DNC chair: Limbaugh is the GOP's 'Wizard of Oz'

Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine.
Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The chairman of the Democratic National Committee persisted Tuesday in calling attention to his Republican counterpart Michael Steele’s apology to Rush Limbaugh, describing the radio host as “the Wizard of Oz” and “the godfather” of the GOP.

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine told CNN that Steele’s backpedaling from earlier criticisms of the talk show host proves that Limbaugh is "the Wizard of Oz, you know, who kind of oversees everything" in the Republican Party.

Earlier in the day, Kaine told MSNBC that Limbaugh is “clearly the godfather, or the he-who-must-be-obeyed in Republican politics these days.”

“When Chairman Steele over the weekend pointed out that the kinds of comments that Rush Limbaugh has been making, hoping the president will fail, pointing out that those were ugly and incendiary, I thought that that took some guts to say that,” Kaine told CNN.

“But then the fact that he backtracked immediately leaves me wondering, okay, so is Rush Limbaugh the guy that's really in charge of the party?”

Democrats are eager to highlight the GOP skirmish: Kaine made several cable appearances Tuesday and released two statements criticizing Steele after the RNC chair called Limbaugh to apologize for calling him an “entertainer” and saying his comments can be “ugly.”

"I can't believe someone could actually want the President to fail.
No matter what your politcs are, if he fails we all fail. Rush Limbaugh is a very selfish person. He won't lose his job like we would. He is only thinking about himself."

Probably one of the most moronic statements I've seen, and it keeps getting repeated over and over again.

He's the president, not a deity. If he fails we do NOT all fail, that's why we have a congress and judicial branch and a VP and the RULE OF LAW.

In fact, if he SUCCEEDS we may all fail, and there are a whole host of POLICIES that many on the right hope will fail, they may not need hope though, it could all fail on it's own.

Socialism has never worked in any country that's tried it, and it's because it's a fundamentally flawed policy that relies too much on "trust" of your government. There is NO rule of law in a socialist system, it's all about judgment about what's "fair". Which leaves us with the rule of men, the whims of people, something our federal system was designed to PREVENT.

If you want to give all of your liberty to the government (or political party, it's the same difference really), then sure I bet you hope the president succeeds, but um, some of us actually like our liberty.

Although I suppose if you're actually upset that people hope the president fails, you've already given that trust over to a single leader and are willing to throw out the constitution, might as well just declare us a monarchy if that's the attitude about government that the majority have in this country. We just got rid of George the Bush, might as well make way for KING OBAMA.

I'll be looking for a plane ticket out, even living in the wilderness of Africa or with Obama's half brother in his shack would be better than living under a dictatorship. The people in this country are either too brainwashed, or too stupid to really understand what's happening to them.

Go Rush tell it like it is. Hey American wake up and listen to what the man has to say. No I do not always agree with what he has to say but he is telling you to truly and we better listen.

With a chestfull of medals and a very large brown belt around his fat stomach and a TIN FOIL hat he could be the spitting image of Herman Goering...Hitlers Chief of Staff and the Air Force..Except he would be to FAT to fly in any of the airplanes of that day...He would need at least a Boeing 747 today..

He has the slit eyes and the dumb look on his face like Goreing had. But his IQ will not match Goerings...Lush Limppaw , has an IQ the same as his shoe size. Goering was much smarter.

The main intellectual spokesmen for the Republican Party apparently are a soccer mom with a bachelor's degree, an unlicensed plumber, and an ex-disk jockey who flunked everything in his one-year attempt at a higher education.

It looks like GOP Chairperson Steele doesn’t have any steel in his character after he caved into pressure and apologized to Hindenburg Limbaugh. The GOP is now run by a radio personality whose claim to fame is that he is an unreconstructed drug addict. Nice choice for the image of the Republican Party.

Why don't democrats have liberal talk shows? They could have telepropmters and canned talking points and people whispering in their ear and telling them what to say, you know like the President. Oh stupid me the already have ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN...

If you keep harping on Rush people are bound to actually see what he's saying. That would be bad for Obama as Rush speaks the hard truth. It's often harsh and un-pc, but often the truth is just that.

I don't care if you don't like him, he has a 97% fact rating for his show and that's more than most can claim.

The man has obviously hit a nerve with the white house and the dem leadership and they're doing all they can to discredit him and the GOP at once. Their plan will likely backfire as Rush has outlasted every person that's attacked him before and has generally been a boost to the conservative agenda when in a minority position.

Go ahead, rally to Rush. Just don't start complaining when you realize that he only represents a tiny fraction of the American political spectrum.

Or, you could drop this neo-conservatism nonsense, and go back to being, gee, I dunno, Republicans?

Ratings! Ratings! Ratings! This is simply Rush's attempt to justify the recently signed 100 million dollar contract. Now ,it behooves him to help recover that windfall to justify that pay increase. Can you imagine being paid that absurd sum to spew hypocracy, promote hatred, foster divisiveness, be the public oracle for the KKK and groups of that kind, nurture a spirit of fear, while trying to insult the intelligence of everyday folk?

Rush realises that four years takes four years to come to an end and has therefore started his march to destruction from day one. You may have been blessed with orotorical skills, but be careful that that same gift does not cause more harm than good to you, and those who share your loathing. Remember that when you spit up in the air some WILL fall on your face.

Rush, yare not invincible and the last time I checked, there was no vacancies in the Holy Trinity.

Unfortunately, it is the fact. All the GOP folks tried to distance themselves from Limbough have all apologized. It is funny, many well-educated folks have to yield to this college drop-out. If you're in GOP, if you have different opinions than Rush, you have two choices – either leave GOP, or change your opinions.

It's disturbing how people are throwing around the word "socialism" with little to no understanding of what they are referring to. The United States of America has never adhered to strict capitalism. The citizens of this country, and as a result, the country itself, have benefitted from the existence of such "socialized" institutions like public schools and public libraries. A strictly for profit society would undoubtedly fail.

I like Steele, but when Limbaugh made those hope President fails comment it was about Obama becoming a socialist with government spending.
    ------

Debbie, I wouldn't have a problem with Rush expressing his opinion, but my problem is, why wasn't it socialism when Bush tripled our deficit? Why wasn't it socialism when the government continually gave the richest of the rich tax cuts, and other perks that you and I would not have access to? I am a Republican, but its the usage of catch phrases such as these that have made the party seem uneducated, and frankly out of touch.

It's about time the Democrats are calling Republicans out, and telling it like it is! And the limp berger is surely calling the Republican tune and has been for a long time. That tune is what has caused America to dance so close to the edge of financial and every other kind of doom! Fortunately, the American people are no longer dancing to his Republican destructive tune!
