Coulter jabs Obama at CPAC

Democrats, President Obama and the media were the targets of Ann Coulter’s jokes.

Democrats, President Obama and the media were the targets of Ann Coulter’s jokes.

(CNN) - Conservative political commentator Ann Coulter’s 15-minute address at CPAC played more like a stand-up comedy act than a political speech.

Coulter delivered line after line of jabs at President Obama, the Democratic Party and the media – each met with roaring laughter from the crowd.

The commentator – who is no stranger to controversy – first went after MSNBC, calling the hosts the “alternative prom crowd.”

Pointing to recent comparisons of Obama to Jesus and Abraham Lincoln, Coulter said the media has turned from being the people’s watchdog to the “government guard dog.”

“Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t see Lincoln text messaging with Scarlet Johansson … and I forget, how many times did Lincoln vote present?” she said, to much applause.

Coulter likened members of the media and Democrats to parents “gushing” over a newborn baby.

“Having pulled off their rather mediocre 53 percent to 46 percent victory, liberals can’t stop boasting about their new baby boy,” she said.

She said it was interesting that Obama’s “adorers” in the media compare him to Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, because, “apparently they can’t think of a Democratic president worthy of being compared to.”

“If [Obama] thinks people wanted change in 2009, wait until 2012,” she said.

Coulter has a long history of making controversial comments about politicians. Following her appearance at the 2007 CPAC, multiple companies asked to pull their ads from her Web site after she used what some observers called an anti-gay slur to describe then-Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

She was also at odds with Sen. John McCain during the campaign season, saying "John McCain is not only bad for Republicanism, which he definitely is - he is bad for the country."

It's interesting to me that she uses the Lincoln when talking about the Republican party. At this time in history, the democrats were the conservatives and typically southern party, and the republicans were more liberal and the northern party. It flipped during the time of FDR.

Also interesting "a mediocre 53-46%" margin. Bush won (somehow) 51-49%, yet it was a clear "mandate". Rush Limbough's suggestion about money along the vote percentage helps him as the losing side, but we never had any similar favors with the 51-49 margin. In 2000, Bush lost the popular vote, and it is possible he should have lost the electoral vote. Yet he was president. And not only that, he made government too big and overextended and went from surplus to deficit– what happened to the GOP being fiscally responsible? But I digress, 53-46 is a much clearer majority than either Bush victory, and was much larger than Clinton's first victory. Obama has more of a mandate than Bush, Bush, Clinton, or H.W. Bush could lay claim to.

It is absolutely amazing to watch the republican party fall apart like this. First Joe the Plumber, the Ann and her amazing adams apple. I just hop that they run Palin in 2012.

This comment page is undeniable proof that liberals can dish it out but absolutely, positively can not take it.

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are prime examples of what is wrong with this country, and big reasons why Republicans have lost big in the last two elections.

That they were invited to speak at this event, and applauded, only shows how out of touch with reality conservatives are.

They both are nasty people who demean others to make a living. Real role models.

She can't see Lincoln text messaging? Maybe because it didn't exist in his day? This type of remark is useless and the people who would applaud it are worthless.

The Republicans will become further marginalized so long as they allow these kind of haters to be the loudest voices in their party.

I can't believe that anyone is giving this anti-American any airtime after she said that she is praying for Obama to fail. If she is paying for the president of the United States to fail, she is praying for the failure of this great nation and all it's people. She is way wrong!!!

I'm shocked at how scared the Republicans are. They don't know what to do in the face of a smart and capable President. Don't panic republicans...the pendulum will swing back the other always does....and then Republicans will ruin things again.

Coulter comes up with racy titles that sell books. Don't get me wrong she is crazy, but she is just trying to fleece the republican sheep for a few more dollars before radical conservatism dies. The problem with ther conservative movement is that have decided to go as far right as possible. I hope you keep being the party of no and then you will finally progress out of the 1940s. When rush and coulter are featured speakers it is time to hang it up. NEWS FLASH: the reason you lost is because no one really believes the way you do, once they really take a look at what you stand for. I am not talking about your talking points i am talking about what the republicans have done to the country. Everyone knows someone who has lost a job now, and we see democrats trying and republicans complaining about education spending. Sorry some of us want our kids to learn.

It is a shame that Ann's jaw is not permanently wired shut. That period of relative silence was enjoyed by much of the world.

Please remove this woman, and all those who applaud her, from the stage. Doesn't she have a reality show to host or something??

Please step aside and let the real leaders take over. You are more ignorant than anyone could have ever imagined. Maybe you and Palin could be BFFs!!!

Rush, Coulter & FailinPalin.................all snarks and not useful in our time of need. Put downs and disrespect will not heal America. One would believe "all" Americans want to move forward. Bye Bye GOP – your attitude needs adjusting.

Events like this are actually very good for the progressive causes and the Democratic Party. Every time conservatives lets one of these extremist represent their cause (Coulter, Limbaugh, etc) they further marginalize themselves and alienate most moderates. (I was hoping that Huckabee or Palin would win the straw poll.)

Oh yeah! Coulter and Limbaugh, the acknowledged leaders of the Republican party. Just add Hannity, Beck, Billo and the rest, and the Repubs are destined to wander in the wilderness for at least another couple of decades. Best thing that ever happened to the Dems.

Am I the only person that is sick of idiots who are on the far right and the far left? I voted for President Obama, but I'm sick of Nancy Pelosi just as much as I am Ann Coulter...oh, yeah, and Rush "the drug-addict" Limbaugh. When is America going to stop allowing people like this separate us from doing what is good and just for everyone, not just a certain segment of the population? I don't get it!

Rush Limbaugh makes $38 million per year plus...Ann Coulter makes countless millions herself. Their sole goal in life is to promote themselves and protect their millions. Period!

In this country's history, those who purposely talk against the President's success, and publicly wish for him to fail, are guilty of treason and traitors are usually hanged. These extremist conservatives, like Ann and Rush, are not representative of what America is, was or should be. If they don't like America, they should leave before they are arrested for treason. All they do is criticize those who are trying to solve some of the most difficult problems America has faced in a long time and instead of trying to help, they try to hurt. Out with them both.

All the liberals comment on how negative the republicans are–duh–look at the posts here anything but negative from the liberals–duh–if there is I don't see it. Oh excuse me you post positive comments about Obama I guess that makes up for your negative comments about conservatives. Just wait until Obama's so called carbon energy plan kicks in and your gas prices are higher than they have ever been. I guess conservatives will be responsible for that to.
