(CNN) - More than a dozen pieces of jewelry were stolen from former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Deer Valley, Utah home last week, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
Park City police told the paper that the thief was likely someone who had access to the house. There was no sign of forced entry.
The $5 million home is currently up for sale, along with another Romney residence in Massachusetts.
The former Massachusetts governor will address activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington Friday, as he aims for his third win in the annual gathering’s presidential preference straw poll.

I would like to know why Romney and his wife would leave jewelry in a home that was sitting empty and up for sale.
If it had been my jewelry, I would have VALUED it dearly and took it with me.

CNN get your facts straight. His house was not robbed it was burgled. The two crimes are quite different.

Chris, that's precisely what I thought. A house is an inanimate object, and therefore cannot be robbed. People get robbed; houses are burglarized.

Why would you have jewelry in a home for sale where others have access? This was not random. I'm no romney fan but we do have being buglarized in common. It is an awful feeling.
with his wealth, one would think he would have had state-of-the-art security alarm systems throughout the home. at the very least, a very large and expensive vault, safe. criminality is alive and well everywhere in our society because there is no just punishment, too many plea bargains, too many early paroles, no executions. congress and the judicial system are powerless. criminality rules and is a great career for so many from elected officials to CEOs to the common ordinary street burglar. the rest of america just tolerates it with an audible "tsk-tsk".
