President Obama will announce Kanasas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as his pick for HHS, sources say.

WASHINGTON (CNN) –President Barack Obama on Saturday asked Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to be his nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, according to two White House officials.

The officials told CNN that Obama is expected to make the announcement Monday afternoon. The officials asked not to be named because the announcement has not yet been made.

Sounds like an intelligent choice – sorry to hear that Kansas may lose possible dem senator in 2010 – I used to live in KS loved the wheatfields and sunsets!

Great choice, President Obama!

I just can't wait for more Dr. Tiller crap. Beat the drum, conservatives, beat the drum.

You realize that they're distracting YOU, the single issue voter, right?
You realize that they're trying to stall healthcare for YOU, don't you?

Please tell me at least one among you is able to follow the bouncing ball enough to recognize that lobbyists are trying to delay or destroy healthcare reform?

Did you know that the first person to benefit from healthcare would be YOU? Did you know that YOUR taxes wouldn't be affected in order to pay for this? Or the taxes of anyone YOU know or work for directly?

But no, of course not. Because when it comes down to it, a single issue voter is a sucker, and is being used by people who don't care about abortion, aren't going to change abortion laws and patronize and essentially make light of your core beliefs.

So keep beating the drum of Dr. Tiller. Keep drowning out reasonable debate with one single solitary issue. Roll the dice with your family's future, and risk bankrupcy every time you dare get sick.

The lobbyists in Washington will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I THINK SHE IS OVERLY QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB, I SAW HER AS SECRETARY OF STATE OR VICE PRESIDENT. PROBABLY MY ONLY DISAPOINTMENT SO FAR FROM PRESIDENT OBAMA THAT HE DID NOT APPOINT HER SOONER TO HIS CABINET. AND TO A HIGHER POSITION, I LIKE THIS WOMAN, SHE GOT BALLS AND SHE'S GOT STYLE!

Has she paid her taxes ? Does Obama Care ?

Fan of Common Sense   February 28th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

I hope she gets her RETROACTIVE back-taxes payment in before the announcement is made.

Sicko   February 28th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

The new HHS Secretary should prohibit all members of Congress opposed to universal health care from access to minimum health care. Let these SOBs rot in the ER until death and then fine their families $1000 to move their bodies to the incinerator. Better yet, send them to Iraq for medical treatment or to GITMO. Actually that too would be unfair because enemy combatants in GITMO have better health care than most Americans, who have zero health care, and zero job opportunities thanks to Bush and greedy bastard right-winger Republican'ts.

Please get yourself an education. If you would like an answer to your question, please see any article regarding Mugabe's empire. Honestly, this is information even a 6th grader would and should know. The printing of money devalues the money already on the street. And if you would like to change the economic realities of the entire world...well, good luck with that.

Gov. Sebelius was a state insurance commissioner for 8 yrs.; "helped expand cancer screening for residents", let residents "keep health ins. approximately 18 mos. after leaving their jobs, helped reduce cost of coverage for certain residents."

That's impressive. She's familiar with the intricacies of the insurance industry. Sounds good to me. However, I think Dr. Howard Dean would have been a great choice also.

GOV. KATHLEEN SEBELIUS IS A TRUE AMERICAN AND A CHAMPION AMONG ALL GOVERNORS IN THE COUNTRY. I WISH HER WELL.

Steve   February 28th, 2009 9:51 pm ET

It's really nauseating to read all the hate in this country. Do you people honestly think that our government has one care in this world about us! This entire mess is the fault of republican and democrat congressman and senators. They sold our futures to make a buck and now it is time we wake up as free american voters, and take back our country. I would like to call on every TRUE AMERICAN, to vote all these slime balls out in 2010. By getting rid of 1/3 of the congress and senate, we will send a strong message to them, that you work for us!!!! 2010 VOTE AGAINST ALL INCUMBENTS!!!!!!!!

WHY IS THE NEWS MEDIA AFRAID TO ASK THIS QUESTION?
Why does America need to borrow money from China in order to expand the money supply? Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution gives the Federal Government
the right to create new money. Goods and services have real value. Money should be
equal to the value of goods and services—not to a gold standard or anything else.

A good pick by Obama. She will do great things with the HHS post (though I believe Howard Dean would have been better). I feel sorry for the people of Kansas who will now lose the most powerful voice of sanity in their state's government.

Future U.S. Senator   February 28th, 2009 9:08 pm ET

I wish he didn't pick her. I think she is fully capable and all but she would have been the best shot for a democratic pick up in Kansas getting closer to the number 60 and she would have been a really great moderate Senator.

Why do you pre-announce an announcement and steal the moment from the president? We'll get the news. We don't NEED it now. Our lives do not benefit from this childishness, and I think even less of CNN. You don't get brownie points for being first. That isn't what makes you a better news organization than any other team. I would much prefer a news team that offers a thoughtful presentation of events that have just occurred.

This is why my journalism professors have lost faith in your industry.
There is no integrity anymore.

Stay Active   February 28th, 2009 8:08 pm ET

I would love to have lower health care for my family. I work and pay for my children's insurance..mine is free. My oldest turned 21 this year and is no longer in school. I was not allowed to keep him on my policy. I thought my premiums would go down, but they went up $100.00 a month for my remaining two. $567.00 a month for only two children. My son that is 21 now has no insurance. His job does not offer it. Something has got to change. I know my employer can't handle what he pays for us. It would be a great help to all if we could just figure this thing out already.

Santa Maria   February 28th, 2009 8:07 pm ET

R Cross   February 28th, 2009 7:45 pm ET

listening to the repuppet-cans and their tired old "evils of government run health care" is getting to be such a joke! I have health insurance thru my employer, and THE INSURANCE CO DOES decide what health care I get in the form of they wont pay for alot of things. If I can afford health procedures and care I am certainly allowed to get them, but the insurance company will find many many ways to NOT PAY for them. I had to argue with Blue Cross over a flu shot a couple of years ago! Lets get real here.

No Hillary = No Obama   February 28th, 2009 7:44 pm ET

That Other Jerry   February 28th, 2009 7:34 pm ET

This poor woman's name has come up for every position from Vice President to White House groundskeeper. How many first choices had to come down with a case of the 1040 flu before they finally got around to actually offering her a job? It would serve the Administration right if she strung them along for a few days, then pulled a Judd Gregg on them. She should think really long and hard before giving up a governorship to be the backup substitute replacement's understudy.

Truth   February 28th, 2009 7:09 pm ET

I am not familiar with Gov. Sebelius. What are her qualifications? Is she strongly enough comitted to universal healthcare (not so-called "affordable" healthcare – there is no such thing when you are on a fixed income, have a pre-existing condition, like cancer, and are under 65)?

Nearly 50 million of us are counting on her.... Actually, the whole country is counting on her – whether some people know it or not.

Jack Graham   February 28th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

The real loser in this deal is the state of Kansas. I would rater see her replace Sam Brownback as a Senator than the HHS post.
