DNC chair: Limbaugh is the GOP's 'Wizard of Oz'

Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine.
Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The chairman of the Democratic National Committee persisted Tuesday in calling attention to his Republican counterpart Michael Steele’s apology to Rush Limbaugh, describing the radio host as “the Wizard of Oz” and “the godfather” of the GOP.

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine told CNN that Steele’s backpedaling from earlier criticisms of the talk show host proves that Limbaugh is "the Wizard of Oz, you know, who kind of oversees everything" in the Republican Party.

Earlier in the day, Kaine told MSNBC that Limbaugh is “clearly the godfather, or the he-who-must-be-obeyed in Republican politics these days.”

“When Chairman Steele over the weekend pointed out that the kinds of comments that Rush Limbaugh has been making, hoping the president will fail, pointing out that those were ugly and incendiary, I thought that that took some guts to say that,” Kaine told CNN.

“But then the fact that he backtracked immediately leaves me wondering, okay, so is Rush Limbaugh the guy that's really in charge of the party?”

Democrats are eager to highlight the GOP skirmish: Kaine made several cable appearances Tuesday and released two statements criticizing Steele after the RNC chair called Limbaugh to apologize for calling him an “entertainer” and saying his comments can be “ugly.”

    OF COURSE RICK,
RUSH LIMBAUGH HAS FOLLOWERS WHO ARE JUST AS STUPID AS HE IS. HE IS JUST LIKE THE OTHER REPUBLICANS THE ONES WHO GOT THE COUNTRY INTO THIS MESS AND THEN COMPLAIN THAT SOMEONE HAS A WAY TO GET US OUT IN A DIFFERENT MANNER THAT THEY WOULD DO. THEY ARE ALL PLAYING POLITICS.

MR LIMBAUGH GETS PAID TO RUN HIS MOUTH... NOT HIS BRAIN.
HE LOVES TO SENSATUATE THE ISSUES BECAUSE HE HATES DEMOCRATS

BUT WHAT HAS HE RUN IN THIS COUNTRY OTHER THAN HIS MOUTH?

The best thing that could happen for the Democratic party is for that pill popping hypocrite to become the leader of the Republican party.

What would Jesus do? He wouldn't hope for governmental failure. He wouldn't demand apologies from his detractors. And he wouldn't have one sided conversations with his disciples. But... that's Jesus, the polar opposite of Rush and his philosophy.

Capitalism coupled with deregulation and greed has failed this great
country. This country is on a downward spiral and the RNC is too busy
with criticism to realize they are ultimately the cause of this mess (hint –
    George W. Bush).

I was raised in a conservative home and I thought I was a Republican, until I listened to Rush for a year. At first he was interesting and persuasive, but after a while I realized he was a blowhard demagogue, a misogynist, unconcerned about minorities or the environment, and completely full of himself. As the scales fell from my eyes, I realized my personal beliefs had little in common with those of Rush and his followers, and I left the Republican party.

For many millions, Rush is the voice of conservatism and Republicanism. I think Rush has terrible values and I would be ashamed to follow him. I hope all this attention he is getting leads to him being recognized for what he is–a bad role model and a bad leader for America.

Rush you be da man. The man everyone has to kiss up to. Michael Steele should immediately step down. His apology just made his leadership null and void. We don't want him as the supposed leader of our party, nor do we want Rush. I'm going independent!!!

    - I didn't much care for your tone Micheal.
    - Aw golly gee Mr. Rushy.
-Don't let it happen again, or I may have to find myself another boy.
    -Yes Sir Mr. Rushy Sir!!!

Is this what the Republican/Conservative party has come to?

One "leader" states something, then has to retract, apologize and restate
what was "really" meant. Or, wait, what was actually stated was taken out of context by everyone, including members of their own party.

Great way to regain the trust of the American public–with so many misstatements and retractions.

I think you'd be less worried about life if you spent less time obsessing about empty strawman arguements. Perhaps "unreasonably paranoidmom" would be a better nom de plume for you, as you listed a bunch of name calling and pretty much nothing else.

@ AWARE........... that you even mention that Limbaugh makes sense to you is nuts!

And your comment "So kill the babies and deny health care to the elderly" HOW MANY IRAQI CIVILIANS DID BUSH KILL?

HOW MANY AMERICAN CHILDREN NEEDED HEALTHCARE WHEN BUSH ......VETOED..... THE "SCHIP" BILL A YEAR AGO????

You, see, ALL life is precious, not ONLY the baby in the womb!

And for your, information THE HEALTHCARE THAT THE ELDERLY RECEIVE IN OUR NATION: MEDICARE, ETC........ WERE ALL ...........SOCIALIST PROGRAMS WHEN FIRST PRESENTED BY DEMOCRATS!

Saying Rush Limbaugh is the "Wizard of Oz" of the republican party is flat out stupid. Couldn't the same be said of Move.On.org being the true puppet masters of the Democratic party? It is not a unfair comparison. Both are at the extremes of their party and both seek to influence and steer the direction of their party to what they see as the right way to go.

And both do not have to answer for their actions or subject to control from the party. So blasting Rush and not equally blasting MoveOn.org at the same time makes people like Kaine seem like simple folk who want things their way but refuse to see what they are doing oin their side of the tracks.

I'm no fan of his but I will give Rush this. At least he does not hide like a coward when he says things. MoveOn.org on the other hand is nothing but cowards hiding behind a stupid name that does not even make sense anymore.

It is completely amazing that a "radio commentator" has this much power over a major political party. What is also amazing is the people that blindly follow this "radio commentator", who by the way couldn't finish college, but completely question everything that a highly educated "elected" official does. Rush has an OPINION blind followers not a plan. There is no documented success from this "radio commentator" but people believe he has all the answers. Has the country really become that ignorant?

This was a stage event between Limbaugh and Steele to see where the Republican base really is! And they got to find out just how frightened the Democratic party is of a GOP comeback!! Limbaugh is much to smart to fall into any trap!

Republicans probably don't like the idea....Limbaugh may not be the official leader of the Republican Party, but he leads in ideology and is very much feared by his fellow Republicans for reasons that I do not know....

Michael Steele, the supposed leader, retracted all his statements about Rush being an 'angry' man and an 'entertainer.' Moreover, Steele apologized to Rush. This is just an example of many.........

I dare any Republican to stand up to Rush....if you can't, and you won't, then by reasonable deduction ....Rush is THE leader of the Republican Party AND the Conservative movement!!
