Vice President Biden is headed overseas next week.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Vice President Biden will travel to Brussels, Belgium next week to meet with the North Atlantic Council, the White House announced Tuesday.

“The purpose of his trip is to consult with [NATO] allies on Afghanistan and Pakistan and to ensure that their views help inform the strategic review ordered by President Obama,” the White House said in a statement.

Biden also plans to meet with NATO’s secretary general, senior leaders in the European Union, and Belgian governmental officials.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is also headed to Brussels Thursday for an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in preparation for the NATO summit in April.

Yeah I would like to hope that Biden wouldn't become one of the biggest criminals in modern history. lol Cheaney holds that record alone. lol

MLH   March 3rd, 2009 10:05 pm ET

Amen to Biden and Clinton going to meet with NATO. We got them into Afghanistan and then basically left them and what few of our troops we sent there, on their own.

For the edification of 'Griff...On The Truth', the article clearly indicates President Obama has ordered his Administration to review policies regarding Afghanistan and Pakistan. He is not sending Joe to 'order' NATO to do anything.

If some of you would do a little less ranting and a little more reading, there could be informed discussion on this ticker. What a concept.

He will fit right in.

lkinopfl   March 3rd, 2009 9:36 pm ET

GO JOE!! You're doing a great job! Make us proud! & I am ever so confident you will represent us well! : )

AC   March 3rd, 2009 9:23 pm ET

I think there is going to be alot of "oneupsmanship" between Clinton and Biden

YBM   March 3rd, 2009 9:21 pm ET

Joe has become such a non-entity that CNN is leaving his article open for comments for hours, and it gets comparatively few.

Emma, San Jose   March 3rd, 2009 8:44 pm ET

Just stop and think a moment. It might have been Palin. We are happy it is not.

Laziz   March 3rd, 2009 8:42 pm ET

Joe is smart and funny. Is not that cool to step up American leadership with humour and grace? This will be for the common good of the International Community. Just jockingly engaging Ahmadiminejad and Kin Jon Ill about their nuclear ambitions!

texas teacher   March 3rd, 2009 8:41 pm ET

You go, Joe! :) NATO will be the better for his visit!

Perusing-through   March 3rd, 2009 8:38 pm ET

america first   March 3rd, 2009 8:36 pm ET

with Joe on our team, we will come from behind and win our country back.

Truth Bomb Thrower   March 3rd, 2009 8:33 pm ET

Aaah, our plagarist vice president. We should be so proud.

Sorry Joe, but you'll always be small compared to Cheney. You'll never see one fifth of his power, influence, and intelligence.

Ula Nejad Sacramento, Ca   March 3rd, 2009 8:22 pm ET

Now we can sit back and watch Joe perform stand up comedy and Clinton echo like boom box through the desert while Obama making deals in street corners. This is the "change" in American diplomacy. I doubt thugs in that region will take comedians and entertainers seriously.

Harry   March 3rd, 2009 8:15 pm ET

Joe, you are useles.. I do nto know why we have to spend more tax-payers money for your trip to Brussels. Nothing could be accomplished with your trip.

rjn   March 3rd, 2009 8:13 pm ET

Does he know how to spell NATO??

Mike - Houston   March 3rd, 2009 8:12 pm ET

The great buffoon heads to NATO.

Matt   March 3rd, 2009 8:09 pm ET

I guess we can expect some high level international stupidity to come from the mouth that likes the taste of its foot.

Jan Illinois   March 3rd, 2009 7:47 pm ET

Consult with NATO, now there's a new concept!!!!! THAT is the CHANGE that we're talking about.

Di   March 3rd, 2009 7:38 pm ET

NATO will not sacrifice their soldiers.

Franky   March 3rd, 2009 7:09 pm ET

I swear, Joe is funny. We just like hearing from him, especially when he talks about his stories back in the day. William Henry Harrison ain't got nothing on this guy...

Tom in Delaware   March 3rd, 2009 7:04 pm ET

No need to say anthing to the Poles or the Czeckhs, Obama has already sold them down the river.

Concentrate on practicing your 'appeasing skills' so you can cement your place in history, finally giving that old Neville Chamberlain a run for his money.

matt   March 3rd, 2009 6:45 pm ET

Doesn't it make you smile just to think back and remember when Biden said that Obama is "still not ready to lead this country and I stand by that statement"....hahahaha

Ed's Kate   March 3rd, 2009 6:44 pm ET

At least we will have a person who has great knowledge of foreign affairs and will be able to hold an intelligent conversation about the situation at hand with the leaders involved in the meeting.
God speed, VP Biden.

matt   March 3rd, 2009 6:44 pm ET

Oh great, this is exactly what America needs traveling around the world on our behalf...hopefully he isn't talking to any foreign leaders about the important "3 letter word – j...o...b...s" Freaking biden

This Oughta Be Good   March 3rd, 2009 6:40 pm ET

Are Joe and Hill going to get permission to defend our country?

JT   March 3rd, 2009 6:31 pm ET

Go Biden Go!!!!!!!!!!!

Rick   March 3rd, 2009 6:06 pm ET

Is Biden actually trying to be a buffoon? Because everytime he appears in public he says something comical. It's gotten so that I can't wait to hear what he says next.

Babs   March 3rd, 2009 5:56 pm ET

Who's the Secretary of State? And didn't Pelosi go to Afghanistan to see what was going on.. no just to justify her flipping vacation junket to Italy. More wasted money.

Willy Brown   March 3rd, 2009 5:40 pm ET

Gee wonder what doofus remarks will come out of Indian Joe's mouth this time.

Griff............... on The Truth...   March 3rd, 2009 5:31 pm ET

Ordered? He does not tell Europe, what to do.
Niether do you Mr Biden.
They (Europe), will leave America in the Dirt, after Obama has ruined your Country...

Rob in Ark   March 3rd, 2009 5:31 pm ET

Sniffit   March 3rd, 2009 5:30 pm ET

Lat time I went to the circus, this tiny little car drove into the center ring and teh whole GOP got out.

no corporate politics   March 3rd, 2009 5:30 pm ET

Obama's confusing cover-my-behind lawyer prep-school novel speech and now Biden's angry rage-speech.

Wow! The world will just love us!

I have to admit – it is better than cowboy speech. But only a little. I wish we could get a change from the RNC-DNC one party system someday.

AJ in Fla   March 3rd, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Please no...!!!!!!!

Dylan from MN   March 3rd, 2009 5:23 pm ET

God, I'm so glad Obama was elected, i'd be so embarresed if this was Palin. I wonder if she even knows what NATO is?

No Hillary = No Obama   March 3rd, 2009 5:22 pm ET

There he is. Obama must have loosened that short leash, handed him a script and told him to stay on message. Have to keep the image untarnished.

phoenix86   March 3rd, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Oh Oh, there goes NATO.
