Reid, Pelosi privately tell Obama of concerns over troop plan

WASHINGTON (CNN) - CNN is told that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi used a private White House briefing Thursday night to tell President Obama point-blank they have concerns about his plan to keep as many as 50,000 troops in Iraq.

In a window into how sensitive the issue is for Democrats, CNN has learned that when the president was telling lawmakers about his plan, Reid urged him to be sure to highlight the lower figure. Sources familiar with the meeting tell CNN that Reid told the president that he would have an easier time selling the plan if he focuses on a range from 35,000 to 50,000 troops.

I am not a lover of BO, but I agree with 'Bipartisan'. Obama should tell Reid and Pelosi to tape their mouths . . . without being able to speak, they would then have a voice that matched their intelligence.

They are not included in the daily briefings. They don't know it all.

Obama is clearly working wisely. Would the various extremists in both parties please come of their soap boxes?

Obama isn't surrendering fast enough for Pelosi and Reid, but don't worry, he is as much of a coward as you two.

To Jeff and all other belivers of the "socialist threat",

Socialism by textbook is a stage between capitalism and communism. It does not equal communism. If you really think about it we have been a socialist country for a very long time. We have state/government funded and operated military, roads, education, and more. If we were purely capitalist all of these things would be privately funded and operated. If we were purely communist there is no private sector. We are what what we are... socialist. Many people just want to play games and refuse to own up to what we are in the first place.

BTW, Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, creates an unequal society, and does not provide equal opportunities for everyone in society. I bet if we broke down that belief in a survey many people would agree with it. Look at how many people are angry at bank CEOs getting huge checks for doing a bad job. Look at how many people hate lobbyist.

Obama is too smart for most of us. What he has delivered is just a plan to accomplish what Bush signed with Iraq's government. There 142,000 troops right now. 65% will come home by 2010 and 35% will remain and come home by 2011 according to Bush's agreement. Why this is the news anyway?

Let's see, a Laura Bush aritcle gets 200 + hateful posts and the article that Obama is going to take 19 months, not the 16 he promised during the campaign, and still leaving 50,000 troops in Irag (meaning he lied) causing concern with leaders in his own party only gets 6? There are a lot more people drinking the Obama Kool-Aid then I thought. This country is in serious trouble.

President Obama is right on the money when it comes to Iraq. Our nation has been there TOO LONG and we have nearly accomplished all we can for these people. They need to control their own destiny, just as our nation needs to do the same. The focus now is America First!

I'm a democrat and I can't stand Reid or Pelosi. Obama obviously made an informed decision based on intel, and commanders on the group. He's smart, they're not. I'm glad Obama's governing from the center.

Pelosi, Reid, look: This is the best President Obama could come up with, and I find that acceptable. Nineteen Months is MORE than adequate to bring our troops home so they can rest and relax, re-group, re-equip, and get in Afghanistan WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.

YOU TWO WORRY ABOUT THE GRAND OBSTRUCTIONIST PARTY(GOP) AND THE REST OF THE REPUBLICANS, AND I WANT TO SEE YOUR BATTLE PLAN FOR VICTORY IN 2010!!!!

Ronnie...seriously?? Obama is our smartest president ever? He has only been in office for a month. I guess Thomas Jefferson who was an inventor, architect, farmer, writer of most early religous laws in Virginia, speaker of mulitple languages, not to mention the primary author of Constitution, founder of the University of Virginia, just doesn't get your vote. What Eisenhower, who led the D-Day invasion doesn't count either. I haven't even mentioned John Adams, George Washington, FDR, but I guess all of these men fail in comparison.
