Reid, Pelosi privately tell Obama of concerns over troop plan

WASHINGTON (CNN) - CNN is told that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi used a private White House briefing Thursday night to tell President Obama point-blank they have concerns about his plan to keep as many as 50,000 troops in Iraq.

In a window into how sensitive the issue is for Democrats, CNN has learned that when the president was telling lawmakers about his plan, Reid urged him to be sure to highlight the lower figure. Sources familiar with the meeting tell CNN that Reid told the president that he would have an easier time selling the plan if he focuses on a range from 35,000 to 50,000 troops.

Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy need to learn that Obama is the pres, not them. Thanks to them Obama will be a one term pres if they keep it up.

Reid – selling the plan? To whom? Who wouldn't support taking troops out of Iraq? Is he saying that if we can't take them all out we won't take any out? What is the point of this statement? It must be misquoted, because it makes no sense.

Is Pelosi and Reid running the government now ? I understand them "suggesting" things to Pres Obama, but, never "telling him" how to run the government or how to do HIS job....

These pansy "leaders" in Congress never even considered trying to defund the Iraq War, so how do they expect to be taken seriously when they whine about Comrade Barack's decisions as CIC?

Reid and Pelosi need to shut their mouths and let the President do his job. He calls the shots for the military.

I hate Pelosi and Reid. Two slimy scumbags. He's a slimeball ex-ambulance chaser and she's just an idiot, period.

Obama should ignore them and let them crawl back under their rocks.

He Won, He is the President. You must follow what he says Pelosi and Reid. You are being obstructionists to change.

See how stupid the Liberal argument sounds at times. If I was a Obamabot this is what I must say in response to anyone that challenges anything Obama says. Even if they are democrats.

Did he need coaching with numbers? Maybe the hype has taken a toll on the man. Pelosi should not fail to read between the lines. She is an ardent catholic he is not.

Obama beat Hillary because Dems had doubts that Hillary would go through with Iraq withdraw. We chose Obama because we thought he was a sure thing. Who is Barack Obama to choose the direction of progress? It's pure megalomania for him to "captain" the population segment which captains itself.

It'll be thoroughly ironic to see the radical fringe of the Left make Obama its next ad target. Dems are on notice: if they can't persuade (force?) Obama to change his mind, they could be seeing disaster by 2012.

One thing they should consider doing is holding up troop money until Obama relents.

Sell it to whom? I am an Obama voter and he is doing exactly as he said he would . Most soldiers home by 2010 and because of the SOFA all home by 2011. Am I wrong , but didn't both Reid and Pelosi vote for authorization for war in Iraq? On this, they have no credibility. I trust the President and he is doing the job I gave him my vote to do. Promises mad, promise kept.

President Obama had better put this pair out to pasture before they screw everything up even more.

    If he doesn't.....forget 2012.

The plan Obama laid out sounds remarkably like the one Bush and McCain had, where as I recall Reid and Pelosi were against the surge that have made this drawdown feasible. They don't have a good track record on anything, much less Iraq.

Good. They should share their concerns. A healthy debate is good for democracy. That's what Bush never understood.

Harry and Nancy need to mind their business. If they knew so much about the War they should have been named on the special team. Nancy is noisy and a busy body and the world knows that. President Obama knows just what he is doing and I trust him. I believe he is annointed and prays before he does anything. I know I pray for the President and so does a millon others. How do you think he got the job not the people but God who lead the complete process. Before the President was born God knew he would be the first and most effective President in American history. You great Americans wait and see everything is going to be great. Just pray give thanks and move on.

Obama is by far the smartest man in this country. He is certainly the smartest President we have ever had. Don't worry America Obama will not pay any attention to nancy for he knows she is foolish, old and needs to back off.
