination. Not exactly a Bridge to Nowhere.

Bush wasn't that bad, and Obama is still unproven. If real democracy survives in the middle east (Afghanistan, Iraq) for the first time... ever, then Bush will be viewed by history as genious. Those today who can only see RIGHT NOW, are very short-sighted.

As far as Obama, I love his ideologies for the country. I hope my taxes don't go through the roof, I hope he does well. Because if he does, then chances are the United States will be doing well.

On the Bush retirement, good god people, be happy for them. Single toughest job in the world, many difficult decisions, and a stressful life for the both of them. Be happy for them now as people.

Good luck with that!!!!

This is what they should have been doing for the last 8 years. Holding dinner parties with their rich friends. Oh yeah, that's all they did do....while Darth Cheney worked his magic to expand the dark side.

Independent   February 27th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

I grew up behind the Wall and what got us through and helped us get rid of the regime was being united, left and right, religious and atheist, north and south, educated and labour. It is sad to see people so divided in such a difficult time. What will bring this great country down is not Bush or Obama but people's inability to raise above their ideology. Saying that Bush was a nazi or that Obama is a Marxist is plain ignorant. It wasn't left or right that chased the British out of here. It wasn't left or right who helped defeat Hitler's regime. It wasn't left or right who build one of the strongest countries in the world. It wasn't left or right who send a man on the moon. It was the American people who were able to see a greater goal, who worked together, and were not blinded by their political or religious views.

Rick Sutter, I guess it's all in how you look at it. I don't believe in guns, would never own one, won't let one in my house. However, I do not have the right to tell family, friends, or neighbors that they cannot own one. Jennifer in CA   February 27th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

I just wanted to throw in that Bush is the reason we have Obama today. If the country had been well run, we had not squandered so much money and lives in Iraq, and we had not been encouraged by our President in 2001 to be patriotic by spend money we didn't have, the people of the United States would have been as apathetic as ever and not voted the change into office. The democrats and Obama have control of Congress and the Presidency because the Republican controlled congress of prior years and Bush ran this country into the ground.

Laura Bush deserves her peace and quiet away from the lime-light. The former president G.W. Bush will have the rest of his life to wonder what his legacy will be.

We are all held accouintable in the worlds eyes until we actually hold the disgusting human garbage who created such attrocities are brought to justice. From George Bush, Dick Cheney all the way down to thes coward soldiers who tortured and I DEFINATELY include those Soldiers who stood back and watched.

We need a monument erected so we never forget the disgrace those military members brought on America. Hopefully to include the names of every single one. Again including the cowards who sat around watched these attrocities take place.

You will all realize one day that he did do some good for this country. He at least respected the US and wore the flag pin. Obama would not wear the american flag on his lapel till the end and would not salute the flag. TO me that is the Biggest disgrace to our country . Oh he will wear now but beware he will will make just as many mistakes. Watch your money folks. The comments here based on LB's article simply proves my point about most people. They are always looking for someone to blame but themselves. Subprime loans are bad news and never should have been allowed because people getting them have no self control. Oh, and by the way subprime is a gift from Clinton not Bush. Take responsibility for yourself. If I lost my job now the last person I would blame is Obama.

V.Norris   February 27th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Just another proof that neither of them had any business being in the White House to begin with. And wonderful for you, Mrs. Bush. Your life is great and you don't care what the President says. Like you don't care what state the country is in, its people and its almost 5000 military families who no longer have their loved ones with them. Good job! Keep giving dinner parties, making 150K giving speeches written by someone else. Enjoy your life. Just try not to get too much on TV. Americans have real news to watch.

If it's because you're miserable and you believe she should share in that fate for some reason, that's pretty ridiculous. My life is fine, and I currently struggle with finances and job situations. Life is hard right now, but that doesn't mean it has to be miserable. Your state of mind is a choice. Just rise above your circumstances.

I completely agree with you Greg, 100% . rena   February 27th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

Well people, the damage is done. There's no need in us giving ourselves a heart attack over something we can't change. The best thing most of us can do is forgive Bush for what he has done, this is for your sake. Because if you walk around with this hate and anger in your heart it only affects you, Bush doesn't have a clue to what you are going thru. He will have to answer to a greater judge than us, and that is God. Prayfully for his sake he has asked God to forgive him, but according to the word of God he would need to apologize and ask the American people to forgive him for what he has done as well, in order for God to forgive him. But right now, it seems as if he is walking in a lot of pride. I know we all make mistakes, but you are a much better man when you are able to admit to your mistakes, something Bush has not done. So, I pray that God would convict his heart and that he would respond for his on soul, it is in trouble.

