(CNN) - More than a dozen pieces of jewelry were stolen from former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Deer Valley, Utah home last week, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Park City police told the paper that the thief was likely someone who had access to the house. There was no sign of forced entry.

The $5 million home is currently up for sale, along with another Romney residence in Massachusetts.

The former Massachusetts governor will address activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington Friday, as he aims for his third win in the annual gathering’s presidential preference straw poll.

Anybody else see this show heading for the cliff? Romney's in financial trouble, and I bet we're 2 weeks off from a scandal with this "theft".

what? Are we supposed to feel sorry for Millionaire Romney? Apparently his wife has so much jewelry she doesn't even know which jewelry was taken and has had to hire a jewelry consultant.

To all these bloggers without sympathy, don't call the police when something happens to you. Just blame the republicans. That's what your fool on the Hill is doing.

No sign of break in – sounds like a staged scene to me in order to claim insurance money. Money must be getting tight for the good 'ol boy!

WHAT!!!! I cannot believe what I am hearing! Are some of you folks CRIMINALS? Stealing is WRONG! Wake up and smell the coffee! Stealing from someone rich or poor is wrong. What is the matter with you bitter people? Because he has money or more than one home doesn't matter. And because people lost money over the last years does NOT make this ok.

Your logic is pathetic....you don't deserve any better than what you have if you think this way.

No matter what people think of Romney, his property was broken into and items were stolen. I question how much this story is worthy of being included on the Ticker, but I feel badly for anyone who is robbed of their belongings regardless of what their socio-economic status is. Show a little class, people.

Regardless of politics, I feel badly that anyone gets robbed. I am no fan of Romney, but the snarky comments here are a bit much. I do question why this is on the Ticker, though.

Poor Mitt Romney...getting robbed. Heck, I was robbed last year but it didn't make headline news!

TRUTH: Your comment stating "Undoubtedly it was looted by some unemployed lazy illegal immigrants. AKA the base of the Democrat party," is just DISGUSTING. You might want to dislodge that silver spoon from where it currently resides.

His children did it. Look at the pawn shops before you embarass your family and friends. Maybe your girl friend or wife boyfriend took it. You will never know since there were no force entry. Another insurance fraud.

It is a sad fact that some people feel the need to steal. To put a "less bad" spin on it, Romney certainly doesn't have to worry about that being his whole life savings or the majority of his wealth.
