Senator calls Obama 'world’s best salesman of socialism'

For the second time in as many days, a prominent Republican has likened Pres. Obama's policies to socialism.
For the second time in as many days, a prominent Republican has likened Pres. Obama's policies to socialism.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Another prominent Republican told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday that the president’s spending plans are pushing the country to the brink of socialism.

Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, the only member of the senate to earn a perfect rating from the American Conservative Union, called President Obama “the world’s best salesman of socialism” on Friday in describing his prime time speech earlier this week.

DeMint, a fierce opponent of government expansion, told the CPAC crowd that conservatives might have to “take to the streets to stop America’s slide into socialism.”

His remarks comes a day after Mike Huckabee told the conference of conservative activists that “the Union of American Socialist Republics is being born” with the president’s stimulus package.

“Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff,” Huckabee said of the government bailing out financial institutions.

  1. Backing Obama and Change

Shoo, y'all redneck Republicans (and Republican backers). Go watch Fox, Limbaugh or Hannity. We voted you OUT. Ya'll destroyed the country already. We aren't listening anymore. . .

While I think the rhetoric in these statements is at least a little exhaggerative, I can't write them off entirely, at least not in priniciple.
Anyone questioning the validity of the core of these arguments should google articles and essays by Austan Goolsbee. He was Obama's economic advisor during the presidential campaign and his ideas on wealth and its redistribution using the government as a gathering agent may shed light on what's up here. Informative stuff.

  4. What?

What are you talking about? Ya...we had a wonderful past 8 years you bunch of idiots. Open your eyes. Maybe if you all thought a bit more about the ones that don't have and less about yourselves this country wouldn't have so much poverty in the streets. Every Republican in office has taken this country in the wrong direction in my eyes.

Why should we listen to individuals telling us Obama is doing the wrong thing when Bush put us here in the first place. You all need to crawl back under the rock you were under and let someone else run this country for the people and not for the corporations.

Scary Ken sounded like America for a min there...when Bush was in office. Figures. All the kiddy rambo brats with their hey diddle diddle straight up the middle ideology. Yep, we went through this all before but ya know, history isnt important so we just keep up the BS. Education took a backseat to blind patriotism, now its almost as if they are fighting for the same people that brought us here, its definetly enough to make you wonder, by the way, anyone see a boyscout lately?? its bad enough when i was kid only weirdos did that but now every kid looks like a hitler youth, or better yet, a communist general, got a medal for everything under the sun, if you ask me sh!t got real scary for a while there. Im all for Obama fixing this mess we are in. Im not dumb enough to think itll all be my way though, but its about time we have an intellgent president with better awareness of the day.

OH72====Why don't you check your facts before you post? The Democrats have not had a majority in Congress for the past four years. But I suppose you being a Republican you think you can say anything and expect people to believe you.

Let's be serious. This is fear mongering at its worst. At this point, all of those banks, etc. should have wound up in receivership...i.e. wards of the bankruptcy court. But wait.....a ward of the court? That's socialist. Get a clue you right-wing illiterates. READ 'The Communist Manifesto', 'Das Kapital', 'The Red Book' or a few others before you start crying...or yes vist Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras or Germany. Then again you could do what I did....spend 20-odd years in the Army, get an education and learn what's actually going on. The private sector, skewed taxes and a less than knowledgeable populace got us here. Grow up and face the solutions....or create some. just remember government costs money and bonds are loans.

If DeMint and Huckabee were mentally alive and well, they would realize that it is their party that has driven America to the edge of despair resulting in the drastic measures we now need to endure. These voices need to be much more humble with their criticism and tone. It doesn't work anymore.

If the second amendment allows for unfettered stockpiling of munitions by private citizens, what do you suppose the words "to promote the general welfare" in the preamble of the Constitution mean. The preamble states the purpose for all of the other amendments. It appears that socialism was written into the Constitution. What country did you say you were from, DeMinto?

I have not heard how the Republicans would "fix" the economic problems that are plaguing this country. They seem to know that Obama'a plan is wrong, but they offer not solutions. They had 8 years to right the ship, they have no credibility. Rush Limbaugh, a high school dropout , seems to be emerging as their leader and spokesperson. Only in America!