You are so full of hatred and jealousy. Liberals preach hate and are the real ones who have their head in the sand. Democrats are all about control, not bi-partisanship. The Republicans were too nice, to a fault.

I echo the sentiments of others: I am very nervous about what those in power have in store for our country. Laws and rules are being changed that many will not realize. The basic foundations of our government are truly in danger.

Lacy   February 27th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Laura, as usual, is too generous. She is a class act and the country hasn't had a first lady with her charm for ages. Their life sounds like what we all long for, but with Obama in the White House, all of our lives will be sorely affected by his thoughtless moves so far. The Bush's will be considered "rich people" and they'll pay for it. Unlike some of Obama's people who don't pay up (unless they get caught). Laura probably didn't watch Obama's speech, besides not being interested like me, but because he blasted her husband and continues to blast him every time he makes a move. Why would she want to listen to him any more? Me, I watched reruns of Jerry Seinfeld.

Sheri   February 27th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

When was the last time all you haters wrote your own representatives? Things don't just happen by the swoosh of a pen....they have to be voted on by yours (and mine) reps. I don't see how a ridiculous plan for a rail from Las Vegas to Los Angeles is any different from some of the economic mistakes Bush made. We're talking BILLIONS of dollars! Again, the "leaders" get what they want while some of us still can't find a job. I'm not saying Bush is completely innocent in this economic equation, but we have to remember that the Republicans attempted SEVERAL times to put a stop to the never-ending subprime fiasco that pretty much, is the root of the situation we are dealing with.

From the LA Times:
"Tell me how spending $8 billion in this bill to have a high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and Las Vegas is going to help the construction worker in my district," House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio complained as he and all his fellow Republicans voted against the stimulus. Republicans cited the rail project in accusing Democrats of breaking their word to keep the bill free of pet projects.

Of course, Harry Reid insists that not ALL the $$ is going to the rail which is located in HIS DISTRICT.

Karen - Missouri   February 27th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

I am for Obama ........... but this joke was to good to not post.

Stimulus Payment Info.

"This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic  Stimulus Payment. This is a Very exciting new program that I will explain  using the Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic  Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government wi ll  send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this  money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is  giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What  is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV Set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If you spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If you purchase a computer it will go to India.
If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).
If you buy a car it will go to Japan.
If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan.

If you pay your credit cards off, it will go to bank management bonuses and they will hide if offshore.  Same with stock investment.

Instead, you can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spending it on prostitutes, beer and wine (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only American businesses still operating in the US.

Buying new furniture, having parties, that sound so sweet. I'm glad you are thinking of us poor underprivileged people who have to work for the rest of our lives while you sit there with that stupid grin on your face having tea.

Beverly, NYC   February 27th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Poor lady can't be easy stuck with that dolt for the rest of your life.
Maybe some Rich Republican will "donate" furniture. You have 4 more years to catch President Obama's speeches. I understand, it's still too fresh, you probably would have looked at the C student to your right and found him lacking.

cindylu   February 27th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I love the part where she says "life is great".

Regardless of how you view the politics, the Former President George W. and First Lady Laura are classy, gracious people. Much more so than anyone can say of most of you on this blog.

I can see Canada from my house!   February 27th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

To Jon:

President Bush was in charge for 8 years. If he is not ultimately responsible for the economy and the well-being of the nation, who was? Congress is charged with oversight, where was Bill Frist and the rest of the Republican Caucus?

Do any of you Repubs remember the phrase, " The Buck Stops Here"?

Larry   February 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

It bothers me to hear so much bitterness about our former President. He is human and nobody is perfect. I am just glad we had a President with some morals and stood for what he believed. Let the man retire in peace because he sure hasn't had an easy 8 years!

jim   February 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

It's amazing how many of these people do not like the Bushes, but seem to have taken time to read the story. Why is that? And to you ignorant masses, the mess we find ourselves in today, is because so many of the American people overspent their incomes and lived beyond their means for decades! Bush did not cause that. You made your own beds, so to speak.

D   February 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

So why don't all of you Bush haters tell us what YOUR president has done so far? NOTHING!!!!

beckyinOhio   February 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

OK, CNN, I will try this one more time......

I am a liberal and see NO point in bashing former first lady Laura Bush. She loves her husband whether we do or not.
Good luck, Laura, you were a gracious First Lady just as Michelle Obama is now.

CNN moderation purgatory...   February 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

You people disgust me.
Leave Laura alone.
Her husband may have been a tard, but she hasn't done anything to any of you.

