DNC chair: Limbaugh is the GOP's 'Wizard of Oz'

Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine.
Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The chairman of the Democratic National Committee persisted Tuesday in calling attention to his Republican counterpart Michael Steele’s apology to Rush Limbaugh, describing the radio host as “the Wizard of Oz” and “the godfather” of the GOP.

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine told CNN that Steele’s backpedaling from earlier criticisms of the talk show host proves that Limbaugh is "the Wizard of Oz, you know, who kind of oversees everything" in the Republican Party.

Earlier in the day, Kaine told MSNBC that Limbaugh is “clearly the godfather, or the he-who-must-be-obeyed in Republican politics these days.”

“When Chairman Steele over the weekend pointed out that the kinds of comments that Rush Limbaugh has been making, hoping the president will fail, pointing out that those were ugly and incendiary, I thought that that took some guts to say that,” Kaine told CNN.

“But then the fact that he backtracked immediately leaves me wondering, okay, so is Rush Limbaugh the guy that's really in charge of the party?”

Democrats are eager to highlight the GOP skirmish: Kaine made several cable appearances Tuesday and released two statements criticizing Steele after the RNC chair called Limbaugh to apologize for calling him an “entertainer” and saying his comments can be “ugly.”

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THAT MICHAEL STEELE EVIDENTLY IS A WOOZ TOO, BECAUSE HE BACKTRACKED AND SHOULD HAVE STOOD UP FOR WHAT HE SAID INSTEAD OF BACKING OFF.

So, when a Republican wins an election; it is because the election is rigged. OK... Got it. Please go and keep spoon feeding the Huffington Post to yourself and let the adults have real dialogs please.

You demo's and lib's just shut the heck up, jeeez, no one can say anything about lets play nice in the sand box together. Lord you people, especially those liberals, have no conscience what so ever. They just say what comes into their little brain, without thinking and making fools of themselves, this little guy you put on the pedestal well, its got to come down sooner or later, some of us have a right to say a negative word about him if we want to. Obama is not on any throne that I would kneel at. So just keep on trying.

Ayatollah Limbaugh should just keep doing what he is doing. The more the GOP swings his way, the more independents and moderates will flock to the Democrats.

Does this mean Steele's plan to give the GOP a "hip-hop" makeover has to meet with Rush's approval first?

This is actually funny. Apparently the Dem playbook is to tie the GOP into Rush every day. This would be a very successful strategy...if they had used it in Sep. 2010. However, the more this gets brought up, the worse it looks. It is already starting to look like they are using Limbaugh to divert attention from their own problems.

Do any CONSERVATIVES care about any of this msm hype surrounding Rush Limbaugh and the republican party? Or is this merely a ruse to make conservatives and republicans fight amongst themselves?
As for me, a conservative, i couldn't care one iota about these "news" stories

Rush Limbaugh is, and long has been, all hot air and no substance. He has a third-grade understanding of politics and always tries to reduce complicated issues into politically slanted sound bytes. Do your homework, Republicans: Rush is WRONG, and by following him you run the risk of making yourselves a permanent minority. Or, you could continue living in denial, blaming the "mainstream media", Obama, moderate politicians and everyone but yourselves in your eventual eradication from political relevance. America is waking up – to realize that helping out our fellow citizens and tolerance of different ways of life might not be such a bad thing. Sorry if that's not the "waking up" you imagined, but then again, the religious right has been there to fight progress for centuries: the abolition of slavery, the empowering of women to vote, the end of segregation. The religious right fought against all of these, and they have always lost. So, you'll just have to learn to enjoy your rightful place in the garbage dump of history, Rush. You won't be missed.

Rush and those he represents, are absolute MORONS! With people like him, WHO needs terrorists?

To wish that your president fails, is as much treason as was Bush's fight to remove all of our rights and liberties (Speech, Privacy, Constitution).

Until the republicans, unified and unanimously condemn this fat tub of pill popping pork, we need to vote them out, unconditionally and unrelenting!

Does Rush go to church? Doesn't he understand that we are all interconnected, and we must all pull together behind our new President to get this country back on track? Bush and Cheney succeeded in ruining this country. Wall street was allowed to operate with no rules, and we are all paying for it. I knew when Bush was reelected that we were in big big trouble, and I was right. Now I predict that we are going to taken over by China. We are so far in debt to China that I don't see how we will ever get out of it. Rush is a very sad man, and all of you that follow his lead are pathetic.

I'd pay to watch Steele and Rush in the octagon. I thought the GOP imploded on Election Day. Guess I was wrong for it has yet to happen. It's pretty crazy to think a talk show host can run a political party. It's anybody's guess how this will shake out.

Ok, Mr Kaine, let me explain this so you can understand....initially, when Mr Steele was informed of the comments that Rush had made and asked for his opinion, Mr Steele indicated that the type of comments reported to him were ugly, yada, yada, yada. HOWEVER, once Mr Steele contacted Rush and was informed of the true content and context of Rush's comments, Mr Steele realized that as per usual, the media reported comments out of context in order to suit their own agenda and realized that what Rush ACTUALLY said was valide and as such, merited his apology.
One other thing, Mr Kaine, where was all of this outrage while the democrates were saying that they wanted Bush to fail?

Instead of basing their policies on sound principles and facts, the Republican elites have spent the last 40 years training their followers to blindly believe in failed ideas that cater to the rich and the special interests and ultimately damage the country. They used guys like Rush to do their brainwashing. Now that those policies have been proven wrong the American people have moved on, but the "conservative base" will need to be deprogrammed. Of course, Rush, Coulter, Hannity and O'Reilly make too much money spreading the vitriol, so good luck Republican "leaders".

I for one am looking FORWARD to a more European-style America with less crime, better, cheaper health care for ALL, less war, cleaner environment, better education and people not having to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet and pay for Wall Street bonuses.

The rich will still stay rich – just a little less so. What is so bad about that Rush?

It's sad that the Obama administration gets so easily side tracked by their politcal enemies. They and the media could be asking questions about the real cause of our current economic mess. It is the Federal Reserve system that creates the economic bubbles by messing around with ibntersets rates. Interest rates are prices and what they are engaged in is price setting. That isn't a free market! In a truly free market you don't have a Federal Reserve manipulating money supply and interest rates. A free market doesn't have minimum wage laws, social security.medicare, mandates, subsidies,a depart. of commerce, welfare, subsidies, and it most certainly doesn't have a Federal bank manipulating interest rates nad causing boom and bust cycles. The free market didn't cause this; the leviathon state that is our federal government did!
