Coulter jabs Obama at CPAC

Democrats, President Obama and the media were the targets of Ann Coulter’s jokes.
Democrats, President Obama and the media were the targets of Ann Coulter’s jokes.

(CNN) - Conservative political commentator Ann Coulter’s 15-minute address at CPAC played more like a stand-up comedy act than a political speech.

Coulter delivered line after line of jabs at President Obama, the Democratic Party and the media – each met with roaring laughter from the crowd.

The commentator – who is no stranger to controversy – first went after MSNBC, calling the hosts the “alternative prom crowd.”

Pointing to recent comparisons of Obama to Jesus and Abraham Lincoln, Coulter said the media has turned from being the people’s watchdog to the “government guard dog.”

“Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t see Lincoln text messaging with Scarlet Johansson … and I forget, how many times did Lincoln vote present?” she said, to much applause.

Coulter likened members of the media and Democrats to parents “gushing” over a newborn baby.

“Having pulled off their rather mediocre 53 percent to 46 percent victory, liberals can’t stop boasting about their new baby boy,” she said.

She said it was interesting that Obama’s “adorers” in the media compare him to Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, because, “apparently they can’t think of a Democratic president worthy of being compared to.”

“If [Obama] thinks people wanted change in 2009, wait until 2012,” she said.

Coulter has a long history of making controversial comments about politicians. Following her appearance at the 2007 CPAC, multiple companies asked to pull their ads from her Web site after she used what some observers called an anti-gay slur to describe then-Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

She was also at odds with Sen. John McCain during the campaign season, saying "John McCain is not only bad for Republicanism, which he definitely is - he is bad for the country."

This is for "Joyce", I understand your pain, it is happening all around us and your absolutely right. The cynism of the conservative base, they insult Obama for trying to fix what Bush did the last eight years.

It is scary to see someone like Coulter comment on something they destroyed, "America." These people have no values and no limits to their cynism.

I hope American will not vote for another Republican in many decades, we all saw what the last two did.

I think Democrats should embrace this woman. She should be heralded everyday with everything she says put in print and on television. That way, every time we read the words and see and hear this silly woman, we can be constantly reminded that she is the Republican poster child and why Democrats are firmly and safely in the majority on every level of government. The vast majority of Americans find her foolish and childish and she has found a great audience in the GOP to continuously line her pockets by feeding their hatred and fears. The Republican's have a well-paid evil clown.

Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, Joe the Plumber and the GOP wants to be back in power by 2010? Unless President Obama royally screws up or the voters go into a fog like they did in 04 it appears the Dems will be in control until past 2012.

What Ann Coulter has lost sight of is that you cannot both insult and influence people at the same time. She is very good at insulting people. She can throw red meat and provacative cliches to the crowds of true believers...much like the preacher who preaches to his or her own choir.

But can she influence anyone else? No! Can she expand the conservative base? No! Can she persuade anyone who disagrees with her to change their minds? No...she is too busy insulting them. She makes more enemies for conservatives than she will ever make friends for them.

Ann Coulter is a prime exhibit when is comes to the reasons why conservatives are out of power...and deservedly so. They think that they are smarter and better than everyone else who disagrees with them. Whoever disagrees with them is stupid...or doesn't believe in God the way that they do...the list goes on and on...

Why don't the Republicans get some real people to represent them. Limbaugh is a recovering drug addict, and he looks kind of queer. Coulter is a man in drag. Get real and give some explanation of how we are in the predicament today. It is not because of the poor people, it is because of these greedy s.o.b's.

Ah please don't insult the President he is a Democrat and he really is just doing his best. Democrats are just such sweet sensitive souls. We never ever said a nasty thing about the previous president and we want the Republicans to do the same. I believe Obama should be treated the same way Bush was treated, with all the disrespect a nation can muster.

Every time I see that Ann's been back out there spewing venom in the name of the Republican Party I draw a big sigh of relief. As long as she, and people like her (aka Rush Limbaugh) are out there the Republican Party will never get back on it's feet. The few people left who rally around their sort of hate and bile are welcome to it. The days of the all white, evangelical power elite who will lap up Ann's nonsense are over. She just can't fathom it and neither can those like her. That's OK, keep them distracted and keep them busy with the same old garbage they've been spewing for years, it doesn't work any more, but they don't need to know that.

I am pleased to see conservatives finally standing up for freedom, reduced government, and logic. Democrats claimed they would solve the problems with the mortgage industry. Instead, they are bankrupting us with over 9,000 lines of pork for their friends - how does any of this solve our singular, important mortgage and credit "crisis"? I am sickened by this President. He is showing himself to be an egomaniac. He has lied. He is dividing the country - he said he would unite us. what exactly is in his stimulus that unites anybody except him to his pathetic voters in search of handouts from the successful. This man is a joke. Even I am surprised – i thought he would be better. Honestly i did.

No one should be surprised! What Reps refer as conservatism is nothing more than a philosophy of hate against anyone who is not from the religious right or ultra rich!

The CPAC just doesn't get it. This entire event has paraded one Repub after another out with the same venomous words used during the campaign...and that's all I hear from them now. Nothing has changed...and if they don't find better representatives and a newer platform to run on, they won't have a chance in 2010 or 2012...not that I care.

Interestingly a 53 to 46 percent win is mediocre...I'm sure if the election had skewed 53/46 the other way to McCain, they would have labeled it a mandate.

Just more of the same...which will get the Repubs the same results...which is good for Obama.

Yay for Coulter!!! I am so tired of all of you Democrats and Hollywood thinking all of America feels the way you do. I think Hollywood needs to keep to their acting and keep their thoughts to themselves. I will never go see another movie of Sean Penn, Ben Afflack, Scarlett Johannson and almost all the Hollywood actors who supported placing Obama in office. My money will not got to these people who feel they can use their success to push their opinions on everyone else. So yay for Coulter. You go girl and God Bless America!!!!!!