And those that are putting the blame for EVERYTHING over the past 8 years on Bush... get a clue.
He was President, not King.
Congress and the American people deserve their fair share of blame as well.

Grow the hell up.

Marc   February 27th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

You know it's funny, Laura Bush might have been the only bright spot in the entire administration and some of you venom spewing idiots are bashing her.

People never cease to amaze me.

Brian Ward   February 27th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

“Life is great.” Three words which encapsulate everything that was wrong with the Bush administration. While Bush and Laura are off living in their own little fantasy world back in Texas, the rest of us are still dealing with all the problems that they created for us. Here's the disconnect: times are tough out here in reality, but they say that life is great as if there's no problem at all.

Ellie   February 27th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Laura, please don't insult our intelligence.

YOU and George Jr. have no clue on what "struggling" truly means after your husband royally screwed the American middle class for 8+ years. The American families are paying a HIGH price for your husband's incompetence.

So what if you don't have furniture? Millions don't have JOBS or HOMES or can't afford to FEED their families.

Are we suppose to feel sorry because you couldn't buy HIGH END designer furniture? Does the American people look stupid to you?

We have MORE IMPORTANT things to worry about than your lack of furniture.

Looking forward to 2012 to kick Obama out of office

Sniffit   February 27th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

@ Raymond

Hey genius. FLOTUS stands for First Lady of the US. You can't make a speach TO FLOTUS if you are FLOTUS. More to the point, Laura had her causes, made speaches about them, talked to appropriate agencies about them, etc., and we generally respected her for it....so you can stuff your obvious fear of a powerful black woman.

Charles Atlanta   February 27th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Well.. hope he slept well, reminding him many innocent Iraqi dead bodies and dead American soldiers because of his rush decision and poor planning going to war. And where is Osama bin Laden? Besides, under his administration, our national debt doubled to 11 trillions.

New Yorker   February 27th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

It is true that President Bush made some mistakes. However, it is not fair to blame him for all that has gone wrong in this country. His leadership was admirable during the post Sept 11 days. W is a good person and had to work under extremely difficult circumstances. Criticism of Laura Bush is very unfair. She is an honorable person and conducted herself with dignity. Her dresses were worthy of a first lady. I do have great admiration for Michelle Obama, but she can do better things than inviting a few chefs to the white house. Where did all the zeal and fervor go? I am sure that our first lady can get involved in a few worthy causes such as the HIV in Africa, improving the right rights of women around the globe etc. Please dress appropriately at least! Americans deserve better than a show of armpits.

JimB   February 27th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

I wish they had worked harder to destroy more of you losers. I say, 8 weeks on unemployment, put a gun in your hand, and ship you off to Iraq. If you get killed, it's one less hungry mouth to feed.

BC   February 27th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Since when does the President have all of the power to do what he wants. The Democratic controlled congress had time to do something about this, if they were so concerned, for years. It is all a power game and those in power manipulate the real facts, to the dismay of the public. It is in the Dems best interest for the country to be in a "mess." Then they are the heroes. If Bush and the Republicans had found the cure for cancer, the Democratic controlled congress would have squelched it until their man took office.

It is disgusting, but true.

evilwman   February 27th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

i have never seen as much hate as i do on the CNN comments.

just freakin get over it and quit whining about everything. yeah, the country is in a mess, financially and otherwise – but crying and putting ALL the blame on one man is not only hateful, it is mornic!
so you lost your job....lots of people have lost jobs...people have been losing jobs for decades!!!!!!!!!
did it ever occur to you that the GREED of many companies and their CEO's could have a part in this mess???????????????????
ie banking, real estate, wall street.
if you think ONE man had a hand in ALL of it..........well, there is just no hope left for this country. time to find a cave somewhere.....

duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Cathyflip , Virginia   February 27th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Most of you need to get a grip!!! "W" made honorable decisions based on facts he was provided with. Have you forgotten that it was Bill Clinton who lifted the strict banking oversight guidelines in 1999, that has led us to this mess today. And Barney Frank who was a leader & several others in the currect administration who were the backers of giving bank loans to anybody & their brother...Odviously,
no one in your families have every served their country & defended our freedom....I will pray for you & your misguided thoughts & quips based on a lack of the real facts.....

Laura is the best and she has a godly man by her side.

Bob from NY   February 27th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Got to laugh. We'll be having this same conversation in 4 years when Barack is out of the whitehouse after. Maybe we can use the same comments we used when slick Willie pulled up his pants and left office.

Iowa   February 27th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Laura, I think you are the best- a real class act. Unfortunate you married the idiot of the world. What were you thinking?

Johnboy   February 27th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Laura is a decent human being. The fact that she slept with the enemy should only be held against her if she starts mouthing the sick GOP line. As long as she has the good sense to remain quiet on politics then we should respect her privacy.

Johnnieg   February 27th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Poor Laura ..........No furniture for her new 2 million dollar home .

Arnie   February 27th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I can't believe CNN actually posts comments from some of these America haters. You people are so blind to the truth, it's apalling. The elitist liberals of this country are to blame for the mess we are in now, not Bush. And now these liberals are in control of all branches of govt. I still love this country, but I'm scared for our future.

Ellie   February 27th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Uuuuuuugh..... Laura Bush needs to STOP with the "sappy" BS. We all know she and George Jr. are NOT suffering in the least bit. They don't have a clue about the suffering of the middle class who got "royally screwed" by the Bush Administration.

Laura Bush needs to STOP playing the "poor me" role. Americans are sick and tired of hearing it from a woman who has never had to "struggle" in her life and a husband who comes from a greedy OIL wealthy family!!!

Unless Laura is shopping on food stamps or making sandwiches from WIC Government cheese, she needs to SHUT THE HELL UP!!!

Iowa   February 27th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

For someone who is the "new kid on the block". He has done more in 30 days than ANY other president has done in 4 years. It is unfortunate that we pick apart every word, get defensive. this president can't sneeze without it showing up in the paper. His administration can't sneeze. I don't ever recall the American people critize scruntinize everything he and the staff does. Why weren't we that attententive with Bush? If we had been, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today.

Just keep watching and praying for him. He is awesome, will he make mistakes, of course- but not the critical ones, he is too smart for that. America clearly doesn't understand this man. He is a gift from God- Support him- HE IS OUR PRESIDENT, and needs support. Why are we trying to tear him down? Come on America- don't be a coward!

dont drop the soap Georgie   February 27th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Kevin in Ohio   February 27th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Did any of you left-wing fanatics stop and think that maybe Laura Bush is quite simply a very classy lady? She defined what we would like to see as a first lady. I hope Michele O can even come close.

Hope   February 27th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Didn't your Momma's teach you, that if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all! Your negative comments do not help anyone, it only shows your true character. Spread LOVE not HATE! Our world will be a better place to live!

Dan   February 27th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Wow. The Bush-haters are really a nasty bunch. Like it or not, he was president and through one of the worst American life taking events since Pearl Harbor.
Please show some respect. The same kind of respect you are expecting (demanding) from those who didn't vote for Obama to have now.
Walk the walk and talk the talk or just keep such nastiness to yourselves. The rest of the civilized world could do without your rhetoric and hate.

jon   February 27th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

to richie, bush did not fire you. you lost your job because you did not perform at a high enough level to keep. in other words, you added no value to your employer.

How many speeches did Laura Bush make to the EPA and FLOTUS??

ZERO!

Because her HUSBAND was the President and she has class.

Bill   February 27th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

The only person who washed their hands of Aghanistan was her husband.

Simmy   February 27th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

"simply forgot" says the former First Lady. I call that "selective forgetfulness." Anyway, God bless you, Mrs. Bush.

Raymond,

Truth be told, your type labeling is getting pretty old and lame. It shows true "Class" to be able to meet and greet the people that help to run the government, while also portraying intelligence, style and charisma. That is a very un-elistist move. Being detached from the people because your husband is the President exudes elistism. You've got it a little backwards, my man.
P.S....It's not unclassy to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   February 27th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Laura says she and her husband are back to their old routine which means being very rich and loving it while the rest of the nation that her husband left in a mess is going down in flames.

arithmetic is liberal   February 27th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Maybe Dick should have bought him a violin for Christmas so he could fiddle while our economy burned.

Nice to see that "Let them Eat Cake" Laura is settling in to her new life.

C Spurgeon   February 27th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I hopen they both enjoy their new life and fade into obsurity. Wish them well but very sad at the state they have left this country in.Thank gopd their time is over and they can go retire.

Joyce A. Higgins   February 27th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

It is a sin what her husband, along with Cheney, have done to this Country. I do not feel sorry for her – not one bit – she has, unlike so many of us, choices. And about her forgetting to listen to President Obama's speech the other night – yeah, right. George probably told her she had best not listen to it. The entire BUNCH, Cheney, Bush, Condi, Rumsfeld – the who Administration under GWB (including their wives as they went along with it), should be brought up on charges – CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY. I am thoroughly disgusted.

Angie in Pa   February 27th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Does Laura even Understand or Know the Disater and Mess Bush left

SFA Grad   February 27th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

I see the "bitter bunch" is out in full force today. Sad...so sad.

Philip   February 27th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Good for the Bushes. W was a disaster as a president, but I honestly don't think he's a bad man at heart. I wish the two of them well. I mean, what am I going to do, hope he ends up on trial at the Hague? At this point, thankfully, he's harmless.

Ken   February 27th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

These people should go back to where they came from!

Woohoooo!   February 27th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Raymond,

Me thinks that you wouldn't recognize class if it jumped up and bit you in the keister! ....I bet you like to keep your woman in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant...right?

Francois   February 27th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Americans are such a bunch of haters and sore-losers – what were your comments when Slick Willy left office and him and the new Secr of State stole the White House furniture – you were all probably so dismayed. Get a life – deal with it

richie   February 27th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

These people should go back where they came from. Literally. I am not interested to know what Bush and co. are doing. Not at all. I lost my job because of what Bush the "decider" decided to do,ruin America!

Joe   February 27th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Laura, life has always been great for you not like the 5 million people out of a job here! We really don't care about listening to your nonsense anymore!

chuck   February 27th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

EVERY TIME A REPUBLICAN OPEN THEIR MOUTH NOTHING BUT LIES COME OUT. WHERE IS LAURA BUSH LIVING??????????????

debbie   February 27th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

The old routine? There isn't any brush to cut in that part of Dallas.

But seriously folks – the Bushes are gone. No need for all the vitriol. I suspect that both Laura and Poppy Bush probably blushed a lot for W during the last eight years or so, but it's over.

Just remember where we are today...when George P Bush comes along in 15 years or so. And he will.

WhoCares?   February 27th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

She forget eh?

Unbelievable.. You mean you didn't want to see how much of America was overjoyed your Husband was no longer acting President?

Francois   February 27th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

God Bless you and President Bush

wallst   February 27th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Dang Dave ease up. Maybe we shouldn't have been there but you have to go off the information he had given to him to act. By the way Dave in case you didn't know this we have what is called a volunteer army. When you join you get a gun. It's a shame those young men and women got killed and hurt but they did join on their own volition.

Todd   February 27th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Nice to a CLASSY First Lady. Even if she was a "former" First Lady, she was dignified, knew that her role was not about "HER", and I think was proud of her country from day 1....

Thank you for your generous service this country, Mrs. Bush!

Agnes   February 27th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

She forgot or didn't want to see someone with a brain compared to her inept husband.

elana   February 27th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

Former First Lady, Laura Bush, is a very beautiful, intelligent, and eloquent woman, who certainly took her place in line with so many First Ladies of their respective era. Irregardless of he challenges President Bush had, I will always respect both of them, because they were committed to living a respectful family life. She contributed so much to our Country as First Lady. And her gracious ability to host so many events at the White House, especially the Xmas Tree displays, etc. will always be remembered as a postive in the administration.

Dan   February 27th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Glad to hear 'life is great' for you two twits after you destroyed to many other lives. Great news.

Lee in Ohio   February 27th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Ditto Dave, OB from Texas, and B.H.

Had It   February 27th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Hey Laura – send your hubby along with McCain and let the two of them find Bin Laden. McCain knows where he is. Maybe Bushie can cuff him.

Our "Ex"   February 27th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

I want the Bushes to get their private lives back and I'm no fan.

I can only imagine it is incredibly tough to take all the criticism under the best of circustances ... you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

No need to bash the man here as long as he stays out of policy discussions.

David   February 27th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

I voted for Obama but I think Laura is a class act. W. don't deserve her.
Good Luck in your new life and may God bless you and your family.

Darren   February 27th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Bake cookies, Laura. Just zip it and bake cookies.

Dave   February 27th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Yeah Laura. Life sure is great for you. Not so for the tens of thousands of active duty service members killed or mained or the millions of ordinary Iraqis killed/injured/displaced due to your husband's lies for an unjust and immoral WAR.

OB from Texas   February 27th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Is Laura aware of the mess her husband left behind???

B.H.   February 27th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Hope you have a great time at your dinner parties now and smile and tell your friends what a great job you did.

About destroying this great country!

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   February 27th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

She's probably as miserable as she can be. Poor lady. I bet Laura is wondering why none of the neighbors have invited them over for dinner.

Raymond   February 27th, 2009 3:13 pm ET
